They say things come in threes and today would appear to back that up.
1) At work this morning a previously undecided voter came upto me and said that I had won my bet and he was now voting yes. So what you might think, well my bet was that I wouldn’t convert him to voting yes, he would do convert himself over his holidays. To help him I gave him an Aye right business card and some links to No Scotland sites for balance. He spent the last two weeks reading online, he admitted he is a bit obsessed now, and decided on his own that the only sensibly thing to do was vote yes.
2) My wife, spent some time with Blair Jenkins this morning putting him right about the Yes campaign. If you have met my wife you would know that his ears must still be burning.
3) The Wee Blue Book is finally out, hurray. I have only had time to give the first couple of chapters a look, but I did spot a couple of issues: one spelling mistake; and in one sentence it looks like a word has been omitted.
For easiness, remember this:

@ IcySpark – I don’t think the time-scale is worth it, the book is out there now. We’d all do better engaging with folk than worrying about another version.
Word of mouth, writing it on a piece of paper,showing it on your phone ect. let people know where to find TWBB and it will expand, emailed to all i know texted to all i know told everyone i talked to yesterday, get it out there.

Not sure if I follow your comment but the point I was trying to make was that we know privatisation in general leads to reduced state spending (why else would you do it?), my point on TTIP is that it opens the market for further privitisation on England and could open the Market to privitisation in Scotland

It’s an interesting link to the Wood Review story concerning retrievable oil. Sir Ian Wood reckons 3-4 billion additional barrels over next 20 years ‘minimum’. That would be £200bl ‘additional value to UK economy’ says Ed Davies.
But at today’s prices the value of the oil would be 400bl. So the value to the economy he talks about I presume is extra revenue to the Treasury as Wings says (if tax is 50% per barrel). BBC have useful guide to how it breaks down: link to bbc.co.uk
But Sir Ian Woods says that if all his recommendations are implemented then 24bl barrels could be recovered. At today’s prices that is 2.4 trillion in value – not the 1.5 trillion commonly spoken about.
This is known reserves an no doubt they will be revised upwards as more result are released from west of Shetland and Scotland.

THAT IS UNHELPFUL SUB-EDITING.
There a TNS poll in tomorrow’s Record (link to archive.today) with YES 38%,No 46% Undecided 16%. The article, extracting from TNS comment, states:
“In all the TNS pre-referendum polling, one consistent theme is that the voters in Scotland are unhappy about the amount of information they have been given to help them make a decision.
The latest poll shows that even after months of debate and discussion and with only weeks to go until the vote, neither campaign has succeeded in giving a clear picture of what will happen after September 18.
Only 29 per cent say they have enough information about what will happen after a Yes vote and 36 per cent about what will happen after a No vote.”
So they are waiting for info as many have said.
Unhappy about information? No, that is an easy get-out from stating where you are.
At the Seafest in Arbroath, the Wings “I’m voting No…” leaflet was a godsend, stories to tell around the fire in days to come.

If you think anyone in a YES campaign has the slightest interest what Blair Jenkins does or doesn’t think when it comes to the materials they distribute, you have completely missed the point of the last 18 months.
I’m on the fence, but this document is vitriolic and scaremongering! Far worse than the other side!!
It also builds arguments on minor false premises, with conclusions that then lead to major errors of fact (often supported by selective references). A trivial example is the supposed fact that IP addresses won’t be able to identify users in Scotland, so the BBC won’t be able to charge for iPlayer like they do in Eire, implying that there will be no restriction on accessing BBC programming.
In fact It is relatively trivial, even now, to geolocate based on IP addresses with reasonable accuracy, and will be even easier and more precise with the changes to Internet that will be require after independence. And even easier still when the new IP system, currently being rolled out, is fully in place.

Seems reasonable to ask if they would help with distribution of WBB. Their material may be worthless but their distribution is undoubted.

Has any progress been made on producing quantities of the print version of the Wee Blue Book? I have a quote from a printer for £1.60/copy for an order of 1000, but that still seems expensive and it will take 7 working days with payment upfront. Perhaps investigations have been made for larger quantities at a reduced price; we’d be willing to contribute several hundred pounds to that endeavour. Since we’re going door-to-door anyway in our area (Glasgow), what could be better than offering a copy of the Wee Blue Book for a quiet, thoughtful read.
I’ve added a couple of PDF templates for easy home printing. link to petsfuryes.org has 4 pages per A4 and link to petsfuryes.org is 4 pages per A4 with 2 pages inverted for reverse printing. Can be stapled easily on left.
I have downloaded a copy to my smartphone and when I go out canvassing, if anyone wants a copy I can bluetooth it to them. 3MB so not sure how long it will take but as that is the same order of size as a photo, probably just a few seconds.
I am out of the country and would like to find a way to have some copies of this printed and mailed to friends and family.
Does anyone know a site/service that can do this, the Royal Mail mailshot service is limited to 1 A4 page.

