I really don’t know whether to laugh or cry at this! What is evident in the last few days is that the establishment is absolutely petrified of the SNP having any role in supporting UK Labour in govt.

Everything will be done to get the Tories re-elected down south, and as for Labour in Scotland, the voters are not being fooled for a second time-they will get punished.

Regardless of how many seats the SNP wins, remember that these voters will transfer smoothly over to Holyrood 2016, and Labour will be completely killed off electorally by a combination of SNP and other smaller pro-indy parties. We are making history folks.

You have to admit that the “money men”(Neoliberals)and their political poodles at Westminster have done a great job in convincing the people of England that austerity is a good thing. The safe and prudent way forward.

Hard to believe that we have a Labour leader selling a policy that will hurt those in greatest need the most.

The LibDems now want to talk about the middle way but have spent the last 5 years supporting cuts which target the poor, increase the need for foodbanks and put more and more children into poverty.

I feel sorry for those people who voted NO and are just coming to terms with what they did.

Bankers gambling support / Military posturing / personal greed in pronotion of an ever increasing gap between the Rich and Poor.

Are we really going to continue this union behaving like an Empire regardless of the impact on society?

Worthy of another pointless complaint to the BBC.

There must be some form of structural difficulty in the electoral system if, through a fair democratic process, Armageddon can be a result.

It seems the BBC want the electorate to acquiesce with Deutsche Bank’s commands. I’m not entirely sure that’s the type of country we’re trying to create in Scotland, so it might be possible the BBC are out of sync with the Scottish people – surely not!

    From our-Scotland web site.

German Banker Exposed as Best mate of David Cameron
David Folkerts-Landau, Chief Economist of Deutsche Bank, who has claimed that Scotland would have a “Great Depression” if independent, has a second home he bought for US $11.6 million dollars. His first home is in London – where he would have been well-placed to notice that Deutsche Bank was at the very heart of the LIBOR interest rate fixing scandal. Naturally neither Folkerts-Landau (he and his wife are friends of the Camerons) nor any other senior banker was jailed for that long term criminal illegality.

Armageddon risk, eh. Pretty sure the four horses of war (Trident & Iraq), famine (benefit sanctions), pestilence (erosion of the NHS) and death (Jim Murphy in fancy dress robes) are all on the other side of the table.

This is economically illiterate in so many ways. 0.5% growth in investment is not “throwing austerity out the window”. The market won’t “turn against the government”. The market only turns in one direction: towards an opportunity. If we invest in infrastructure, the market will turn towards engineering and building. If we stop benefit sanctions and invest in healthcare, the market will turn towards local businesses and medical supplies.

What the worshippers of THE MARKET seem to want us to believe is that the market is just and only the financial services and banking sectors of the market, and if they are in any way displeased or their privileged position is in any way traduced, they will take their ball (i.e. ALL THE MONEY) and go elsewhere.

This is, in a word, shite. ALL THE MONEY is the wealth of the nation, and that wealth is not made of numbers in a computer, but labour, mineral and energy resources, intellectual property, agricultural capacity, and so on, and so on. It’s not their ball to take home, it’s a distributed overlapping collection of many, many balls.

Our ball is our vote. We are taking THAT home, so fuck them.

For what it’s worth, my money’s on the Tories winning most seats. As party in power, that gains them time to recruit confederates from other parties for another ‘coalition’ which only an SNP landslide can block.

hmmm….the entire global banking sector, especially HSBC, also a prominent objector to Scottish independence. I wonder if there is a connection?

In the UK, while the rich escaped to Switzerland and the Caymens, the benefits of the poor were cut “to balance the budget.”

In this sense, the greatest scandal of our times is systemic in nature and rests upon the wholesale transformation of the world economy over the past four decades. With the onset of financialization in the 1970s, the international banking system began to act like Galeano’s magnifying glass: grossly amplifying pre-existing inequalities and inverting reality in the process. In the first instance, the system sucks up billions in interest and tax money from below. Starting with the bankruptcy of New York City in 1975 and the Mexican debt crisis of 1982, austerity became the principal means to effect a historically unprecedented redistribution of resources from the bottom to the top.

