Wings Over Scotland

The bonehead parade

Posted on June 15, 2018 by

We’re seriously starting to think there’s some sort of competition going on among the Unionist parties of Scotland to see who’s the thickest. We’ve spent quite a bit of time pointing out the scarcely-believable dimness of the Scottish Conservative benches, but this week Scottish Labour really pulled out the stops to try to seize back the initiative.

As a warm-up act they came out swinging with one of their big hitters (which for taste reasons we’ve expressed as rhyming slang) in the form of our dear old pal and former Edinburgh South CLP chair Duncan Hothersall – last seen attacking a six-year-old girl for selling 50p cups of lemonade to thirsty festivalgoers – who impressively contrived to badly lose an argument with a bridge.

But hilarious as that was, it wasn’t the high point by a distance.

And we don’t even mean the conspiracy theory he tacked on:

(In passing we should perhaps note that Hothersall’s argument was both factually and logically fallacious. Firstly, it was never claimed by anyone that the bridge windshields would totally prevent closures, just mostly. And secondly, as numerous people pointed out, his reasoning could equally be used to say “buses are vehicles, so that means the bridge was closed to vehicles – just not ALL vehicles”.)

Luckily for Dunc, though, there was no shortage of other volunteers in Scottish Labour to rush to the battlements of brainlessness and distract some attention from his embarrassment. Putting in a tireless shift was another old chum of Wings, and another stalwart of the party’s Edinburgh cohort, Councillor Professor Doctor Scott Arthur:

First up, the slow-witted municipal seat-warmer fell for a bit of weak propaganda being put around by the Tories, namely that the SNP had left the “script” for their PMQs walkout on Wednesday behind them – despite the fact that the document was in reality their points of order from the previous night’s EU debate.

Which could be easily missed, unless you spotted the words “EU WITHDRAWAL BILL – POINTS OF ORDER” printed in capital letters in a box right at the top of it.

(As well as it referring to “this evening” rather than “this afternoon”.)

But there could be no mistaking that Cllr Professor Doctor Scott was fuming about the SNP’s walkout. First he raged that the party’s MPs were “sheep” for following their leader out when he was ordered to leave the chamber.

Which rapidly backfired when it was revealed that the SNP had merely been borrowing a tactic from Donald Dewar’s Scottish Labour, and for the exact same reason.

And his Twitter poll on the subject didn’t pan out quite as he presumably hoped either.

But a true leader leads his party from the front, so Labour’s Scottish branch office manager stepped up to the plate on Thursday with a trap question for Nicola Sturgeon about primary school testing, in which he asked her if she knew another name for a hummingbird’s beak, a question which was apparently reducing the nation’s five-year-old children to shattered, weeping, broken husks.

Except it turned out Leonard was being somewhat dishonest (yes, we’re as surprised as you are), because he’d neglected to mention the fact that the question actually put to kids was non-hummingbird-specific, multiple-choice, and a none too tricky one, as journalists quickly pointed out.

But rather than quietly and hurriedly backing away after having the crude ploy exposed for the embarrassing attempted chicanery it was, Labour doubled down. Edinburgh MSP Daniel Johnson – expensively privately educated at Stewart’s Melville College and a double graduate from both St Andrews and Strathclyde universities – proclaimed, inexplicably proudly, that this brainteaser was beyond his capabilities.

Which means, we can only assume from the data provided, that this 40-year-old man with two degrees genuinely thought people might refer to the pointy bit at the front of a bird’s face as either its “skin” or its “body”.

(Incidentally, other than results generated by yesterday’s story, literally the second and third Google results for “hummingbird’s beak alternative name” clearly identify the answer as “bill” even before you click on the links.)

Admirably, though, Johnson was determined to find out more.

Wait, HOW fast? 30kHz means 30,000 times a second. Which is a lot.

Hummingbirds are unquestionably amazing creatures, but if they really flapped their wings 30,000 times a second the tiny avians would vanish in a puff of smoke and feathers. The actual frequency is from 12 to 80 times, or 0.15% of Johnson’s claim:

We suppose we shouldn’t be shocked that the party whose top-team frontline talent comprises James Kelly, Jackie Baillie, Neil Findlay, Anas Sarwar and Iain “where would we get the money for an oil fund?” Gray is hapless, innumerate thickos all the way down. We’re just looking forward to the Tories upping their game in response.

There are, we presume, prizes at stake.

Two of them, above who seem to be cognitively challenged, are particularly bad adverts for private expensive schooling. My MSP (Daniel Johnson)(sadly) reputedly went to two universities and Daniel Stewarts, yet failed here, not on knowledge, but on simple language comprehension – a classic case of (which all teachers warn about) of NOT reading the actual question. My guess is most 5 year olds may grasp the actual question more readily than private educated Daniel.

