Lovebombing on the cheap
The Sun’s editions on both sides of the border today go in heavy with the results of a YouGov poll showing a dramatic turnaround in the percentage of English (and Welsh) people who want Scotland to leave the UK.
Or at least, SOME of the results.
You can read the text of the Scottish Sun article here, and the English one here. But there’s one aspect of the poll, visible on the paper’s toe-curling graphic above, which for some inexplicable reason doesn’t make it into the Scottish version of the story.
Because while a majority of those south of the border now want Scotland to stay, just 13% of them are prepared to pay the price of the higher per-head public spending Scotland gets. (Which we all know is more than paid for by oil and gas revenues, a fact confirmed in bald and unambiguous language by the Financial Times yesterday.)
In other words, if the Barnett Formula for government funding is to continue, the poll’s findings reverse in quite spectacular fashion. The people of England and Wales are more than happy to have Scotland in the UK so they can keep taking the oil money, but if Scots want to keep getting 70% of it back in spending then by a margin of almost five to one our brothers and sisters in the United Kingdom family reckon we can sod off, and try not to let the door hit us on the arse on the way out.
That current Barnett funding won’t survive much past the 2015 election is now beyond even a tiny shred of rational doubt. The people of the rest of the UK are absolutely clear about it, the media and commentators back them, senior politicians of every party (including David Cameron) have said it, and Scottish Labour MPs know it.
So when those same Scottish Labour MPs tell you to vote No, be aware that they know full well exactly what it is they’re telling you to vote for – a future where Scotland is robbed of billions of pounds of its own money, over and above the subsidy we’ve already been sending to Westminster for the last 30 years.
We’re sure the penny will drop with the Scottish media any day now.

We in Scotland aren’t given an accurate picture by the media, so is it any wonder that people in rUK are similarly or worse misled? I don’t think anyone should be surprised by these findings. People in rUK genuinely believe they have been extremely generous to people in Scotland. Sadly, a large number here believe the saame tripe.

O/t. Listening to Janice Forsythe show on radio Scotland. It’s a very strange show today talking about how artists feel about the referendum vote . There is a list of 100 who will vote yes which they discussed and that was good. However ther was some guy from the Herald who said something strange about the fact people seemed to think BBC Scotland was doing ok with it’s take on the referendum!!! WHAT!

You just know that the numpties over at Project Fear HQ declared the poll “great news” without even looking at it. Much as the buffoons denounced the Scottish Government’s White Paper before they could possibly have had an opportunity to read and digest its contents. But they go on to descend into the most appallingly puerile crap.

A No vote followed by the removal of the Barnett Formula won’t, unfortunately, lead to the widespread realisation that Scotland’s been duped – more likely it will be used to ‘confirm’ that wide-scale false belief (perpetuated by the Labour party) that Scotland has been subsidised and is too poor to go it alone.
After a No vote, with Barnett gone and without the powers to make changes to Scotland’s economy that will be needed to prepare for the future, those claiming now that it’s too risky will then be able to say they were right as Scotland declines.
The coming months are could well be the only chance to get enough people to believe that Scotland isn’t subsidised, then prove it with independence;

This whole idea about England ‘lovebombing’ Scotland is a complete copy of the tactics used by the Canadian Government, to try to prevent Quebec independence. The vote was lost by less than 1%, although, Quebec now has autonomy that almost equates to what we call devo max, anyway. However, that was then, in 1995, when the internet was in its infancy, and state media ruled.
Now here, in 2014, Better together and their English Tory funders, want to use ‘lovebombing’ like they did in Canada, but they have not clicked yet, that this is NOT 1995, and people can now access facts on the internet, even if the state broadcaster (BBC) tells lies.
The other and i think often overlooked point is this, although London unionists tell each other Scottish independence is about being anti English, we all know it is in fact about being anti-Westminster rule. You see, English people can tell me they love Scotland as much as they want, but it doesn’t matter. It’s Westminster rule which I despise, not the English people or England.
So, my message to better together is go ahead, get lots of nice English people to come up and tell us they love us. It’ll make us feel all warm and fuzzy, but won’t make the blindest bit of difference, as the independence vote is about ending Westminster rule, not hating the English.
As usual, better together have not given due thought to any of this, they have heard of Quebec, and thought “that’s what we’ll do”, but like I said at the beginning, that was 1995, this is 2014. It truly is a wholly different world.

