Wings Over Scotland

Good morning, Unionists

Posted on February 21, 2013 by

This guy’s on your team. Congratulations on that.

farage1

(We’re particularly impressed by the attack on Nicola Sturgeon, just days after a poll found her to be the most popular politician in Scotland, and probably Britain. Genius.)

At the last Scottish Parliament election, UKIP secured 0.52% of the vote, a little over half the share achieved by the Scottish Senior Citizens Unity Party. We’re not sure why the press doesn’t give their leader, whoever it is, more front covers.

Ah, UK independence is good.  Scottish independence is bad.  I see.
Still, I don’t like to think that the likes of Nigel won’t view me as a ‘canny Scot’ when I vote Yes.  I’ll make it up to him by wearing a giant shortbread tin.

martyn

lol

Jeannie

I can’t take this guy seriously at all – and it’s not only because of the rubbish he spouts – it’s also because when I see him on tv, the next image that automatically zips though my brain is …..Bart Simpson.  Honestly, I think he’s a dead ringer.  So, in the spirit of The Simpsons, my answer to Nigel’s insane rant would be…”Don’t have a cow, man!”

hector

is it the old dodge to raise my profile and gain publicity  i’ll annoy the locals. wonder why?

scottish_skier

I’m sure Nick Griffin would be happy to speak up in support of Better Together too. After all, I understand the pro-union campaign is an ‘inclusive’ one.

CameronB

Inclusive so long as you are male.

Willie Zwigerland

Thanks Rev. Congratulations for having Martin McGuiness and Tommy Sheridan on your side.

scottish_skier

@Willie Z.
Are Sinn Fein standing for elections in Scotland? I had no idea.

Indy_Scot

This man does not half talk some rubbish. Saw him a few days ago on STV spouting absolute dribble about how much support he has in Scotland based on UK figures, and stating as fact that Scotland would be out of the EU and have to join to Euro because Barrososaid so.

The man is clearly an idiot. Any decent political commentator would have ripped him to shreds, unfortunately he was only facing John what’s his name.

scottish_skier

Given that the pro-union campaign are quite adamant that Scotland will be promptly and forcibly removed from the EU the instant a Yes vote is returned, surely Farage should be backing YesScotland?

Ghengis

He’s been doing the rounds up here, why? He’s being ushered in to every TV and station here why? He’s getting to spout off in every anti-Scottish newspaper? …. Our despicable media are supporting his anti-Europe stance to try to push people into the NO-Scotland camp (on the prospect of Britain renegotiating its positions in the EU). He seems to get plenty of airtime on the dubious BBC, and people claim that the BBC is pro EU, it does after all receive some of our money from the EU I hear.
Anyway, when we vote YES both Scotland and Little Britain will be renegotiating their relationship from within the EU.

Michael Heron

He is such an odious, small-minded little man, but there’s every chance he might yet be the best gift the Yes Scotland campaign could ask for.  If the polls show a huge majority support for independence in the event of a Tory government, imagine how they’ll shoot up at the (perfectly possible) prospect of a UKIP/Tory coalition.

G H Graham

Farage’s Policy on EU
Wants UK out of EU = Good
Claims EU would throw independent Scotland out of EU = Bad

Conclusion
Idiot

scottish_skier

Rev ” Has Martin McGuinness made any provocative comments on Scottish independence?”
The DUP / Orange Order have made various interventions in support of the union with the former part of Better Together (indirectly you might argue) through them being in ‘coalition’ with the current UK government (they take the Tory whip). In contrast I’ve not personally come across any obvious, widely publicised support for YesScotland by Sinn Fein. Their interest is the reunification of Ireland after all as noted.

cath

“stating as fact that Scotland would be out of the EU and have to join to Euro because Barroso said so.”

So he’s come up here, to speak for the No campaign, with a message which will push any No campaign supporters who are UKIPers into the Yes camp? That sounds exactly like the kind of ignorant, total lack of understanding you’d expect from Farage.

