Wings Over Scotland

All hail the new Britain

Posted on July 24, 2019 by

Let the bells ring out and rejoice.

Still, at least the Record hasn’t been so completely lacking in self-awareness as to point a finger at others in Scotland and say something like “far too many people who should know better are complicit in the tragedy”.

Oh. But it’s fair enough, because after all, there’s never been a chance for Scotland to guarantee that it could never be governed by idiot Tories it didn’t vote for, has there? We’re sure if there ever was, the Daily Record – or “SCOTLAND’S CHAMPION”, as it used to style itself – would throw its weight unequivocally behind it.

…don’t hold your breath waiting for the DR. In the unlikely event they ever did imply support for Scottish Independence I would remain suspicious that they did so as a “false friend” waiting for the chance at a critical moment to betray us.

The Scottish branches of the newspaper industry are owned and controlled by people outside our country. The best option is to let them wither and die. Perhaps post Independence journalism instead of propaganda will return to Scotland.

Wulls

Har de Har…….
it’s hilarious the way they are all tubthumping at Boris “Uniting the country”
They seem to be forgetting Scotland is as united now as we have ever been.
We didn’t vote for Thatcher, Major, Cameron , May, not Boris fuckin Johnstone, and certainly not Brexit.
This with support for indy at record levels.
Now or never.

John Lowe

WTF are they complaining about they got exactly what they wanted. New Britain ????????

Abulhaq

Scotland requires ‘cutting edge’ leadership to chop through centuries of Unionist accretion and pull us, however might protest, kick and scream, out of this asylum for the sociopolitically insane.
Put very simply this situation cannot be allowed to continue. Cut, cut….

Abulhaq

…however many might protest etc..

Invoking Godwin’s Law, but hardly ‘reductio ad Hitlerum’, (Johnson Classics scholar that he is, knows what I mean), I quote the Lutheran Man Of God who in Germany in the 30’s suddenly realised by degrees that his country had been taken over by mad men and women.
Not seen or heard the Norn Ireland brogue of David Clegg on Brewer’s Sunday droop for a while. Just sayin’.

“First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”

German Lutheran pastor Martin Niemöller who ended up in a concentration camp after years of tacitly witnessing the Nazi purge of Germany.

When will our Fourth Estate speak out?
WE refuse to join England and Wales in Hell in October.
The Holyrood Government has a mandate.
Call the Referendum NOW.

The only way out of this mess will be through some measure of unrest and conflict. This is true for the whole of the UK.

The ‘ordinary dude’ no longer has a voice or a power to resist the current political direction. It used to be National Strikes when things got really bad.

Westminster and the Tories have a stranglehold over the UK and the useless Labour Party.

Scotland is thistle in their sides.
Northern Ireland may be sidelined by a border in the North Channel and the Irish Sea

Life is going to get very interesting.

Abulhaq

Final thought,
Scottish independence is a stand alone concept, it must not become a temporary bolt hole for remainers and anti-Johnsonites. On this issue there must be seen to be ‘true conversion’.
Signs in the press are suggestive. We must be watchful for chancers and opportunists and their subversive tactics.

Mac

The Daily Record need to write a parallel column decrying Corbyn’s Labour and the death of Scottish Labour (Office) . Then they would be describing the full chaos.

Hint: It’s not just about the Tories!!

galamcennalath

Scotland will need a Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The record needs set straight and the myths, fakery, propaganda, and cover-ups exposed. There needs to be formal acceptance of what was done, why, and by whom. From the emergence of the SNP, diiscovery of oil, and calls for devolution and independence there are been industrial scale anti Scottish manoeuvring and undermining of democracy.

Everyone needs to know the real story. Many folks are still unaware of what went on and still is. When they do come to accept the reality, they will the understand why independence is necessary. Only then can we move on and build the country we want. We need to dust the chips off our shoulders.

History books of the future need to tell the true story of Scotland, 1970 – 2020.

ScottieDog

Does the notiorious microeconomist KH still write for that paper?

Artyhetty

‘Britain’ can go jump off the nearest cliff, oh wait…Brexit.

‘New Scotland’ is a town in NewYork.

