Accentuating the negative

Posted on September 21, 2019 by

(Editor’s note: as a result of this cartoon, Mr Cairns has been sent on mandatory administrative leave of absence to let’s call it a “health spa” for the next two weeks. While he’s receiving let’s call it “therapy”, fill the gap by purchasing the latest volume of his works, which is guaranteed not to contain this one, we can only hope and pray.)

Ahhh… Chris Cairns, you have completely nailed the utter charlatan, Tory-in-disguise, called Jo Swinson. An image to scare the kids.

I expect she is about to do EXACTLY what Nick Clegg did, and sell out the Liberal democrats, for a ministerial mondeo. I have no idea why libdem members keep on electing such utter frauds as their leader.

Just as it was all about Nick Clegg’s career, so too it seems to be with Jo Swinson. Yet another poor quality careerist greasy pole climber, who hasn’t the talent to succeed in the larger parties, literally using Libdems for her personal career gain.

I hate tories, and I hate Labour, but I truly despise these charlatan careerists they just keep on electing to lead the Libdems.

The hypocrisy of how she, and so many other BritNats, can profess to be democrats but only when it suits them has become sickening. The question of Scots deciding our own future has ripped away the veneer of democracy from so many as they try to undermine the democratic process.

Clearly there are some on the YES side who doubt we can win IndyRef2. They should look to the BritNats who have little doubt about the outcome should a vote be held. Their main tactic is to prevent a vote occurring.

The Lib Dem positioning is a real clear message. They never were going to get die hard Brexiteers or independence supporters, but if you against either or both propositions, you have a natural home. This can appear attractive to centralist tories, non nutter labour supporters and those SNP voters who do not want an immediate referendum.

Government is paralysed at devolved and national level in uk, no positive legislation is passing as independence and brexit efforts dominate the narrative and thinking. I think an option to move beyond this could be attractive on the doorstep.

You have a point there. It can’t be great seeing your leaderene caricatured like this. But it’s the hypocritical policies that are really ugly.

The Liberal Party (as was) did once have a clear policy – it was called “Home Rule”. More recently there was going to be some great initiative by Ming Campbell, but somehow that sunk into the sands of St.Andrews without trace and was replaced by a kind of silent NI-style “never!”. Swansong, this puny MBA-clone inheritor of Grimond’s legacy dares to tell the SNP and the wider independence movement, with its vastly greater support, what she supposes they may not do.

    What arrogance, what presumption.

It is not the only reason for a second referendum. The statement about the “material change of circumstance” also referenced indication that a majority of Scots supported independence. The statement only said “such as ” and in no way precluded any other reason.

A substantial majority of Scots voted to stay in the EU. The SNP Scottish Government is honouring that vote by trying to keep us in the EU and is increasing support for the SNP and independence as it does so.

I am surprised bythe number of folk that don’t appear to understand that doing the right things is politically very significant in the longer term.

Those who want us to figuratively shoot our feet off in dishonest political manouvering reminds me of some in the Labour Party in Lanarkshire in the 70s who thought that the Tories closing the steel industry would give Labour Lanarkshire for ever so they made no real effort to stop a disaster.

Those who actually want a Brexit disaster for Scotland are guilty of the same lazy thinking.

The 2016 mandate only gave Brexit as an example of the type of change which would justify an IndyRef2. A Hell of a lot more has changed over recent years. WM has totally cast aside any respect for Scotland’s democratic wishes. They have shown their so call Union to certainly not be any sort of partnership. Scotland is now being treated as a colonial possession of England. We are being given zero say on reserved matters.

IMO there’s a good case for IndyRef2 driven by the changed relationship of which pushing through Brexit is just one piece.

As a normal lurker on the site I can’t understand why there is such support to stop Brexit given that it is the main example given for a second referendum. Why would people want to stop Brexit when that will mean No Indy referendum.

Because the SNP values it’s majority in the polls over the essential principles of Scotland’s Constitutional Sovereignty, and if it’s seen as too militantly opposed to Brexit, it will alienate their Europhobic supporters who don’t like Europe but vote SNP for Indy.

They take the cynical attitude that being mealy mouthed about Brexit and letting it happen is strategically advantageous, because letting down ardent EU supporters like me might piss us all off intensely, but even pissed off and seething with steam coming out our ears, we can still be relied on to vote YES. Those of us who aren’t deported first of course.

