I read recently – someone had done the sums – bank bailouts after 2008 would pay Jobseekers Allowance for 230 years.
I have a stack of books on my desk about tax havens, tax avoidance, and money laundering. All of them are about the UK, specifically London.
These spivs are presiding over the biggest transfer of wealth from the populace to the wealthy in the history of mankind.

It’s time for their last easy victim, feeding them with billions stolen from our natural resources and wasted in eternal warfare, to scroll these parasites off its back.
Scottish Independence will starve the leeches, and they will fall off, empty and withered.

Our poorest living now under this Tory government are at the poorest they have ever been since the welfare state was created more than 70 years ago.
A great many people in Scotland have nothing to eat tonight, absolutely nothing, those that are sanctioned have no money at all in their pocket or purse and are relying on foodbanks, family or friends to help them out and prevent them and their children living with hunger.
Many of their family and friends have absolutely nothing either and this is a problem resulting in broken marriages, depression and suicides. The welfare state has been destroyed under this Tory rule since 2010 and by Blair/Brown before them. There is no longer a “safety net” and any of us could end up in the same boat.
Our disabled are losing their motability cars and many are having to find new roofs over their heads since being subject to the Bedroom Tax and having their housing benefit cut meaning they could no longer afford the rent. This is the policies of only the most cruel, they have no heart and no shame. Sociopaths.
The Scottish government have mitigated as best they can against these Dickensian policies while the Scottish block grant under the Barnett formula is being slashed by Westminster over many years now. That is a fantastic achievement, why so many fail to see this is as a result of our media. The bastards.
I’ve never been a member of the SNP nor even voted for them until the GE in 2015. I’m glad I have done so and will continue to do so until Scotland gains Independence or I die first, they are the only party trying to alleviate the real suffering that our poorest and disabled are facing in a Tory ruled Britain led by the self appointed elite.
The SNP are the only party that will free us from the tyranny of a Tory government that robs the poor to reward the rich. Did anyone really expect May to follow through on her promise to crack down on the “fat cats”? If so, then you have been deluded. The only cracking down that is set to continue is on welfare and the NHS in order that our rulers can gain even more. Vampires.
We will all suffer as a result of policies such as these, for Scotland a vote for Independence is the only escape possible.
Free us from this tyranny by voting for Independence. SAY IT LOUD!

If the latest United Nations report, which outlines that the Tories have created a human catastrophe in the UK due to their welfare reforms, doesn’t have impact on these monsters nothing will.
Meanwhile I’ve just been reading the National article ‘Ministers urged to back £5 child benefit top up’. Sorry can’t post as I’m on my IPad.
It reads Scottish ministers are coming under renewed pressure to use new Welfare powers to top up child benefit by £5 and help take 30,000 children out of poverty.
The Catholic Church has joined with the Church of Scotland, the Child Poverty Action Group and Sir Harry Burns the former Chief Medical Officer of Scotland to back the ‘Give me Five’ campaign which launches nationally tomorrow………
However the Scottish Government says it would cost about a quarter of a billion pounds to implement and only £3 out of every £10 would go to the households in poverty.
The SG’s own most recent statistics suggest that there are now more than 260,000 children living in relative poverty, after housing costs – about a quarter of all Scottish children. The majority in homes where the adults are working.
And then comment after comment from Bishop this or that and the results of a Survation poll, such as two thirds of Scots are in favour of Holyrood increasing child benefits. Then there’s four paragraphs of Kezia Dugdale bleating on about the situation. The SG should use their powers and stating as one example that “the rise in the number of youngsters living in poverty should “shock” the Scottish Government into increasing child benefit payments. Scotland should be the best place in the world to live, work, grow up and grow old in – and that starts with a fairer country. There’s more from her but you get the gist.
The SG point out massive Westminster cuts since 2010, mitigating the worst of Welfare reforms etc. Bottom line as far as I can see is that the SG doesn’t have the resources to deal with this and Kezia Dugdale is a despicable wee BritNat *rse that constantly puts her party before the people. There’s more to say about her and her party but I’d better leave it until I calm down.

Tam the Bam – I’m of an age when living in rural Scotland we only had ‘plain bread’
I remember my mother making sandwiches for visitors, she’d pile the whole lot together then saw off the crusts with her big bread knife – wholesale yummies for kids. (every crust having a wee bit something from the prepared sandwich)
So there are perhaps 4 aspects of Independence – internal to Scotland, the rest of the UK, the EU and the Rest of the World. And to get the YES vote people have different priorities, but all have to be addressed in a way.
The rest of the World is the easiest, yes we’ll trade with the rest of the world and play our part in global politics. The second is harder because of the leavers, and the case does have to be made for the EU if it’s to be part of Independence. There’s a lot of misinformation and that has to be tackled. Meanwhile Scotland is set to be dragged out of it, whether we want to, or not. And then we’d have to set up our own trade deals if we’re not in the EU. Or have a lesser load of trade deals via EFTA, or just plain old unfavourable and complicated WTO. Which, for some extraordinary reason, seems to be what the UK would settle for.
The rest of the UK – and do we really want to continue a relationship with Westminster where we are bound by what they do, rather than look on as a neighbouring country, that’s tackled by this sort of article, and the Tories are definitely our best allies in this! They just can’t help themselves, it’s in their genes to be arrogant, cruel and merciless. We’re peasants, they’re the lairds. We’ll just dig up that field for them when they want us to, and they’ll pay us IF they want to, Otherwise go and eat wild mushrooms, tree bark, who cares? Let there be cake.
Before the last, there’s our interaction with the rest, and that’s currency and the central bank. Well, we have to hope that one’s being sorted, it ain’t rocket science. I mean, seriously it ain’t, even I understand it.
So finally our economy. Is it GERS? What some of us said back in the day was that the best thing the SNP majority Government could do is – Govern. To show that a capable government could look after Scotland, even with limited tools and devolution.
Things like the NHS, schools, universities, police and fire are mostly revenue DEL – that’s that part of the block grant. There’s capital DEL for all, a new hosptial, schools, but the within the limits of revenue DEL, there’s not much can be done about any of them – there are costs, they ahve to be paid, and that’s that.
But for the economy itself what can be done? Well, there’s APD which halving of will increase flights to Scotland and make business more competitive. Hop on a city hopper and go to London, Frankfurt, Paris, do some busines, come home. Then there’s trains,, well, even Network Rail have an ambitious improvement plan in place as part of the Scotrail alliance, as do Scotrail themeslves.
But hey, we now have a bloody great new fabulous bridge (I built) connecting Fife and Angus, and the east coast, there’s motorway all the way from Glasgow to Edinburgh for the first time ever, the A9 is getting dualled and a new section opened, and guess what? The SNP are telling us about it:

