I appreciate this might be an unppopular stance, but, I looked-up Williamson’s profile. He went to a comprehensive school in Scarborough, then on to the University of Bradford.

Therefore, by definition he: “Isn’t one of us.” Not a public schoolboy, not Oxbridge, not a Bullingdon Boy.

OK, he could still have done it, but, lacked the support network or the belief, ingrained into him over the generations: rules don’t apply to me, or the similarly ingrained ability to do what he likes and not worry about the consequences – consequences being for the little people

    Man, that is brilliant.

I actually think he didn’t do it – the leak, not the wee – but he has been used as the fall guy, or was set up.

You need to remember he was chief whip prior to defence, so he no doubt had many who would like to see him punished. The whole thing stinks – the leak, not the wee- to high heaven, of Tory vested interests, with so many Tory scumbags actually employed by Huawei.

I think this will run and run – the leak, not the wee- since Williamson is sounding pretty aggrieved, and as ex chief whip he will know ‘dirt’ on people.

What a thoroughly dysfunctional Tory government it is. Thousands of seats lost in English council elections, and still the clown Theresa won’t go. The public don’t want her, Tories don’t want her and Parliament doesn’t want her. What an utter sad sack of a creature she is, clinging on to her job. Pathetic.

And despite all of this, Corbyn and Labour is still unelectable.

Oh, I’ve just realised. This sacking was done to appease the Chinese government. Williamson upset them recently, leading to trade talks collapsing, and I do not doubt The Government was told by the Chinese ambassador, that trade talks could resume if he was sacked. Sp Theresa had to find an excuse to sack him. They knew he wasn’t well liked.

By sacking him due to the leak, even although he was innocent, they achieved two things. Firstly, they appeased the chinese (just watch as trade talks resume shortly), AND they end speculation over what is an incredible major security breach at the heart of government. Williamson was asked to resign, but refused, so had to be sacked, and that is why it got messy. Had he played ball, and meekly resigned, the spads in 10 Downing street would have been high-fiving all afternoon.

But it didn’t quite go to plan. Like I say, the whole things stinks. They still do not really know who the leak came from.

If Williamson was the source of the leak then he should be prosecuted for breaking the Official Secrets Act. The fact the May has refused to refer it to the police to me smacks of her not being anywhere near as convinced of his guilt as she is publically claiming. She’s not going to risk a police investigation that might prove he was innocent, she was wrong, and someone ‘more important’ was the guilty party. Like everything about this incompetent shower at Westminster, it stinks to high heaven.

This has echoes of the whole Frenchgate thing but without the common sense to do it on a Friday so there’s a weekend before the truth can be investigated.

In that case I believe it was Charmichael’s SPAD who leaked making it two steps removed from Mundell. But not actually alleviating him from his responsibility under the Ministerial Code which still bound him even during an election.

However there is little to no chance of any trial under the Official Secrets Act as it is optional due to the fact that the trial itself might reveal more than the leak itself. Speaking of which there I remember vaguely the MoD choosing not to prosecute a naval rating for blowing the whistle on nuclear subs and contamination for similar reasons.

An investigation, however, might be expected. Williamson is kind of in the position Salmond has been placed but unless he finds some way of clearing his name or take it to court has less hope of recovery.

To his dismay, the teenage Ralph Miliband came across antisemitism in London. In a diary entry made shortly after he arrived in Britain, he wrote:
“The Englishman is a rabid nationalist. They are perhaps the most nationalist people in the world … When you hear the English talk of this war you sometimes almost want them to lose it to show them how things are. They have the greatest contempt for the continent in general and for the French in particular. They didn’t like the French before the defeat … Since the defeat, they have the greatest contempt for the French Army … England first. This slogan is taken for granted by the English people as a whole. To lose their empire would be the worst possible humiliation”

The Mail as is usual when there is bad news for the Tories has a different topic and doesn’t mention Tory woes. No mention of SNP in English editions.

What a great weapon to have. Scottish newspapers controlled from London who dictate what to say and have their own newspaper editions especially for that. We are winning slowly but surely and momentum will increase.

It would be interesting to see the attendance at the Scottish Tory Conference in Aberdeen – some pictures would be good. Forget BBC, they only show pictures from back of hall starting where seats are occupied so that it looks full or they pan the camera selectively.

” … Launching a two-year campaign to become the first Scottish Conservative government in 2021, she is expected to warn that the SNP will continue arguing “that they can’t make things better without putting us all through another referendum first”.”

I have to wonder at that phrase, “putting us through another referendum first”. Does it not, perhaps, have the ring of abject terror about it?

This beggars the obvious question of, “What is it about another referendum that so frightens all segments of the unionist political spectrum?”

Just what is so fear inducing about a referendum? Why the overblown reactions against the Scottish electorate marking a wee cross on a ballot paper?

Unless, of course, it isn’t fear of a referendum, per se, but the fear of the result of that particular referendum.

Now while I cannot accept their terror of referendums as a concept I can understand it as fear of facing losing their, “Precious”. union. For with the ending of the United Kingdom the Kingdom of Scotland will remain firmly attached physically to the Kingdom of England.

While both former United Kingdom partners in the, “Precious”, union remain solidly static, what figuratively sails off into the distance from a unionist perspective is the Westminster cash cow, the fabled, “Westminster money tree”, that are the physically real natural fixed assets of The Kingdom of Scotland.

