Trans Greens Are Greens
Misogynist racist midget Patrick Harvie is furious this week, which is always nice.
It seems he really doesn’t like it up ‘im.
Because the reason for his rage is that he feels the Scottish Greens were denied two extra seats at last week’s election by confusion over a party called Independent Green Voice. The party, which was registered 18 years ago, is a vehicle for loathsome Holocaust denier and former UKIP member Alistair “Manky Shirt” McConnachie, and it attracted a few thousand votes in the election which, had they gone to the Scottish Greens, would have probably won them the extra seats.
(As one reader pointed out, Scottish newspapers are probably secretly distraught that McConnachie didn’t get elected, denying them the chance of some excellent “Manky Goes To Holyrood” headlines.)
Nobody knows how many people mistook the two parties for each other and how many people actually voted for Mr McConnachie’s party in the full knowledge of what they were doing – he has 26,000 followers on Twitter so it seems at least plausible that a few thousand of them could have voted for him entirely on purpose. Nor can that matter ever be established, so the whole story is intrinsically hollow.
(Even if it were possible to interview every IGV voter, which it isn’t, how many people would want to admit being too stupid to even read three words on a ballot paper properly before casting their vote? The Scottish Family Party share two-thirds of their name with the SNP, but nobody’s claiming any confusion there.)
The Scottish Greens have had 18 years to object to the Electoral Commission over IGV’s name, but didn’t do so before now. Nor would the two extra seats have made any sort of difference to the Holyrood electoral balance, only to the party’s coffers.
But more to the point, if Mr McConnachie’s party identifies as a green one, surely it must therefore be one? That is, after all, the Scottish Greens’ mantra. As such, it is every bit as entitled to the votes of Scottish green supporters as what we might perhaps call the biological Scottish Greens.
You can’t have it both ways, Pat. Suck it up.

I remember when the LibDems lost a seat in a general election because someone stood in a marginal constituency as a “Literal Democrat” and got thousands of votes despite not doing any campaigning. His name was higher up the alphabet than the actual LibDem.
Many people did on that occasion admit to having made a mistake, and the number of votes the “Literal Democrat” got was well above the eventual winning margin of the Tory over the LibDem, but the LibDems got nowhere with their attempt to have the vote overturned.
I don’t know if the Literal Democrat candidate was ever outed as a Tory stooge.

The Literal Democrats thing was a load of bollocks anyway, the LibDems trying to get it rerun to give themselves a second chance.
They’d gone to court in 1994 to stop Richard Huggett using the tagline (all part of a family feud), but failed (the presiding judge being Sir Justice Thayne John Forbes, who jailed Harold Shipman the year before).
All they succeeded in doing was giving his candidacy the publicity it could only have dreamed. It also went down badly in Devon and Cornwall, locals feeling the LibDems were insulting their intelligence.
What really cost the Lib Dems the seat though was the continuing Liberal Party, which at that time was still pretty strong in Devon and Cornwall, and whose deputy leader of the time, local county councillor David Morrish, was the candidate. He got 14,621 votes (saving his £1000 deposit), much more than Huggett’s 10,203 and also more than the Greens’ 11,172.
It was only in 1997 – a full three years later – that the law was changed to oblige political parties to register to stop this, although its real target was commercial enterprises abusing the free mail drop facility, and in the case of the Natural Law Party the free party political broadcast more to advertise their wares than any real interest in being elected.
It also strengthened rules to stamp out candidates using the mail drop to surrepticiously advertise (a picture shaking hands with a local businessman with his firms logo prominantly in the background was a favourite) in return for a “donation”.
Patrick Harvie was rejected by the electorate of Glasgow Kelvin by any metric.
SNP won the constituency.
The biological Greens were less popular on “the list”, seeing a greater drop of votes from those cast for the constituency than any other party.

I suggest that with the placement of some absolute roasters ranked 1st on the SNP Regional Lists, (a situation facilitated by some highly dubious and questionably illegal manipulation), and then 1.1 million 2nd votes being cast for the SNP, the answer is a straightforward no, the people do not do their homework.

Scott – the Natural Law Party is a blast from the past. Apparently George Harrison did a benefit gig for them, but I’m not sure Ringo Starr ever weighed in to that political debate.
I vaguely remember at one point around the turn of the century there was a party called the Transvestite Alliance or something like that, but Google wants to correct my thinking and point me towards articles about how great transgenderism is. I’m not sure transvestites exist anymore.

