Is he feeling that knife in his back?
I see a gaze of utter fruitlessness and despair. It sure looks like heading up the BT campaign ain’t good for you.
Better Together suffer the same problem as Scottish Labour – they have no one better to take the place of the bungling leader, or at least no one who would want the job.
Mon the Lidl and Aldi!
Had someone just asked him for the positive case for the union?
Darling’s really got the kiss of death about him. Destroyer of the economy, the banking system, Labour’s election prospects, and now the Union. There goes his House of Lords fancy dress gig.
He looks as if someone’s finally extracted that pole from his arse.
I think everyone is so ungrateful regarding Darlings contribution to Scotland. Is this not the most respected Chancer of the modern era ?

@naebd
It just gets on yer wick when they keep saying respected – Where ?
He should quit BT and come out for indy lol.
Look! The guy’s done his best. O.K. I know that is a terrible thing to say, but he has.
Everyone seen the great riposte to the sweeping supermarket scares over at Business for Scotland?

Gordoz says
“Is this not the most respected Chancer of the modern era ?”
I think you misspelled a word there Gordoz, no you say? ok.
Joe Kane says
“it’s important to show how much people enjoy being around me. ”
Gulp, did he ACTUALLY say that out loud ?hhmmppff aha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha,
he’s the man I was talking about who waits patiently for the ppi call to have someone who wont shout at him to talk to.
Joe Kane says
“Just to say, A_DarlingMP is a spoof twitter character.”
Just read that bit,ya boo sucks, what a spoil sport you are Joe couldn’t you have just left me in ignorant bliss? 🙁
Not extinct yet!

Everything comes to those who wait or in the chancer’s case who wail.
Porkers telling porkies.
11% above inflation wage rises = no worries about the price of beans.
Scotland deserves better than BT.
Only the SNP gov in Holyrood protects Scotland from Westminster corruption, secrecy and manipulation.
He look as if he has just seen the STV indy poll. From now on, every poll for Alistair is the Writing on the Wall:
mina – God has numbered the days of your kingdom and brought it to an end
shekel – you have been weighed on the scales and found wanting
half-mina – your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.

I am not sure that the Yes campaign should be putting pressure on Alistair Darling.
I think it is in our interests that Bitter Together are headed by the incompetent fool that helped destroy the UK economy. If he is replaced, who could replace him that would be less competent, less charismatic and less popular than the man that destroyed so many people’s livelihoods and savings?

Conversely, who could they replace him with that we’d be scared of? It never hurts to have the opposition’s manager sacked as a failure unless it leads to them hiring a much better one.
@supermarkets
I’ve emailed the chief exec of Morrisons to voice my displeasure at their naive participation in Scotland’s political future and to add that I am boycotting them pending a response.
I’ve also discovered that identical eggs I buy are 90p cheaper per dozen in Aldi. Perhaps my boycott will be permanent.
@thejourneyman
Over at the Guardian one bright spark said it’s a great opportunity for a new Scottish supermarket – we could call it “Laldie”
“If he is replaced, who could replace him that would be less competent, less charismatic and less popular than the man that destroyed so many people’s livelihoods and savings?”
If you look at the detail of that STV poll, support for the Union is overwhelmingly among the well-off. Most of us will have noticed that – there is no radical movement supporting the Union as there is supporting independence. So a dull, part-qualified accountant type like Darling is probably not a bad choice for BT. ‘Let’s leave things alone’ is an easy message to send the better off.
The Yes campaign needs to get to these people, who probably don’t get turned on very much by ideas like abolition of the Bedroom Tax. Remind them that when their health care is privatised, the Range Rover might have to go to pay for Grampa’s chronic condition, and Mum’s Beemer doesn’t look safe if young Geordie needs that surgery. It’s all relative.
Regarding the supermarket scare stories yesterday, I do hope the BBC One Show are going to give us a full apology tonight for the lies they told the UK viewers last night.
I think that we need to start embarrassing these organisations. Start emailing media companies across Europe and the world.
There are TV companies like Russia Today, or RT tv, which do listen to our views. They have a show called “Underground”. It deals with issues that the UK government would not like you to hear.
If more of us contacted them regarding media bias in the UK against Scottish Independence then I am sure they would run a piece about that.
Contact RT :- press@rttv.ru or info@rttv.ru
The bias should also be highlighted more on live shows or outside broadcasts, so they don’t have the opportunity to edit it out.
The message I am trying to put across to you is,
EMBARRASS THE BASTARDS!!!!
Mr D will no doubt be outside today’s event answering questions about the WP
OH wait that will be AS. Just a reminder it’s live on the internet.
…………………
More than 300 people from large and small businesses, trade unions, the voluntary and public sectors, charities and other organisations will get the chance to quiz the First Minister and his team.
It comes two weeks after the Scottish Government published its White Paper on independence, with Mr Salmond saying at the time that the document was a ”mission statement” on how creating a separate Scotland could help build a better nation.
Mr Salmond said this morning’s event was an “ideal opportunity” for leading figures to learn more about the document – which runs to almost 670 pages – to help them make an informed decision ahead of next year’s referendum.
The event, at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, is being broadcast live on the internet.