G H Graham

“Farage backs Scottish Independence”
His demand for a UK referendum which if successful, would see the UK exit the EU & would result in exactly the same outcome if Scotland were to vote Yes in the 2014 referendum.
According to Farage, Scotland would exit the EU even faster than the UK, a massive benefit for Scots, that the rest of the UK could only envy. Farage suggests that Scotland would exit the EU sometime between 2014 & 2016 whereas the UK would have to wait until at least 2016 just to get their referendum out of the way.
By voting for Independence in 2014, Scots will exit the EU years before the rest of the UK. And it is getting out of Europe that is one of the primary policy initiatives of the UKIP.
One can only conclude then that Farage supports the idea of Scotland achieving full sovereign independence since it achieves his desire to exit the european community as quickly as possible.
Who knew support for Scottish Independence was so firmly rooted in middle England, extreme right wing, pro British, pro Empire, pro Royalist politics?

Adrian B

How many MEPs do UKIP actually have, and given their views on Europe, can anyone really believe that they are working for the best deal of the UK when their agenda is to get out of Europe?

Rev “ Has Martin McGuinness made any provocative comments on Scottish independence?”

Funnily enough in 30+ years of the troubles IRA/Sinn Fein managed to avoid including Scotland in the politics and/or terrorist activities.
It took UK government Foreign Policy to drag us onto the target, Cheers for that.

“Given that the pro-union campaign are quite adamant that Scotland will be promptly and forcibly removed from the EU the instant a Yes vote is returned, surely Farage should be backing YesScotland?”

Excellent point.  One might also ask why, with Scotland having >50% in favour of EU membership in the  polls compared to significantly less than 50% support indicated in England, he would want Scotland to participate in Cameron’s promised Referendum at all? Looks like the turkey voting for Christmas. Due apologies to turkeys everywhere.

Ray

I don’t think Farage is an idiot as such, I just think this throws up another example of Scotland and England being completely different in wants and needs. Like the PM telling those in England that Britain is broken but telling Scots everythings’ pip and dandy, Farage makes it clear pretty simply that Scotland should govern itself. If a politician can say one thing in regards to the UK then the opposite in regards to Scotland, it’s clear something doesn’t fit. I think if I lived in England I would contemplate a UKIP vote (but then I always keep all options open). But in Scotland at the moment, never. It’s a ridiculous situation for this to occur.

muttley79

Farage obviously does not do irony.  He wants to quit one union, and yet is against Scotland doing just that to another union.  It looks like he has been given the unionist line to waffle.  Farage is very lucky to have appeared at a time when there is a lack of quality in England in political terms.  If Nick Clegg can be Deputy PM then..  It is no surprise to see him joining the rest of the British Nationalist right wingers in the No campaign.

Dunc

The press (and a depressingly large portion of the public, apparently) loves a comedy buffoon. How else to explain the success of Nigel Farange and Boris Johnson, never mind Christopher Monckton and James Delingpole? Reasonable people are too boring. It’s a vicious circle too – the press gives them exposure because their antics attract viewers / readers, which then encourages them to even more extreme antics (and also encourage others to ape them), which makes sane and reasonable people seem even more boring, so the press looks for even more ridiculous buffoons, and around and around we go…

CameronB

Does he have any votes to loose in Scotland – no. There you have it, he is the perfect unionist weapon of mass depression. Comes up hear to scare the Jocks into accepting austerity is not that bad after all, while he is risking nothing. Indirectly, his message is also received in Londonshire, with similar benefit to ConDem. Seems like some folk have omitted Machiviaelli from their reading lists.

Luigi

Farange certainly has his finger on the pulse south of the border. Up here in North Britain, however, he hasn’t a clue. he just doesn’t get it. The UK is so wonderful, noone in their right mind would ever want to leave it. Such is the BritNat mindset.

CameronB

(cont.) But the MSM are not thick, so why are they not laughing their heads of at the arrogance of Union & Co. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to see through this one. Just as well we get 16 weeks.

Hate it when I get distracted mid rant.

james morton

The man is, as my old gran would have said: A bigger bum than ten arses – and if you consider the rest of the better together front line, he’s up against some pretty stiff competition.

Geoff Huijer

Says a lot about the Herald that they would give someone
like this the oxygen of publicity. But, unfortunately, it is
no surprise.
It also says a lot about the electorate that people like
him and Boris Johnson (as already mentioned) are able
to get into these positions; perhaps it says more about the lack
of quality politicians though.

douglas clark

I think BoJo and NiFa have taken the dictum that “politics is show business for ugly people” a bit too literally.