‘New Scotland’ if referring to the country of Scotland, will be an independent country, not one where the neighbours keep the front and back door keys so they can take all the booty for themselves for hundreds and hundreds of years.

ScottieDog

@Mac
“The only way out of this mess will be through some measure of unrest and conflict. This is true for the whole of the UK.”
I too feel this is becoming more and more likely.

Effijy

Pritti Patel, Boris supporter, fascist and likely cabinet minister
Is stating that Boris will handle Brexit, add more police to the beat
and improve the NHS and Education???

Now wasn’t it the Tory Party that both were ministers in that made
Brexit the embarrassing shambles that it is that cut Education budgets
and didn’t Boris already promise the NHS £350 million per week.

In summary, you cut budgets for these services year after year, you blatantly
Lie about future NHS funding on the side of a bus and now you propose or lie
About undoing what you have been doing repeatedly for years and have the Gaul
to suggest the NHS will get funding increase?

The man is a complete Jeremy Hunt!

So who should we have lead YES2.?
I mean better together should be a laughing stock now. Surely now is the time?

New Britain? Oh dear. Sorry. Zzzzz’n already.

Not something I advocate – more a prediction. the last 40 years of economic terrorism by governments have lead us to this point. The whole mess in Syria started with a drought and shortage of food and water.

Ken500

Unbelievable hypocrites and chancer. Johnstone the criminal now in place. What a catastrophe is now in place. A total farce of impossible incompetence but sone good might come. Independence.

Torquil was on Alba News speaking in Gaelic. The Daily Record Westminster correspondent. How he was labelled. A toady, hypocrite reporter. He was speaking with false, forked tongue. A disgrace to the island people’s. Hardworking and honest being let down by the MSM.

How much bette is not listening to the ‘news’. It actually feels better. No wonder everyone is not listening or watching any more. It is a sight for sore eyes. Aye Mr Peffers suffering getting sorted. Time for people to sort out Scotland. Given the chance. Support for Indy2 rising. Westminster union is now just now a total world embarrassment, The Tories will soon be gone. The end is nigh. Johnston cannot last until October.

The UK Gov Accounts are easily accessed. Some interesting info. Too much to discuss but easily accessed. Raising more and spending less than 10 years ago. Not enough on essential services. Austerity cuts which cost more, people end up dying. The economy in a mess.

Pension/ benefits take up 25%. Half goes on pension provision. The administration costs almost as much. Paying wages to administrate. If pensions were raised to a higher level. To cover more. Admin costs would be covered and decline. Pensions would be more realistic and costs would decline. More people could be better occupied. Without illegal wars, fraud tax evasion (£30Billion) etc. Wages in general could be higher. Just by increasing UK pension. Raised and paid in Scotland by current taxation. Brexit to allow tax evasion out of the EU. A total fakes economy or development.

There is £7Billion a year spent decommissioning nuclear. A large fund. Yet they are spending £Billions building more (Hinkley Point) and funding Trident. A total waste of money that could be better spent. The debt has gone up £30Billion.

£50Billion borrowed in the rest of the UK. Scotland has to make loan repayments on monies not borrowed or spent in Scotland. Westminster unionist chose the budget and mismanagement. Until people in Scotland vote Yes. Getting stronger. Scotland could do better,

The EU contribution. £12Billion, £4Billion comes back in Depra distribution. Scotland gets ripped off. £160Million+ CAP. The rest comes back in other ways. £Billions in jobs and easier trade. Grants and shared Defence costs, Much more than £8Billion. A small contribution. Including foreign students in the migration figures totally is inaccurate. They fully contribute to cost and then go home with economy links.

Johnston, Hunt and many Tories are migrant families. They did extremely well out of migration. Gaining £Millions from privilege. Johnston gained £Millions from migration and public monies. Born in New York. Moved many times. EU privilege. Lying hypocritical Sycophants. The Tory Royals are tax evading migrants supported by the tax evading establishment at Westminster.

The electorate watching the drama unfold like bit players. A horror story. The Tories will soon be gone. A GE they can lose. The only outcome. People voting Tory in Scotland helped this charade to be staged, Some people never learn. Never trust a Tory. Or Libdem or Labour. Impossible.

Thank goodness for Wings. Helping keeping folk grounded. When all around the UK is a total shambles.