The SNP politicians, only have an ephemeral regard for Scottish Sovereignty. Had they been at all disposed to stand firm on Scotland’s Constitutional Sovereignty, Scotland would have had a Constitutional Backstop as robust as intractable as the Irish Backstop, a veritable Brexit kill switch from 2016, but the SNP think it would have driven away Eurosceptic SNP supporters and put their vote share at risk.

Constitutional Strategy 0 Democratic Strategy 1

The big problem is, the strategy means looking the other way while our Sovereign will to reject Brexit is subjugated, but this too represents additional grievance capital to boost the YES vote whenever there eventually is a YES referendum.

If Scotland does want to see it’s Constitutional Sovereignty defended from colonial subjugation, and defended in a Constitutional Courtroom, it would seem the SNP is not the organisation to put your faith in.

I am not anti-democratic, but I have all kinds of alarm bells ringing about “democracy” being a meaningful or deliverable principle if Scotland allows itself to be subjugated by Brexited, and has placed all it’s eggs in a referendum in a fascist UK which has successfully overruled Scotland’s Constitutional Sovereignty, and is further intent upon dismantling Scotland’s democratic infrastructure, and is free to subject our Nation too even more of its cynical colonial indoctrination.

To be blunt, I believe a democratic route to Independence is a massive gamble which gives strength and opportunity to our enemies to cheat us and lie to us, and rig our systems to their advantage as they always do, and always will.

Our Sovereignty, our Constitution, our 1320 Declaration that the people of Scotland are sovereign, is the essential truth with Westminster finds wholly indigestible and incontestable. That is why the British Establishment must obscure the truth from Scotland, and pedal their myths about the false sovereignty of Westminster Parliament and “UK” democracy. We Scot’s must be indoctrinated to obey the UK government and believe the lie that we have forfeited our sovereign birthright.

I am scathing in my contempt for this strategy, not merely because it’s a disingenuous swindle of ardent pro-Europeans, but because it forfeits and abandons important benchmarks in obdurate legal and constitutional principle, and puts our Nation at the mercy of a population routinely subjected to the BritNat’s insidious indoctrination and misinformation. To me, this seems gratuitously reckless and inanely stupid.

Every morning when I wake up, I ache to hear the news that Ian Blackford is no longer just saying the words that Scotland will not be Brexited against it’s will, but he has secured a legal Backstop recognised by Europe that Scotland’s involuntary Brexit is unlawful and unconstitutional. I ache to hear that news that Joanna Cherry has been fortified by her success in establishing the right to revoke Article 50, and I hope, reversing the unlawful prorogation of Westminster, and has decided to go for the “big one” and dispute Westminster’s “Union-Busting” attempted colonial subjugation of Scotland’s Constitutional integrity.

For me, Brexit is the watershed. Our Scottish Government will either have defended our Constitutional integrity and status as a Nation, or they will have sold out the principle for their own naive childlike faith in democracy. They will have my undying respect for the first principle, but my withering and eternal condemnation if they have sold us all down the river in the name of the second.

Come on Ian Blackford. Come on Joanna Cherry. You both know what needs to be done. For God’s sake, for Scotland, do it, and do it now.

All that criticism of the SNP fighting to keep the United Kingdom is cobblers awls, Ken. There is nothing strange or wrong about it. It is no more than the anti-FM/SG/SNP doing their usual Red Herring deflection and what they are deflecting from is, of course, the truth.

The truth being they want to make it seem the situation is a battle between the countries of Scotland and England. It isn’t because The United Kingdom is a union of only the two kingdoms, Scotland and England and the kingdom of England that signed, “The Treaty of Union”, was comprised of England, Wales & all Ireland so what the Status Quo Ante will be after the Kingdom of Scotland declares the union is over will be the Kingdom of Scotland and the Kingdom of England. There will be no legal rUnited Kingdom.

So the real truth is the SNP are fighting to keep the United Kingdom in the European Union is because until the moment the United Kingdom leaves the European Union then The Kingdom of Scotland is legally part of the United Kingdom that is leaving the European Union and the SNP form the Kingdom of Scotland Government.

Thus, when the chips are down and Westminster drags The Kingdom of Scotland out of the European Union against the People of Scotland’s will then, and only then, the case for the legally sovereign people of Scotland as citizens of the European Union is complete and that is the time to assert the Claim of Right and claim our sovereign right and our legal right as citizens of the European Union to insist we remain in the European Union and to declare the union of the United Kingdom is over.

The fact is the SNP are correctly fighting to keep the United Kingdom in the EU because The Kingdom of Scotland is legally one of the two kingdoms that form the United Kingdom and no amount of deflection by these numpties can change that by trying to brainwash people that Westminster is the legal parliament of England.

