It’s basically the police’s own version of a seven-hour “no comment” interview.
Let’s take a moment to remind ourselves of that letter of 20 August, because it was a pretty significant and serious piece of professional correspondence to have been so casually tossed away in three sentences.
To which the formal response of Police Scotland – a public service paid for by, and theoretically answerable to, the people of Scotland – is essentially “Meh, whatever”. The sheer lack of respect, the lazy contempt, not for Wings or even our lawyer but for the electorate who pay their wages, is quite frankly nauseating. They couldn’t even be bothered to deliver it within the 14 days.
The reply leaves pretty much no option but to go ahead with applying for the judicial review, which our legal team is now working on. It’s a complicated process of several stages but we’ll keep you posted as it develops. (We may need to call on you for some support, but that remains to be seen.)
The one thing that’s certain is that Scotland deserves better than this, and if nobody but us is going to act to make that happen, then so be it.

It feels like the most significant thing to have happened since the Indy ref. Something worth getting the band back together for.
This really needs to be sorted if we are to have a realistic chance at Independence and if it requires a blood letting then so be it.

To my mind it suggests they do have some internal documentation which points to the Crown Office in terms of blame.
Either that or (more likely) a previous head/deputy of “Police Scotland” imported from the south & since returned there.

The only thing which surprises me is that there are still some gullible individuals willing to hand over their hard-earned cash to pursue this through the courts. It’s now obvious to anyone with eyes to see that no progress will be possible towards the shared ultimate goal that all nationalists have until this matter is resolved by taking it as far as it needs to go.
However heartsore it makes many of us, we have to admit that independence (even in the unlikely event the current shower in charge of the SNP were in any position to come even close to delivering it) would simply not be worth having on the current terms. If that means the goal is delayed, then so be it.
I for one won’t support the creation of the kind of dystopian banana republic the current pro-independence elites would construct. The stable has to be mucked out first, and I’ll be happy to donate to any crowd funder to ensure that we see this taken to court.

As I, and wiser heads, have remarked before recently, you can’t muck out the stable without having all the kit.
The “kit” in this case would seem to be a well informed and motivated electorate. Given the insistence of all too many sheeple in the movement to continue voting SNP, and the lack of much in the way of charismatic leadership, I’d agree that we possibly lack the “kit” at present.
However, sometimes life comes at you fast. Things people think are solid and immoveable turn out to collapse like a house of cards. Time will tell. I’m not ready to give up altogether, but I don’t think we’re going to achieve meaningful change in the short term sadly.
From the evidence so far, “wiser heads” is still leaving the bar set very low.
To “muck out the stable”, Sovereign Scots need do no more than vote the corrupt and incompetent rabble currently infesting HR out of office. But as we saw as recently as May, Sovereign Scots are happy enough not to do so.
I guess tribalism and the zero-sum belief that voting for those not of your tribe gifts the “enemy” a “victory”, is all that is needed to maintain the stable un-mucked indefinitely.
But for any tribe members wavering in their orthodox beliefs, you can always come along to tell them that we Sovereign Scots are “powerless”, or some other such pathetic excuse for greeting interminably into our drams.

I like to post a number of observations from time to time:
The most vociferous believers in the semi-mythical Scottish Sovereignty seem to be the most committed to sitting about and waiting for somebody else to do something.
A democratically elected, majority, plebiscitary party in government at HR and/or in the Scottish majority at WM will have no need of WM permission for anything. Plus it will already have the democratic mandate needed to engage with international partners.
People who routinely accuse everybody else of “selling out” or “feathering their own nest” shouldn’t be terrified of standing for office as exemplars of probity, trustworthiness, dedication, etc.
Politics, like nature, abhors a vacuum. I suspect the real reason nobody is moving to fill the “vacuum” created by Indy’s lack of real political representation, is that this “vacuum” doesn’t exist, other than in the heads of the faithful. To simplify, ordinary Scots have far more pressing concerns than Indy.
Any suppressed demand for Indy remains suppressed because the utter incompetence, venality and parochialism of the home-grown SNP has long since been pitilessly exposed. Note I write “suppressed”, not “repressed”. This isn’t Orcland.