Interesting article in the Economist where the author argues that a Labour government – supported by the SNP – would be more destructive for the union than a Conservative one: https://archive.today/69JVx
    – They claim that this is on the grounds of it building increasing resentment of Scotland by the English – who they presume would not support SNP policies. They neglect to consider those English who would might agree to support Scottish independence in return for SNP having influenced labour into supporting greater democracy. Either way – I think there is panic going on when this issue is contemplated.

One more question. Why did you say the biggest party ‘usually’ forms the government?

Because for all the obsession with opinion polls, what will matter in the final analysis is not who gets the most votes or most seats, but who can form a government.

It’s very possible, for instance, that the Conservatives will have the most seats on 8 May, but will be unable to muster enough support from other parties to get over the magic 326-seat line.

That’s why many think the potential for SNP backing actually puts Miliband in a stronger position than Cameron going into the vote – regardless of what the polls say.

If they refuse to listen or do their usual thing and gang-up on us then our second option would be to do an Ian Smith and walk-out with a unilateral declaration of INDEPENDENCE.

I agree that devolved oversight of the media, not control as some are espousing, is a key issue. This is not a vote winner at this stage. Those of us who see through the bias will not be changing our vote. Those that have yet to see through the bias will claim it is an attempt to “control” the media. The Westminster parties would beat us to death with an issue we don’t need to raise. I’m getting a bit sick of hearing about “the markets” as the raison d’être for every dodgy decision or questionable choice. The markets don’t seem to mind when money goes upward in ever increasing quantities, exacerbating inequality. They seem to represent nothing more than the distilled force of collective human greed, demanding untrammelled influence in every aspect of our decision making process.
At what point do we say that people are more important than the accumulation of money? Does such a point even exist among the world’s “financial elite”

You better believe the bankers first loyalty is to their own best interests, followed by the bank’s best interests and the Neo Liberal’s best interest next. Now consider that to grow the former interests requires they obtain funds and they have no skills whatsoever at producing any goods or any non-banking services.

Their only sources of funding must come either from the workers, the poor or from other bankers. Thus the rich get richer and the poor get children Err! poorer.

I received an election communication from Mr Harris. His pledges include “We will provide the Scottish Government with enough money to give £1600 support to every 18 and 19-year-old who doesn’t go to college or uni.” He is campaigning for better bus services, for the right of parents to have bereavement leave if their child dies, for the end of sanctions on benefit claimants and for 1000 extra nurses.

In 24pt script (used in Primary 2 reading books to help children read), he exhorts voters “to make Scotland prosper as one of the most successful and strongest devolved nations in the world”. How anyone equates success with the growth of food banks is beyond me. Perhaps Mr Harris thinks (hopes?) that the electorate has the cognitive functioning of six year olds.

Robert Peston speaks as if Armageddon is a future event, when in fact, as he well knows, it happened in 2007/2008, if not sooner. With the creation of Mortgage Backed Securities and their grossly irresponsible and extensive use by the gambler bankers in the American sub-prime market, the fuse on Armageddon was lit.

We are still living with the subsequent explosion and ongoing devastation which is clearly far from over. It is this event which the politicians, and the rich, are still striving to survive intact – at the expense of everyone else.

And so the game continues. Blind the public with lies; take their money behind their backs; massage the electorate with promises and assurances – rather like tickling a trout – and then after they have voted, put the knife in their belly, gut and fillet them – job done for another five years.

The BBC – the great British Broadcaster, keeping the British public abreast of the unfolding Armageddon while safeguarding the integrity of the United Kingdom – and the band played ‘Nearer my God to Thee’.

We have reached a stage in our history when the biggest crime in these islands is to tell the truth. That’s why Nicola is ‘the most dangerous woman in Britain’.

