And finally… #31 110

Readers! Scotland on Sunday’s Euan McColm – who is a proper, mature, grown-up journalist, unlike we scurrilous, anonymous blogger types – has a message for you with regard to modern developments in the financing of alternative media sources.

We haven’t actually seen any really nice pictures of the impromptu event in Glasgow last night, or at least we hadn’t until Ross Wood sent us some of his. Check out his website for more beautiful shots of this and other things.

We haven’t had one of these for a wee while, but what better way to welcome back a popular feature strand than with a particularly splendid Unionist Of The Day, found for us by an alert reader in today’s Scottish Sunday Express?

The scary thing is, it’s barely any more mental than the article.

Alert contributor Scott Minto came across a weird little story in The Sun this week. We had a look into it and found the “Loyalist” nutcases responsible, whose Facebook page helpfully also provided us with a much more beautiful and uplifting sight.

A creative reader writes in to notify us of these splendid-looking mugs, and to pledge that all profits (about 45% of the sale price) will be donated to our fundraiser.

Frankly we’re taking them at their word on the second part, but either way they seem a rather excellent thing to have in your home.

It’s old news, but someone finally dug up the actual leaflet. Click for the reason!

If the YesScotland campaign had its wits about it, it’d be running off a million of these with this week’s news stories printed in bold on the back.

Last year, this year 48

Posted on February 22, 2013 by

Last year (24 June 2012, to be precise):

“Homeowners could face a £1 billion rise in mortgage payments in an independent Scotland, Treasury axeman Danny Alexander has warned.

The world’s leading credit rating agencies earlier this year warned Scotland would not be guaranteed the UK’s AAA borrowing status.”

This year:

“The UK has lost its top AAA credit rating for the first time since 1978 on expectations that growth will ‘remain sluggish over the next few years’.

The ratings agency Moody’s became the first to cut the UK from its highest rating, to Aa1. Moody’s said that the government’s debt reduction programme faced significant ‘challenges’ ahead.”

Nice to know we didn’t have to wait for independence, eh?
