The stupidest year in history

Posted on December 23, 2018 by

We can think of no better illustrative metaphor for the brain-withering idiot festival that was 2018 than page 16 of today’s Sunday Mail, which in the space of a single inch of newsprint predicts both SNP gains at any new general election, and then SNP losses to the exact same Labour and Tory parties that the editorial on the left excoriates as incompetent, “deluded” and “moribund”.

We wish we could rationally hope 2019 will be any better.

ot slightly- the 2 people alleged to have been responsible for the drone attack in England are now released and are no longer suspects. Still the papers have pictures of them etc. Stops us dealing with BREXIT.

It will be quite ironic if at the end of all this it is Corbyn who comes out worst of all. He lost a no confidence motion by his own MPs in 2016 by 172-40 and clearly does not have support of the majority of his MPs.

A no confidence vote by MPs means nothing though and only a leadership challenge could get rid of him and it will be party members who decide that.

His stance on Brexit though appears to be the opposite of what the majority of members actually want and what they voted through at their conference. If he doesn’t change his tune very soon and start demanding what his party want then his days could be numbered and he will be got rid of.

I find that quite funny, he failed to raise a “no confidence” vote against the government and as a consequence loses the confidence and support of his own party members.

Ironic and lovely at the same time, he deserves what’s coming.

It’s incredible really, to think about Corbyn having amassed a genuine uprising of support down south has just ‘openly’ decimated that very support because he for the first and only time admitted what we have all known since it started, he’s a dyed in the wool genuine fraud, sat on the backbenches for decades playing citizen Smith and got forced into the leadership contest. Was always ‘soft’ anti EU, def voted ‘out’ and had no intentions of ever opposing what the Tories are doing, not just EU wise, but domestically him and his party have sat on their hands while the Tories have rolled back the centuries on social justice, social security and he supports renewal of Trident even though he’s an ancient member of the CND.

Beggars belief that people down south can’t see through him. What’s even worse is how anyone voted for Labour in Scotland on the back of his ‘faux elevation’ to status of the ‘great socialist’ saviour schtick. It’s never going to happen. Labour are dead in Scotland, any resuscitation is purely dependent upon the msm running their campaign for them on a ‘no snp’ ticket, certainly not on any ‘policy’ ticket.

And now Labour actually do help the Tories stay in power across our councils in Scotland, merging to keep the SNP out even when they have won the constituency outright in places.

For any ‘journalist’ to still be peddling the utterly verifiable yellow stained pish that the SNP are in any way ‘threatened’ by Labour in Scotland is to signify that we are not reading or watching ‘news’ anymore. We are reading a nobody’s fantasy story, we are watching nobodies in front of camera’s telling stories about their masters ‘beliefs’.

Liars, all of them, to themselves and to us all. The likes of the atl is merely another small example of a bunch of nobodies flying kites with the sure knowledge in ‘their’ own belief that the general public are a bunch of fucking idiots and will fall for these lies.

Fortunately for us here in Scotland and unfortunately for the likes of these rags…we are not a bunch of fucking idiots who unlike our poor neighbours fed on a diet of this yellow stained pish for decades have now gone full Kool aid and are so full of pish that they actually believed Corbyn was the messiah. And that’s the circle jerk that’s really in play between ‘rancid journalism’ and it’s target audience.

I mean what about the headline grabbing Rachael Reeves, a possible future leader of the Labour party no less, she shouted loudly “Labour will be tougher on welfare than the Tories” does that sound like a “socialist” policy to you?

Agreed Thpnr…it’s why I mentioned the sitting on their hands…they are not a ‘socialist’ party and never where, it just ‘looked’ like it…in comparison to…the Tories, back then. But as you say…look what happened with ‘new’ Labour…any vestigial remnants of their former ‘philosophy’ was wiped the moment Blair was made leader.

Like you I voted for them in ’97, in the belief that a ‘roll back’ of sorts would begin. Utterly scunnered within 3 months to realise they were Tory ‘lite’. It took many years for many people in Scotland to realise ‘what this meant’.

