Thought for the evening
There can surely have been no real doubt that the SFA was going to (at least) uphold the ban on Rangers registering any new players for a year. Having just published a 63-page dossier setting out in meticulous and crushing detail the severity of the club’s crimes, the Association would have set some sort of world record for “All-Time Largest Rod For Your Own Back” had they then backed down on the punishment.
What occurs to us, though, is that the upholding of the ban makes it considerably more likely that a Newco Rangers (which has to be the only plausible future – a CVA is purest delusional fantasy) will be admitted directly to the SPL.
The league’s nightmare scenario is New Rangers winning the title in 2012/13, because then they really will be seen to have gotten away with everything. If the club is forced to field a team of old journeymen and fresh-faced teens that gets a lot less likely, and the gutless SPL chairmen will probably feel that the Ibrox side will be sufficiently humbled by a few seasons of mid-table finishes that their own clubs might just avert a disastrous boycott from angry fans, while still clinging onto the Sky Sports deal.
We’re not sure they’d be right in that assumption, but we suspect it’s one they might make anyway, and that tonight’s events will strengthen their belief in it. Time will tell.

Inverness ‘need Rangers in SPL’

Terry Butcher reckons it would be a “disaster” for Inverness if Rangers were not playing in the SPL next season.
comment- Conflict of interests there – if a club is dependant on the survival of Rangers and the survival of Rangers is dependant on them reaching CL football, who’s to say it’s not also in the interest of those clubs to lie down to them in the league.
Killie, ICT and St Mirren et al can GTF as well then.
I am hoping that the cheats get hoofed out and have to hand back all their trophies which were won unfairly using players they shouldn’t have been able to afford.
For the sake of fairness, and to stop Sandy Jardine coming to my door, I think that all tax dodging, cheating teams should be hoofed out of their respective leagues.
What’s that you say, there’d be hardly any teams left?
Oh dear, what a pity.
Spineless cowards spoiling it for everyone once again.
“Spineless cowards spoiling it for everyone once again.”
For everyone do you mean Celtic fans ? In that you are hoping the financial implosion of Rangers will lead to Celticdomination ?
There are more than two teams in the world, you know.
I’m not hoping for Celtic domination, as a Hibby it would suit us if the pseudo-Irish club went bust, but that’s not how it is, if RFC go under Hearts will probably get more income which wouldn’t help Hibs. But not the issue as Airdrie, Livvi, Dundee and the teams that are trading legally would tell you.
Rangers are not the object of hate to me that they are to some people. My grannie supported Rangers and her first question on Satdy night was always What was the score(the Hibs score)?
If you know your history 😉 there’s a research project to be done how many matches Hibs and Rangers played for Catholic and Protestant charities and relief funds before it all went sour (1888-ish).
All the best
