Status update 26

Posted on April 06, 2014 by

Just to remind readers who haven’t already seen it on Twitter or Facebook – Wings has been under a heavy spam-flood attack for most of today, and we’re having ongoing technical issues with commenting due to security measures while we try to get it all sorted out. Most comments are being treated as first-time users, which means they have to be manually approved, and we’re not sitting up all night doing it.

That means that if you post on the poll story that’s going up at 1am, you might have to wait until daylight hours to see your comment, so please don’t post the same one 40 times trying to make it appear, or a string of increasingly grumpy “Where’s my comment gone?” messages, which won’t appear either.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

A rush and a push 88

Posted on March 29, 2014 by

We suppose we ought to give this a final shove, with just two days to go.

hamishwingsnarrow

We’ve spent a sizeable chunk of your money this week (you’ve only seen some of it so far…) and we’re just off into town to spend some more, so a last wee top-up couldn’t hurt just to make sure we keep the pressure on the failing No campaign up.

Going (on the) underground 308

Posted on March 25, 2014 by

If you haven’t seen them already, a few shots of our ads on the Glasgow Subway, paid for with a small slice of fundraiser money and pictured by some alert readers.

We can’t be certain, but we think this is the first time a news-and-commentary website like Wings has ever taken out real-world advertising anywhere in the UK.

See ’em while you can, though.

Apologies for the delay 38

…to normal service since yesterday afternoon, which was the result of Unionist sabotage from a fifth columnist lurking in the ranks of the Separats. We now have a new ADSL cable (PC World didn’t open until 11am) and we’ll be with you very shortly.

Agents on the scene 344

Posted on March 04, 2014 by

So, wow. Still in its first week, the Wings 2014 fundraiser broke £100,000 last night. We suppose that means we better start fleshing out our “stretch goals” a bit.

And if you’re one of the 99% of readers who haven’t donated yet – perhaps because you’re wasting your money on trivialities like feeding your family or paying bills or something – this is where you can offer us some help that’s just as valuable instead.

Get your feet back on the ground 338

Posted on February 28, 2014 by

A chance comment on Twitter this afternoon gave us a fun thought – with over 230,000 readers a month, could we get a song to No.1 in the charts by ourselves now, as both publicity and a rallying call for the Yes movement?

We got lots of suggestions for songs with apt lyrics about Scotland’s relationship with the UK and catchy tunes, so as democrats we’ve decided to have a poll to pick what would be the best choice if we should decide to attempt the project.

You can cast your vote below.

They don’t believe you exist 191

Posted on February 27, 2014 by

Our old pal Euan McColm of Scotland on Sunday and ThinkScotland (also a stalwart of BBC/STV punditry, and formerly of the disgraced News Of The World) thinks you’re all just a figment of our imagination, readers.

mccolmfund

If you’re not following, the implication (also made by James Mackenzie of “Better Nation”) is that we’re taking the money out of the fundraiser as soon as it comes in, then paying it back in ourselves as a new donation to artificially inflate the total.

(Although we’re not quite sure WHY we’d be doing that, as it would only result in us losing a sizeable chunk of the money we already had in commission every time we “recycled” it, and it would dissuade people from donating because they saw we’d already hit our target, and finally it’d mean that we then had to fund all the things we promised to do without actually having the money to pay for them.)

We’ve offered to show Mr McColm the books, on the condition that he writes an article for Scotland on Sunday or the Scotsman, openly and directly accusing us of what he implies in the tweets above. Let’s see how that goes.
