Two more milestones

Posted on August 16, 2013 by

We try not to bang on about our readership stats so often these days, but as some mainstream media types have been casting doubt on our figures this week and we’ve just passed a couple of nice round numbers, we thought you might like to know.

augstats

We’d like to say a big “Welcome!” to the 15,000 brand-new readers who’ve joined us in the last 30 days, a big “Thanks!” to those of you who were here already, and an extra-special one to those of you who told others. Keep spreading the word, folks.

It would appear that due to recent events over the last couple of weeks that the biased media are doing a lot of the work for us.

The article in the courier was a nice bit of free advertising and the lies were quickly rebutted by people from W.O.S , the end result was that people from Dundee , Perth , Fife and Angus who did not know about wings have found the site.

The same can be said for the media implementing a blanket ban on the wings poll , due to people from wings mentioning it on twitter , facebook and in the m.s.m , people are looking for information on it and the only place to see it is wings.

Impossible, I guess.  One newspaper may be read by more than one person.  On the other hand a web site may be accessed by the same person using more than one device, and so that person may be counted as more than one reader.  (I’ve never quite figured that out – if I’m logged in with the same user name on two devices, does it count me as one or two people?)

On yet another hand, there are newspapers that are never read, either because they’re corporate freebies of some sort (hotels, airports and so on) or because the purchaser didn’t get round to it before they needed something to wrap the vegetable peelings in.  Clicking on five pages of a blog usually suggests you’re actually reading some of it.

While the figures are fantastic for Wings ,it does show there is a real hunger for people to get information . Despite , access to the Internet , we are still receiving an awful lot of our info second or third hand , thus allowing anyone to come on the telly and basically stifle any debate by calling it mince.

However much we ridicule Cochers , Hootsman etc , they are still able to print their nonsense because the general public have limited time and access to not only information but where that info is sourced.

Now whether its Trident or whether its bedroom tax , the one group of people who after taking decisions on these matters is our local councils so in the name of transparency and accountability why do all councils not stream their meetings ? May be dull as dishwater but a) it would let the public be involved in local democracy b) archive info c) take away the he said / she said stuff and really let us see who is talking mince.

Just talk would be enough.   It’s a dirty corrupt tactic, but par for the course for the London BritNAT establishment.

Extreme? Taking an interest in and sharing information about Scotland’s referendum is essential to a this being a democratic process and WOS is one arena which takes an empirical stance.

I pass the ‘news’ paper stand everyday and see the absolute lies and myths being touted as facts to the general public, much of which is ‘extreme’ in their attack on many sections of society who have no voice or power to fight back. That’s extreme.

We dont seem to have any editorial journos on our side …. is this not the case ?

Its all very well being right, but its so easily countered by a smug prime time rebuff – “its on the news so it must be true”. Our counter arguements are usually missed or sniggered at by the likes of Brewer etc.

Somebody said it here before and it was spot on … why did we not see how important it was to get the ‘reserved matter’ of control of broadcasting reversed.

Because Scots trusted the nice people at the BBC to counter the Scottish (BritNat Loyalist Media) bias ….. which never happend.
Does anybody have an answer to this because we need on soon. Does anyone have the ear of Scottish Journos ?

In the name of Iain Banks where are the great writers of Scotlaand to counter this dangerous situation with the media and the likes of Newsnight Scotland propaganda. We need to call them out now. If there is no backbone for a fightback from within the presscore and commentators then a new breed must be sought or new fronts opened up surely.

Strange comment from the tweeter Alan Rodin in the ‘casting doubts’ link ,”Think Panelbase are going to have some questions to answer.” Sunday Times Panelbase Polls OK, very inconvenient result from Wings Panelbase to be questioned!

I think it comes back to proUnionist followers inability to grasp they don’t control the agenda anymore.
It is a massive concern though that the media, in the desperate attempts to portray only the Unionist side as relevant, they have abandoned all normal criteria of accountability.

e.g. the NATO non-story. There is a clear precedent for a country having nuclear submarines removed from their territory and being admitted to NATO. Spain did this.

Yet the papers still reported, uncritically, the comments of Rennie and Davidson and Labour representatives.

In another poll showing the distribution of Yes voters, it was claimed that these were concentrated in poorer areas. If this is true there is the obvious conclusion that while Labour is supposed to be the Party who looks out for the poor, he ‘poor’ clearly don’t think they do, a point not picked up by media commentators.

So the media doesn’t mind supporting a Party that the people don’t have any trust in to represent them.

British broadcasting? I watched a few minutes of that programme on tv last night about Scotland being the ”second fattest country in the world”.
    I don’t for a minute believe it.

The programme was supposed to be about the Scots. I watched as they went to Parkhead in Glasgow and interviewed some people wearing green and grey football shirts. They were all plastic paddies of course; much more interested in the ‘ould country’ that their ancestors couldn’t wait to get out of 150 years or so ago.
I wouldn’t call these people Scots.

The next bit was where the presenter informed us that one part of Scotland where they had the fattest people was the Highlands. They took us up to Thurso where they interviewed a big fat wummin that could have been a mannequin for Goliath’s uniform. Was she highland? Judging by her accent she was English. Very English.

At this point I lost interest and turned the damned tv off.

The opposite also applies.  In this house two of us access from different computers (and an ipad).  However, when the Major had taken part in one of Stuart’s surveys I couldn’t access the survey from any of our computers – only one survey could be done from our ‘address’.  That seems to indicate that whilst some might have access from two computers one home, one work those who access from the same ‘address’ even if there’s two, three or four readers, might only be counted as one.  If that’s the case then the readership here could be much larger than we think.

Maybe they’re like that because they, and their ancestors when they came here, were treated like shite? And as for why they couldn’t wait to get out the “ould country”,ask yourself what the reasons for that may have been(British Imperialism ring a bell?) or if indeed they had the choice to leave or stay. I’m sure many of the crofters of Knoydart and Sutherland “couldn’t wait to get out”,not because they wanted to leave their homeland, but because it had become to intolerable to stay.

Over 5 page views per reader is a huge bonus because readers rarely click through the second or third page before losing the will to live or are distracted by pop up ads or by CNN flash reports that Jennifer Anniston has announced that she is considering getting her hair cut for Christmas.
If I didn’t know better, I’d say this well structured, clear, pointed, fair reporting & analysis by WOS, crowd funded by members of the public unwilling to accept being spoon fed British propaganda, was being done deliberately to attract attention as well as new readers.

I haven’t posted a comment on this site for a while as I saw no need to just repeat what other people have already said, usually much more eloquently than I could manage.

However, I could not let the earlier comments from “The Rough Bounds” go uncommented on as they are probably some of the nastiest sentiments I have seen on this site. I am not going to quote them again but what I would say is, is it any wonder that the M. Kellys and J. Reids have no love for Scotland with attitudes like this on display. Ask yourself these questions:

Why do M Kelly and others have no affinity for Scotland but would rather stay with the UK?

Why after 4 or 5 generations born and raised in Scotland do they not see themselves as Scottish?

Before posting please remember that this site is meant to persuade the undecided. How easily could the earlier comments posted be spun to show the independence movement as nothing more than a front for sectarian bigotry?

The campaign for Scottish independence is about civic nationalism and that means examining and challenging existing unacceptable attitudes to other groups in Scotland. I will give you the benefit of the doubt and say the comments were posted in haste or anger at the program you were watching but please have a think before you post again.
