Wings Over Scotland

The angry saboteurs

Posted on November 06, 2016 by

There are three separate articles in today’s Sunday Times on the same subject, all containing the same information, of which the below is the most concise.

timeschina

So let’s recap the events, shall we?

1. In March, the Scottish Government signed a “memorandum of understanding” with some Chinese companies to discuss potential investment by the companies in Scotland, possibly worth up to £10bn. A press release was issued by one of the companies and the apparent good-news story was covered – reluctantly and (natch) slightly inaccurately – in the Scottish press.

scotsmansino

2. In April the Unionist parties and the rest of the media noticed the agreement and whipped up a storm of shrill fury about the “secrecy” involved and the vague unsuitability of one of the Chinese firms.

cosychrichton

The outrage went on for days, weeks and months, with all sorts of different reasons given as to why Scots should be scandalised that their government was attempting to attract foreign investment and jobs. The Times’ reporter/columnist (it’s so hard to tell these days) Michael Glackin was prominent in the fury.

china1

3. It’s now been revealed that the “political fallout” – that is, the reaction from the media and the opposition parties – has in fact scuppered the deal, with the Chinese understandably not wanting to be caught up in the toxic crossfire of such extraordinary hostility towards the SNP.

chinafallout

4. The people responsible for losing Scotland up to £10bn are now howling at the Scottish Government over the deal’s collapse, and the fact that it didn’t shout about that collapse from the rooftops, even though there was no actual “deal” to collapse in the first place. The Chinese had merely agreed to discuss one, then ran away in horror as Labour, the Tories and the Times descended upon them like screeching harpies from Hades.

Glackin, having almost certainly done more than any other individual to sink the agreement and wreak serious harm on Scotland’s economy, then had the brass neck to pen a mind-bogglingly enraged piece about the SNP’s ineptitude.

glackin1

It concludes with paragraphs which plainly acknowledge that the chief culprit in the “debacle” was Glackin himself (along with his hack colleagues and opposition MSPs), yet still summons the chutzpah to thunder that it “marks a new nadir in [the SNP’s] abysmal decade in power”, and is “a national disgrace”.

glack2

Those two comments are, of course, probably true, just not in the way that Michael Glackin appears to think. It’s been clear for a long time that the opposition parties and the Unionist media are more than happy to damage Scotland in their neverending quest to attack the SNP. It’s a little surprising to see them this angry on one of the few occasions when it’s actually worked.

Their mission is to destroy the SNP. If Scotland suffers casualties in commerce or justice along the way, then they view that as a price worth paying to establish the “old order”.

They are Scottish by accident of birth but give allegiance first and foremost to the British State. They profess to wanting the best for Scotland but put every other aspect ahead of that expressed wish. Their focus is on anything which holds Scotland back and keeps it tied to the British State. Football, religion. political parties are just some of the tentacles on these beasties.

They have served so long they have no concept of what it is to be free. Their obligation and their loyalty is to a bigger State.

We gave fought through that imprisonment whilst they dutifully serve.

The Chinese ‘minders’ physically assaulted anyone they did not like the look of and the UK police were told to look the other way, so that China was not upset.

I suspect it is far more likely that the UK Foreign Office clandestinely became involved after Brexit and advised China that they would look on it very favourably if China simply dropped the Jocks’ deal, in preference over Hinkley & other English commercial interests.

Eyes on the prize people. What kind of trade deal is represented by Scotland staying in the EU?

I don’t mean it in a xenophobic way, but the Brits best beware that the biggest commodity they will be exporting to the Chinese is U.K. wealth. Look at Rover. I was in Beijing the year before the Olympics, and it’s a remarkable place. For example, you could by a Toyota Landcruiser for about the same as you would pay in the U.K., or you could buy the Chinese version, which looked like a Landcruiser, performed like a Landcruiser, quacked like a Landcruiser, and in every capacity apart from its badge, was a Landcruiser, but it cost about a quarter the price.

Scotland should be satisfied with Europe, and the protection we have for our branded goods protected by trade treaties which the Westminster government wants torn up.