England too know this, but UKIP came along and willingly promoted by the BBC soaked up disaffected Labour voters…and so begun the road tae where we are now wi Brexit. Corbyn is a sop to those disaffected down south…but they will now realise what we in Scotland had realised a decade earlier, they will never return to their former principles.

We have the SNP and we have, many not having ever voted for them prior to the referendum, gradually gifted them our trust. What does England have?

If we had not had our referendum there is a very good chance that Scotland too would be in the same place as England.

The SNP fortunately were not ‘right’ leaning as ‘internally’ had shifted over the years to widen their appeal and take up the ‘centre’ so to speak.

If by a trick of fate they had not done so well in 2011 and were still ‘marginal’…we’d have the mini westiminster shenanigans mirrored in Holyrood and absolutely no prospects of a chance in hell of independence being our lifeboat on the back of Brexit.

“Welfare” is the cost of caring. It is the price society are willing to pay to make sure that not just the unemployed can feed, clothe and house themselves but it’s for pensioners and the disabled too. Pensions are by far the largest cost to welfare.

It’s not just the payment of benefits though is it? It’s the cost of our social services where the most vulnerable are helped where we can. All of this is under threat by the attacks on the “welfare state”. This is precisely why we see foodbanks in even the smallest towns, it’s why people are dying on the streets without a roof over their heads.

Really none of this is or was necessary, the UK can more than afford to look after all her people, after all it is US that actually pay for it all through our taxes. Tories though and it seems Labour want to reduce taxes for the richest and for corporations. They don’t even adequately enforce the powers they do have against big business.

Of course all the profits made by big business go to the owners of that business, again the richest the shareholders and the bond holders.

Only with Independence will a Scottish government be able to choose a different path, one that benefits all, even the wealthy as after all you really only need so much wealth and can’t eat more than two chickens a day.

And she did reply, ‘I shall not call ye dimwits, for it is the season of goodwill, but tis not Saint Jeremy who shall tax me, nay, not even if he enters the house of Number Ten,… for my tax rates are set by Queen Nicola, in whose kingdom I do abide, and unto her I do pay my full portion, —seeking neither to flee to Monaco nor to hide my gold in far flung lands, like St Jacob, Patron Saint of Filthy Hypocrites.’ ‘Speak not of hypocrites!’ cried the host, ‘for thou dost claim to care about the poor yet doth rail against their champion, St Jeremy!’

And she did answer, ‘How shall the poor fare under Brexit, which thy Saint hath always in his secret heart desired, yet he hath not admitted what was in his heart, lest fewer attend his next Sermon on the Glastonbury B Stage.’ And they did answer, ‘Saint Jeremy will achieve a miracle, and he shall bring forth a Jobs First Brexit and all the land shall rejoice.’ And she did answer, ‘bollocks.’ But she bethought her of the season of goodwill, and repenting of her ire she did speak further. ‘I have, for all my life, voted Labour, yet now I cannot.’ etc

We of course are always hampered by the Scottish cringe. How do we overcome it, it’s hard because it has been ingrained by the education system (Scots were effectively barbarians prior to the union), the BBC, we are either drunks, drug users or other forms of criminals. Scottish education will be disparaged, I remember someone commenting about Edinburgh University not what it used to be. Former press editors claiming we would become a third world country if independent.

But what we now need to drive home now, the Brexit shambles has been brought to you mostly by Oxford & Cambridge graduates, plus a large smattering of English public school attendees. Whereas few of the SNP top brass, if any, attended any of these so called elite institutions. Which of these groups has the most positive outlook for our country, the debating society group or the Scottish realists, I suspect Jacob Rees-Mogg was a star at the debating society.

Those at the heart of Better Together and NO campaigning like JKR make me sick, literally feeling like boking!

When they campaigned for NO they knew full well this meant no mandate Tory rule for Scotland more often than not. They also knew, if unbridled, the Tories have tendency to lurch to the right.

What has happened is what BTers knew was inevitable. They knew this would be the cost to Scotland of staying under London rule.

