Get Me Out Of Here, And Onto The Telly Again.

rosskemp

Please.

Okay, we’re going to need some help on this, readers. We know the first one is Ross Kemp, the man who loves Scotland so much that he thinks Glasgow is the most dangerous place on Earth. But we’re not Heat magazine subscribers and the rest are proving a bit trickier to pin down. Can you give us a hand?

bestfriend1

JK Rowling’s let herself go a bit in the last fortnight.

bestfriend3

Tim Nice-But-Dim.

bestfriend4

Former Minor EastEnders Character, we’re all but positive. Could be Brookside. But we haven’t actually watched any soaps since 1993, so we could be wrong on that.

bestfriend5

Aww. Not a clue, but he seems lovely, like a nice grandpa.

bestfriend8

Honestly not the foggiest.

bestfriend9

Drawing a blank. But he seems to have stopped “LAUJHING” now.

bestfriend6

Wait, we know this one. Richard… Attenborough?

bestfriend10

We’re guessing someone who was a big star for Cardiff Lions United.

bestfriend11

Hinge & Bracket, of course.

bestfriend12

EEK! SOMEONE CALL OPERATION YEWTREE!*

bestfriend2

Stay where? In America with you and whatever accent you’ve got today?

bestfriend7

And there’s Blair McDougall.

Next week: the unfunnier one out of Hale and Pace. (Which is to say, both of them.)

.

*Joke. We’re sure they’re NOT a paedo, whoever they are. NOT a paedo.

Dividing people into national groupings separate from other people is deeply uncivilised and has led to the worst wars in human history. So to create a new nation state is an anachronistic thing to do, though I’m a fan of devolution.”

“History is all about myths For example, this year – when the future of Scotland is being decided – is the anniversary of Bannockburn. But that battle was about two medieval, French-speaking warlords going at one another in a way and at a time and environment which has limited relevance to us today. And the idea of an ethnically pure Scottish side and ethnically pure English side attacking one another is absurd.”

Or will they, as Bitter Together never tire of telling us, be so disdainful of their erstwhile countrymen and women that they’ll be baying for border posts, and turn away wee sick kilted Scottish bairns from their hospitals, and bar the doors of their embassies to Scottish hordes wandering the globe, and annexe Faslane to protect “their” nukes and world peace and stop Putin or ISIS or FIFA or whoever else is bogeyman of the week, and not let us use “their” pound, and veto us getting into the EU and NATO and Eurovision and the Champions League AND the Olympics, and throw union jacks at Andy Murray if he dares show his sorry pasty Celtic face on the hallowed lawns of Wimbledon ever again, and then laugh at us all us sad subsidy junkies while we’re writhing on the floor like Renton in Trainspotting and they’re all lighting cigars with fivers in the New Jerusalem that will be here any day now, probably along with the jam tomorrow.

I don’t know who most of these sad sack so-called slebs are, but I know plenty of fantastic non-famous people in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and I don’t get the feeling their affection for us is so shallow. I think the vast majority will wish us well and take the opportunity of a seismic shift to liberate their own country. I think regardless of the political colour of future rUK governments they’ll be pragmatic and cordial and know which side their bread is buttered.

Abolishing of National Insurance tax and the destruction of universalism?

Withdrawal of support for the disabled and their carers?
Scotland paying for london;s sewer upgrade, Crossrail project for London, HS2, trident and much much more?
Being ridiculed for having contributed nothing to the success of the UK and sterling?

And out they trot, all the hoary bromides. World war 1, world war 2, the royal family, Olympics and celebrity bingo, telling us we are the jam in their their jelly roll, while Osborne plans to starve Scotland of its own money.

I do believe that the union is dead. I absolutely believe that Westminster is not fit to govern Scotland or be in charge of its economy. I don’t want the likes of Osborne or Balls deciding of the future spending of Scotland. I don’t want Cameron or Miliband speaking for Scotland abroad. I believe the current system as it stands, is a real and credible threat to the stability of Scotland and the UK.

The UK is going down a deep dark scary hole. I have seen no compelling reason as to why Scotland needs to tag along for the ride.

I’ve been otherwise busy the past few days (well, holidaying at some friends’ summer cottage by a lake…) but dipping into the Queen’s baton relay every now and then. For the scenery.

The baton relay is streamed live online world-wide by the BBC, except when there isn’t enough bandwith – which means the relay passes through the most spectacular scenery in the Highlands and other “remote” areas in a black tunnel…

Anyways, what I’ve noticed is that there aren’t that many flags along the route but what there are, Saltires outnumber Union Jacks maybe 100 to 1.

Yesterday, in Kilwinning, while the baton visited the church, there was this middle-aged lady just dying to open her UJ umbrella on the cameras but, alas, it wasn’t raining, and the polis shepherded her and her retinue back behind the cordon. The kids had UJs as well, but they also had Saltires, and the Saltires showed most on the live stream. 🙂

Later on yesterday the baton got to Stevenston and the streaming camera focused on a beautiful, waving Saltire – until they noticed that the Saltire had YES on it, after which the camera quickly turned to film the pavement…

Did our Ian Brotherhood have anything to do with that YES Saltire? 😀

Today I saw a couple of UJs, waved by well-turned-out elderly people by a bowling club in deepest, leafiest Giffnock.

