Peter, Good on you, course you should support your home team! The ‘anyone but England’ ‘mentality’ is not due to lack of indy – it is due to the relentless, never ending nonsense in the English (i.e. British) media, from the ‘BBC’ thru print trash thru sports commentators.
As for Scotland trying harder next time; Scottish people are obviously not programmed to make political -oops- football decisions; we’re shite at football. Let’s scrap the football team and put the resources into Scottish Rugby – they sometimes win!

The non support of Englands football team has nothing to do with football, the reason half the world was cheering at Englands defeat is for exactly the same reason as to why *UK* will never win the Eurovision song contest anytime ever

English people supporting their team are doing exactly as they should but the politics and behaviour of their political leaders and the English media are totally to blame for nobody else supporting the English National team

English people living in Scotland will be well aware that Scotland has no media of its own and Scots are rightly annoyed because of it, you may ask yourself why does Scotland have no media of its own and that is because the UK considers broadcasting a power which they refuse to devolve to Scotland and you have to ask yourself if you’re living in a democracy and are entitled to free speech why does the UK government insist on the control of freedom of speech

So the England football team or anything else England based will never ever be supported in Scotland by Scottish people until the UK government cease to be a dictatorship and become a partner like they’ve continually promised but never intend to really be because the powers that be in England are for Empire or nothing

The Union of the two Kingdoms has been over for a long time the respect has long gone and without that we’re only now experiencing the final death throes of the last of the British Empire and thank God for it

Maybe when Scotland has removed itself from this Union England will then realise it’s just a country like every other country and begin to get along with other countries instead of getting on top of other countries

I think back to 2003 and the run up to England playing the wallabies in the rugby World Cup final. Folk who complain about the English sports press really need to hear a rerun of the way the Aussie press behaved during that campaign. It was quite incredible.

I was delighted watching Mr Wilkinson shove it right back in their face! Sadly the London press heaped much of the praise on (sir) Clive Woodward, when the real leaders were a half dozen of the best rugby players England have ever had.

    Anyone think that likely?

Watching the english play in this tournament has been a bit like watching Englands government over the last two years.

The medias overreaction to england playing pub teams and not having to face a single meanignfull game against a top 15 ranked team on route to and including the semi is reminiscent of tory party press department telling may to walk about saying strong and stable , while we all know both team and government are anything but.

The penalty victory over colombia was similar to mays wounding at the general election , where deep flaws were exposed and the croatia game must be a euphemism for the brexit iceberg of reality slamming home and eliminating this government from the political tournament and fantasy these people live in on a daily basis.

Trump has been before with hardly anyone noticing. The NE golf course is beautifully laid out and landscape. From the previous mess. More tourists come to play it. After the Oil down turn caused by Tory too high taxes, when the price had fallen. 40% since Jan 2016. 30% Corporation tax and 10% supplementary. The Tories ruined the Oil & Gas sector in Scotland. Lost £Billions and thousands of jobs. Scotland could have had full employment,

Labour and the Greens. The Labour crooks who have ruined the City colluding with the Tories. Two job Tory backing. £1.2Billion in debt. Traffic chaos. Building shops, offices and hotels getting into debt, (£200Million+). There are shops and offices lying empty. Hotels under occupied. A concrete mess. Instead of building affordable houses and schools. Teachers short. Cutting essential services funding allocation. A concrete mess. The grotesque monstrosity costing £Millions when people want pedestrianisation and open spaces. Spending £30Million on a Art Gallery renovation shut for five years that they can’t afford. No money for it. Just more wasted.

The Greens blocked the road for years, blocked house building and the expansion of the airport and the Golf Development. Wasting £Billions. A bunch of wasters. SNH, NTS Reactionary institutions.

    at Club or Country Level.

It seems that England were the better team last night?
But they lost because they have a young inexperienced
Team and those devious Croations fielded older more experience players?

Firstly, England have no teenagers playing, secondly, their great manager picked their
Best players and knew who was in the Croations team!!!

Media and English Zimbie fans devoid of reality now know that England are going to win
The European Championship in 2 years time,
and the World Cup in 4.??

That too will be without any expectations?