Armageddon isn’t over, but there is a way, one way, of avoiding what is yet to come, and that is Independence.

    And there’s more:
“You’ll see in our manifesto just how we’ll spend this money. That’s a decision for the Scottish Labour Party and no one else.”
So here’s the deal. The Slabs, I guess both the WM and Holyrood variety, are going to have their own budget to administer in Scotland.

Catastrophising Scottish Independence yet again- it’s a common theme.
Perhaps we could look to Norway- another very small nation that’s endured their own version of Armageddon- a massive natural energy resource in their own backyard. Norway clearly had incompetent economists advising their hapless government who managed to create a sovereign wealth fund from North Sea oil production that accrues benefits not only for the current generation of Norwegians but future generations. They have an agreement to limit the annual spend on their oil fund to 4% and as such their spending out of the fund has been equal to the real return in recent years- what a calamity.
If UKOK had followed Norway on the same path to Armageddon the UK would have an sovereign wealth fund of £350 billion as a % of national income. But it doesn’t exist-given the amount of money WM have spent on economic advisors & economic think tanks everyone in UKOK should be asking why.
Meanwhile the current policies of WM is to sell off state assets- shrinking the net worth of the state and ensuring that for future generations the current economic policies will be a vehicle for maintaining intergenerational inequality.
Protecting the state, acknowledging the positive contribution of the welfare state to economic performance and maintaining the markets are not mutually exclusive- smaller economies understand this-their version of Armageddon would serve an Independent Scotland well.

As events this week show, he’s just one more liar or maybe creepy Jim will decide UK budget.

Harris is one of many job for lifers that think we all live in a parallel universe. He tells BBC shill today he really does not know why Slabour are polling badly but look at how he strongly voted for war against Iraq.

These guys go way beyond local electioneering fibs and attack buffoonery. They think their arses are covered by a deeply corrupt BBC or, where is the Chilcot Iraq report, or teamGB civil servants will nod and wink and tap noses for them and maybe they really can creep back in for another round of when likes of Jacky Bird and Gordon Brewer say jump Scotland, you ask how high.

Ah yes, I remember. 5 days before the Ref, Deutsche Bank compared Scotland going Independent to the “Great Depression”. My comment was this:

    —————————-
To put this in context, from May in the Herald, a report from Deutsche Bank:

    [url]

“Global exchange giant Deutsche Bank: indyref Yes would be negative for sterling”

“”When it comes to the impact on the financial markets, we suspect that the period of uncertainty during the negotiation phase that a Yes vote would generate would be negative for both gilts and sterling.”

It added: “Political uncertainty during the negotiation period is likely to be negative for the currency, with the scale of this depending on what monetary policy option Scotland eventually plumps for.

“A sterling currency union may prove the least negative, as it leaves the size of the economy covered by sterling the same and a formal agreement could help reduce the political risk premium.”

That was worry about the rest of the United Kingdom, so is it possible that the recent drop in sterling has not only proven that uncertainty causes problems, but that it could be worse than thought? Osborne and Carney (BoE) are cutting short the G20 summit to be around the day after the Referendum in case of a YES vote.
    ——————————————-

The Deutsche Bank Sterling warning can be found on the Herald by seaching for “Global exchange giant Deutsche Bank: indyref Yes would be negative for sterling”

Just done a little more checking on David Folkerts-Landau, who wrote that rubbish about the Great Depression. He spent a lot of time in London, but here’s interesting from wiki: “David Folkerts-Landau was born in north-west Germany and at 14 years old was sent to a Scottish boarding school. He is reported to maintain links to his birthplace”.

I think that says it all regarding any “impartiality”.