Ordinary NO voters are often open to conversion. Enough of them changing their minds will deliver us from this evil union. However, those who brought all this shite down upon us have no excuse, no redemption, no absolution.

I can’t believe we’re still in the game to be honest. 19/9/14 we were down & almost out, the Brits were in the ascendant; the Vow, faux love & Project Fear had won the day. But the Unionists just couldn’t do rapprochement; in with the boot, as per default. Cameron then demonstrated his fraternal love by announcing EVEL; so far, so bad.

Our first gift was the 2015 GE. Not the 56 seats that the SNP got, but Cameron’s unexpected majority of 5. The EU referendum was a manifesto promise that the, ahem, Right Honourable gentleman didn’t expect to have to honour. Project Fear’s hangover though; Middle England had been fed the horrifying prospect of Corbyn propped up by the SNP (as if). Brexit & Cameron’s exit gifts us May.

I was, until yesterday, concerned that the “Leader of Her Majesty’s loyal opposition” could still appeal to enough of the old school socialists & the youth to ruin everything. Corbyn has never had the support of his own parliamentary party, never mind the rest of the opposition. But Corbyn’s social media campaign was enough to deny May a majority, May then needs the DUP; gifts galore.

Cue all sorts of desperate attempts to retain power; more gifts. The gifts will keep coming until…
…the moment Indyref2 is called. At that point the Unionist cabal will have a target & a very convenient distraction. The gloves will be off then & it won’t be pretty; petty yes, pretty no. The wounded British Lion will use every dirty trick in the book, it will invent new dirty tricks & it will do things out of pure spite thereafter.

As things stand there’s still 4 possible outcomes of Brexit: no deal; bad deal; another referendum or abandon the process. The chances of either of the latter 2 are vanishingly small, but until they or either of the former options are absolutely ruled out there’s no point, absolutely none, in pursuing another referendum campaign. Let the Unionists tear their own arguments apart, they are doing our legwork for us. Let them waste their time, their energy & their resources; especially their resources. Once they’ve given us a target we strike, we strike hard & we strike true. If we go too soon we hand all the initiative back.

I guess not or be assured we would know all about it, apparently though they did find a damaged drone on the airport grounds somewhere today. Phew, thank goodness for that, some people might have thought they were imagining things otherwise.

What’s that to do with Corbyn?

Well you’ve heard the saying “turn a blind eye” and that’s what he’s doing. Pretending that Brexit isn’t really happening and hoping that if he just does nothing then everything will work out good for him and the Labour party.

Deluded, more than that it’s an idiotic stance to take and he becomes more exposed as each day passes. ordinary people like the letter writer in the Guardian now see him as the fraud he has always been.

The phrase “turn a blind eye” is attributed to Nelson who supposedly said “I see no ships” when holding the telescope to his blind eye after being ordered to retreat at the battle of Copenhagen. This has nothing whatsoever to do with drones or Corbyn but hey it’s late and nothing much being said here anyway, so just thought I’d throw that in for free 🙂

John Beattie radio Scotland interviews a business person on Green issues and how they are trying to weave that in to business, the lady says the Scottish government has been really helpful to business in Scotland and hopes they can find the money to do more, and all that sounds fine, But then John Beattie says “But nobody trust governments do they?”

One wonders if that’s John Beatties personal opinion or is it the BBCs opinion, either way whichever it is I don’t recall anytime ever the Scottish government making outright announcements to the general public that *nobody trusts the BBC do they?* and if they did there would be outrage unbound from the BBC

John Beattie is partly correct in his pronouncement though as it’s the UK government that has a very low trust level, however in Scotland it’s quite the opposite, there is a profession however that is held in lower esteem than politicians and that is *Journalists* which is held in no esteem whatsoever

Deafness to public opinion by the BBC has gone past the criminal now

For some reason I received the full transcript of the Queen’s Speech. Now, it’s actually 3 hours long because May has been adding bits since January and not bothering taking them off as things change. Yes, you can imagine! Also since Corbyn is 100% behind May, he’s been given a half hour all to himself (which could have been compressed into 1 minute but, be fair). I’m not going to reprint the whole thing as it would take 2019 pages of Wings, so I’ve summarised it.