But mostly, if there are flags, they’re Saltires. UJs stick out because they’re so rare. (The BBC live stream tries to focus on them, for balance.)

Maybe it doesn’t mean anything but it’s been great sharing Scotland’s scenery (barring poor signal 🙁 ) with my Finnish friends, and explaining about the Saltire and the UJ and all that.

The Commonwealth Games, of course, won’t be shown in Finland, they’re not important. The Finnish public broadcaster YLE showed every single World Cup game live even though Finland is not one of the world’s great footballing nations…

Commonwealth Games may get some highlights if good results are made in athletics. It’s a British Empire thing, not ours, and secondary to the Olympics anyway.

That said, I hope Glasgow has a great Games!!! And I hope Scotland has a great Games!!!

I love Barrowman managing to misquote Burns. I also love that the hashtag they all write at the end (#Let’s Stay Together) wouldn’t actually work, since it has punctuation in it.

Dan Snow says “together we’ve been world beaters”. I’m guessing he doesn’t mean in sport, since the UK doesn’t generally play as one team in team sports, plus he’s a military historian, so by his own admission he’s a bit obsessed with wars. So, “together we’ve killed people on a mass scale, and many of those countries are still years away from recovering from the damage we did to them”. Bit difficult to get on that sheet of card, admittedly.

Tony Robinson, one of the more recognisable faces, feels the need not only to say who he is, but to put the name of his most famous character part, in case we think he’s just some random weirdo drawing a neep in a kilt (yes Tony, a NEEP, not a turnip.)

Fiona Phillips says “Scotland is part of my family”. No we’re not.

Some idiot says “for our NHS”. Your NHS is already separate, numbnuts. And up the swanny, because you keep voting for the Tories.

However, what seems to make me laugh about this whole farce is that they seem to be at a total loss as to how they should handle us with this ‘….lurve bombing’

First, they put Obama, Clinton, Barroso, Van Rompuy and Putin in front of us and they got a mixed response (Obama and Clinton looked uncomfortable, the 2 Europeans grumbled and Putin asked if we wanted to join his federation which basically left Cameron looking like an arse) …so that didn’t quite work.
Then they went for the super big-guns …the ones who are kind of close to God in some ways; the Queen and the Pope. The Queen told Cameron to sod off, and the Pope just smiled. So …hmm …nope, still not working!
Third time lucky …eh No! They throw 3rd class celebrities at us with a ‘we love you, we love you’ attitude (ahhh! The Luvvies in other words) …but …nope, sorry guys, we’re still shaking our heads.

Mr Cameron, what fiscal responsibilities would Westminster be prepared to grant the Scots after a No?

Just been canvassing in Brunstane, Edinburgh – a lot of undecided but hopefully with the info supplied they will come over to the light side.

Someone mentioned on the doorstep that Police Scotland have told their staff that they are not allowed to discuss the referendum, even in private. Her relative was told this at work (but she did not say whether the message was relayed by email). She also said there was an article in the Daily Mail about this but – guess what – it’s not available online.

Has anyone else heard about this? Apologies if this is known about and has been mentioned elsewhere but I’m not aware of it and I read a fair amount.

Okay folks, lets take a look at ‘Let’s Stay Together’ shall we.

At the bottom of the home page it says Promoted by John Braggins 63-64 Margaret Street, London W1W 8SW.

From this address John Braggins runs bbm Campaigns a PR & Marketing company with the imprint ‘Campaign It’.

    http://www.campaignit.com/

“The ‘Campaign It!’ model can be applied to anything: it can underpin corporate strategies, change opinion, support individual career development, enhance personal growth or create social change.”

“Our Campaign It! model and our approach enables us to inform, persuade and gain agreement from others and we do this powerfully and positively to achieve success.”

I take it this is the beginning of the lovebomb strategy.

John Braggins: “John was Labour’s ‘secret weapon’ helping Labour win virtually every parliamentary by-election in the ten year period leading up to the Tony Blair landslide victory of 1997. He introduced and refined direct mail, telephone banks and the strategic use of out-door publicity.”

“John is an expert on local government, acting as Head of Local Government for Labour from 2000 to 2002 and then Senior Press Officer for the newly formed Greater London Assembly.”

“bbm was founded by Alan Barnard and John Braggins who first met in the late eighties when they were both working for the Labour Party, developing and refining new and better ways of campaigning. They were at the centre of Labour’s landslide victory in 1997 and then planned and directed the Scottish and Welsh referendums in 1999…

John remained at Labour to help plan the 2001 election campaign, before moving on to head the media operation for Labour at the Greater London Assembly.”