Westminster is not the legal Parliament of England it is legally the parliament of the United Kingdom and Scotland is legally an equally sovereign partner in the United Kingdom so what better time to claim our legally sovereign claim of right than when Westminster is blatantly breaking the Treaty of Union?

It means that the European Union Parliament has to make a decision to look after her Scottish European citizens rights as EU citizens and all it will take is for them to realise the United Kingdom that is the EU member state is composed of two equally sovereign kingdoms and Scotland remains while the two and a bit Kingdom of England can leave.

Except, of course, The Northern Ireland GFA has to be faced and Wales is fast also uniting for independence.

Nothing else you write essentially matters. Tell me what group WOULD you put your faith in?

Let me put something on the record – I am an SNP member and in the past have crossed swords with the party over several key issues, on one vital occasion for which I paid the price of suspension.

My membership – just as with the vote of anyone for the SNP – is conditional, a bond of trust founded on the belief that the party will repay that trust at fateful moments like this. The Claim of Right at party political level, if you will.

There is little question that the SNP was outflanked by May’s 2017 snap GE.

Rather than stand by our EU mandate, it ran on a timid ‘Standing up for Scotland’ ticket when the UKOK mob struck us hard with their “say no to IndyRef2” message

That was a strategic error and a very hard lesson learned.

I do not believe such a mistake will be made again. The next GE will be fought on a no holds barred independence ticket, with IndyRef2 next year at its centre.

Breeks, no one is disputing that Scotland is in danger. We are up against a ruthless and dangerous foe, an increasingly despotic state which can call on its media attack dogs as and when required.

But to decry democracy is to sink the very levels to which Boris Johnson and his junta is sinking. I do not envy you your company.

And you utterly mis-understand the motives of the SNP leadership, who are presently involved in a deadly game of contitutional chess with the UK Government.

One mis-step risks disaster, too much caution rsks dissention at home.

But the second Brexit kicks in, the pre-set ties with the EU will go live to plot our path back to Europe. Watch the video of Micola Sturgeon’s warm meeting with Jean Claude Juncker on June 11 as evidence.

Perhaps it’s best to imagine Scotland’s EU membership as akin to metamorphosis – an ugly caterpillar for 44 years in a dysfunctional UK state, a short-duration chrysalis until YES wins next year, then a beautiful butterfly when we take flight as an independent and gallus member of the EU in our own right.

That is a vision we should all be seeking to make a reality.

No. What you don’t grasp is the moment Scotland is subjugated is the moment we acquiesce to our Sovereignty being overruled, and thus, by our own complicity, we concede it is ‘not’ sovereign at all.

When you ‘later’ go for a referendum, your “sovereign”, the authority you have already deferred to, is under no constitutional obligation to recognise your autonomy in any degree, or your constitutional capacity to challenge ‘their’ UK Sovereignty. Because it is sovereign and you are not, it can deny you consent to hold a referendum, declare it illegal, or refuse to recognise your referendum result, and even call your referendum activities seditious. You will have placed Scotland’s neck on the Catalonian chopping block.

These unconstitutional eventualities seem sickening and disgraceful, but they are already manifest in Scotland being excluded from Brexit Negotiations, denied a voice in Europe, and we even have our Civil Servants excluded from EU discussions and briefings.

When a nation’s sovereignty is impinged, the colonial aggressor is automatically outside the law and their usurpation of sovereignty is void and unlawful. By rights, given Scotland’s both democratic and sovereign rejection of Brexit, then Westminster’s UK Brexit becomes an act of Colonial subjugation which should properly be deemed unlawful.

The fact is isn’t is down to our Scottish Government’s tacit acquiescence to be subjugated.

A lot of people in Scotland have grown so accustomed to this menu that they just accept it as normal. Like some prisoners just accept their situation.

Rugby like life in Scotland does have that doubt hanging over us
about are we a Nation, are we proud, are we confident, are we equal?

The Irish have a greater pride in their nation and themselves as against
All the odds they were able to defeat the great English Empire and all its
    Armies and deep pockets.

They recognise themselves as Warriors capable of overcoming anything.

Scots have been prevented from learning about our history at school thanks to
Our English masters. We were not permitted to know about the wealth that North
Sea oil could bring to our economy, we were even denied by Westminster from
Watching TV shows like Outlander that factually reflected the cruelty imposed
    By Westminster in the 1700’s.