I liked the Chinese people. They are a clever and resourceful people, and back then modernising their country at breakneck speed. But given the choice, I would plant my feet in Europe and sell Scotch Whisky to anyone, rather than have a trade deal with the Chinese and before I know it see Chinese Whisky being imported into the U.K. That isn’t a dig at the Chinese by the way, far from it, but Scotland will be in the driving seat with European deals because we’ll be sovereign, whereas any deal with the UK is essentially a deal by proxy, and we know how expendable Scottish Industry becomes at a U.K. Level.

I think you have it correct, the Chinese would not be bothered about western media being a bit nasty about them. Some faction of UKok has had a hand in this. They are criminals, who will lay waste to Scotland, while keeping their iron grip on our resources.

They want Scotland kept as poor as possible, to undermine any progress being made by the SNP government. It is also orchestrated to keep Scotland shackled, begging bowl in hand, and keeping full control of their resource rich, minimally devolved neighbour.

I guess in places like south America they just kill off the left leaning, indigenous party leaders and activists, and pay the security services handsomely for oppressing anyone who attempts to retain any autonomy in their own country.

Here, they are using a slightly different tactic, strangling the country by keeping control of the purse strings and destroying industry, as well as blocking any new investment, then blaming the party in power in Scotland, the SNP. Win win for the unionists, and their pals abroad.

“Jockanese Wind Talker says, 3 November, 2016 at 4:17 pm”

The Oil & Gas Authority launched a new website on 3 October 2016 to reflect its new status as a government company.

This formalises the transfer of the Secretary of State’s regulatory powers in respect of oil and gas to the OGA, and grants it new powers.

So that’s why there’s no State Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change.

Whoever is running this “government company” must be on a good screw.

Also doubt it is in the best interests of the Scottish Government.

    Then:

@ Glamaig replied and posted this from their Website previously on the “God-have-mercy-on-us-all” thread by Glamaig says 3 November, 2016 at 4:53 pm

‘On 1 October 2016 we became a government company, limited by shares under the Companies Act 2006, with the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy the sole shareholder.’

    https://www.ogauthority.co.uk/

So there you have it The Oil & Gas Authority are now a UK Government owned Limited Company.

You can argue all day just how much of an influence their The Vow fraud actually had on the course of Scottish democracy, Scottish histroy, UK history and ofcourse the DR’s rapidly buried it. But Torcuil is a very significant figure, in Scotland and our road to self rule, or not, pending the publication of Torcuil and chums, The Vow 2.

Do Torcuil and chums at the DR have to sheer gall to do another historic The Vow 2 fraud? You betcha. Are there enough proud Scotbuts like Torcuil, that want to believe again in Torcuil?

    Probably.

In our wee Scotland we’re almost used to that level of tyranny from the media and Unionist parties and dare we to say a word or demonstrate against this behaviour we are named as vile sub humans for doing it

Even amongst our own supporters now the yoke of abuse is beginning to be worn comfortably with constant reminders of maintaining good behaviour from our side and to take the higher ground while awaiting justice

Trouble with this patience for justice thing is we’re waiting for the very people who excuse the vilest of behaviour amongst themselves but brook no dissent from elsewhere or opposing views from anyone without the most unpleasant of rebukes and even to threats

For the most part the good people of the YES movement and beyond have waged a war of words humour and sarcasm to fight the good fight and for the most part were it a boxing match we’d be well ahead on points and a dead cert for a win barring a knockout
But we have a couple of problems inasmuch as the referee the judges the promoter and the TV company have fixed the fight so our opponent wins no matter what we do
It’s a bit like fighting in Germany, as any boxer will tell you, you have to knock out your opponent to get a draw

If no other strategies can’t be employed Scotland will be a dried out husk of a dustbowl before it’s Independent but by then depopulated from lack of employment and opportunity or it will have been taken over completely by our useless cousins in the South post wrecking their own flooded out wetland to move North after the next round of Scottish clearances

“In June 2013, the UK government asked Sir Ian Wood of Wood Group to conduct a review into maximising the recovery of oil and gas from the UK Continental Shelf. One of the recommendations of the Wood Review was the creation of an independent economic regulator for the sector.[2] Subsequently the OGA was launched on 1 April 2015 as an executive agency of DECC.”

