New Labour Pundit Of The Year
Regular readers of this site will be impressed, if perhaps less than astonished, at the new high score achieved this week in the timeless game of McTernan Predicts:
It followed an unbroken line of epic forecasting inexactitude for the former Labour spin doctor and ever-present media pundit, stretching all the way back to 2010.
On Brexit:
On the 2015 Labour leadership election:
On Jim Murphy’s stint as Scottish Labour leader:
On the aftermath of the indyref:
On ex-Tory Douglas Carswell of UKIP forcing a by-election in Clacton in 2014:
(Carswell romped home with an increased vote share of almost 60% and an increased majority of over 12,000.) On the 2015 general election in Scotland:
And in the UK as a whole:
On the 2016 Australian elections, won by Malcolm Turnbull’s Liberal Party:
On the 2011 Scottish Parliament elections, just three months before what turned out to be the SNP’s unprecedented landslide and majority:
On what would(n’t) happen after he got that one spectacularly wrong:
And on the previous Labour leadership election:
[EDIT November 15] And finally, on last Friday’s big match:
But the President Of Wrongness can’t afford to rest on his laurels. Because there’s a hungry young turk in town (where “in town” means “the Mail on Sunday, the Telegraph and on telly”), and he’s been quietly building a track record over the same period to show he’s got the chops for the challenge.
(If you have no idea who Barry Goldwater was, like we didn’t, he was the Republican candidate who got hammered by Lyndon B. Johnson in the US Presidential election of 1964, the year after the assassination of John F. Kennedy.)
Of course, there’s also a rank (and we mean that in every sense) outsider:
This site is poorly qualified to judge such an august title, of course. As well as not being New Labourites, we called the 2015 UK election right from 2012, we called the possible loss of the SNP’s Holyrood majority almost nine months ahead of the 2016 election, we called Brexit right as far back as 2014 and we called the US election right from 2015 onwards.
So we thought we’d hand it over to you to pick the winner.
Who'll be the WORST at predicting politics in 2017?
- John McTernan (80%, 2,145 Votes)
- Duncan Hothersall (11%, 285 Votes)
- A blind monkey throwing hedgehogs at a dartboard (7%, 198 Votes)
- Dan Hodges (1%, 37 Votes)
Total Voters: 2,665
After directing Die Hard all his work went downhill 🙂 🙂 🙂
OK Rev Put the hammers down …’ promise to never do that joke again.
I agree Dan Hodges is a world class humourist and the only reason I didn’t vote for him is that I’ve never heard of him. I didn’t choose Duncan Hothersall because he seems to be going flat out for laughs in an attempt to reel in a sympathy vote. I chose John McTernan because he has an inter-continentally unrivalled record.
Let’s hear it for Jonah John McTernan.
The only question remain in is why is it you can never find a whale when you want one?
Torrance the Terrible should be on that list of dunces.
But the point is made. The right-wing of all parties is desperate to control Scotland again, and will do and say anything to achieve it, even to looking like a complete idiot predicting crap in the face of irrefutable evidence to the contrary.
Of course they will have learned their lesson and will stop doing it now!
Tried to vote again … thwarted – damn it !!
Too much like democracy on here !
Their credibility appears to be their proximity to those in the know and the Mikado type titles conferred on them – McTernan and Blair, Hodges and his mum, Duncan and Kezia (!)
sif we are talking credibility here, should we not have Fred Goodwin on as a pundit talking about the economy?
Impressive from Dan Hodges, but McTernan is peerless in this field. You’ve not even touched on his Australian adventures.
‘…..throwing hedgehogs at a dartboard’
Are we going for the UKIP vote?
I want them all to win…except that poor blind monkey.
It’s all just the chattering polictical classdes talking to and among themselves. They have no fucking clue just how much Scotland has REALLY changed. Long may they fail to realise that simple fact and remain the bunch of sad losers they are.
Scotland has awoken from its Labour-induced coma. And won’t be going to sleep again any time soon.
Ooft! 😀
Not the greatest record is it?
More importantly, has Mr McTernan paid up on his wager yet?
Or Davidson/Dugdale/Rennie/Harvie always insulting people asking ridiculous questions and always getting it wrong. Davidson give it up. Your double standards are showing. Westminster Tories unfair taxes 40% taxes on the Oil and Gas sector. Losing thousands of jobs and £Billions in Scotland. Davidson the joker card. The Chinese are is getting £Billions of UK taxpayers to build Hinkley Point and HS2. Wasting £Billions of funds. Double standards. The arguments are ridiculous
Dugsdale is certainly not working for free. The most expensive jollies on taxpayers money. The 3rd rate, unelected unionists rejects. The most useless expense in Parliament. Attacking Education/NHS indefinitely.