Is it worth continuing to give Scotland a higher share of public spending to keep it part of the UK? No – 60%.
Bang goes Labour’s ‘ideas’/’claims’ of ‘pulling and sharing resources’; this is what comes of siding with the Tories and helping perpetuate the myth that people are getting something they don’t deserve or seem to need – in this case risking animosity in England and lack of self belief in Scotland in order to try to stop the SNP and independence.
Another reason to vote for independence: it’ll be easier to fit Shetland on maps, since we won’t have that big dingleberry hanging out the bottom of Scotland.
So, the message is now clear, vote NO and the Scottish budget will be cut by 28% almost overnight.

what you are seeing is two years worth of hatchet work on Scotland’s sense of itself and its contribution to the Union.
I always felt that there would be a price to paid for constantly talking of dependency. That there would be consequences of pushing the idea that the union was some sort benefit, that Scotland was simply a recipient of.
The corrosive effects of all that negativity was going to lead to something bad happening to the Union. What is the point of talking about commonalities of identity, when you had to scare someone into accepting it. Whatever made them think they could push this line, and not have it effect how others in the UK saw us?
The only thing the no camp has succeeded in doing, is to convince English voters, that Scotland & its people are nothing more than skivers. Its actually tearing down the union around their heads, and they not the wit to see it. Even if they win, the union loses. All that bile and all that division is not going to wash away.
There is none so blind as those that will not see.

Does anyone have thoughts on the value of running an online petition to asking to replace all BBC Scotland News TV & Radio with an alternative source. I’m guessing it would need to be to WM, perhaps using 38 Degrees, since Broadcasting is yet another “reserved matter”.
It can certainly be demonstrated from:
– the BBC Trust judgement;
– WSU bias report;
– the bullying response and failure to communicate the report;
– and the blatant story manipulation this week;
that this BBC Department is unable to fulfil its charter obligations to the people of Scotland.

As others have said there is no Scottish media. There is media in Scotland. However, it views Scotland through the eyes of the British establishment. They are fully on board with the deception of saying a No vote is for more powers. BBC Scotland is essentially a post colonist service, which supports the Westminster side, and does no even attempt to conceal it. There is a reason why broadcasting was not devolved in 1999. We are seeing why every day.
BP operate in some dodgy places in the world whether there is uncertainty, some uncertainty, big uncertainties, quite big uncertainties, very big uncertainties involved.

Firstly – George Galloway does talk nonsense yet he has the gift to make it somehow seem rationale. I think it make sense if you live in your own little world and that all the UK will one day adopt his vision of socialism at the same time.
He cannot accept that the majority of the English have a different value set (which is their right). However I don’t want it imposed on my country.
As for the article – This is Westminsters fault following years of propaganda against the Scots that they were subsidised by England. The problem being they managed to convince the English that this was the case.
How will Scotland look 5 years after a NO vote – It will have power devolved from Holyrood to Councils in order to weaken the parliament. It will have an “on par” per head settlement which will mean a lot less money. The extra powers devolved will be petty and token ( As Ken Macintosh put it “some power over railways or such like BUT not tax raising powers”

So, here’s a hypothetical question – we know due to recent analysis that on the main Scottish channels there’s roughly a 3:2 bias against Yes. What do you think the bias is south of the border, or in Wales or Northern Ireland? Any chance it’ll be as ‘good’ as 3:2 for Yes? They’re even more heavily brainwashed than us.