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_and_Gas_Authority

Read a bit more now and it’s status has indeed changed from that of an executive agency.

“On 1 October 2016 we became a government company, limited by shares under the Companies Act 2006, with the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy the sole shareholder.”

    https://www.ogauthority.co.uk/about-us/what-we-do/

None of this changes my opinion though in that it would cease to have any relevance in an Independent Scotland. It’s not an asset at all and is fully funded by a levy on the Oil Companies with assets in the UK sector of the North Sea. It can’t make a profit so is worthless. Just another talking shop in support of the Tories.

The connection between language and inherent power relations was understood by Gorbachev who led his country through enormous political transition using the language of negotiation, not superiority and subordination.

Unlike the hapless WM regime with its toxic mouthpiece that remain immersed in the past of inglorious imperialism and articulate a Pavlovian response to anything aspirational or advantageous regarding Scotland. Add in to the mix Scotland’s right to self -determination and to manage its own affairs and one is exposed on multiple levels to the authoritarian vernacular that serves to constantly remind Scotland that it is an inferior region of the UK bereft of political and democratic capability.

Come to that you insult the People of Scotland too for, like it or not, we Scots are every bit as British as those who belong to the Kingdom of England part of the bipartite United Kingdom and those British people from outwith the United Kingdom.

Just why are you so ready to do the Westminster Establishment’s propaganda for them?

For that is exactly what it is you are doing. It has long been Westminster’s claim that the Kingdom of England are sovereign over the rest of Britain but they are not and never have been.

They have been making these claims since before the Birth of Christ but even the Roman Empire has never had sovereignty over either the crown heads of Scotland nor the sovereign people of Scotland.

The people of the three country Kingdom of England are simple just one part of Britain and they should never be allowed to forget it.

When we Scots leave we will end the United Kingdom. Yet these Englanders, and their supporters in Scotland, are still claiming there will be a United Kingdom, but when Scotland pulls out of the United Kingdom the union is finished.

The union known as The United Kingdom has never involved any other kingdoms that those of Scotland and England and we need no further proof of that than the signatures on the Treaty of Union that formed The United Kingdom.

Wales and Ireland came into the Union as integral parts of the Kingdom of England and no other Kingdoms have ever been formed in Britain since that Treaty became a legal agreement in 1707.

There are indeed four countries in the United Kingdom but the name, “United Kingdom”, attests to the truth that are there still only two partner kingdoms in the United Kingdom. The real problem is that Westminster sees itself, and indeed treats itself, as the Parliament of the country of England that has devolved the power of the country of England to everyone else.

@liz 7.37pm: The following is a quote from Prof.Richard Dawkin’s essay – today on his RDF website.

“I like to think of my life as governed by rational decisions, but I have to admit that my attempt to learn German in my quixotic seventies is governed more by emotion—an emotion that might strike some as positively irrational. I don’t specifically need German for my life or my work. No, my motive is almost akin to penance: a personal atonement, however futile, for the pathos-ridden arrogance of my nation. Brexit has made me ashamed to be English. I’m ashamed of the England of Farage and his xenophobic yobs—and of Cameron whose cowardly opportunism gave them their head. I’m ashamed to be English, not British: I’d be proud to be Scottish or Irish today.
Brexit is the obvious recent manifestation of both the arrogance of the English and its ignominious unjustifiability, but it has shown itself for longer in our attitude to the learning of languages. Insofar as we teach languages at school, we treat them like Latin, with no expectation that, having mastered gerunds and the subjunctive, there’s any need to end up actually having a conversation with Johnny Foreigner.” Well said Richard!

There was a time when I thought it was time and money well spent to go to London to hear his Keynote speech to the Secular Society.

Except it turned out that when there was a good chance of a Secular government/Constution on these islands he not only didn’t at that time have the courage of his convictions, and put his weight behind it,he signed up to keep Scotland in a regime that has very little chance of getting rid of the malign influence of religion in his or his grandchildrens life time.

