Wings Over Scotland

Don’t tell them your name, Pike

Posted on June 20, 2014 by

If you’re not on Twitter, readers, you’ve been missing ALL the fun today.

daillylist2

Above are just the creepiest two of a series of tweets posted this morning by “social justice campaigner” Mike Dailly of the Govan Law Centre – previously known to those of this parish – to the effect that he’d really rather prefer if people stopped following my personal Twitter account, @RevStu, because I was so all-around awful.

It didn’t work out quite as well as he’d hoped.

(I’ve no idea, incidentally, why he chose to pick on the personal account rather than the Wings Over Scotland one. I never talk about Scottish politics on it, and it’s usually chiefly reserved for foul-mouthed outbursts at badly-designed technology/software and useless customer service helplines.)

Ironically for a self-professed socialist and trade union fan, Dailly appeared to be suggesting that he was engaged in creating some sort of a blacklist to be circulated to the media, in which anyone who followed me would be incriminated by association.

That this is perhaps a somewhat inconsistent policy for someone who follows the Holocaust-denying ex-UKIPper and present-day loony Alistair McConnachie (see here), and extremist Loyalist nutcases Andrew Skinner and “Stronger United”, among lesser trolls, seems to have gone over Mike’s head somewhat.

The reaction online was incredible. Friends and opponents alike condemned the deeply creepy move, and there was much amusing satire, which unfortunately due to the nature of Twitter you really did have to be there to enjoy. The most striking result was that rather than decimating my personal account’s modest 2,400 followers at the start of today, at the time of writing it now stands at over 3,300.

We have of course rushed out a quick cash-in range of promotional “I’M ON THE LIST” items, which readers over-burdened with money can avail themselves of while stocks last. (Stocks will last forever.)

But the incident typifies a week that’s seen the most concerted and sustained smear attacks on this site to date. Every time the No camp and media tries to rubbish Wings Over Scotland with personal slurs against me, more and more curious onlookers come to see the freakshow for themselves, realise the impression they’ve been given is false, and in many cases stick around to read more, as seen in our readership stats.

The enemy, in short, is doing our leafleting for us.

There’s been all sorts of other high-jinks today too. Thanks, apparently, to a subversive agent within the offices of the Scotsman that we didn’t even know we had, the front cover of the print edition’s motoring section today looked like this:

scotsmanwingsmotoring

…before some killjoy spotted it and hastily replaced it for the digital version.

scotsmanwings2

And the attempted assault on our credibility (which a whiny Lib Dem site joined in with too, sending us yet more traffic) was somewhat undermined by an unexpected article on STV’s “Scotland Decides” minisite which left us spoiled for choice for pull-quotes for our next ad blurb, though it’s hard not to love “arguably the most exciting, invigorating, and innovative entrant to the Scottish media world in recent years”.

(It followed this lovely piece by Robin McAlpine on Bella Caledonia the day before.)

So this stuff’s all good for a chuckle, but such soap-opera antics shouldn’t and won’t distract from the much more important work this site does every day. In the meantime, if our Unionist pals want to keep sending more eyeballs our way to see it, with their mad bully-boy tactics and hysterical wolf-crying, far be it from us to dissuade them.

Been laughing along, all day long, at the Twitter responses. Top class wit and bemusement all over the place about “the list”. The car thing was hilarious as well. On that, couldn’t someone at the Scotsman just have calmed down and, rather than changing the headline on the online edition, just keep it the same and show, maybe, that someone there has a vestige of a sense of humour/self-awareness? That’d been nice. Peace and respect, Stu.

Some weird shit happens in this debate and people who should know better do some daft things.

We do have the odd McGlashan or two who take things too far (generally more daft than nasty) but Better together seem to be crafting their remaining three month strategy on a Senator McCarthy style witch hunt and smear campaign.

If I thought it would work I might be outraged but I think this is seriously dippy and will be counter-productive.

I suppose the other thing is the rather obvious fact that Wings seems to have really got under their skin. You do not waste so much energy on fringe group no one reads or pays any attention to.

Calling someone an arse isn’t the best way to tackle the higher moral ground in a twitter spat on internet etiquette come to think of it.

People have criticised the length of time between the announcement of the referendum and the date of the referendum, but it has proved to be a godsend as it has allowed enough time to show up the Better Together crowd for what they are, viz., vicious and manipulative.

It seems that Salmond was smart enough to know that it would be like this and decided to give BT enough rope to hang themselves. He has outmanoeuvred his enemies again.

BTW I remember Dailly producing a condemnatory letter, with no warning to the SNP, and with the assistance of Glen Campbell at one of the first BBC Scotland debates on the independence question. The letter was intended to be a death blow to the SNP, but here we are. This was the Glen Campbell, the unbiased BBC man, who tore up a copy of the SNP’s manifesto on the steps at the entrance to the Holyrood parliament.

It’s a dark day for the voluntary sector when we’ve got people like Mike Dailly compiling lists.

It would be nice, but I think what the Rev. is exposing, is at the nub of the indeyref debate. Civil liberties in the UK, especially the lack of them in terms of the Scottish experience. Sure, we are not under curfew or forced into labour, but does your votes count and are we represented? Where are your taxes being spent? Could your cost of living be less? How are you going to improve your circumstances, within the current system, where you have insufficient voice with which to be noticed? I think they are about to reduce the number of MPs and it would be very easy to impose further limits.

Most of us have enough food in our bellies and beds to rest on. But is that enough? We are not wearing coloured stars, yet, but we are now getting allegedly serious individuals demanding lists.