… Could be worse, chaps. At least he hasn’t eaten *all* the pies. 😀
Captain Caveman
Miaowwwww. Bitchy comment there. Let us see your waistline. 🙂
😀
A rather portly 36″ I’m afraid! 🙁
Good to have you back with us Captain!
Hey thanks mate, I’m all over the place right now but I always regularly read Wings. When this is all over – whatever the result – we should some of us meet up in Scotland and have a right old booze up. 😀
This Civil Scotland event today I think is designed to answer question that civic leaders and others have in the event of a Yes vote.
I think “Yes Scotland” should run similar meetings, involving strictly No Voters. It would be held throughout Scotland and it’s purpose would be to answer all the questions No Voters have regarding Independence.
Some of the meetings would be lively, but it would help get the message out of all the advantages of Independence.
I think Yes Scotland should seriously consider holding debates along those lines.
Face the No Voters head-on and give them the answers they are looking for.
Sorry, O/T but Herald story says with a firmly negative spin that 51% say they will not be influenced by the White Paper. Ok, so I’m one of them and I’m voting YES, as I’m already convinced.
Where’s the story?
Hey CC, why don’t you throw your hat in the ring as a replacement for AD?
LOL! Don’t think I have *quite* the necessary gravitas mate! 😀
Project Fear’s five million questions continues unabated in the Hootsman this time scaremongering over UK government pensions.

@CC –
Come on now – you’re doing yourself down. At least you manage to engage with Yes supporters without having hissy fits, and you’ve a sense of humour. Off the top of me napper I can’t think of any BT figures who score on both counts, and they really are in a position now where they have to think out of the box.
So, yeah, I nominate you. Or Nicholas Soames.
An interesting critique of the UK’s finances!

What about Malcolm Rifkind? A radical thinker like Malcolm could unite New Scottish Labour in the campaign against Scotland running its own affairs.
The MP for Kensington is as proud a Scot as one could find.
In a surprise fundraiser announcement, Better Together have launched a risque Xmas Calendar, apparently with the aim of attracting more Women to the Referendum debate.

What a load of nonsense in that letter. For those with a UK Civil Service Pension our Pensions were moved to a different provider without our consent too. UK Government rules for both.
Another worthwhile petition for those who aren’t yet completely scunnered filling-in these things:
link to change.org
Seem to go around and around these scare monger stories, even after they have been publicly debunked,it’s like it gets forgotten, then comes back again. How many times have pensions been debunked now,3,4?Its a merry go round, wait long enough and the same horse will come around again. And again.
I’m actually beginning to hate the UK government/ establishment.
I think the latest scare story re food prices was definitely to frighten the female vote.
Most folk can only take so much negativity and if it ramps up any more, people will switch off and tune in to Strictly or X-factor.
Morrison’s and Tesco are both denying that prices will rise but how do we get that across when the entire media are against iScotland.
This morning Morrisons AND Asda, reported as saying no such thing.
Yet with the lie the MSM had their day. It is their new co-ordinated strategy, manipulate lies then push out across the media as truth, cover all the papers, tv, any place they can find. Get the doom and gloom out there to scare Scottish voters.
If the truth comes out next day that it is all lies, so what, it is out there and message received by the public.
This is third world stuff, the UK supports democracy everywhere, except Scotland, where their anti democratic movement knows no bounds. If we allow this to continue without redress of some sort, then we deserve all we get. The YES vote is no longer an option, it is a must.
It seems the Financial Times has been caught telling porkies about the big 4 supermarkets. Tesco, ASDA, Morrison and Sainsbury have all publicly denied the FT story.
So despite the denials from all concerned, the BBC have this.