They both like playing the clown and I hate clowns!

Yesitis

Geoff Huijer – Says a lot about the Herald that they would give someone
like this the oxygen of publicity. But, unfortunately, it is
no surprise.
Probably not a good decision for a pro-union “newspaper”. Mr Farage has almost certainly brought a good few more undecideds into the Yes camp; he seems to do that every time he is offered airtime. Nice.

The Man in the Jar

@douglas clark
Talking of clowns.
Neil Hamilton UKIP
Need I say more?

I’m sure you’ve all seen this, but still worth a laugh

CameronB

Clowns are scarey, but Farage is not a clown. He is scarey though.

Luigi

Indeed, Nigel Farange is a clever guy. Perhaps he does get Scotland and is just coming up here to cause mischief? If so, the No-campaign better brace themselves. The EU applecart is about to be upset big time.

Luigi

For some reason I keep calling him “Fara(n)ge”. Mental block. Apologies.

frankieboy

The ultimate troll, and he gets paid for it.

leswil

I liked watching Farage on some utube clips from the European parliament, he is amusing to watch him being a pain in their arse’s. They made me laugh.
Being the thorn in the side of Europe, is his forte, he will find out Scotland will be nothing like Europe to deal with, not sure he will have the stomach for that despite his bluster. He says he will be trying very hard to get Ukip MP’s and MSP’s in the next relevant elections. When that fails after all the money and work done, he will again retreat back to where he came from.

Vronsky

Oh, come on, be fair.  Doesn’t he look fantastic?

CameronB

A proper City gent.

BillyBigbaws

Remember when the UKIP Glasgow website got hacked and defaced in the run-up to the 2011 elections?  A terrible thing to do, of course, and it was clearly done by some disgruntled UKIPPer (or maybe BNPer) who seemed to think the party weren’t right wing enough, but I have to admit I’m still laughing about it now.

When I’m ninety I will still remember it fondly from time to time.  It will be stored in the same part of my brain as that official Lib Dem smear leaflet, the one that featured a picture of Alex Salmond in Arab dress with his arm round a camel.

Scottish politics is rarely as laugh out loud funny as the US or Russian equivalents, but it has it’s moments.  Anyone who missed the hack attack at the time can see it preserved here, but WARNING, very strong language indeed:

link to 4.bp.blogspot.com

The funniest thing about UKIP is just how much (like the Tories) they love Europe, and cling to it, and how desperately they need the EU to survive.  Let’s face it, most of their top talent would be unemployable if the EU didn’t exist right now, since Jeremy Clarkson-style commentators and anti-windfarm shills are ten-a-penny.

You can tell how serious they are about Scotland by the fact that they thought it would be okay to put Screaming Lord Monckton in charge up here.

douglas clark

Billybigbaws,

You have no idea how annoying it is to have to type that.

—————————————–

You say:

“You can tell how serious they are about Scotland by the fact that they thought it would be okay to put Screaming Lord Monckton in charge up here.”

You are quite correct. This is a man who considers global warming a scam. This is a man who produced a puzzle book that he thought was unbreakable, that was broken and cost him a lot of money. This is a man that is a leader of UKIP.

Nuff said.

CameronB

@ douglas clark

You are on good form today and I don’t want to go OT, but have I not convinced you to reconsider your position, even a tiny bit? You know the one I mean.

BillyBigbaws

@ douglas clark,
“You have no idea how annoying it is to have to type that.”
—————
I have to type it every time I post!

At the risk of being the guy who just posts links and videos all the time, this is one UKIP video that never fails to cheer me up in times of trouble.  Fast forward to 0.40 and then enjoy the madness as a senior UKIPper brings himself close to tears at the very idea of Scotland having a devolved Parliament.

Stand-out line:  “The Scottish Parliament is a result of constitutional genetic engineers.”

Scotrock

The University of Glasgow just said NO
Seems like the Scottish Government should now start charging for further education – they want to be like the UK fine by me.
Sad and perhaps there is now no chance of a yes vote. I always thought that our young people had intelligence and were the future of Scotland

DMW42

The Put Scotland Down campaign were handing out leaflets in Stirling this morning; I didn’t see any ‘takers’ – apart from the ones handing out the leaflets!