Is it acceptable that the British state and the MSM, work endlessly to dehumanise roughly half of Scotland’s voting public? How can politicians who call a good whack of the Scottish electorate “blood and soil nationalists”, “CYBERNATS” and a “VIRUS”, still be drawing a wage from the public purse? When will Scotland enjoy it’s first ever democratically elected government, chosen by Scots and working for Scots. Subservient to none bar the international bankers, but so is everyone else.

I’m sure this issue will rumble on until the end. All we need to do is keep a keen eye and telling our friends what we see. I’m sure there will be plenty of policy issues to debate soon. Mind you, I’ll no guarantee they will be new. 🙂

Scotland has always been bedevilled with people with holier than thou beliefs that have undermined Scotland at every opportunity.

Recent events have shown this to be alive and kicking.

A classic example of this and what might have been happened at the Battle of Dunbar in 1650 when a larger and well equipped and fed Scottish Army was defeated by a small weekened and starving Cromwell led Army because of the catastrophic actions of Presbyterian Ministers weeding out and sending home all of the very best fighting soldiers and leaders because they didn’t fit the profile of piety the Ministers wanted in their Army.

The following passage from an account of the battle speaks volumes about what happened:-

“It appears that General Leslie’s tried and true guerrilla strategy had been summarily overruled earlier in the day by the impatient Covenanter ministers’ committee from Edinburgh. The men of the cloth accompanied the Scottish commander to the top of Doon Hill, only to bury their heads in the religious sand. In mid-August, the Covenanters pressed Charles II to issue a public statement attacking his mother’s popery and his late father’s bad counsel. Charles refused and watered down his declaration considerably before making it public. The Covenanters went berserk and took their revenge by shooting themselves in the foot. They launched a purge of the Scottish army, starkly reminiscent of Josef Stalin’s ideological purges of the Soviet Union’s Red Army during the 1930s. More than 3,000 of General Leslie’s best professional soldiers including many of his officers were peremptorily dismissed from the army and sent home for such unforgivable sins as loose morals and swearing in public. One angry Scottish colonel said the Covenanters left Leslie with an army of “nothing but useless clerks and ministers’ sons, who have never seen a sword, much the less used one.””

John, I see the Union Jack luvvin Morrisons Supermarket is axing over 2500 jobs because of falling sales.

This is the company that covers it’s supermarkets with Union Jacks, plays England football songs over the tannoy and hands out leaflets for the Better Together campaign.

And they wonder why their sales are falling in Scotland.

Lidl and Aldi were found to be taking most of their customers.

So, if you like to do your shopping in a Union jack plastered supermarket while listening to “Three Lions On Your Shirt” (England football team anthem), then Morrisons is for you.

Alternatively, more pleasant and cheaper supermarkets are out there.

With each passing day the ‘Great’ in GB is more and more diminished and tarnished.

Through the ongoing Referendum debate, the Unionist Establishment continues to reveal it’s true colours, which are not to be found in it’s lofty and primary symbol, the union flag, but rather in the indescribable colours of raw union sewage spewed out from every institutional oriface.

We are all surely undergoing a re-education about the kind of people who run this country and their unionist followers.

For many decades we have seen the unnacceptable face of Unionism in NI but we on the mainland thought of that as being ‘over there’.
Now we know , it’s over here as well.

Bare faced and defiant in NI, Unionism in the rest of the UK has worked relentlessly on it’s public image so as to present a nicer picture.

But the fixer has degraded and the true colours of the Establishment can now be clearly seen.

Disgustingly greedy, anti-democratic, pompous and superior, and barely disguising a mindset in which the ending of slavery is seen as a mistake.
At least, judging by the way the poor and the working classes are treated by Government in the UK today, one could easily be forgiven for thinking so.

Hopefully this will all result in an ‘awakening’ for Scots, but also for the Welsh, the regional English and the good people of NI, though I suspect the N Irish have already completed their education at the hands of the British Establishment.

Perhaps, as one thing leads to another after the fashion of falling dominoes, the result will truly be the end of the ‘Empire’ and the beginning of a new political structure in the UK.
Such a change will not happen overnight, nor without suffering, but the writing is now definitly on the wall and the dominoes have already begun to fall.
An age of change is upon us.
    The Referendum, it’s flag bearer.

    I’m voting Yes.

    My re-education is almost complete.

    And the new colours ?

    Independence and self-determination for Scotland.

    Aye.

Simple truth is you are just too good. Thank god you’re on our side, otherwise most of the mis-truths being spouted by the No campaign and the msm would never get the de-bunking it deserves, for the balance it bring to the debate, which we know is sadly lacking in the campaign proper.

By 2017 it’s perfectly possible that England could find itself almost alone, abandoned by Scotland and outside the European Union. It might cling to Wales and Northern Ireland, but how long before those nations too thought about going their own way?

It’s easy to get carried away. But these are times of uncertainty for England, unsure who its partners are, where its borders end, even what song to sing. Those 11 young men carried quite a burden on Thursday night. We wanted them to know us better than we know ourselves.

This is the inference; they equate power with skill and talent. Hence the inane mindset Scotland is too small for self-governance.

The shock to them is, big, mighty England has a crap team. Could it have anything to do with uncertainty of identify: British – English? If so, now is the time to define it.

The bottom line of text on the reverse, should match up with the bottom of the text on the front page. Either edit the preamble or reduce the font size of the strap, or both. This won’t only smarten things up, it will also provide a margin of error for the guillotine operator. Just sort it out. 🙂

As Mary Brooksbank once said, ‘scream through their yellow press, vituperation, their tirade’s their measure, now great is their fear’.
The saddest thing here, however, is that is has initiated an internal fight within Yes and that potentially serves to split us. Robin McAlpine was correct; instead of allowing No to put us on the defensive and apologise for behaviour really we should never have been apologising for, we should have stayed united and pushed the propaganda back onto them. We can win independence if we are united, not if we allow No to set the agenda.