Why does this blue book contradict itself regarding debt?
Sort of. In 2011-12, for example, Scotland generated
roughly £57bn in tax and had £64.5bn spent on it. But
that extra spending isn’t a generous gift from the UK
– it’s borrowing, taken out by the UK government in
Scotland’s name. It’s not money from the rest of the UK,
it’s money from international banks – it becomes part
of the massive debt referred to above, and Scotland
has to pay it back. In other words, in just one year Scotland had to
take on an extra £3bn of the rest of the UK’s debt,
as well as all of its own.
But, it then goes on to say later….
Q: “But if Scotland didn’t accept any of the UK’s national
debt, wouldn’t it be punished by the international
markets? Why would anyone lend Scotland money?”
A: Because it’s not Scotland’s debt. Scotland had no
say over it being taken out – it’s the UK government’s
debt, the UK decided where to spend it and the UK
has already accepted full liability for it [135]. If you’re
living in a rented flat and the landlord defaults on his
mortgage, YOU don’t get a bad credit rating

It doesn’t. We point out that the debt is “taken out by the UK government in Scotland’s name”. It’s LEGALLY the UK’s debt, as the UK has admitted. By “its own” in the other paragraph we simply mean the money that was spent in Scotland, as opposed to the debt Scotland has to pay for but which was actually spent elsewhere.
I’ve been following this campaign for some time now (as someone of mixed English/Irish/Scots heritage with no real bias towards either side) and I have to say this could be the game changer they keep banging on about. It is a remarkable document that deserves widespread consumption. It may not be impartial but it does set out a convincing argument for YES. It’s concise, yet covers all of the main points in enough detail.
We can’t predict fully how independence would change society, but I don’t see why it has to be about fear. You’ve still got work to do to win this, but it’s definitely all to play for.

Also why does the wee book not cover currency taking on the Euro, is there a contingency for this? I’ve yet to see a single person say they want this.

Really enjoying reading this. I’m a strong Yes but like to read up for ammunition when arguing with No’s and Don’t Know’s. Just wish there were fewer references to Wikipedia. I know there’s a lot of good info and reliable references included but, from experience, people who aren’t yes are keen to pick holes in the argument and Wikipedia maybe isn’t the best way to bring them round.

Hi there. I have ordered 5000 of the business cards promoting the Wee Blue Book and I will be distributing them around Edinburgh and possibly the Lothians. Does anyone have any idea where the areas of undecided or loose No voters are? I’d love to be able to target these areas for its obvious benefit.
Did you all see on TV news Ian Wood’s comments on Scotlands oil, it lasted several minutes , Professor Kemp’s reply which was coming to the point of being critical of Mr Woods comments lasted seconds. Prof Kemp has far more knowledge what has happened and is happening in Scottish waters relating to oil production and exploration than anyone else, why don’t the media consult him more? Could it be they don’t want us to hear what he has to say.

Is there any update on WBB availability? We await 1000 and I know you are overwhelmed hence no response to emails.

Agree with Will McEwan. Many of us also sent donations and asked for 1000 to distribute to don’t knows based on canvass returns.We had been intending to deliver our newspaper along with a leaflet we had printed directing people to WBB online AND offering hard copy for those who didn’t like web or were not online.
We could wait no longer and did not want to offer hard copies in case we did not receive any WBB’s and thereby disappoint so with absolutely no updates from Wings (and we know the workload is stupendous)our newspaper went out to thousands without WBB leaflet. Opportunity missed. We have one further major delivery before 18 September, so here’s hoping we get some form of update or better still, WBB’s.

I am aware of all that.
I did however ask for WBB as soon as the idea was mooted, we contributed to the cash appeal, we run a hugely busy YES centre in a large Scottish town, the second biggest in the Scottish Highlands (and also share most materials with another one in Rothesay) and have done so every day for a few weeks short of two years and I have no idea why I am receiving no response whatsoever to any enquiry.
We had hundreds of enquiries last weekend as it was Cowal Games with an estimated 10,000 visitors to the town.
All I need to know is where we go to get a share
@DaveMcEwan Hill if you have anyone coming to Glasgow in the next few days we can give you a few hundred to keep you going until you get more.

Just got my dozen WBBs delivered, told the postie what they were, she asked where I got them. Asked her if she wanted a couple, which she did. Referred her to the WoS website, which she is now going to check out. She’s voting Yes, but knows some people who are not sure. WBB will help with that, I tell her.
She’s going to take on to the Royal Mail depot where she works too 😀

@Cod – our postie came to the door this morning and knocked so that we would answer and have a chat (he likes our “Yes” display 🙂 ). Seems that his new employer (privatised posties ltd – or whatever they call themselves now) are keen on sacking anyone for even the slightest misdemeanour.
He’s even more pissed off at his union who have just sent through a leaflet and letter stating that they must all vote “NO”. He was on his way back to the office to resign from the union, along with virtually all of his colleagues.
Just wondering if this is a common feeling amongst posties up here.

I’m pretty sure that telling people what they have to vote in your union is illegal. Maybe you should get a copy of the letter and see who might be interested in posting it….perhaps Stu, if it actually does say they have to (as opposed to “you have to vote No or the country will fall down or something”, which is nonsense but expected).

