After this week’s STV and BBC debates, in which the Scottish Labour branch-office manager’s combative performances were favourably received by the Scottish media, Wings exclusively interviews armed-forces enthusiast Jim Murphy for a response to the latest numbers from YouGov, pausing first for the delivery of some refreshments.

Check out the YouGov link…….Never mind the SNP…….It is absolutely staggering to see Scottish labour only 6 points ahead of the Scottish Conservatives with the gap closing.
That means a 3% swing would see the Tories and labour neck and neck IN SCOTLAND. ????????????

Jim speaks in a quiet voice and scares the bejesus out of folk with his creepiness,punctuated with outbursts of aggressive shouting at folk.In another video by Bonnie Prince Bob we see a near to tears Kezia Dugdale standing beside Mr Murphy.Very concerning.
Good to see that people are seeing through his act.

I suppose the difficulties to view encountered by some here are the absent characteristics of “inspired leadership” and “tactical ability”, quoted by Blackadder in the above clip, demonstrated by shouty branch operatives and their media/black arts ‘supporters’.

The press appear to be having a day off from their SNP Bad campaign. I’m not sure if it is the lull before the storm or it’s dawned on them that this constant attack isn’t working. I’ll err on the side of caution and go for the first option.
O/T – butt BBC news doing a few reports from Aberdeen today. Just now they had two voters on linked to the oil industry – one was Sandra McDonald – former labour councillor and married to Lewis McDonald MSP. Obviously we have no objection about that but why doesn’t the BBC enlighten viewers to this fact? A previous posting commented on an ex Labour councillor on tv the debate – who I know for a fact ripped up her labour party card, voted Yes and joined the Greens – so I guess anything is possible when it comes to any labour party member – even those married to MSPs.
I must admit to a bit of a strop post indyref with a couple of No voters – but now I just look on them as tomorrow’s Yessers and carry on doorknocking. The MSM and unioinists keep shooting themselves in the foot – with Frenchgate being a prime example. I’ve yet to meet a unionist yet who believed that guff. So I quietly say to myself “A few more votes for the SNP” and smile. Last night on Sky some eejit referred to Scotland as a beautiful but quaint little country – aha – more converts.
But thanks again Wings – the prompt analysis of all the keech out there is the best tool possible in combatting the unioinsts crap.

I think the development of methodologies which enable the monetisation of intangibles (environmental and social assets e.g. air quality/quality of life), is the most likely approach capable of ‘taming’ capitalism. However, this would raise many ethical issues, in itself.
One concern I have, is that the global ‘green movement’ has been inundated by former Communist apparatchiks, since the collapse of the Soviet block. IMHO, they are not ‘green’, merely ideologically opposed to capitalism. I see this as a problem which will hinder any real progressiveness, as Communists are far from progressive.
Sorry, I don’t have any answers.
Whilst taking nothing for granted it has to be said, I fondly recall the election evening when blue tory Portillo lost his seat. Early on, before result were comfirmed, Paxman said to Portillo, ‘are you ready to drink hemlock yet’?
Much as I don’t really like Paxman, I do regard it as one of his finest moments.

As someone has already pointed out, there’s a lot of soft marginal seats out there that yuogov are saying are softening as we speak.
So it is imperative that we work even harder for these votes and get out their to counter the lies the unionists, especially the red tories, will put out.
It’s going to get dirtier as election day gets closer.

Many constituencies are neck-and-neck and vulnerable to Labour/MSM/BBC manipulation, so SNP supporters need to work very hard for every single vote.
Because of the way FPTP works, I wouldn’t predict 50+ or even 40+ SNP MPs (more than happy to be proved wrong, of course! :-D). But remember, in the last election, SNP got 6 MPs. Their best ever result is 11. I’m confident in predicting a best-ever result for the SNP! 😀

has taught us that the words ‘decent’ and ‘Labour’
just don’t go together;

D’you know, I can’t help but wonder each time I see figures like this if those who voted NO during the Indyref and believed in Murphy when having those ‘rants’ are now feeling cheated?
To get a -18 rating as to him doing a good job or not is a real damning figure not just the fact that 49% are now voting SNP which sees him and his party loose further ground.
Most of the NO voting public must be wondering why at all they made him leader!!!

Totally agree. We don’t want to count our our chickens before they’ve hatched. Personally I can’t see the snp getting 40+ seats, as much as I would like them to. For me the magic number is 30 MPs which would be the clear majority of seats in scotland. Any more than that would be a bonus.
It’s little wonder that “The Murph” came out tops with the press regarding these debates, because he speaks thier shouting, bullying, misinformation language.
So imagine thier surprise, if not thier utter disbelief, when they find out that the support for the S.N.P. has increased!, you see dear press guys, shouting down people when they are trying to make a point, or shouting down people when they cannot answer, as in you papers, don’t actually impress us, the voting public.
But just like J Murphy, I doubt you’ll never learn, ’cause you just can’t help it eh?!!.

I agree. It’s the age old perception of England and Britain being one and the same and it’s usually people from down south who have this perception. Britain is really England with the celtic nations added on as an afterthought.
The flag of the Royal Navy should really be the flag of the UK as it is an England flag with a union flag tucked away in the corner to represent Scotland & N. Ireland. Poor Wales of course isn’t even represented.