If he has had a change of heart that’s very welcome
ofcourse, but as a public figure who put his name behind better together he has a bit of ground to make up to be convincing that he is doing anything other than trying to advise England and her church led population what to do.
To be convincing that a country moving forward to a Secular democracy is something he does support.

Apparently some bad economic news about China’s reserves is expected tomorrow and is likely to result in some economic belt-tightening.

Another possible reason for them going cold on pursuing the possibility ofa deal was that the MOU made it clear that any agreement had to meet Scots Law and EU law. The Chinese wanted to use their own model which was one of the reasons why the SG intervened in the discussions between the Chinese and Falkirk Council who were likely to accept the Chinese terms rather than ensure they met domestic and EU law.

The deal wasn’t announced because there wasn’t a deal to announce. There was a memorandum of understanding to discuss doing a deal – that was announced. It was all over the press. It had the Yoons spitting bile.

They couldn’t announce the cancellation of the deal because there wasn’t a deal to cancel. Again, just in case you’re not absorbing this; there was a memorandum of understanding to discuss doing a deal but the Chinese decided not to go to the discussion stages because of the political uproar from the the Holyrood Unionist alliance and their tame media. China National Offshore Oil Corporation (Cnooc), which is controlled by the Communist Party in Beijing, runs two of the North Sea’s biggest oilfields. Nexen, a Cnooc-owned company, is responsible for extracting almost 200,000 barrels a day in the area, more than 10 per cent of output.

You can find good and bad in every people, but many Chinese have a deep mistrust of Europeans, and call us white ghosts in a derogatory kind of way, much the same as we might call them Chinks. They are also deeply resentful of the Japanese due to their conduct in Manchuria. Where the UK has lots of propaganda films about plucky British stiff upper lip beating the Germans, so the Chinese have films about the Japanese. They are also well indoctrinated into the love of their country by their own media, with much of the entertainment coming from military bands from the services or police. It sounds like the stereotypical communist propaganda, but it isn’t so very different from the UK propaganda from Ice Cold in Alex to the Military Tattoos.

The Chinese however do have a very small soft spot for Scotland, and its thanks to Scotland’s gold medal Olympic runner, Eric Liddell, made famous in the Chariots of Fire film. A devout Christian, Liddell turned his back of fame and celebrity to work as a missionary in China, and stood by the Chinese when Japanese invaded when he could easily have abandoned them and kept himself safe. He was interned in a Japanese internment camp with the Chinese, but worked extraordinarily hard at keeping the camp healthy and decent morale in very difficult circumstances. By all accounts Mr Liddell was a fine gentleman of indefatigable character, and was held in the highest regard by those who knew him. The Chinese children he taught called him uncle Eric. Sadly, Eric Liddell did not survive internment, but died of a brain tumour exacerbated by deprivations and overwork of his circumstances leaving a desperate gap but an honourable legacy in the camp.

The bottom line is the Chinese have good reason to mistrust the Europeans, especially the colonial British, but through Eric Liddell who stood by them in dire adversity, they also know we are not all the proverbial bad guys.

I’ve said it before, but trading with China is a double edged sword, and it is very likely the biggest U.K. export to China will be UK wealth and technology. The days when Britain could exploit underdeveloped countries for their resources are long gone. Don’t forget the resourceful Chinese can run communism at a profit, and have no fear of a small faraway nation of shopkeepers. They will see through the bullshit, and know very well that China is a superpower Sitting in the driving seat.

China will respect Scotland when Scotland respects itself and stands for its own independence.

This fascist, racist terminology from British nationalist is becoming hysterical and dangerous. By the way alliteration of the type very typical of mad British journalism but impossible in Gwoyeu (Chinese national langage – mandarin). If he doesn’t much enjoy yoghurt, mix it with something like sardines – although they are oily fish, they don’t seem to interfere but remove excess oil or brine first and don’t give the tomato sauce plastered fish.