O/T this article in the National today was good. Why is called the ‘Battle of Tranent’ and not the ‘Tranent massacre’ which it actually was? Another example of the distortion of our history. Its good that theres a memorial in Tranent though.

Don’t forget, as Macart pointed out in his National article, that has to be ratified by the UK Parliament, and receive Queen’s assent, leaving time for a snap Indy Ref to be held, and the EU asked to give us transistion time. That’s all that’s needed to counter that one.

Petra – Just read your post and by f/k the the brass neck and hypocrisy is beyond belief from Dugdale, her party down south who assisted the Tory party in passing the legislation that has led to these cuts, Then without batting an eyelid and at no time showing any sense of shame or Embarrassment she calls for the magic bloody money tree to finance out of thin air anything that comes to mind , she’s lining up behind her representatives of various churches to aid her, this while blatantly hiding the true story of her parties involvement , how low can this Labour Party in Scotland sink , trying to build up trouble to embarrass the Scottish Government on the back of a downright lie is disgusting and despicable , Then again its Labour in Scotland should we be surprised.

Should the Scottish government try and mitigate Westminster policies or should they let Westminster policies apply on the grounds the people voted to have London run their affairs to get on with it.
They can only be mitigated with independence.

No it doesn’t, but thanks for the opportunity to expand.
The Scottish Parliament can call a Referendum, and even if the Presiding Officer objects it’s not in the scope of parliament, he can be removed by a vote in parliament and a new one elected by majority vote.
Then the only way to stop that referendum legally is a court challengem in the Court of Sessions.
Meanwhile the UK Parliament somehow manages to get its vote past the DUP and Labour, LibDems and the SNP and rebel Tories to boot, but that is challenged in court by – the Scottish Government. So two related court cases, cases that relate to the UK Constitution itself.
And according to the wording of the Article 50, it has to be carried out according to the member state’s constitution. But that is a subject of court hearings IN the member state, so the EU can not accept the finalisation of Article 50 withdrawal of the UK, until that is resolved.
So, what a pickle the UK finds itself in. Pass the popadums.
Did I forget to mention the CJEU (ECJ)? The UK of course is still a member of the EU at that point, and fully subject to the ECJ. Now that could take years …
meanwhile the UK is unable to make trade treaties of its own, as it’s still a member of the EU,and any such trade deal could, yes, end up in court.

I guess Corbyn was not best pleased to find hardly anyone anywhere to see him and to find out (presumably briefed by SLab) that all the stuff he had been telling the SNP to do had already been done. Not to forget the little matter of the impractitude of Scot’s law!

Always thought Kez was landed in a position above her experience and possibly ability. She rarely looked comfortable and flip/flopped too often to have instilled confidence in any intelligent supporters and she had a bad habit of digging deeper when she was down a hole.
There will now be an unseemly scrabble and back-stabbing among those who have coveted her job but have been too feart to attempt a coup.
Strangely enough the EBC seem to have been ready for her announcement with her ‘obituary’ all ready to dust down, dot some Is and cross some Ts and publish in minutes whereas it usually takes them hours to come out with a full story.
Her dad must be relieved now that she has taken herself out of the firing line.

Kelly or Baillie would certainly provide entertainment but I am thinking that it will be a Corbynista. That most likely candidate has to be Findlay who is incapable of rising above the tribal and isn’t desperately nimble of thought or media friendly.

She had to know that Scots were at the very least better off out with this bloody Union,and,at most were suffering for still being a part of it.
Has she stood by…it would have been bad enough….but she enthusiastically did her up most to keep the Treaty enforced.
Now because I can remember another woman who found the dry docking of a boat more emotional than any human tragedy.
I don’t think that it’s too cynical to assume that it was not justifying austerity that was a bridge too far…..but rather claiming credit for a bridge that was a bridge too far?

Even so…. it’s the impression that she gives that leads me to believe that she has nae honour…and I canny welcome that.

As for the Kezia one resigning , I agree with Liz – she has done her best to undermine , she has done nothing to help those in need in fact she has blatantly hindered. Yet she wants to claim the good bits.( did you iron that T shirt??)
Would it not be wonderful if the person taking over had a wee brain and a sense of fair play ? Or has that all but vanished from the political opposition?