    —————

My Subjects, and Taffies, Micks and Sweaty Socks,

We are pleased to be leaving those European chancers and saying goodbye to Johnny Foreigner. Brexit will be a total disaster for all of you which is why we’re bringing back the Tower of London to its original use, and re-opening all the Dungeons. Any subject or lesser colonial breed that says one word against it will be thrown in there with no trial. The Rule of Law is hereby repealed.

All my Royal Prerogative is vested solely in Theresa May and you will do what she says or else. In return she has promised me £2 billion to redecorate Buck Palace, and £1 billion for each of my other Palaces. The Nation will be so pleased, and all you, my serfs loyal knee-bending subjects.

In addition she has promised all the Royal Family and hangers-on £20 million each per year, this will only cost £254 billion a year. To pay for this the Tax Collectors will be round and you are all expected to co-operate as they remove orl your belongings. Fleets of container ships will be taking these overseas and selling them orf to pay for it all.

Meanwhile I’m sure you’ll be delighted that me and Phil have managed to get a cheap holiday in the Canary Islands, all of t hem, all the accomdation as we’re taking all the family except that Meghan Markle who’s being deported, we will be taking the Royal Navy and all trasport aircraft, as well as a few royal flights of Typhoons and all available F35-B to keep off the dreaded Spaniards. Frankly, the Russians would be stark staring bonkers to invade the UK when we’ve left – it’s all gorn, long gorn.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New poverty-stricken New Year

I agree completely. In EURef, Leave learnt it could use illegal tactics online and get away with it. The far right, awash with dark money, will try the same for IndyRef2.

However, people don’t like to find out underhand tactics are being deployed. The time to out the perpetrators is well before the vote, not a year after they have won deceitfully!

It should definitely be part of the YES planning to have savvy people on the look out for dodginess and get it into the public domain asap. If voters believe there is (what amounts to) cheating being used, it could backfire bigtime!

How patronising of her, kind of saying “do as I say (read?), not as I do”. This feels like a kick in the teeth after she contributed to fuel division by giving royal assent to that disgusting power grab bill, knowing that by doing so she would delegitimise our perfectly legitimate Continuity bill, passed in the Democratically Parliament of Scotland.

So one has to wonder, unite for what? So England takes control of Scotland’s main assets without its consent and against its will and continues sucking most of our revenues? Is that what the English establishment this lady belongs to understands by “unity”? Submission?

Looking forward to a Wings get together in February, they always raise the spirits. In more ways than one 😉

    Hi Peeps.

Merry Christmas to Rev Stu, all Wingers and Proud Lurkers!

A wee song for any reticent NO voters from 2014 reading these pages, as we head into 2019.

” … Hands up all you who were never anybodies “Subject”!!!”

On that subject, Sharny, (pun intended), the legal truth is that under independent Scots law the people are legally sovereign and Her Majesty, Queen of Scots, Elizabeth Regina is legally the person the legally sovereign people of Scotland have chosen to be the protector of their sovereignty.

That makes the Queen of Scots the people’s subject. Just as it makes those the people of Scotland vote into government, (at any level of government), the people’s subjects.

Yet, with the exception of the SNP, both the royals and the elected to office people act as if the people of Scotland are their subjects.

” … Thanks but no, still doesn’t play on mine. Ah well.”

Hi! Yesindyref2, in most browsers you need to open the settings and turn the app on to play YouTube clips. Sometimes you need to look in a sub-menu in the settings.

Another option is to install the VLC Media Player, which, BTW, also lets you be able to download and save all sorts of media clips to replay later.

” … Just in case they peruse these blogs, when Scotland is independent I will still be British in the same way I will still be European.”

Careful there, fjngw, I commented along those lines some years ago and it gets posted, as if it were some kind of grievous sin, by Rock at intervals ever since.

Seems it messes with what passes as his/her’s its brains too.

In any case neither the Kingdom of England nor the United Kingdom are Britain both are only the united Kingdom bit of retain – but that will change in the near future anyway.