I can’t wait until indy ref 2 … just so as we can all experience the “TRUTH” from messers McTernan, Hothersall and Hodges. 😀
The never ending s***e emanating from the “hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil” gang of three will be a never ending source of welcome light comedic relief from the non stop s***e being put about by Scruffy Fluffy and co. 😀
Nostraternan strikes again.
It ha to be McTernan by a cuntry mile.
Dear Manic McTernan,
My Lottery numbers for this week are: 3,6,9,16,27, and 36.
I would be very much obliged if you could get yourself back on the BBC to predict that these numbers just could never ever come up, in a month of Sundays.
Your sincerely

Labour actually pay this clown a wage!
Maybe explains why they are dead in the water.
Please look into extending his contract.
Pundits given a loud-hailer by the BBC to try and shape opinion (rather than reflect it).
And the people just aren’t listening to them because IndyRef#1 opened their eyes to the endless, craven lies they spout. It is truly risible. Best laugh is they STILL come out with this guff expecting people to suddenly forget all they have said and done and trust them. They still think of themselves as being ‘influential’ failing to see how the landscape of Scotland has changed beyond any recognition. Their purile, wayward mutterings amount to nothing more than a wet fart looking for someone who’s not already holding their nose.
They don’t see the people of Scotland are finsihed with them, taht we have moved on and are seeking a better future without them; a better future they themselves promised us for decades–and never delivered. But, of course, even if the could have delivered such, they never actually would deliver for taking people out of pverty, educating them, moving them away from working class Labour voters would simply never do. Keep them down, keep them poor–it’s the Labour way.
No more. Scotland will take charge of its own reins, there is nothing surer. It is only a matter of time, by no later than 2020. And Mystic McTernan–you can definitely bank on THAT!
I voted for the blind monkey, but I was getting hedgehogs mixed up with moles.
On a more serious note, part of the Brexit and Trump victories is due to a reaction against McTernan and his ilk.
Just in case you’re wondering, i voted for the blind monkey.
Under no circumstances would i ever waste a vote on any of that lot.
In Greek mythology. the God Apollo gave Cassandra the daughter of the King of Troy the power of prophecy with the twist that she would never be believed by anyone. I think John McTernan has been visited by Appolo somewhere down the line and the gift given to Cassandra has been reversed.especially for him.

Does the Pope shit in the woods?
Oh!
Err!
Wait a minute!
Stuart there is a limit to mocking the afflicted, but I think we can all agree and make an exception in John McTernan’s case.
John McTernan sums up what is wrong with labour in Scotland and labour Scots in London. However I suspect McTernan would be onject to being called a Scot and prefer to be called british.
Looks like someone needs to find a new job.
But the britnat media thinks very highly of McTernan. Says it all really.
McTernan? was he not some sort of political analyst? the BBC seems to point out he is worth listening to anyway, and they should know?. oops!
Does McTernan make predictions outside of politics? There’s a fortune to be made here folks.
Just a wee heads up folks.
For those, like me, who have not watched the weekly Yoon put down show a.k.a. First Minister’s Questions don’t be too alarmed. From all the tweets I’ve seen it is basically just ONE question rehashed a multitude of ways … apparently.
What’s that?
What is the question?
Well without giving too much away it’s all about someone wrecking your house then complaining because your house is a mess … apparently. 😀 (borrowed this from a tweet I read not my own thought provoking statement … sorry 😀 )
If McTernan ever says, ‘Scotland will become Independent’, that’s the time to panic.
Don’t like to be judgemental, but do enjoy sticking pins in wee puppets (laughs maniacally),statistically Americans are more afraid of clowns than terrorists….is that why there was a such low turnout ?.

I posted this on the previous thread but it seems more relevant here :-
Read an item on BBC Ceefax this morning that gave me reason to have a wee chuckle to myself but then realised it illustrates just how the BBC propaganda sometimes works.
The item states, under the headline :-
“Guides and scouts ‘gain boost for life’.”
.
.
Now there is nothing whatsoever wrong with the study nor with the scientific data. The error comes in the supposed scientific conclusion drawn from analysis by the BBC headline writer.
Their conclusion is not in the item itself but is in the headline that states, “Guides and scouts ‘gain boost for life’.” They do nothing of the sort.
The headline claims that by joining the scouts or guides it will give the recruit better mental health. However, the text in the article says nothing of the sort, for the proper conclusion, by anyone with a real scientific background would arrive at a quite different, and more correct, conclusion.
The correct conclusion is that the type of person, who joins the scouts or guides is the type of person more likely to have better mental health in later life.
Ergo, they do not gain it by joining the organisation because they are already predisposed to have better mental health at age 50.
Furthermore, it shows that the kind of person who does not join such quasi-military organisations is more likely to not be predisposed to have better mental health at age 50.
However, neither correct conclusion has concluded the organisations have anything whatsoever to do with the matter of better mental health.
This illustrates the sheer lack of investigative skills of the BBC, self styled, journalists and more so of their headline writers.
Mcternan The Prophetless rides again!
Behind a firewall, obviously.
A pity, because it starts so sadly!

