Life coming at you

Posted on August 02, 2019 by

2 August 2018: Ruth Davidson is the second most popular Tory with party members surveyed by Conservative Home, and regularly spoken of by the press as a potential future Prime Minister.

2 August 2019: not so much.

Oh well, that’s showbiz.

Still, at least the UK media punditariat was on top of the situation as usual:

Sooner or later, everyone sees what we see.

It’s all another measure of the utter irrational and chaotic mess BritNats and Tories in particular are in.

Whatever we think of Davidson, the last few elections have shown that she was probably the strongest asset the UK had in Scotland. The media build up, and creating the Ruth Davidson single policy brand, returned modest gains for BritNattery.

And now all that has been cast aside as collateral damage with Johnson’s orgy of the far right policies and English Nationalism.

Perhaps even some Scottish Tories will now see they are Scots just like the rest of us, expendable!

Special Thematic Section on “Societal Change”

A Complex Systems Approach to the Study of Ideology: Cognitive-Affective Structures and the Dynamics of Belief Systems

    Abstract

We propose a complex systems approach to the study of political belief systems, to overcome some of the fragmentation in the current scholarship on ideology. We review relevant work in psychology, sociology, and political science and identify major cleavages in the literature: the spatial vs. non-spatial divide (ideologies as reducible to a spatially organized set of dimensions vs. as complex conceptual structures) and the person-group problem (ideologies as driven by psychological needs of individuals vs. by institutional and power structures of society).

We argue that construing ideologies as conceptual networks of cognitive-affective representations embedded in social networks of people may provide a path for bridging these existing gaps and epistemological disputes. Tools from cognitive science and computational social science such as cognitive-affective mapping, connectionist simulations, and agent-based modeling are appropriate methods for a new research program that substantiates our complex systems perspective on ideology.

    Keywords:
ideology, belief systems, complex systems, social change, cognitive-affective mapping, computational modeling

Davidson very recently, has ‘threatened’ to split the Tories in Scotland from the Uk party.

An official split, where the ‘Scottish’ tory accounting unit, self fund and become an ACTUAL Scottish Conservative Party.

Officially, it is because Davidson hates her new boss, but in reality, it is to enable the New Scottish Tory Party to operate in an independent Scotland when we end the Treaty of Union.

As currently constitued, NO UNIONIST PARTY will be allowed to take part in the politics of an independent Scotland as they are part of a political party operating in WM, which will soon be the parliament of a foreign country.

THAT is why they oppose even holding an indyref, good old self preservation.

By talking about a split, Davidson is admitting that Indy is inevitable and is testing the ground to see if she can get enough backing to create a new, seperate tory party entity which WILL allow her to keep operating in an indy Scotland.

Fuck all to do with her new idiot boss.

Which other media outlets do you feel that WOS should ignore? Did Terry Pratchett ever have the honour of meeting you and that inspired his above quote?

Her ‘rise to fame’ reminds me of Farage. Farage was leading a party (UKIP) with little support and little chance of getting any. Seen as a fringe party beset with power struggles and petty squabbles. They’d had little to raise their profile since Robert Kilroy Silk had been with them, albeit temporarily. But, with MUCH support from Question Time under Dimbleby’s direction, he was given a regular platform from which to present both his case, and the ‘fact’ that he was mainstream and most important of all – POPULAR when, in fact, he was NONE of those things.

Like Davidson, Farage (and UKIP) have been entirely a creation of the media. But for Davidson the novelty has worn off and her obvious support for ‘Remain’ has her out of step with the ‘swivel-eyed loons’ that are the Scottish Tories…