England have a population some 14 times the size
Of their victors. England claims to have the biggest and best,
As well as richest football league in the world.
They haven’t endured a recent war like Croatia,
They are a richer nation with better training facilities,

So despite wall to wall negative anti-Yes propaganda from the Establishment there is an increase in Yes support.

Human nature is fascinating at times. For those who expected there to be a sudden increase for Yes because of the Brexit shambles, it does work like that. People still remain cautious . It takes time for a lot of people to change sides, the seeds are there, we just need to cultivate it, sure the Establishment will come along with weed-killer to try and stop it’s growth but in the sunshine of a good campaign we can harvest their support.

Whether Scotland wins or loses, whether it’s rugby, football, or cricket, whether it’s a National Side or a club side, whether it’s professional or amateur, there is always a nagging doubt in my head running along the lines of “if that’s our current standing, how much better or worse would we be with our Independence, our own National media actually backing our team, and no longer saddled with sectarian and unionist division, but simply “All Scotland Together”, no distractions, no manipulation, no prejudice in broadcasting rights and revenues.

To that extent, I don’t care what England does. Win, lose, or draw, the result has nothing to do with me. Support England? Bizarre question. Why would I? I’m confused. Frankly, the expectation that I might support England seems surreal given the ubiquitous “high regard” for Scotland which seems to preoccupy English fans and commentators.

The problem I recognise is Scotland’s bizarre and mediocre Sporting “limbo”, which is a constant deep rooted frustration and underachievement, but it is made ten time worse when there is the constant gloating and arrogance of BBC and ITV pundits butting in where they’re just not wanted. The BBC in particular is evidence of hypocrisy on stilts, considering the miserly sums they pay for Scottish broadcasting rights.

Get rid of the 3rd rate BritNat Broadcasting, get rid of the cynical BritNat agenda, get rid of the malevolent BritNat interference, and finally, for better or worse, just let Scotland flourish on its own merit and commitment, and just enjoy whatever success and competitiveness we can generate when free of outside interference. What is wrong with that?

England’s problems with performance, hooliganism, corruption, arrogance, exceptionalism, … whatever. These are England’s problems, not mine. Why the feck do you expect me to care about them when there is no reciprocal attention given to Scotland’s dramas and problems? Should I care about France? Or Germany? Our Outer Mongolia? Why England?

I just long for the day when I can enjoy Scottish sport which hasn’t been twice strained through a cynical BritNat – English tea bag first.

If Scotland was Independent, that would be an everyday, unremarkable normality. Doesn’t seem too much to ask for… And no more fecking cricket. (Even if we did beat England). To be honest, news we actually had an International Cricket team was as big a surprise to me as Scotland having an international Rugby League team. Who knew???

I do feel sorry for many of the England supporters with such raised hopes and obvious excitement to brighten their lives. But it is the (mis)behaviour of many of the hooligan and loud-mouthed fanatical element of England supporters, coupled with the assumption that all other peoples must support the England team, the sense of entitlement encouraged by a hysterical media, which fosters the ABE response.

So when the slower minded people who read the British Nationalist and Orange Lodge periodicals eventually find out their beloved newspapers of choice have been screwing them over for decades do these same newspapers envisage the fact they’re creating their own doom because if there’s one true fact about Scots, and that’s all Scots they really don’t like being lied to and made a fool of

Especially by who they think is their own

Think on Daily Record, when it hits you it’ll be massive just like what happened to the SUN in Liverpool except in Scotland you might never recover

Mainly because they won’t have to listen or watch the hype on radio and TV. They quite liked Southagate neatly dressed.

Nearly all reading the daily record or the daily mail though.

So back to normal tomorrow all gloom and doom in Scotland and tuning into antiques road show.

    Regarding Donald Trump.

The guy just does not bother me one way or another.

I just don’t get angry at him OR excited by him. In my opinion he seeks publicity, so the best way to get back at him (if you are against him) is to IGNORE him.

The guy will be off in a day or two to meet his best mate Putin, who Treeza demonises every day of the week.

Treeza and her Isolated Brexit England will have nobody to turn to when they are finally out of the EU.

This is all good for Scottish Independence.

If the English want to make enemies with both Russia and the USA then please don’t disturb them.