Sir Oswald Ernald Mosley, 6th Baronet[n 1] /?zw??ld.?mo?zli/ (16 November 1896 – 3 December 1980) was an English politician, known principally as the founder of the British Union of Fascists (BUF).[1] He was a Member of Parliament for Harrow from 1918 to 1924, for Smethwick from 1926 to 1931 and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster in the Labour Government of 1929–31, a position he resigned due to his disagreement with the Labour Government’s unemployment policies. He then formed the New Party which merged with the BUF (which included the Blackshirts) in 1932.

Although relatively well funded, Mosley often overemphasized intellectual fine points that appealed to few voters, opposed free trade and associated closely with Nazi Germany. Mosley was interned in 1940 and the BUF was proscribed. He was released in 1943, and, politically disillusioned in Britain, he moved abroad in 1951, spending most of the remainder of his life in France.

Most of them really. You can’t tar Deutsche Bank as a whole by its London operation though. I vaguely remember a report on lending (from German) to an iScotland that was quite rational and similar to the S&P report.

If I remember correctly, it thought there would be a premium because of Scotland’s over-exposeure to the financial sector, which is fair enough, but with any luck we’d lose a lot of that as Edinburgh operations simply brass-plated their operation down in London to get BoE protection, something that the BoE can’t really stop.

The thing is that with FFA or even Indepedence, the Bank would be falling over itself to lend money to Scotland to cover the deficit, as Scotland is still a “premium grade” investment (probably A or A+ and AAA within 2 or 3 years). Even with the low price of oil which has indeed risen to $59 and generally expected to rise slowly, ups and down included. Our onshore GDP is good, and rising steadily – FFA / Indy would almost inevitably increase that rate of climb, as Scotland put in place fiscal and economic policies that suited us, not the whole of the UK (read London and South-East).

Meanwhile, banks knowing which side their bread is butterd under the UK Government, play the UK Gov game, with the help of course, of the BBC.

They tend to add, that Nicola is fully aware of this, so pretending that she can stop this momentum is being disingenuous.

So if you haven’t already done so, Join the SNP and make sure we all push for Scotland to have control over our own media, no bias, but true journalism that is accountable for what they do and don’t print or show.

Any lack of balance on our broadcast media could then be addressed, and any articles appearing in the arse-wiper media, would have some oversight, so that the obnoxious behaviour of the Telegraph when they door-stepped people who commented on wings, could be challenged and large fines could be administered if they broke a ‘Scottish Media’ code of practice.

Surely the days of outright lies and smears, that are used to cause divisions in our communities or intended to scare people off from supporting Scottish self determination, is unacceptable?
Surely the days of Scots being forced to pay a licence fee to a media outlet that is clearly biased against, Scottish self determination, is unsustainable?

Actually Ken500, there was nothing secret about it. Some of we old hand were telling anyone who would listen that the Treasury was taking 100% of the revenues and calling them as from Extra-Regio-Territory and that this was like them inventing a new UK country the lay mainly in what was internationally recognised as being Scottish territory and under Scottish legal jurisdiction.

To this day the cost of policing those oil & gas installations is 100% paid for by the council tax payers of the councils adjacent to the off-shore fields. There is no addition from the Treasury.

No one listened to us and we were mainly regarded as those Nationalist Loonies. When devolution was first being spoken about we were also warning that unless England also got a parliament outwith that of the United Kingdom there was going to be trouble as it meant William Wallace died for nothing and Bruce was now going to have lost the wars of independence.

For the London Establishment was about to accomplish what the overwhelming outnumbering of English Armies could never accomplish. To make England the masters of the other three United Kingdom countries. Well folks, that’s the way that particular cookie has indeed crumbled. Go read that UK Gov funded paper that I’ve cited several times before and which David Mundell so arrogantly quoted, thus, “The Treaty of Union extinguished the Kingdom of Scotland and renamed the Kingdom of England as, “The United Kingdom”.

That, as far as the Westminster Establishment is concerned is Scotland’s place and the place they intend to keep us. The United Kingdom Parliament, (in their eyes), is indeed the Parliament of England and Scotland has become just another region of England.