Murray Foote came out for Independence. No wonder. .

I heard Simon Pia on shortbread this morning with nothing good to say about Boris and telling Scotland that about half of Scottish labour voters will now vote YES.

Then Morag frae Dundee right after him giving it laldy on Boris and then a man telling us all about Scotland’s wealth and how the Unionists need to hold on to our assets.

This would never be heard on live radio round about 2014.

Cheered me up after all the lightning and thunder last night in Fife.

galamcennalath

All that lightning. Wonder what could possibly have pissed off the gods?

Ken Clark

Benny Hill? Blackadder’s General Melchett more like, with a sprinkling of The Fast Show’s Rowley Birkin QC.

Perhaps I’m being unfair. Can you imagine Boris saying, “If nothing else works, a total pigheaded unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us though.”

Or, “I was vewy, vewy dwunk.”

Since acronyms are a current topic, PM is also an acronym for postmortem. The union is dead. We’ll let London rake over the remains while Scotland enjoys a rebirth.

@ Scottie Dog.

‘ not something I advocate ‘, none the less a scarey possibility. Not that I think such unrest would initially come from the Yes movement, more likely from sources well versed in causing unrest and trouble.
Better if we were out gathering signatures on petition ordering the Scottish Parliament to repeal the Acts of Union. An education for Scotland’s people on what real sovereignty is, a clear message to Westminster and the rest of the world.

Al Dossary

@ Call me Dave – Mr Touchy, Feely snorty snorty may well be the next SoS for Scotland. Hes been so far up Boris’s arse for the last 6 months that all you could see were his big toes wiggling.

But then again, maybe Fluffy will just hold on. After all it doesn’t really matter who the house Jock is, just so long as they do what they are told.

Muscleguy

I also expect Yellow Tory Swinson to whip her tiny caucus into supporting the Tory govt in a confidence motion.

She has subverted the colour palette, usually yellow and blue makes green, but now it makes purple.

Ken500

Thatcher times were so violent. Unemployment and conflict. She has to go because of EU matters. Did not want closer ties with Europe. Deja Vu. It was only closer EU ties that improved the economy. Made people better off. A 500million pop trade market. Good social Laws and benefits. £8Billion for jobs and benefits.

Free movement, trade, education and jobs brings in more than £8Billion. Shared Defence costs and grants. A block against restrictive practices of other large countries. Dominating the world economy. The US, China, India etc. The UK still can trade with the rest of the world and does.

UK/US (France) illegal wars caused mass migration into Europe. The EU countries have to pick up the tab. Much more than £8Billion. The UK pro rata gets a rebate and pays less by comparison. It costs Scotland nothing and brings benefits.

Terry Callachan

LBC radio had a journalist from Northern Ireland on this morning giving his view of the feeling people in Northern Ireland have about Boris Johnson becoming PM .
Eammon Mallie.

I nearly chocked on my cornflakes when he said
You know most young men are often boisterous unreliable and a bit foolish but then they get married and suddenly everything changes, they become sensible reliable upstanding members of the community looking after children and doing good things, I think we will see the same thing happen with Boris Johnson once he takes up his new job as PM a job he has trained for all of his life.

I thought to myself then shouted at the radio , but Boris Johnson is already married and has five children if this dramatic change was going to happen to Boris it would have happened a long time ago.
Eammon Mallie then said no way will the DUP accept a border down the middle of the Irish Sea
That is going to be real trouble because Boris needs the DUP votes to survive as PM

The radio presenter then went on to discuss how soon Boris,s girlfriend can move into number 10 !
They had a phone in about it !

The presenter referred to the girlfriend as “ the first girlfriend “ as in “ the First Lady “

Can you believe it ?
Also I’ve just noticed that google has auto turned the f in first and l in lady to capitals ,

Then they played a recording of Donald Trump praising Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage
in which Donald Trump said that he Donald trump is known as “Britain Trump” in the UK ,

What the hell , I’ve never ever ever heard anyone call Donald trump “Britain Trump”

They’ve all gone bonkers

Never forget – The Daily Record and Sunday Mail are owned by Reach PLC, a company with headquarters in Canary Wharf, right in the heart of the City of London.