Nobody watching the charade of Scottish politics from afar with even a slither of impartiality could be in any doubt that Sturgeon is working for the British government. It’ll be leaked in some autobiography in 20 years or so when the dust has settled on her disgraceful career.
It’s sad that independence supporters in Scotland can’t see through the play-acting. But it’s often the case that those closest to the worst liars are most likely to swallow and fall prey to their lies.
It’s always worth bearing in mind that the more someone pays for a fake painting, the less likely he or she is to believe it could possibly be fake. The Scottish independence movement has certainly paid for this fugazi.
The latest victim of Sturgeon’s scheming, Craig Murray, would perhaps have been sharing a prison cell with Salmond if she had her way. Mark Hirst or Manny Singh might have been neighbours to them. There are other victims, of course.
My advice to everyone that comments on Wings and Social Media is to buy a good VPN and anonymise your persona. It’s not going to make it impossible to identify you, but it’ll make it much harder for them. You can be sure you will need to do that if you want to discuss the politics of your country with any degree of openness and honesty.
And that’s where you are today in Sturgeon’s Scotland: fearful and facing very real threats to your freedom of expression and liberty, just as they are for the same reasons in places like Myanmar and China.
Why? Because the supposed leader of your party and independence movement will throw you in jail if you tell the truth about certain subjects. It’s going to be easier for her to do that soon, once her thought police and judiciary cohorts get their heads around the new legislation they’ve crafted specifically for the purpose.
You’ve been double-crossed, but things are clearer now in a way. You know who you are up against. Hopefully an authentic independence movement will emerge, leading to real progress and criminal trials against those who have conspired against you.

That would be apposite if her aim was to be worthy of respect, as opposed to hanging onto power for long enough to prepare a springboard on to greater, more lucrative, jobs.

Those tweets are a disgrace and in my view are a kick in the teeth to hard working people out in the private sector. Everyone applying for a new job knows that there is likely a period where the cross over will be a constraint on their budget and most would make plans in advance to reduce the problems. Evidently she didn’t think to make allowances in case she was elected and again in my view she is just another waste of space of a MSP, another snout in the trough and too stupid to keep quiet.
Wee chid, I guess she can use the same clothes that she wears when she is being a councillor, but perhaps they are not good enough for Holyrood. AFAIK she remains a councillor and thus is still on 17K, so not quite penury…
We do need to do more for the environment that is for sure
but there does need to be recognition of what people need
to get on with their lives.
I do a fair bit of driving in my job and I know many others with this same complaint.
Glasgow’s roads are covered in deep and long established pot holes.
I’ve lost a tyre in one and a suspension spring broken and it’s a very
common tale.
To aggravate matters they are closing a lane in many main commuter roads
to dedicate them to cyclists that don’t exist.
I also see many other lesser roads now having speed bumps added adjacent to
the pot holes that already stop you from gathering speed.
I came across yet another set of average speed camera being set up too.
How can anyone justify such massive spending on roads but end up with roads not
fit for driving on?
In 2 hours plus of driving around Glasgow I saw 5 cyclists and 2 of them were on roads
without cycle lanes and wearing professional cycling outfits so I presume this was a leisure
or fitness journey.
I would propose I’d see £1Million investment in new cycle lanes being enjoyed by 3 people.
I’m paying for tyres and parts to go to landfill, I’m stuck in traffic jams spouting out pollution having
lost a lane and I can’t get around as many clients during opening hours so make less money for my
company and for me so pay less tax.
I’ve spoken to friends on this and about 1 in 10 of them think themselves capable of cycling any distance or even willing to try.
Get wet, freeze and slip in the frost and snow, have your wheels stolen when you park up,
risk being struck by other vehicles when you don’t have air bags and carry the bike around
with you when you get a puncture.

It’s not as if she was previously unemployed and was starting from nothing – but that’s the thing with this lot – they are always the victim and have to find something that makes them appear to be put-upon. It’s not that long* since Patrick Harvie himself was being denied a place in leaders debates. I signed a petition about it, not because I supported him or his party, but because I thought it was fundamentally unfair to leave him out – the voters needed to see what he was like, after all! I can’t remember if it worked.
(They then approached me for a donation, and I had to explain why I’d signed; this was before GDPR, but I did wonder whether they should have used my details for that purpose. They did take the hint.)
*Either 2015 or 2016; I was contacted by Ross Greer, and I don’t think he was a candidate himself, so more likely the Westminster election.