Then to top it all, there is the man-genius, called Iain Gray, the man who could not understand where Scotland would get money for an oil fund. He was reportedly educated at George Watson’s. I mean, seriously, the headmasters of both schools must be shaking their heads in disbelief.

We know that those in positions of power and who are awarded high status, often above their ability, are definitely not the most intelligent or bright people. It’s the same in the art world, and every profession. :-/

On a serious note, these troughers have an agenda. I know that is crediting them with some kind of intelligence, but they are mostly briefed and schooled (!) :-/ in what to say, how to say it and when to say it. The ‘beak’ comment from Dick Leonard was just a disgrace and Nicola Sturgeon looked fed up with the whole bloody lot of these Britnat time and money wasters, and who could blame her.

Not sure how First Ministers questions proceeded after the ‘beak’ incident, but it’s obvious that these Britnats are attempting to bring the Scottish parliament down, by bringing up issues that a town council ( maybe like, Leicester?) has to deal with, not a legitimate, parliamentary debating chamber, in a legitimate democratic Nation. They are attempting to de- legitimise the Scottish parliament as they have stared to do with devolution.

The Britnats tried the ‘one party state’ thing, but that failed, so now they demean and debase our parliament to prepare for when their masters in London take over. They think. They are planning, and plotting all the time, or rather their intelligence are.

We have to second guess about what is going on behind Britnats’ closed Britnat doors, and stay alert.

In reality, First Ministers questions should have been about the POWER GRAB, and why wasn’t it? That is the only relevant and most crucial matter, yet was it even mentioned?

Scotland’s democracy is in peril, stay alert and stay one step ahead.

The teacher found it a very useful tool in reinforcing her methods and where she thought her pupils were in their numeracy and literacy development. We chatted with the wee yin before and after about it and everyone was very relaxed about it. It is not infeasible to suggest that all these Labour persons took test before 5 years old for admission to their school that they attended. It seems to have clouded their judgement and that has made a lot of people ill. It was Labour that introduced tests. Demanded more tests at a younger age. More attainment and the publishing of school lists results. A unionists device. Kids answers a few question on paper every day. Standard education practice worldwide. Kids who show any fear or stress can be exempt. Testing done another way. Not compulsory for additional needs. Some unionists should go back to school and see what’s happening. They really are quite ignorant.

The Tories are introducing grammar school, selections and more tests. Stress in schools. Oxbridge are funded 2000 to one with public money of every other university in the U.K. Totally unfair and not inclusive. Allowing former students to go out and ruin the world economy with their paper degrees. Causing stress all over the world. Still nothing is being done about it.

Ah! Yes!, galamcennalath, but I believe I may be able to explain the reason they have not done so by quoting you an example of how their head office in London have operated in the fairly recent past.

Not so long ago there was a wee spot of bother with the then Labour dominated council in Glasgow. London sent a man up who deselected several sitting councillors and replaced them with candidates chosen by the London Labour head office.

As a result several of the deselected councillors jumped ship and some even joined the SNP. In the subsequent council elections Labour lost control of Glasgow Council.

Now it is only my speculation but perhaps Labour Head Office in London secretly want rid of Scottish Labour, who are after all, financed from London and are perhaps seen as a drain upon Labour head office.

Or, would it mean closing the local ‘admin’ (i.e. the Scottish branding, the Scottish conference) and simply become a centralised party run from London? They would still put up candidates, but under a UK wide brand. Truth is, that would be more honest.

The tweets by that Topher McG? were absolutely hilarious. London Labour in Scotland’s quoted figures include their social club members as party members but in some areas of Scotland the local working men’s club is the only real local boozer and local entertainment centre and a great many of the club’s members are not Labour voters.

One look at the audiences of the British Conservative & Unionist Party conferences in Scotland exposes a few ranks of, rather aged, blue rinsed women with fur coats an nae drawers.

The only threats and abuse I received, for doing my job, was from Labour members. I generally handled it on the spot, face to face, telling them I wasn’t paid to take their abuse, and they had to moderate their language/behaviour.

It was a culture, because it was obvious they bullied your Director, who then bullied you, and then you had to tell them to step off!!

To be fair, the first person who tried to address the culture was McConnell. There was a huge issue about train staff being physically harassed etc., so he started to push for public services staff to be protected.

It was very male dominated too, which proved a challenge when a female manager denied them anything.

Brexit: A warning from Wales and Scotland
    June 15, 2018 at 15:06

The governments of Wales and Scotland have issued a joint letter, raising concerns about the status of European citizens following Brexit.

The letter calls on ministers to urgently address the impact of the ‘Settlement Plan’ for European Economic Area (EEA) citizens.