The Record and Mail are two of the national newspapers owned by Reach, and, as their Scottish Division, their job is to keep the Sweaties sweet, and ensure they hold fast to the idea of Greater England aka Great Britain/the UK.

The Record and Mail never have been and never will be: “Scotland’s Champions”. All the big decisions are made in Canary Wharf and when London says: “Jump,” the suits in Glasgow don’t even ask: “how high?”

Muscleguy @ 11:01am:

A friend of mine who lives down south has speculated that Swinson’s main aim will be Coalition 2.

If the Tories are actually amenable to any such thing, it could only be because they wish to use the Lib Dems as an excuse to soften or bin Brexit and not get flak for it from Brexiteers (like they wanted a coalition in 2015 to make them take the blame for no EU Ref following).

The Lib Dems likely imagine they’d be lauded then as the party that saved us from Brexit but there would surely be some other considerations.

If they could only make Brexit a bit “softer”, would they be seen as sellouts by their new Remain supporters?

While (depending on what the lead Tories are really trying to do) a coalition could be acceptable to the Tories, I don’t see how or why they would go any further than softening Brexit a bit because potentially allows the Lib Dems electoral reward while ensuring the Tories themselves are punished.

You’d also need to wonder what Tory policies they’d need to swallow to get anything on Brexit also. The Lib Dems would be pretty stupid to allow the Tories to inflict ever more draconian policies domestically in return for softening anything. If the effect is the same (more hardship for many), any thanks they got for “softening Brexit” would quickly be forgotten.

That doesn’t mean they won’t do any of it and it could well start, as you suggest, with them backing the Tories in any confidence motion.

Maria F

Why do I think articles like that in the Daily Record are just another exercise in deception?

The labour party is in its death throes in Scotland due to the inconsistency in the message they are attempting to peddle at both sides of the border, so the criticism against the tories by this newspaper is not going to bring more labour voters among the readership of that rag nor SNP voters because the Daily Record would pump enough anti SNP propaganda to stop that happening.

So who benefits from the Daily Mail trashing the tories? the Green party? hardly. The LibDems? Can they even be resurrected in Scotland after somebody like Swinson spouting inaccurate nonsense 24/7 and making a fool of herself in the front pages?

I think who will benefit is the brexit party, which are at the end of the day, tories.

We are heading for a GE where half if not more of the tory party will waltz in the HoC under the flag of the brexit party to finally get around the problem that they did not have a sound majority to inflict the economic, constitutional, diplomatic and political suicide that is brexit. The tories under a brexit party flag can afford being bold, negligent, crass, irresponsible because in the minds of the voters it will not be the tories who did the dirty deed, but the “brexit party”.

The brexit party construct may be the only chance the tories have in Scotland to hit the SNP by taking away from it the vote of the 30% pro brexit voters and finally get their representation in Westminster below 50%. I think this is all what it is about: getting Scotland’s consent for brexit by the back door. I am convinced that the UK is paralysed with regards to brexit because Scotland has not given consent yet and therefore dragging it out of the EU will result in the UK break up.

I happen to think the UKIP project was just a test that did not succeed in Scotland because it did not support Scotland’s independence. The tories have learnt this so the brexit party project has now evolved with Farage claiming that “brexit is more important that the break up of the UK”: they are clearly targeting the 30% supporting brexit within the SNP. The brexit party is the tory trojan horse in Scotland against the SNP.

Now they just have to field candidates in the right places this time and transform the votes into MP seats. It is hard to believe that the strategists of UKIP were so unbelievably inept that managed to get over 4,000,000 votes in 2015 and not a single seat, not even the one of the “leader”. I doubt this will happen this time.

I discovered yesterday that the “Brexit Party” does not have real members, which could, in my view, be a clue that this “party” does not intend to stay around for long enough for any membership to be justifiable. This could also encourage the generosity and “support” of members from “other” parties that do not allow dual membership.

According to Wikipedia, the brexit party has apparently already supporters and donors amounting to a figure of around 115,000. Where do they come from? Yet, with no real members and a list of “supporters” smaller than the membership of the SNP, they have been capable to field candidates all over the UK bar NI for the last EU election? How did that happen?