I despair. I also note that The One Show may have retracted their claim on their Facebook page, but its really hard to find. There is nothing on their own BBC page.
It’s quite a list isn’t it – the list of things that rUK subsidises the Scots for.
We now have groceries added to the long list. With other fundamentals like postage, petrol, telecoms, financial services, utilities, social welfare, … included in the list of dependence it really makes you wonder how all the countries in the world actually manage?
We should have a Bullshit Bingo style card for all the possible items that the Scaremonger General is going to leak to his pals in the media to throw a hissy fit over.
I predict in the New Year…”Edinburgh Rock likely to cost more in an independent Scotland”
They don’t manage,in fact, they are all desperate and are lining up as we write to join the empire ‘cos they can’t afford their messages this week.
Murray Mcallum says
“The MP for Kensington is as proud a Scot as one could find.”
Your a very naughty boy Murray , but I like it
@scotchwoman
“Where’s the story?”
in the detail. Of the 50% not changing their minds as a result of the White Paper, 20% are staying No and 20% staying Yes. Of the 10% who are changing, most are moving to yes. I’m going to guess that they are the 10% who have actually read it.
i’m hoping the Rev is getting into the guts of it right now.
Just about to watch the live questions and answers session by cabinet ministers – have tuned in and they’re playing music from The Nutcracker – I assume that heralds another barnstorming performance by Nicola 🙂
what kind of “DEMOCRATIC” country tries to rule it’s citizens by “FEAR, LIES AND SCARE TACTICS”. What type of country uses it’s “STATE LICENSED MEDIA TO TERRORISE ITS CITEZENS AND SPREAD ITS BLACK PROPAGANDA”.
After all the rubbish about the Chilcotte enquiry into press standards, this is the “CLEANED UP VERTION” ?
This sounds to me like how HMG used to accuse the USSR of mistreating it’s people! So if the NO voters want to be treated the same objectionable way as the USSR treated its cannon fodder then count me out. VOTE YES FOR TRUTH HONESTY & FREEDOM!
Conversely, who could they replace him with that we’d be scared of? It never hurts to have the opposition’s manager sacked as a failure unless it leads to them hiring a much better one.
Please can we have Jeremy Hunt. Please Santa. We’ll be good.
Wonder how high up these positions are?
”
Dear Supporter,
With less than 10 months until the referendum, Better Together is recruiting two Local Campaign Organisers – one to cover the Mid-Scotland & Fife Region and the other covering the Lothian Region.
These roles are a once in a lifetime opportunity to be directly involved in the most important decision we will ever take as a country. CV’s and a covering letter should be emailed to rob.murray@bettertogether.net by Monday 16th December, 12noon.

“
I noticed in the BBC “coverage” of today’s Q&A session that they appear to quote puir Alistair, but he is only mentioned as “A spokesman”. Is that a sign?
( link to bbc.co.uk But not really worth the time it takes to scan the first paragraph.)
“A Better Together spokesman said all questions should already have been answered by the White Paper.”
And “However a spokesman for the Better Together campaign, which opposes independence, said the White Paper was a “work of fiction”.
He added: “We were told in advance that the White Paper would answer all of our questions about the consequences of independence, but it did nothing of the sort.”
Is there any chance of the Project Fear doing similar sessions, answering questions on Scotland’s future in the union, live and unedited?
A2
very high up
you could be on telly (with nicola)
so be afraid very afraid
want to buy some hankys
Darling has a hunted look.
Fair comment is one thing, but this torrent of calculated lies about Scottish affairs has gone far enough.
Unionists and some folk in England, Westminster et al don’t care about our future. They will push their distorted agenda at every opportunity, working against Scottish interests.
If Independence is a ‘bad thing’ as they suggest, why then is it good for Westminster’s interests? Why was Scotland propelled into two World Wars – and many minor wars – to preserve English interests on ‘the world stage’?
If they’re half as good as they seem to think they are, why not simply demonstrate it themselves?
This phony war against Scotland must stop. There are many other reasons for Scottish excellence – not just this wee pretend economic argument, in which it has been clearly shown that we more than pay our way, in fact we subsidise the others.
Lets move to whatever other arguments Westminster cares to make, but let’s speak honestly and truthfully – or simply butt out if all you can offer is your uninformed disparagement.
Should some of we worthy chaps and chapesses apply for the Better Together posts?
We wouldn’t leak or nothing…..honest.
@Handand
There is a reason for the job spec – able to work on your own -, you would be.