I notice a lot of commentators regard this as a special deal between China and Scotland, however that was just the teeniest piece of the overall commercial expansionist planning of the Chinese government, wishing to invest in Europe under their “One Belt One Road” strategy.

As part of that policy the Chinese government investments’ abroad are massive, amounting to $870 billion at the end of 2014, according to data released by the Heritage Foundation with expansion planned worldwide to reach nearly $20 trillion by 2020.

Hinckley point being built by the French Government and financed by the Chinese government in England, will soon also have a sister plant, this time built and financed solely by the Chinese government. Imagine for one second the outrage if the Scottish government wanted a Chinese investment in decommissioning a Scottish plant? Now ask yourselves why the Chinese think Scotland to much trouble.

Worth restating that the Scottish Government stated the memorandum “is intended as a statement of intent and a platform to share confidential information, not a binding legal agreement”. whereas Westminster has signed a legal binding agreement for billions of investment.

Also worth stating the section of the MOU regarding publicity “Each party may make public reference to the existence of this MOU as it thinks relevant and appropriate, provided that each party will obtain the approval of the other parties for the contents of any press release relating to the terms of this MOU prior to issue of such press release. Now given the date of the understanding and the freedom of information request by the BBC was only a matter of days, the BBC must have been briefed by “Other Interested Parties” to the contents of the memorandum.

Another salient point is the Chinese are pretty adept at looking at other countries emails and secret communications, Mrs May hasn’t sole patent on that technology. So it is indeed ironic that Europe in particular has welcomed the Chinese largess with open arms, especially in the wake of the global financial crisis and sluggish euro zone economic growth. But Scottish politicians and press in their blinkered political narrow-mindedness and financial, ignorance and incompetence could have scuppered any future chance in financial investment by what is and will continue to be the largest financial investor in the world.

Using unbelievably the excuse that Norway have an ethical wealth fun (we can’t because we have given ours to Westminster), well there is plenty of ethical wealth funds, I wonder how many MSP, or journalists’ have invested in them? now that’s a good question!!!

But as other governments including the Westminster one, have realised that Chinese investment would also require a change in attitude from recipient markets and their politicians to take full advantage of the opportunities and contain the risks, we are blessed with the financial ineptitude of the Scottish Unionists, whereas in Europe and America, characteristics such as the size, growth and complexity of the Chinese government’s economic offering have not hindered them in the least, regardless of their lack of openness to foreign direct investment.

Had I been involved in any “Heads of Agreement” with another company, then found those discussions supposedly confidential were being openly discussed by “Other Interested Parties” in such a way as to maximise any damage to either the agreement or subsequent contracts, a curt missive informing the other company to take a hike would land in their in tray faster than Ruth Davidson can mount a beast.

My Final point regards the actual instrument used by the Chinese government, that is the Railway company 3, it is a part of the Chinese government, think of it like a window cleaner, to keep it simple, getting an order from the Tax office to clean the windows, you can’t say you won’t take the order from the pensions office on the grounds that you dislike the Conservative Government of Mrs May, but that is the ridiculous argument put forward by the opponents of this MOU. They would destroy Scotland rather than say well done Scottish government officials who brokered the deal, incidentally the same officials who would do so regardless of the party in office. As have the civil service officials in Westminster when they brokered the actual Chinese investment deals worth 10 times what the MOU proposed.

This, it’s argued, might tie the PM’s hands in forthcoming negotiations with the EU.
While the government is hopeful the Supreme Court will overturn the ruling in the High Court last week, they are now considering ditching plans for legislation to begin the Brexit process and instead having a ‘one-off’ vote in Parliament. How does it sound to the rest of the world when you advertise this: Our political and media environment is so hostile, your potential inward investment may be put at risk. Its so bad in fact, that we’ve already managed to put off one potential investor, but come aboard anyway.

Mibbies me, but I recall that the UK was supposedly open for business. That the UK government had urged the Scottish parliament to make the best of the opportunities Brexit afforded in the world market. That the order of the day was NOT to frighten the horses and get out there to encourage inward investment.