I also find quite intriguing that the tory party membership, static at around 124000 for years and in serious downsizing tendency, all the sudden, before the election of the buffoon as leader, this membership increased in size by an incredible 30% and simultaneously, the brexit party, emerging from nowhere, has accumulated over 100,000 supporters in a heartbit.

I cannot help but wonder if, as in the same way many of the “brexit party” candidates are “ex”-tories, many of the current members of the tory party are also simultaneously “supporters” of the brexit party pointing to the possibility of some kind of collusion between both parties. Did any brexit party candidates/supporters vote in the tory leadership context?

My bet is that the brexit party will only survive enough to ensure brexit is delivered for the taxdodgers under the “management” of the buffoon. Then, exactly like UKIP did, this toxic construct will quickly implode and cleanly fall right back on its footprint and disappear as if it had never existed, all in time for the next election where the tories may need the votes back. I am convinced all the “ex” tories newly born “brexit party” faithful will quickly return to their tory roots. Exactly as we have seen with most UKIP candidates.

I think we are being conned and, as usual, the tory party is right at the centre of the con act.

Petra

Robert Peston:-

”Biggest appointment by far is Dominic Cummings as a senior advisor to help deliver Brexit in just 99 days – and reform Whitehall (his biggest passion). Sources say he will in effect by @BorisJohnson’s CEO. There will not be a formal chief of staff. “Boris will be his own…”

The new prime minister is expected to take the hugely controversial step of inviting the head of the Vote Leave campaign – and the brains behind the notorious “£350m-a-week for the NHS” claim – into No 10.

“For far too long the de facto political arm of Scotland’s independence movement has been characterised by indecision and inaction. Whatever good the SNP administration has been doing – and it is undeniable that it has done a great deal of good – in terms of providing leadership for the independence movement and taking forward Scotland’s cause, the SNP’s performance has fallen far short of the hopes and expectations of many in the Yes movement. Rubbish. They have a mandate to call a referendum if Scotladn is dragged out of the EU against its will. That has not happened yet, and may never happen.

The only other condition is tha people of Scotland change their opinion on independence. It looks as though that is starting to happen, but we need a week or so for the Boris effect to really kick in.

Calling a referendum now – which the media would universally label ‘illegal’ – would likely set the cause of Scottish independence back 20 years.

The manifesto said a ‘material change such as being taken out of the EU against our will’. Using the word ‘being’ suggests we can enact an independence referendum while the EU process is underway. If we have to wait for Brexit to be fully enacted the wording would be ‘having been’ or something similar.

Likewise, using the words ‘such as’ suggests the EU may not be the only ‘material change’ it could be argued that other material changes would enable the same trigger e.g. power grab or other material changes which threatens Scotland and its people.

I admire your optimism that Brexit may never happen but I don’t think it’s based in any kind of political reality.

“The criticism of the First Minister, her Government and her party was warranted by what we saw them doing – or not doing – over the weeks since Nicola Sturgeon outlined something that might easily be taken for a timetable for progressing Scotland’s cause. We presumed to understand the situation; but events subsequently conspired to make our presumption look just a little foolish as the First Minister now speaks with unmistakable determination, and just a hint of contained anger, about accelerating the timetable for action on the constitutional issue in a way that increasing numbers of people in the Yes movement appear to be demanding.”

Coco,

I’m NOT calling for an early referendum!!! It is woefully too late for that, and any pro Indy Campaign will barely get out the starting blocks before October.

What I want to see is a Constitutional red line, which should have been Scotland’s Backstop for at least three years now; a firm red line which automatically bring’s the Union to it’s timely demise whenever the line is crossed. A steadfast ultimatum. Brexit will cross that red line and break the ultimatum, it cannot fail to, and it is Scotland’s Sovereign Remain mandate which creates the Constitutional impasse which the Union cannot resolve and stay intact.

Our “democracy” is broken. Our media is run by a corrupt Establishment which indoctrinates our people with lies, distortions, and orchestrated narratives. Let us “prorogue” our crippled and dysfunctional democracy until our Nation is safe, and hold a ratification plebiscite AFTER we can talk freely and openly about constitutional issues without the subject being bludgeoned to death by the BBC and British Establishment’s interference.