At our referendum Westminster were allowed to break their Purda Law
The Vowed to make their first action on a No win to give Scotland
Extensive new powers, when in fact they first took a power away with EVEL.

They then broke all the promises of a £Billion carbon capture investment for Scotland
Secure 3,000 HMRC jobs that are now being relocated to Croydon, £3 Billion for Scottish
Renewable energy projects- now cancelled, 13 major new ships for the Clyde- greatly reduced
and of course a No vote would ensure Scotland’s wish remain in the EU would be assured?

I will add in the statement made promising that Scotland would have the most powerful devolved
    Governments in world.
We now know that Westminster has proclaimed that after the Brexit that we don’t want is enforced
They will take back 24 of the most important devolved powers that Holyrood has?

There can be no question or doubt that Scotland has been raped, robbed, abused and lied to
For hundreds of years and they can never be trusted to any degree on any topic at any time.

Jo Swinson could’ve said that for him, although she might’ve been stricter

    Explain Wales then?

You’re an idiot. And so is anyone else blaming a poor Scotland performance on not being Independent.

Coaching (Tactics and Preparation) is to blame.

Sigh. The 2019 fundraiser clearly stated that some of the money would be used on the Dugdale case. We also consulted the readership on whether to go ahead with the appeal, and the answer was yes by a 9:1 margin. So park your conspiracy theory up your hole.

Small consolation, but I can’t see England getting near the sharp end of this World cup either. In modern rugby, a team is as strong as it’s bench and the England replacements look pretty ropey on this showing.

Of course ,,,, there will be a “reunification” campaign!!!
Unlike all the other Countries who dumped Westminster Rule we share this island with them…
It will start the morning after the Yes vote
    and
It Won’t Ever Stop,it will take many forms, reverse the Yes vote to start with, economic pressure in the early years, and TREATIES between us signed up to by Holyrood going forward.
We cannot or should not be able to tie the hands of Scots in generations to come and it’s entirely possible that the lessons of what a Union with England really means will soon be forgotten.
As I think that we sometimes forget too, that it was Holyrood and those in it with the power to do so, that signed us into Westminster Rule in the first place.
Which is why I keep proposing that we bind Holyrood with our Constitution specifically in this area.

    EG…
Holyrood shall have the power to sign international Treaties they judge to be in Scotland’s interests.
But any and ALL Treaties must be put to the people of Scotland to approve it’s continuation every 25/30 year’s in a referendum… NO Exceptions….
Failure to do so by Holyrood will result in the Treaty ending by default.

It is about the only protection we can gift to future generations of Scots, when we’re not around to warn of the dangers of a Union with England and what that really means for Scotland.
Never again should Holyrood be able to sign us into a Treaty that lasts for CENTURIES…. Every Scot should have The Approval of any Treaty arrangements they were born into as a Constitutional right.

They (future Scots ) can enact Constitutional change ..of course they can…. We can only make sure that Holyrood cannot change anything in our Constitution all by itself and has to , again , consult the People of Scotland. But, other than a decent history class in the schools there’s little else we can do to bind another “Rouge” Holyrood…

Westminster we can do nothing about except to remember it absolutely will not stop trying to get control of the whole island! And it’s first best chance is in the early years post the Yes vote when they will have a fair few Scots who still actually want Westminster control over this land!!!

Agreed, Wales is significantly smaller than Scotland, but has more registered players. Ireland also Uk players In the team, including the captain.

Participation levels, coaching, facilities. funding and cultural relevance are all important factors, scotland political status is irrelevant, and claiming it would change the performance is just naive. Is this the Scottish cringe, blaming political status for our shortcomings?

Enjoyed a dreek afternoon at myreside for their minis tournament today, don’t think the kids where getting stressed by constitutional politics.

Disgusted to see the U.K. dis-honours system gave Jo Swinson a CBE.

Her CBE might as well stand for Cairns Beastly ‘Ed picture.

The LibDems don’t just lie their gerrymandered corrupt form of politics towards personal aggrandisement and a ministerial mondeo, they game the system to grab a big dose of seats in the House of Lords.

Sorry Chris, but I feel physically sick looking at that Dorian Gray type picture you drew of Jo Swansong. She is a self centred career politician who will sell all of her principles to get a ConDem coalition with the Tories and a job as a Deputy Prime Minister.

The sad thing is Jo Swindler will probably achieve that illegitimate aim and become Deputy Prime Minister within a few months. A more horrific thought than any cartoon could portray.