The memo apparently didn’t reach the local branch managers or the wider press it seems. Or, if it did, they simply weren’t listening. They’ve spent the months since this MoU was first mentioned trying to tear the SNP and it apart in no particular order. That’s what the assault has always been about. Doesn’t matter that UK gov have been brokering deals with the same folk and far, FAR worse in their day. Its about preventing the Scottish Government from brokering deals on its own and damaging the credibility of the SNP in government. That potential investment and jobs are lost is no great shakes. This IS after all… politics as it is practised.

The MoU was signed 21st March, Holyrood dissolved 24th March, but the election period purdah started at midnight on 23 March 2016. After that time no official government policy is supposed to be announced, or it breaks purdah.

So the only time the MoU could have been announced to Parliament was the 22nd or 23rd March.

But that “gagging clause” could arguably be restrictive on the Scottish Government so soon – within 2 days – of the actual signing, as the Chinese parties might want to announce it to their shareholders etc. That would be a genuine reason for not making a public announcement, even to parliament, over those 2 days.

Very shortly after CR3 “leaked” the information and the row blew up. Some would say grossly overdone with a total lack of discretion or care about the potential £10 billion investment, by the opposition and the anti-SNP press. I’d be one!

What has become more than abundantly clear is that those who are supportive of, “The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland”, are, without reasonable doubt, the most poorly educated people on the entire planet known as Earth.

Among that main category, there are, of course, several sub-categories. Perhaps the largest sub-group are the common people who comprise the vast majority of those who support the United Kingdom. However, we can hardly blame the Hoi Polloi as they are subjected to those they, (the Hoi Polloi), consider to be their betters and their masters for it is they, (their masters), who also regulate the educational establishments that teach the Hoi Polloi what really is laughingly called, “The English Language”.

Whether it be by design or for the duel purposes of, political expediency or just plain old political propaganda these educators have failed to teach the Hoi Polloi their own native language. Most of them now do actually speak English like a native – That is a Native of the Planet Zog.

The present furore drummed up by the totally ignorant Main-Stream Media is only the latest in a long line of English Language idiocies that expose those who hilariously claim to be Journalists but who, in reality, could hardly even be regarded as cub-reporters who make no attempt to even properly report any news whatsoever.

The present drummed up idiocy is that the Scottish Government’s agreement with the Chinese was anything more than a, “Memorandum of Understanding”, that in no way could be reasonably considered as a, “Deal”, “Contract”, or, “Treaty”, of any sort.

The thing is that these people are speaking, writing and reading a language that bears only a passing resemblance to the actual English language in that it uses, more or less, English Language words and roughly English Language Grammar and punctuation.

The problem is that their language not only invents semi-pseudo-English, i.e. “Brexit”, that not only makes the idiotic error that all, “Britain”, and not only, “The United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland”, is intending to leave the EU but it misinterprets actual English Language words.

Whether this be by design, intent to mislead. of just pure ignorance I must leave up to Wingers to decide for themselves.

Let us consider the more obvious examples.

They speak of, “Britain”, but interpret that as being only, “The United Kingdom of Britain & Northern Ireland”, part of Britain.

They then compound that error by the liberal use of the geographic term, “Great Britain”, to also mean either, “Britain”, “Great Britain”, and, “The United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland. Then, to confuse the matter even further, they interpret the term, “Kingdom”, as being synonymous with their other misunderstood terms and compound that by also interpreting any of the former terms with, “The Country”, “The Whole Country”, and, believe it or not, even equating all the previous misinterpretations with, “England”, (Whether that be, “England”, the country, or, “England”, the kingdom is never made clear.

There are many, many more examples to be found throughout the media every hour of the day. Is it any wonder the Hoi Polloi are utterly fooled and confused when their perceived betters and masters are feeding them this utterly confused garbage every day?

Where to start with human rights across the world? Willie’s nonsense just shows how desperate they are to duck away from any involvement in what was primarily their unionist fault.

A giant investment deal with massive potential for Scotland goes down the drain and its all thanks to the unionists in Scotland.

