Minor blogroll update

Posted on February 13, 2013 by

As veteran readers will know, we like to keep our blogroll fresh so that it offers only the leanest and juiciest collection of unmissable sites for when you’ve devoured every last page of Wings Over Scotland. This month we’ve had a small prune to make room for some new blood, if you’ll forgive the mixed metaphor.

Out go the Herald and Scotsman because, hey, you know fine where the Herald and Scotsman are. That freed a couple of slots which we’ve given to the all-encompassing “Dundee wifey” Subrosa and Liberal Democrat Voters For Independence, both very welcome additions which broaden our outlook considerably.

We’ve also hoofed the Spectator’s braying Fraser Nelson out of the Zany Comedy Relief section for not gracing us with any Scottish-themed doltishness in weeks, and his replacement is a grassroots Labour blog that we think you’re going to love to bits. Ladies and gents, please revel in the positive case for the Union that is Niko’s Bar.

Otherwise, as you were. Suggestions always welcomed.

I’d agree that their is “no great mischief” in removing the Herald and Scotsman, and I rarely look at them these days, but just occasionally their comments sections do come up with classic lines.
Unionist poster “The simple question for the independence campaign to answer is “what problem does it solve?””
    Nationalist reply”Not being independent.”
I’m still smiling, and looking forward to using that line in the meat world.

Have read some of Nico’s blogging. Another mamory or if one prefers an equine anus, should give some good entertainment. (no, no no, not like that. God your minds.)

Had a wee look in at Nico’s bar. I see from the photo that this is where the NO campaign  have their meeting accompanied by a lot of green foliage and not many people. What do they have to hide and is it alex salmond’s fault? We should be telt!

Is that the Niko/Nikostratos/other variants that posts on Munguin’s Republic?  Tris seems to treat him like some sort of pet that isn’t quite house-trained yet.

I’ve just had a look at that Nico’s Bar thingy. Crikey! It’s like listening outside a mental asylum.
He has an advert: UK. OK.

I suggest it would be more appropriate to have : UK = Oik.

Thanks for sharing, Rev, I guess. I like the way the internet has replaced days out at Bedlam. At least on the web the reason-challenged have chosen to be exhibits.

CameronB. Don’t even bother getting into it with Wikipedia. Their moderators seem to consist mainly of pubescent laddies sitting in their basements in the US midwest who only take time off from internet porn to have little power trips on Wikipedia. Wikipedia tends to be really shite about any Scottish subjects anyway!

It was satisfyingly good fun though while it lasted. 🙂 It is just a pity I didn’t know how to archive the pages once I had made the changes, if that is at all possible.

@CameronB – What pages did you change? All page revisions on Wikipedia are archived! You can look at any past version of a page just by clicking “View history” in the top-right corner. I like to keep the “Scottish independence referendum, 2014” page up to date, and I’ve never had any problems, since I always write impartially and include quotes and citations.

    Thanks for the tip.

I suppose I was a bit naughty, but I managed to change all the “Scotland” and “Scottish” to “North of England”, for SLAB, Captain D, the Lamentable One and Ian Davidson. I couldn’t get around to any more before they all started reverting. I’ve not had an account long enough to get at the big one, the page for Scotland itself.

Good for you man. Get stuck right intae them. If the gravatar you’re using is indeed an image of your good self then they won’t mess with you anytime soon for fear of ending up in a half-nelson.

I’ve had run-ins with the female of the species whom I will attest is more detestable than the male.

Besides an unerring cluelessness about the subject upon which they deign to opine, another characteristic of some who police these pages seems to be clinical presentations of narcism.

I think it was JK Galbraith who observed (or I may have made it up) that, “There is a class of person who, by the very nature of their certainty, both assume leadership and are conceded leadership“. That makes for a dangerous world.

    Be careful out there