This is a letter to the Home Secretary, Sajid Javid, and signed by the Finance Secretary for Wales, Mark Drakeford, and Foreign Affairs Secretary for Scotland, Fiona Hyslop.

The letter offers a warning about the “great uncertainty” in Wales and Scotland over the plan.

“It is quite possible that a significant number of people are at risk of falling out on ‘settled’ status because they fail – or they do not know that they need – to apply,” said the letter.

“This ongoing lack of detail is a serious issue for our two governments, but also worrying EEA citizens. These citizens are concerned about how Brexit will affect their future, and the future of their families. “

” … Does that imply that they have given up completely on Scotland and a presence here, becoming an England and Wales only party?”

Not really, in fact the, “Man from London”, thing has been done lots of times but the public were not made aware of Labour’s headquarters actions. There really is no such party as, “Scottish Labour”, registered in the United Kingdom.

Here is a, very long, list of the registered political parties in the United Kingdom – some of them will surprise you:-

    http://search.electoralcommission.org.uk/Search/Registrations?currentPage=1&rows=10&sort=RegulatedEntityName&order=asc&et=pp&register=gb&register=ni&register=none&regStatus=registered&optCols=CampaigningName&optCols=EntityStatusName&optCols=ReferendumName&optCols=DesignationStatusName&optCols=CompanyRegistrationNumber&optCols=FieldingCandidatesInEngland&optCols=FieldingCandidatesInScotland&optCols=FieldingCandidatesInWales&optCols=FieldingCandidatesInEurope&optCols=FieldingCandidatesMinorParty&optCols=ReferendumOutcome

It is a very long URL but should be clickable.

What describes itself as “The Scottish Labour Party”, is not a registered political party but is described as, “A Labour Party Accountancy Unit”.

Matter of fact you will have a very hard job Googling to find out an address for Labour headquarters. Looks to me as if they don’t want the public to know where Labour’s headquarters are.

In fact it seems to be:-

    105 Victoria St, Westminster, London SW1E 6QT

Laughably a simple Google for, “Labour Party Head Office”, returns an address in Tranent in Scotland. You really just have to laugh.

Whereas a Google for SNP headquarters returns this:

    Gordon Lamb House, 3, Gentle’s Entry, Edinburgh EH8 8PJ.
believe it or not there is a registered Political Party called. “Abolish the Scottish Parliament Party”.

You wouldn’t believe some of the parties on that list but there is no such party as The Scottish Labour Party, among them.

And this latest moronic behaviour by Christopher Chope in blocking the anti-upskirting law for England and Wales (apparently the offence already exists in Scotland as an act of voyeurism) is doing the Tories no favours at all, either. (Not as if we care …)

And is Ruthie playing hide and seek? So much for the mainstream media’s darling. She’s gone to ground somewhere, no doubt.

Ah! I see your problem, Scott, you didn’t realise that Broon wasn’t addressing his views for your benefit but for the declining numbers of remaining supporters who believe in the, now very much disunited, United Kingdom. When you watch FMQs and realise just how very pathetic the leadership of the yoonatics really is then you realise Broon has to keep things very much to a very simple and pathetic level.

What that brainless idiot, Leonerd didn’t say, and probably didn’t know, was that the question put to the children was in the form of a multiple choice question :-

Q: The Humming Bird has a thin beak. What is another word for beak?

    A1: Skin.

    A2: Bill.

    A3: Body.

Now just how stressful would that question be as posed to a school aged child when put in that manner?

I’ll tell you this much – if any of my kids, when school age, had been unable to answer that multi-choice question I’d have been taking them to see a Doctor. Yet that numptie Leonard obviously though it was far to challenging. I wonder what HIS personal I.Q. is if he thought it over taxing.

And then to have his party representatives try to back it up with what turns out to be highly amusing suggestions of how difficult the question is, and it’s not even the bloody question that was actually asked in the first place?

I have said it repeatedly elsewhere; the SNP are not exceptional political giants. They’re bloody amazing in the Scottish political landscape though; because they are utterly blessed by the standard of their political opposition. It’s easy to be a giant when all your opponents are tiny.

Achieving 51% of total electorate actually requires what would be 60% of a turnout of the 85% as per last referendum. We are back in 1979 territory in effect that those who never vote and the dead will be counted as no voters.

We need to say it is 51% of what a normal turnout would be, the last was 85%. I would suggest anything over 45% of total electorate is a valid yes vote, that’s equates to about 52% of the 2014 turnout.

It may be better to use a method that forces them to vote, what that method is I’m not sure.

I was just highlighting the problems of achieving this as I would suggest around 30% are died in the wool Unionists.