    Going forward,

“According to The Sunday Times, the Chinese pulled the plug in August due to the outcry, with a senior insider close to the talks saying the fallout was received “very badly” in the Far East where the episode has become known as “the Scottish shambles”.

So if this kind of deal crops again and it probably will, does the whole great UKOK unionist media lie machine and blue tory go SNP bad hysterical like this time, or do they ease off a bit?

The problem @ heedtracker says at 2:14 pm with Dr Scott Ars*hole is that he doesn’t think (despite what his moniker says).

Let me put it like this:

Aberdeenshire Council had 2 By-Elections last week (I know you know this as I’ve see your posts but gies a minute to explain my point).

    Ward 1 (Banff and District):

    Fib Dems got 526 votes
    The SNP got 962 and
The Tories got 1170 and won the seat.
    BLiS didn’t/couldn’t stand a candidate

    Ward 11 (Inverurie and District):

    Fib Dems got 755 votes
    The SNP got 1,164 votes
    BLiS got 139
    and
The Tories got 1,302 and won the seat.

Kezia was in the ‘states during the final few days of campaigning, but The Ruthenfuhrer made an unannounced appearance in Inverurie.

Turnout was low and The Neo-Facist Voice of The North were full on monstering the SNP/SG while bigging up the Ruth Davidson ‘No Surrender to Referendums’ Party.

Even so the total number of votes BLiS got was 139 across 2 by-elections!!

This despite numerous “listening exercises” conducted by BLiS to find out why voters are continuing to abandon their party in droves.

Dr Scott Ars*hole (Who’s doesn’t think but claims to) then says that the SNP are blaming BLiS for this “secret China deal” failing, and in doing so defaults to that classic BLiS Party line of SNPBaaaad.

So “listening exercises” results can’t be being listened to or are asking the wrong questions.

We Wingers all know Dr Scott Ars*hole is on speed dial to UKOKaye on BBC Pravda a.m. but deep down must know that his ‘analysis’ will not be required once Scotland regains her independence and the MSM down South won’t require his Uncle Tam input.

Dr Scott Ars*hole (Who doesn’t think but claims to) and his ilk must also be aware that like their beloved BLiS Red Tory Party they have no relevance to a progressive future iScotland.

And that’s why he is such an angry wee shite because even he must know this as fact even as he types his vile we nonsense tweets and his Labour Hame drivel.

Whatever the full circumstances behind the outcome of the Scotland – China MoU, Scotland’s ability to secure Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is notable: the evidence indicates that Scotland is an attractive place to invest and, by extension, the Scottish government agencies charged with facilitating investments would appear to be competent and successful.

A key source here is the annual Ernst & Young UK Attractiveness Survey: this provides data on performance in attracting Foreign Direct Investment. The most recent data are for 2015 (http://www.ey.com/Publication/vwLUAssets/2016_Scotland_Attractiveness_Survey/$FILE/EY-Scotland-Attractiveness-Survey-2016.pdf). The EY report notes for 2015:

“… Scotland enjoying its best year on record.”

“EY’s Global Investment Monitor (GIM) on FDI projects into Scotland in 2015 reveals that the number of inward investments into Scotland surged by more than half over the previous year. This confirms that the ability of the Scottish economy to attract and secure cross-border investments remains both strong and growing.”

“… Scotland outpaced the rate of growth at a UK level, enabling it to increase its share of all UK FDI projects from 9% to 11%.”

The UK report confirms Scotland’s performance lags only behind London’s. In general therefore, Scotland’s dealings over FDI are evidently very far from being a ‘shambles’.

On the likely significance of Brexit, the EY report states (note: the report pre-dated the referendum):

“When asked about how either a significant or substantial decline in the terms of access to the ESM (European Single Market) would impact the UK’s attractiveness, over 50% of investors in both cases said it would have a negative effect whereas only 7% viewed it positively. It seems clear therefore that a risk of change in the terms of access to the ESM is a significant concern for investors.”

And “Interestingly, the degree of change is less important, any reduction in the terms of access currently enjoyed has a significant negative impact on perceptions of the UK’s attractiveness for FDI, which suggest this is a very important issue for the majority of investors.”