These have kept the good ship England afloat for over 300 years.

Now I can understand THAT inducing fear and terror in even the staunchest unionist heart.

This is the thin end of the wedge of unwinding the devolution “settlement” and the eventual downgrading of the Scottish Parliament.

Imagine if they start with taking the NHS commissioning budget under control and start selling off bits of the SNHS to Virgin Care and the likes. Then they take the education budget and start selling off Scottish schools to privately run academies. Then they come for Scottish Water and sell it off to their spiv buddies in the City. Etc, etc.

I have heard recently Davidson make that her ambition, I can’t remember where I’m afraid. The largest party would normally take the FM role, I can’t see Labour going down that route, they would disintegrate. So that leaves the LibDem’s, definitely a possibility as they are merely Tories that like to hide the fact.

Or the Greens, if the right promises were made I wouldn’t trust them an inch. So a Tory/LibDem/Green agreement is the most likely.

I await her vision of the future, prescription charges, tuition fees, bedroom tax, personal care charges, SNHS privatisation, it’s quite a list of features attractive to mostly the well off.

I’m not sure you are correct. If the SNP after the next scot elections are the single biggest party, they can continue on as a minority government, even if all the rabid red yellow and blue tory unionists disagree.

However, on a wider point, it is abundantly clear that Westminster intends removing the powers of the parliament and eventually reasoning that in such circumstances it is an expensive talking shop and needs closed. They literally HATE the Scots parliament, and campaigned against it being set up in the first place.

This is a REAL warning to the SNP scotgov. If you are not attacking, you are defending. It is that freaking simple. Their is no status quo, with these tory lying bas*****.

You wrote: ” But I wonder why there hasn’t been any more outrage at Gove’s threat for the UK government to take control of some of the Scottish Government’s budget and run public services in Scotland from Westminster. This is the thin end of the wedge of unwinding the devolution “settlement” and the eventual downgrading of the Scottish Parliament.”

You are right to highlight this and call it out as a major threat.

Interestingly, something similar to Gove’s statements were made by PM May in 2017. I replicate below much of a post I made here on 13 July, 2017.

On 3rd May 2017 Craig Murray posted a cautionary article under the title ‘Theresa May moves to replace devolution with Westminster control’. This followed a speech by May in Glasgow (https://www.craigmurray.org.uk/page/6/ ).

What follows are extracts from her speech:

“.. the devolution of powers across the United Kingdom must not mean we become a looser and weaker union. We cannot allow our United Kingdom to drift apart. For too long the attitude in Whitehall has been to ‘devolve and forget.”

“.. as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, I am just as concerned that young people in Dundee get a good start in life and RECEIVE THE EDUCATION THEY NEED (my emphasis) to reach their full potential as I am about young people in Doncaster and Dartford.”

“We need to build a new ‘collective responsibility’ across the United Kingdom, which UNITES ALL LAYERS OF GOVERNMENT, to work positively together to improve the lives of everyone in our country. As the Government serving the whole United Kingdom, formed in a Parliament drawn from the whole United Kingdom, the UK Government exercises a responsibility on behalf of the whole UK that transcends party politics and ENCOMPASSES ALL ASPECTS of our national life.”

Craig Murray’s take on May’s speech then was notable. He stated: “In Glasgow today she notified Scotland of a specific intention for Westminster to intervene in devolved areas to ‘improve outcomes’ in Scotland. There is no other possible logical analysis ….”

In this context, we need to remember the work underway to create the new so called civil service ‘hub’ in Edinburgh. I’ve seen it described in these terms: “create a centre of excellence for the DELIVERY OF PUBLIC SERVICES IN SCOTLAND (my emphasis) and facilitate more effective working between GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS WITHIN A DEVOLVED ADMINISTRATION.”

And note the now constant repetition – at every opportunity and at every possible place – of the Tory mantra of an SG failing over critical public services in Scotland because of its focus on independence. Then recall the absence of presentation of Tory policies designed for Holyrood government. Just a careful, gradual but constant negativity about SG competence and achievement: all part of a longer game preparing the groundwork to justify Westminster interventions which will over-ride the devolution settlement?

Right wing Tories are supporting him, only because they HATE May, of course.

Were he a Civil Servant he’d have been dismissed and facing a criminal investigation and the prospect of jail. It has previously happened.

He has been demoted and his prospects of attaining high office look, for the moment, slim. He keeps his MPs job, salary and pension. He retains a platform from which to criticise his old boss and slag off the senior civil Servant who conducted the investigation. Through friends he claims this is a ‘conspiracy’ to oust him by said Civil Servant.

I used to be a Civil Servant, not at this level, and I can assure you of two things. Civil Servants really ARE impartial, they take a pride in it (The Civil Service Code) and secondly, this is EXACTLY what politicians are like 24/7. Churlish, lying, backstabbing horrors of people who are stupid enough to break the law and be surprised when it bites them on the arse. The will expect Civil Servants to do the same and are always shocked when their instructions are refused as ILLEGAL or in breach of the Civil Service Code.

I’d feel sorry for him but, no wait, I’d NEVER feel sorry for him. He hasn’t even gotten what he deserves…