Yes, it’s hasty. Yes it’s an impassioned response in a time of National Emergency. Yes, it’s a volatile situation to create. But WE DIDN’T CREATE THIS CONSTITUTIONAL SHOWDOWN. THEY DID.

Refusing to be Brexited is now the only show in town. How and why we’ve got ourselves bogged down defending the UK from a No Deal Brexit and demanding a Peoples’ Vote to reverse Brexit is just a bewildering cacophony of white noise. How did it come to this? We are expending ourselves fighting fights of no relevance while the central and essential Constitutional imperatives are sorely neglected.

Scotland won it’s Independence in 2016 when it presented Westminster with a sovereign edict from the Scottish electorate which it must subjugate if it wants Brexit, or acquiesce to and accept that Scotland has opted out of Brexit. Just close the god damned trap and we are done. The Union is no more.

Like you I’m struggling with the membership numbers, there seems to be a variety of opinions as to what they actually are. However, Hunt on his visit to Scotland said that the Scottish membership were very important in this election as they represented 1/6 th of UK membership. Membership in Scotland we are told is around 8,000, that would make the UK total under 50,000. If true, where did 159,000 votes come. Are the voting numbers being inflated because just 50,000 people deciding on the next PM would be ridiculous.

Please pass on to as many people as possible or you can keep Boris

See “Brexit An Uncivil War” on More 4 for a brilliant portrayal of Dominic Cumming by Benedict Cumberbatch. The whole sorry Leave campaign dissected in a way the BBC never could.

But it may soon disappear now that he’s been made an official adviser to Boris Johnston.

had to switch off Radio 4 lunchtime “news”. They’re treating the elevation of Boris Johnston like a Royal wedding. Boak.

Im curious as to how the idiot PM will be treated by the press in coming months. I hope its negative, because then it might mean there’s some hidden kernel of decency or competence. Maybe. But then Scottish independence needs a twat in number 10.

However something to bear in mind when it comes to press coverage of any leader, or indeed any of those in the verbal culture war, and in particular international groups with obscure funding who seem to be meddling in national politics, law and education:

From ‘The Spirit Of Militarism’ by Nahum Goldmann 1915:

‘The historical mission of our world revolution is to rearrange a new culture of humanity to replace the previous social system. This conversion and re-organisation of global society requires two essential steps: firstly, the destruction of the old established order, secondly, design and imposition of the new order. The first stage requires elimination of all frontier borders, nationhood and culture, public policy, ethical barriers and social definitions, only then can the destroyed old system elements be replaced by the imposed system elements of our new order.
The first task of our world revolution is Destruction. All social strata and social formations created by traditional society must be annihilated, individual men and women must be uprooted from their ancestral environment, torn out of their native environments, no tradition of any type shall be permitted to remain as sacred, traditional social norms must only be viewed as a disease to be eradicated, the ruling dictum of the new order is; nothing is good so everything must be criticized and abolished, everything that was, must be gone.
After destruction of the old order, construction of the new order is a larger and more difficult task. We will have torn out the old limbs from their ancient roots in deep layers, social norms will be lying disorganized and anarchic so they must be blocked against new cultural forms and social categories naturally re-emerging. The general masses will have been first persuaded to join as equals in the first task of destroying their own traditional society and economic culture, but then the new order must be forcibly established through people again being divided and differentiated only in accordance with the new pyramidal hierarchical system of our imposed global monolithic new world order’

Jack Colatin @9.23 on 24th.
Speaking out and leaking information, no matter the wrongdoing that the leak exposes, is soon to expose the leaker, if the Tory committee who has just reported on the Darroch leak, to absolutely life changing penalties.

Aside of making the leaker responsible for the cost of investigating the leak, the committee also proposed that an individual’s lifetime pension would be confiscated.

And by such acts the Tory’s will force silence and fear to anyone trying to expose wrongdoing. Yes Jack Collarin, A’s Julian Assange knows, exposing wrongdoing, war crimes, murder, is something that will cost you you everything.

But let us not worry becausevin the 1930s folks effectively walked into the gas chambers thinking it would neve4 happen to them.

Ian Sanderson

Time will tell of course but I wonder if we were better with the “devil we knew” rather than his replacement..?