I noticed Gordoz’s post at 2.23pm, regarding Ed Miliband’s threat to block any future SCottish referendum, if he is PM.
I can well understand, if Scotland does return to the Labour fold and send a solid bloc of Slabbers to WEstminster in May, he will feel he HAS to keep Scotland inside the UK, otherwise there will be a near-permanent Tory government in Westminster.
But, this will back-fire on him if he needs SNP support, even on a case-by-case issue, to keep the Tories out.
The days of two-party politics in Westminster are over, it’s just, the two main parties haven’t noticed this yet, or, if they had, they are determined to ignore it for as long as they can.

Well, Shouty, tell me something–WHO EXACTLY was it that gave us this “black hole”? That’s right, Shouty–it was Westminster. And if we do not get DevoMax (aka FFA) as YOU and YOUR lot promised then Westminster will have that increasing to Holmberg 15A proportions. (Holmberg 15A is the biggest black hole known).
Imagine for a moment, Shouty, that you allow your next door neighbour to run your household affairs and they run you up a massive debt and are spending more than you earn. Will you allow them to continue doing that or will you tell them to take a long walk off a short pier and take control of the financial reins yourself?
The WHOLE POINT of FFA is not just about scotland building a better economy but of ensuring Westminster is halted in its ongoing TRASHING of our economy which is precsiely what will happen if we do not take control of our own financial matters.

No point in us moaning about it. The BBC will do what the BBC do. Asking the BBC to play fair is like expecting a bear not to shit in the woods. What we have to do is hit the streets, visit the old folks homes, speak to pensioners. One to one conversations. Reassure them. It’s the only way we are going to win over this particular demographic.

I think that Patrick Harvie is one of the outstanding politicians in Scotland ATM. I don’t know much about the “global green movement” or its alleged communist appratchiks.
In Finland, the Green movement started as a nature conservation thing and won their first 2 MPs (in a 200-member parliament) in 1983. Since then they’ve evolved to a real party with policies on all areas.
Their emergence has forced other parties to become at least superficially more “green”. The main lefty party is now actually quite green as well. Our UKIP-style party derides the lefty-greenies…
There are still “beardy weirdies” in the party, but politically they’re pro-EU, centre, left-leaning (which would be “far left” to the UK MSM). They advocate a fullscale reform of our complex welfare system and a basic income but they’re also quite pro-small business and critical of “socialism”.
I don’t agree with all their policies but vote for them because they represent a voice (environment, tolerance etc.) that needs to be heard in parliament and government.
One of my favourite politicians ever is “the little green man” as he was called, Osmo Soininvaara, who used to be the leader of the Greens in Finland. The little hair he had left flying in all directions a la Prof Curtice, facts at his fingertips, an academic and a statistician by profession, enthusiastic cyclist – he cycled to work even when a government minister, AND didn’t have a limo trailing behind him with his briefcase, like some UK photo-op “cyclist” ministers.
Our GE is on 19 April, advance voting is already underway in schools, libraries, post offices, shopping malls and even “polling buses” all over the country – no postal votes, you have to do it in person and present ID.
Today I found 9 election leaflets/flyers/cards/”newspapers” from 4 different parties (not Greens) in my letterbox – all straight into the paper recycling bin. It’s been like that for the past week or so.
The Greens are the only ones who’ve even raised the issue of TTIP so get my vote. I’ve had email exchanges with some local candidates (in our PR system each party has a number of candidates in a geographically large multi-member constituency and you vote for the actual candidate but the votes go toward the party list, which is ranked according to votes) and will probably cast my vote tomorrow.

yup, you are missing something … the Smith cobblers is only a series of recommendations. It is highly unlikely that any of them will squeeze through the next parliament UNLESS the SNP holds sway.

I also have green leanings, but am just not happy with the predominantly Fabian (Liberal Democrat) definition of sustainability, which I see as a ‘rearguard’ in defense of the Establishment.
My concern re. Communist infiltration, is the sham support this give to deep-green philosophy, which I think will ultimately undermine the potential for the ‘green movement’ to achieve widespread acceptance. IMHO, ‘anti-capitalism’ does not equate to ‘green’.
I do not support a carbon tax, which I see as unavoidable regressive.

Re this alleged £7.6Billion Deficit here are a couple of things to ponder and comment on:-
In the last few years nearly evry household in Scotland will have purchased a nice shiny Flat Screen TV.
As far as I am aware none of said TVs will have been made in The UK or for that matter in The EU.
Every single one will have come out of a container at Felixtowe or Southampton and the Import Duty will have been charged at that point and deposited straight to HM Treasury but will have formed part of the price paid by the purchaser in Scotland. Needless to say not a penny of that will have figured in the tax take from Scotland.
Similarly said Scottish purchaser will have paid 20% VAT as part of the price but the only VAT credited to Scotland will be 20% of the mark up between what the retailer paid for the TV and the ultimate selling price.
Even that small amount may not be credited as Tax Paid in Scotland if the retailer is UK headquartered and doesn’t make separate VAT returns for its Scottish sales.
Another whopper although it is more historical is Council House Sales.
Ever since Thatcher introduced Right to Buy in the 80s every penny from said sales has gone straight to HM Treasury. If ever there was an Asset Stripping Oeration from Scotland that must be the champion given that the majority of Scots lived in rented LA properties prior to Right to Buy.
Tens of thousands of Council Houses have been sold and the amount stolen from Scotland over the years must be huge – has anybody ever established how much?