The recommendation to vote NO was, apparently taken at a national union conference where there were only FOUR Scottish reps present and the vote was overwhelmingly carried by English votes (reverse West Lothian issue). I suppose the letter and leaflet were spawned there.

Did about a third of my beat today. Very encouraging. I was knocking doors as well as dropping newspaper and WBB leaflet.
OK most folk at work, but so encouraging, didn’t find a single No or undecided, all Yes (about a dozen). Even more encouraging was when I asked them if they knew anyone who was undecided they nearly all said ‘No, everybody they knew was a Yes’. I did get two or three to take a WBB who said they would ask around until they got someone who was undecided or a soft no.
Meanwhile our canvassing teams are targeting all known undecideds in Kirrie with WBB deliveries.
Hopefully the leaflets will identify some undecideds we don’t know about and they will pick up WBBs in the shop.

Volunteers in Kirrie and elsewhere in Angus undertook a mass canvassing program over the last 6 months organised by Graeme Dey msp for his entire constituency (including Forfar, Arbroath etc.). A list of undecideds was made up from that data and it is they who are being revisited and offered WBBs. This work was carried out not just by SNP activists but other indy groups and non aligned pro indy individuals as well.
What I did for my patch in Kirrie to try to enable a last minute self targeting element is to print off the following leaflet which is getting delivered with the YES newspaper.
It is worded to try to motivate people by making them wonder if they are adequately informed. If they are interested enough to visit the shop and pick up a book I think you can almost guarantee they will be Yes converts.
WBB distributors should try to work from any such similar list available from local SNP folk. But that should be automatically available via their Yes shop team.
But some kind of leaflet like the above may pick up e.g. recent No to undecideds etc. Every little helps.

that looks like a very good idea. We don’t have a Yes shop in Troon (I did try to get the team interested a few month ago but hey, horse, water, etc.) but, we do have a regular Saturday stall where there is a LOT of information available and that’s where we are currently trying to identify undecided folks and pass on the WBBs.
I’m absolutely against a random stuff-them-through-letter-boxes approach, which is what our local SNP lad seems to think is a great idea. Currently having a heated e-mail exchange with him.
Life (and time) is far too short.
Your flyer looks very good and I think I might run off a ream or two of our own version on A5, with another wander round the doors to stuff THEM through letter boxes very soon.

We’ve had a lot of very generous donations from folk – special thanks to Elaine and Ivan McKee for their help – and while we’ve had a good chunk sent over, we’re planning on using WBB specifically in re-canvassing undecideds in the area. That will involve hundreds of definite deliveries. The No Campaigners have started mobilizing in great force, Sarwar’s No Bus has been sighted in Port Glasgow, Alisdair Darling invaded the Beacon, and George Galloway took the Town Hall tonight. It really is starting to feel like a war – “the enemy are everywhere!” 😛
As such, I’m deeply wary of ever saying we have “enough” of anything – we’ve already run out of badges, flags, White Papers, and lanyards. Some of our volunteers don’t even have lanyards (I don’t), so I’m going to stick my neck out and say “yes, if you can spare any WBBs, we WILL use them.”

I’m in Glasgow and don’t have extra books at the moment. However, your idea of giving WBBs to YES households is a good one. We’ve been doing that the last couple nights, giving extra WBBs to households with YES posters in their windows and asking them to pass the books on to Undecideds and soft Nos they know. As the WBB is a handful to print yourself, and because it is difficult to just hand over a URL and hope it will be visited, I wondered if a short taster with the link on might be a hook to get people to visit the online versions. You may already be considering the idea, but just in case you haven’t, I feel that a ‘Wee Blue Book GE2015’ would be a good and powerful project to consider.
Rather than being pro-indy per se, I’d suggest it should look in detail at the key issues for Scotland, and the background of each constituency.
General topics – Core issues to bear in mind in GE
– the ‘ Vow’ and holding WM to account
– NHS
– Barnett Formula
– Pensions
– Wars
– Welfare
Specific issues relating to each constituency:
– Analysis of the record of sitting MP – good, bad, indifferent
– Voting record of sitting MP on core issues such as NHS, Tuition Fees, – Bedroom Tax, Trident, Welfare Caps, Immigration, etc
– Record of expenses claims by sitting MP
– Look at background a record of competing candidates, with recommendation of candidate most likely to oust sitting MP
Then print it out in 1,000s and distribute as before.
I’d be happy to donate my few wee pennies left after last year’s efforts to this sort of project.

£1.2Billion in debt. Borrowing and spending like there is no tomorrow wasting public money on grotesque monstrosities no one wants. Ruining the City Centre. The City could have been pedestrianised for £20Milion. Along with a £80Million Gift. Refused. A project supported by the majority. Instead £500Million spent without a mandate. Essential services cut,
Universal credit is being introduced in the City. They could be trying to cover their back at the possible outrage and hardship.
Wales voted to leave the EU. Some areas receive the most in EU investment/benefits. They are under funded by the UK Gov, They were conned and lied to.
A new Wee Book may be required very, very soon.
