Wings Over Scotland

We haven’t forgotten

Posted on April 25, 2013 by

You’ve probably noticed there’s been quite a lot going on here recently, but we’re not neglecting the wonderful people who contributed to our hugely successful fundraiser.

hamishthanks

The first version of our Credits page is now live.

There are about a million issues with it, so we’ll do a list.

1. If you donated but didn’t select a “perk”, Indiegogo interprets that as meaning you didn’t want to be acknowledged publicly. If you sent money but DO want to be credited, and you’re not on the list, please drop us a line. The same thing goes for donations made via non-Indiegogo routes. (And also if you DO appear on the list but DON’T want to.)

2. Indiegogo’s funder list doesn’t appear to stretch all the way back to the beginning of the fundraiser for some reason (we can only tell that because we remember some very distinctive names who don’t appear on it), so again see  (1).

3. If you made multiple donations that raised you to a higher tier, please also let us know. Cross-referencing hundreds and hundreds of names for every donation would take us into 2015 sometime, and we’ve kinda got important stuff to do between now and then 😀

(3a. Gmail is mindbogglingly awful, so if you sent any special instructions via that method, I “starred” them for future reference, a function which now appears to mean “Make these emails completely invisible forever”. You might want to try a refresher to be safe. Sorry again.)

4. For those who donated to Hero and Saviour level, we’re still figuring out a few small logistical issues with getting your rewards to you. But the special merchandise logo will very likely be a version of the lion shield seen just above the Gandhi quote on our middle column, just to the right of these words.

Admin is horrible. Thanks for your patience.

    Rev,
Can you do a piece regarding Unite and the comments by Len McCluskey on Murphy and Alexander. See the New Statesman. McCluskey’s view on these two Scots MPs is quite breathtaking in it’s potential implications. Effectively Unite are whipping the carpet away from under the careers of Jim and Duggie. Strong stuff indeed and without a potential career in the Shadow Cabinet, never mind a future Westminster Government, this might have Murphy and Alexander pondering the future destination of their egos.

Yes. The difficulty is in getting people to realise that sending 50 pence is not just acceptable, but wonderful.  Lots of fifty pences make a lot of pounds.  I ran a local lottery for the SNP many years ago – fifty pence a shot, every week.  We could fund our campaigns to the tune of thousands, and not a zillionaire criminal donor in sight.  I always loved that we were funded by our own community, by the people we met every day in the street. We were doing what they paid us to do.

It was a ‘special’ show because Jim Wallace and Henry McLeish were both there, representing the coalition.

I emailed in a question. (It was the first time I’d ever done it, after following the show pretty much since it’d started, and we’d not long had access to e-mail at home – it was still a big thrill even to be connected.)

The question was...’If they’re still visible through all the smoke and mirrors, can you please ask these men to outline one proposal aimed at reducing child poverty in this country?’

After I sent the message I waited and waited, listened to the pair of them rambling on about this that and t’other. Lesley, if I remember rightly, was having a bit of a laugh with them, winding them up a bit. (There was also a telly crew present at some point, as images appeared on that night’s News.)

Anyway, I’d given up any hope of my question being used, thought it was probably too cheeky, but then Lesley used it, right at the end. You could hear her smiling, she knew it was a sticky one, and when she finished reading it she just stopped….dead air…for a good few seconds…neither wanted to answer, and there was some ‘you go first’ mumbling before, I think, McLeish, cracked first and trotted out something.

For me, it was like that movie, (Broadcast News ?) when the guy phones in the stats about the fighter planes and the presenter uses them ‘live’.

You’ll be familiar with the work TUFI has already been doing, so it seems reasonable to assume that the behind-the-scenes patter has been ongoing for a wee while. It’s unimaginable that such chatter isn’t getting to the Scotlab hierarchy – fair enough, they’re shackled by Milliband’s people, so can’t do much anyway…

Hootsman headlining Accountants scare story over pensions.
Yesterday MPs criticised the UK tax authorities cosy links with the big accounting firms that help companies avoid tax. The public accounts committee report is a damning indictment of the Treasury and tax officials. Some £25.5bn remains uncollected from disputes with 2,700 companies using schemes promoted by accountants. Imagine how that would help the economy.

As any investment company will testify Scots save and invest more per head and have less mortgage commitments than the rest of the UK. So why shouldn’t private pension schemes continue to be funded to the same extent after independence. These Accountancy leaders should be telling George Osborne to stop scaremongering and causing uncertainty over currency. Such scaremongering eventually becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy but that’s what the no campaign wants.

Government figures suggested that Scotland’s population share of UK public sector net debt in 2017-18 would be equivalent to 72% of Scotland’s national wealth. This would be lower than the equivalent UK figure of 77%.On independence, Scotland would continue to pay the same benefits and tax credits as across the UK and protect the state pension. You will then elect Scottish Government who will be responsible for future changes to the welfare system, allowing us to reverse damaging changes such as the ‘bedroom tax’.

Government figures show that the current bill for benefits, state pension and other tax credits in Scotland, uses 38% of taxes raised in Scotland. For the UK as a whole, the bill is slightly larger at 42.3% of UK taxes. This means we are better able to afford our welfare system than the UK.

And Education, Health, Police, Fire and Civil Service pensions are already paid from the Scottish government budget.

Not on the list as well Rev positive i donated twice via paypal, both times were of the benefactor category although the second time i may have used a different name.  Would appreciate if you would include me in the list of benefactor names as Inbhir Anainn.

I intend to donate 4 shiny pound coins.  They have been steeping in HP brown sauce overnight and I then polish them vigorously.  They will be deposited in my account and a donation made via some electronic means.
No dirty money from me Sir.

Rev. i don’t want anything due to my contribution but I would like to buy some Wee lion stuff. Any progress with Chris on marketing? Why not have a word with Yes Scotland?

Since there already seems to be a wide variety of comments on this thread, its seems as good a place as any to ask an off-topic question.

Is anyone who posts on here going to be on the Yes Scotland stall in the Murraygate in Dundee tomorrow? I’m planning to pop along to see what information I can pick up.

Yes. The specific amount is “a bit”.

Couldn’t resist a wee peek at my name in lights, well sort of bold black. It struck me, as I read through the lists, it’s a male dominated site?
What’s that about I wonder. Clearly more men than women have made up their minds to vote YES, though still surprised at the paucity of women.
Suppose I’ll have to try harder to persuade the Scottish sisterhood.

Thanks for finding my ‘missing’ donation, as now accounted for by PayPal too 🙂

I donated as a Benefactor on the 6th of Feb and may have slipped off the radar due to a combination of 1 and 2.