So now you know where JK Rowling’s big cash injection has went and why Better Together No Thanks UKOK keep asking for more cash. Like Scotland’s wealth it all goes to London into a big dark hole. This time a London-based PR Marketing strategist with strong Labour Party connections.

Along with the Tory-backed VoteNoBorders, which is situated not far away from ‘Let’s Stay Together’ you can see why THEY are Better Together, I wonder in which pub they meet up for the lunchtime chinwag.

But maybe the YES Saltire waver got his/her Saltire from you or your cohorts doing the good YES work in the area. When I saw it online in another country, I laughed outloud and thought of you because I know you’re from that area.

    As to celebrities.

Why do political parties or campaigns use celebrities?

It’s because they think voters are stupid.

It’s just a sign of the dumbing down of politics, or public life in general. Politicos think that if someone shakes her booty and asks to vote for their party, we, the voters, identify with the booty babe and vote the way they want.

Most voters are, thankfully, much too smart for that. Celebrity endorsements generate more ire than admiration/following unless the c’leb in question has actually done his/her homework and genuinely supports a cause.

Celebrities would be well advised to stay clear of any political campaigns unless they have actually looked at the facts and formed an informed opinion and feel strongly about it. Otherwise they end up looking like puppets and tits.

British nationalism was responsible for one of the largest empires in history, and yet there is no recognition of this from the British establishment itself. The amount of people who were killed by the British empire is staggering. Yet when they talk about nationalism in the referendum, you know that they are referring to Scottish nationalism because they normally say it with such contempt.

I’m afraid that Alexicon has been misled. There were no plans drawn up by Churchill or anybody else to abandon Scotland in the event of a Nazi invasion. This ‘fact’was invented in the Mail on Sunday on 24 March 2013 and repeated in the Daily Express the next day. This in turn was picked up by a number of blogs in the days following, including Wings over Scotland. The journalist misrepresented the research in my book, If Hitler Comes. It was clear that the main invasion was going to be in SE England and any German attack elsewhere would have been designed to draw the small British reserves away from the main invasion site.
The truth is that Scotland was garrisoned and that large-scale defences were built here: that’s what my book is about.

“Top “a” lister on my internet search was J K.

I shouldn’t need to point this out to you, Dear Lady. However, here goes. You are the perfect example of why the vast majority of commenter on these pages find the video hilariously comical.

You have totally missed the entire point and that loud whooshing sound that has puzzled you is the point passing, at very high speed, over your head. The point being the celebrity status of the person in the video is neither here nor there. In every single case the celebrity gives no reasoned points regarding the merits or demerits of the independence question.

I’ll put it even more bluntly for you, for you obviously are of the opinion the celebrity status of the , “Celeb”, is of paramount importance. If Jesus Christ himself were to resurrect and opine I should vote to not end the United Kingdom, (while showing him due respect), my first words to him would by, WHY?

Get it now? I will listen respectfully to anyone, from a homeless rough sleeper down on his/her luck to the Queen of Scots herself. That is if they offer their own personal reasons for a YES or NO vote.

However, “I’m a celebrity – do as I tell you”, gets my total disdain, is laughed at and made fun of.

The strange thing is that both sides of this idiotic propaganda campaign are being really stupid. The Butcher’s Apron is as much the Kingdom of Scotland’s flag as it is that of the Kingdom of England.

This highlights the fact that Westminster is the de facto Parliament of England, (the country), and not a separate United Kingdom Parliament. Westminster has, after all, divided the United Kingdom up as four countries but with only three of them with devolved powers.

It tells the true story that the referendum is indeed a Scotland vs England matter and in no way in reality is it Scotland leaving a still existent rUnited Kingdom. The true story is as told by David Mundell, Scotland, (and by extension both Wales and N.I.), were extinguished by Acts of Union that renamed the Kingdom of England the United Kingdom“. If that was not the Westminster Better Together view why is there no devolved Parliament of the Country of England?

Hi Stuart. No, not just a nicer way of saying the same thing – two different things:
    (1) the truth, the British high command wasn’t going to be tricked into sending its reserves in the wrong direction, risking losing the war;
    (2) the ‘factoid’ in its various guises – “Scotland would have been abandoned to the Germans in the event of a Second World War invasion” [Daily Express] or “Churchill had drawn up plans to abandon Scotland to the nazis if they had invaded Scotland first” [Alexon above] or “It has also recently been revealed through declassified documents that, had Scotland been invaded by Nazi forces in the Second World War, Scotland would have been abandoned militarily by the British.”[Newsnet Scotland] There are lots of these, all over the place and I am fed up being named as the person responsible for ‘revealing’ this ‘fact’.

The ‘factoid’ might fit with how people want to see things, but it’s not true. Scotland was garrisoned and had heavy defences and gun emplacements built round the coast and inland. There was never any suggestion that that garrison would be withdrawn – every area Command in Britain wanted more troops but there weren’t the troops with equipment and transport to give everyone what they wanted.