If you’re going to let us vote let’s have a real laugh at their expense !!
If Macternan predicts an England win tomorrow…woohoo!!!
He does threaten to chin you if you’re cheeky to him though.
McTernan is a deluded fool @ mike cassidy says at 1:15 pm if he truly believes:
“Donald Trump hasn’t destroyed the political centrism of Tony Blair and Bill Clinton. He’s turbo-charged it”
Tony Bliar (no typo) and Bill Clinton destroyed their own ‘political legacies’ by being greedy and getting caught out as hypocrites.
Bliar (no typo) & Clinton’s centrism/legacies were marketing constructs which the electorate now see through, nothing more.
However McTernan still makes a few quid spouting this pish so he’s maybe not that daft.
Well no where near as daft as the editors and producers that invite him on and pay his wages.
Labour Party members (Scotland & UK) still among that list of dafties paying his wages?
I’m sure Corbyn thinks it value for money, anyone know or is it an FOI job??
Altogether now:
One John McTernan, there’s only one John McTernan,
One John McTernan, there’s only one John McTernan.
I dread the day that he predicts Scottish Independence. Hopefully it will never happen – his prediction I mean, not independence, obviously.
I recall Iain McWhirter calling the financial crash from about ten years out, citing overheated house prices as the reason.
At the other end of the scale, McTernan is the veritable King Kong of Wrong, the Oracle of Error, the Nostradamus talking out his anus. The others aren’t in the same league.
You have done a great service for TV researchers.
Every time McTernan is introduced on the TV as a pundit they should run through this record.
Dunc’s a poet. From the crew what vomited Project Fear over their Scotland region of greater England, 2014. It was all for our own good though, terrifying just enough Scots away from running Scotland.

That would be Pundit Zero I take it.
Unless, of course, his real plan is to destroy all left of centre movements everywhere in the World.
Watching the great unrest in America is like watching our own country. Many cannot believe that they elected a President who finds it OK to mock the disabled in public and who talks of cutting ties in trade and defence with the rest of the world.
They talk of fascism, xenophobia and everything else we have rejected coming from England.
Times of great upheaval are ahead and mostly dependent on this man who is taking over the White House.
“If McTernan ever says, ‘Scotland will become Independent’, that’s the time to panic.”
Well, even a broken clock is right twice per day.
Hodges and McTernan are like the WORSE tag prediction team EVER!
Hothersall …..the lone whinger on repeat…the denier in denial denies what is actually undeniable.
Obviously true that political prophets are so ten a penny and are now so easily defined as being lying biased f**ks and well….frankly are just mere wishful thinkers bearing false witness to deflect from both the reality and truth of any situation they themselves are opposed to.
A tried and tested formula now proving futile and risking ridicule when results they predict are constantly proven to be oh so deliciously WRONG…again and again and again.
Glad that they are all drowning in the exact ( tee-hee ) science of astrological predictions rather than predictions based on actual measured ,truthful, realistic and intelligent reasoning.
Predictions of Titanic proportions ….Wahahaha …..
Rev Stu, are you accepting postal votes for this question?
If so, do I send them first to Buffalo Ruth for scrutinising…

Everything SLab dudes like Dunc do and say is all to stop Scottish democracy. Its that simple. Just the idea of a Scotland not run by our chums in the south is so unacceptable to theses guys, its infected everything they say and do.
It must be great to have that ability to just “shake it off” when a result is exactly opposite what you have been championing so strongly for and acting as if you are an actual expert in your field.

It’s just power, British power. They dont want to give up British power, well anywhere really that threatens their power. Its partly why Brexit won, on empty UKOK bullshit. Dunc and Macternan are merely spokes berks for that great British power, as it props itself up with WMD’s, special relationship fantasy and usual Graun bollox like this.

The electorate thinks politics is too important to be left to the politicians.
The politicians think democracy is too important to be left to the electorate.
The pundits think their theories are to important to be debunked by mere facts.
The others are bad, but McTernan is a veritable King Kong of Wrong.
Tough call but John has an unerring deftness of touch that is hard to top. Duncan is possibly his protégé?
Just as well he is not employed by Ladbrokes. He would bankrupt them! The thing that amazes me is that he keeps getting things spectacularly wrong, but then keeps doing it. People in the media have him on as some kind of insightful political guru!

Look what it makes them do. Latest tory Britnat horror show, they tried to destroy that possible £12bn China deal. Why? What’s good for Scotland is not good for their Britain.
Or look at Dugdale, throughout all the extraordinary struggle for same sex marriage and legal rights in Scotland, she kept completely schtum, not a peep. Then just before the last Scots GE, tahda!