What kind of Scum sucking newspapering is this, the only political violence that has taken place in Scotland in recent times has been carried out by British Nationalist Rangers football shirt wearing head cases who believe the earth is flat and their Queen rules the waves

I don’t know what powers the Scottish government might have in this area but garbage like this from a garbage pumping rag must be stopped

At no time has Police Scotland even hinted at any kind of violence ever threatened by anyone over Trumps stupid visit and it’s a whole lot more likely any protests planned will be of the humiliating the shit out of Trump variety

With headlines like this the Herald has shown itself to be even worse than the Daily Mail, and that’s not easy to do

I feel sorry for the England squad/fans. They played well and did really well to reach the semis (they are not one of the top four football teams in 2018). Over-achievement is no bad thing. The best team won last night.

I do find all this Scottish gloating about it to be rather distasteful. I fully undertstand it, but it does the indy cause no good – just feeds into the “racist nats hate the English” narrative so loved by the MSM. Why give them more ammo? Besides, we have many friends in the English scots for YES, so for me I support our neighbour England (to an extent) when they play.

The problem is not the English team or the English people (or most of the fans even). The problem is with the media. They deliberately hype everything up (leading to unrealistic expectations, followed by a nasty blame game when it all goes belly-up).

It’s not even a simple media problem – any nation on earth would get a bit excited if their team reached the world cup semis. No the problem, as others have hinted at, is that Scotland has no national media – we are expected to go along with the ride when England do well and many scots understandably resent that.

Croatia have done really well. A tiny country half the size of Scotland, with half the population, are now in a world cup finally (and deservedly so). So, when we get told by the ‘experts’ that Scotland is too wee to do well at international football, you can stick that in their faces.

If England regularly over-achieves at football, then Scotland under-achieves. Why is that? Perhaps we should ask the ‘experts’ – those BritNat blazers that run the SFA. Their pathetic ‘too wee’ attitude seems to permeate the whole game in Scotland from local clubs to the national side. Get rid of the blazers and let’s see what we can do.

It is also different to the comedy style of Dateline 2018.

The Scotsman bends it another way by headlining *Half of Scots don’t want Sturgeons referendum* well of course that means that half of Scots actually do want one…

It’s all Orwellian style Tory b#*!ocks. The Hootsman, indeed the whole crumbling edifice of Unionism, apparently finds a democratic majority which doesn’t want any more democracy.

That whole anti-Independence campaign strategy is a prime example undiluted doublethink taken straight from the pages of George Orwell’s dystopian 1984.

“Doublethink is the ability to hold two completely contradictory beliefs at the same time and to believe they are both true.”

“Breeks@0941 a.m. “ , just suppose that England had won last night , and gone on and actually lifted the trophy against France . The EBC ,Sky and other network channels would have been in blanket coverage mode probably for the next 2 to 3 weeks, and thereafter daily mentions for the next fifty years . Everything else ( including Brexit) would be completely blanked for days or even weeks . The homecoming, the visits to Downing st , statements in the HOC , visits to the Palace ( meetings with Harry&Wills ),( Arise Sir Gareth Sir Harry Kane etc etc) . Never ending colour supplements in the papers , Sunday papers etc. ( the remainder of the Amazon rain forest would be at risk) . National holidays declared ,etc. You begin to get the picture.
Now , just suppose ( fantasy I know ) that instead of England , it was actually Scotland that had progressed to the Semi final& onto the Final , and had miraculously lifted the trophy. Undoubtedly , there would be blanket network coverage with “ national” broadcasters sent up to Glasgow airport to cover the homecoming etc. ( for about 2 days) . Undoubtedly the “ Scottish editions” of the London owned newspapers would have virtual blanket coverage back to front , and undoubtedly Scottish politicians would be to the fore to greet our heroes.
However, after 2 or 3 days of extended coverage on the EBC and Sky etc., thereafter “ our win” would be relegated to the same status as if Croatia, France, Brazil, Germany , Belgium or any other “foreign team” had won the tournament ie Scotland’s win as far as the London owned and controlled media was concerned would have been considered in that context.
This is exactly what is completely unacceptable as regards the present “ state” of broadcasting ( England being the state).
