Not quite sure who the Tories are trying to influence with their ‘idiot behaviour’.

This back stop plan is a non starter. Time limited and doesn’t deal with regulatory alignment. Cunningly refers to UK rather than just NI. Civil servants time and money was spent on this latest fiasco. A white paper produced.

They cannot possibly have believed the EU would be impressed with it.

Success, though! Another month wasted and another EU summit where there will be no significant progress. Everything delayed again. Can kicked further down the road. So all going to the cunning Tory plan. Exactly what the plan is, though, that’s the mystery.

Aye well I see Keith Brown has been elected depute, which probably puts the lie to the Herald article “Tom Gordon: SNP party conference may not go as smoothly as Sturgeon hopes”. Hopefully there will be a lot of agitation about Indy Ref 2, but if there was a real loss of contact with members, then Chris McEleny or Jill Hepburn would have been elected, as they “seem” to be keener on Indy Ref 2 than Brown.

Yet we’re still going through the neccessary steps, I still have confidence that Sturgeon is doing it right, and Brown is closest to what she will have to do.

As long as we do have Indy Ref 2 in time for Scotland to try after a YES vote to achieve some sort of transitional deal in the EU – single market and customs union at least – while PRESUMABLY having a second referendum on EU / EFTA / none membership, then he (and the SNP) have my full support. But they are under a microscope – no sliding allowed 🙂

We are now in our worst case scenario. May, thinking shou could obliterate Corbyn holds a GE and gets obliterated herself. Then, in a bid to remain “Strong & Stable” does a deal with the devil ie DUP.

Even I, who utterly despise the Tories, would rather have seen them negotiate Brexit with a majority, than see them negotiate Brexit dependent upon extremists from Northern Ireland.

Stormont won’t be sitting any time soon as other NI parties, rightly, assert that DUP are being favouritised.

The potential of negotiating ANY kind of deal whatever is hampered by the fact that DUP will block ANY kind of reasonable deal, these guys actually WANT a hard border.

To top it off, Boris, Jacob Rees Mogg and others all smell blood and are using the opportunity of a weak government in hock to DUP to promote themselves for high office and leadership. Agruably worse is the fact that none of them could negotiate their way out of a paper bag.

If we are still within the UK it will take 40 or even 50 years to recover from this. All the EU need do is sit and watch as the UK side tear themselves to pieces.

But what gets to me is this, in 2014 we put forward a detailed and well thought out plan for independence. Negotiation would have been with ONE country and we had everyone on the same page. This was rejected, and yet with no plan, no clear idea on what was being voted on and idiots leading the charge saw UK persuaded to vote leave?

The difference is the actions of government and that of the press in league with them.

Now that we are all heartily sick of the word Brexit aa it fills our news programmes daily, I can see that the Scottish public MAY be slightly put off from independence whilst negotiations are ongoing. Voting fatigue and negotiation fatigue also.

That said I hope I will see Independence in my lifetime, but the chances of being granted a vote again seem slimmer by the minute…

Sturgeon’s approval rating according to Yougov at -2 and it’s not surprising at all, in fact it’s a good sign it’s not lower. She’s treading a very difficult path through a minefield, albeit hopefully a dead straight one to Independence quite soon, but with the Indy grassroots having different views all over the place (rightly by the way), she’s going to be pissing off some people, and even not impressing others. While some NO voters will be with her I daresay, but others against whereas with the likes of the Smith Commission report wending its way through Westminster many might have supported her.

The game’s afoot, and has been since June 2016, and so far my own approval hasn’t wavered – but like others I watch like a hawk, just in case that dead straight path isn’t actually going where I presume it is 🙂

See Rule 5 of the comment rules:

Comment threads go off-topic. That’s okay. But posting about a completely different subject in the first few comments on an article is just mind-bogglingly rude.

If you have something totally unrelated that you really really have to say, either post it in an older thread or just bite your tongue for the four or five minutes it’ll take for there to be half-a-dozen on-topic comments.

    2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017

    Independence

    56 61 58 61 55 50 49 42 41
    No Parliament
    8 10 6 11 9 7 6 8 8

It’s, strangely, the “No Parliament” figure which, at 8% is as about average. With all the recent couple of years stramash with Westminster I did wonder if that would rise dramatically, and there was some other poll which seemed to have it at about 15% (and rising). But no, still the same 8% who want to abolish it, and I know from people that for some, maybe many, it’s too many politicians so who knows, some could be YES voters jsut to get rid of one layer of politicians.

I think it’s important though few probably would agree with me.

Well this Eurosceptic would crawl over broken glass to get independence, I have associates who support independence, like many they have reservations regarding Europe.

Not one of them would consider turning away from Independence, and we know of no one who would fail to support independence regardless of the EU question.

If anyone is not supporting independence over the EU issue I suggest they were never one of us …they are dyed in the wool loyal unionists…

Which is their choice but they shouldn’t suggest they are otherwise.

Reason I think that’s important, nay (neigh) vital, is that it means only 8% want to abolish Holyrood, but 92% want to keep it in one form or another.

Amongst many other sectors, our SNHS workers must be delighted that this is the start, or actually, continuance of this Scottish Government’s recognition and appreciation of their vital work.

BBC quite incapable of posting clips from the SNP conference to give a flavour of the debate. They opt for the headline:
SNP conference: Sturgeon announces ‘immediate’ NHS pay rise.
The “immediate” being in quotation marks as if it isn’t really immediate. But it will be in their July payment.

The BBC mention that Carla Ponsati was there but are quite incapable of providing a clip of Aamer Anwar’s very powerful speech. In fact, they don’t mention him at all.

To hear that you need to go to the SNP video of the afternoon speeches. They are all worth hearing. But for Kaylin McMahon and Aamer Anwer, scroll in for an hour. At 1 hour 20 you can hear these very powerful speeches and Clara Ponsati’s response.

So, here we are again, in the run up to a football world cup, and as usual, English (and England worshipping) journalists just want to know ONE THING, ‘Will Scots support England’.

Of course it is an exceptionally dim question to ask, but there is another aspect to it which few people ever highlight. Just why is it, that England so desperately want Scots to support their football team? Is it not somewhat pathetic for people in England to worry whether the people of another country will support them?

When other countries around the world fail to qualify for the world cup, do we see for example, Dutch Journalists scurrying around Germany or France asking political leaders if they will support Holland? Indeed do we see ANY other country in the world behave in that way? The answer is no.

This is a peculiarly English obsession. Scots do not ever worry if English folk will support them. Likewise for the Welsh and those from N.Ireland.

It is only England which does this. No other nation on the planet has such a frankly pathetic mindset.

That is part of the reason, that just for the record, I will notionally be supporting Iceland, and ANYBODY BUT ENGLAND.

Our reality is just a narrative, created by others. Elections are just a play with actors given roles. Scriptwriter, speechwriter, campaign manager – it all taps into archetypes buried in the collective unconscious.

Hillary and her Rainbow Coalition was … Dorothy with the Lion, the Tin Man and the Scarecrow – off to defeat the Mighty OZ … arm-in-arm trotting off to the Emerald City to free the munchkins