This scientist agrees with you. At one stage my father ran the local scout troop, my mother the guides. I? I went to Boy’s Brigade AND St. John. This was all in a thoroughly middle class area of Dunedin, NZ.
A fellow kid I knew in BB lived in a ‘difficult’ home adjacent to said area, from the dank, rarely visited valley down the back. This boy grew up to be NZ’s Most Wanted, yes really. He was a bit of a bampot back then aged 8 and BB didn’t do much to knock the hard edges off him, reputedly his Dad did that. He and another boy I knew, nice young lad, robbed the local post office. Bampot’s shotgun discharged into the counter as he leapt it.
He ended up ‘going bush’ a bit like ‘Hunt for the Wilderpeople’. He topped himself in Mt. Eden nick, suspected of having murdered a woman.
It’s just occurred to me. I should have asked David Arnott if he comes from Ayrshire. I remember a Dave Arnott who worked in I.T. at Auchencruive Agricultural College in Ayr. From what I know of him, if that’s the same guy, is that he was an obnoxious right wing Anglophile Tory, obsessed with apping his betters. Was/Is a member of Ayr cricket Club and is partial to a game of crocket. I wonder if it’s him?

The Democrats were originally the party that supported slavery, it was the Republicans who opposed it. The Republicans appear to have changed their position to support a model of ‘post-modern indentured labour’. I’m sure not if the Democrats have changed their position though. 😉

@Macart,
It is more than they don’t care. They exhibit absolute contempt for those people who dwell in housing schemes. They are nothing to them but a vote. Sure they will come to your door at election time with promises of a better life but underneath their breath they are thinking you are dull uneducated and beneath them..
You are to be used to further them and their party brand of politics and you will be too stupid to question it or see the road they try to lead you down.
They are despicable.
He should be titled ‘the Seer Mcternan’.
All interviewers should end any question to him with an imploring ‘tell us the future, oh great seer!’.
After his reply they should throw up their hands and proclaim ‘the oracle has spoken!’
Couldn’t be any more ridiculous than actually granting him some credibility and letting him speak on the telly in the first place.
He’s speaking in toungues again. Who’s got tomorrow’s C4 7pm news for his next public display of national tv fcukwittery? “Well, Jon, I think its safe to say the Tony Blair and Gordon Brown have shown the world that its not really what you say, its the way that you say it…”

My point was that the study only concludes that people who have been in these organisations have better mental health in later life. The study in no way claims anything else than that.
Yet the headline write has made the claim that the recruits, “gain”, better mental health in later life just by joining those organisations. The study makes no such claim.
That is, though, exactly what the Westminster Establishment Propaganda Wing is all about. As Independence supporters we see this all the time and Rev Stu is adept at highlighting it.
McTernan. makes such unsubstantiated claims with his predictions. He draws false conclusions upon evidence that does not support his conclusions.
Someone call 999.

“Muscleguy & Robert Peffers
Did you know that the “business-cycle” is a fallacy? Incorrect analysis of data and wrongly identified correlations. There are still folk who think it is a fact of nature though.”
That’s the whole point. It is a truth that a very large number of people get taken in simple by being unable to read and comprehend and interpret properly what they have read.
I spent 50 years in electro/mechanical diagnostic work, ( mainly electronics). It might surprise you how many times I got to a job to find someone had gone through a very long and complex series of tests and diagnostics and failed to find the fault.
Yet upon arriving at the job it was not uncommon to find they had failed to do the basic checks like switching on the mains electricity, turning on the fuel or water supplies and checking plugs and pipework stopcocks were connected up and turned on.
The tendency is to draw false conclusions from the presented evidence or to miss out bits of the presented evidence.
So there is this prime example still on BBC Ceefax today.
The false report is under the Heading of, “Health”.
BTW: Wingers who do not pay for a TV Licence can get the BBC Ceefax pages on BBC Radio Channels on the TV set thus NOT viewing live TV broadcasts.
The false report is under the Heading of, “Health”.
Someone call 999!

Sorry Robert, I was looking at other stuff and misinterpreted. 🙂
Sorry -Idiot that I am.
I mistakenly voted for the hedgehog – reduce that 7%
It’s MacTernan
I’ve asked McTernan to pick 53 winning lottery numbers for me … simples!
Was he perhaps thinking of Bill and not “Hill….” ?
John McTernan might prove to be eventual winner of your poll to find the WORST at predicting politics in 2017 but there is no doubt surely that he will continue to find his way to BBC studios and be hailed frequently as an electoral guru.
I’m convinced McTernan is a saboteur. Everything he touches goes in exactly the opposite direction to what he “predicts”. His entire political history shows failure after failure for the people he works for.
It couldn’t happen to a more obnoxious trio…
