72 to “Back home”

  1. Cubby says:

New song = England’s coming home.

  2. Morgatron says:

Coming home from Croatia tomorrow morning – one of the best nights ive experienced. Sitting looking at the fireworks and flares and poor england fans . Hehehe.

  3. Proud Cybernat says:

Well done guys. Sayin’ it how it is.

Unionist politicians faclitated this. Scotland needs major change.

    Just sayin’.

  4. Ken500 says:

Still going on and on and on.

    Gie’s peace,

  5. auld highlander says:

The way some employers treat their staff is deplorable, only this week I was talking to a youngster who works in a high street restaurant which is part of a national chain, it is due to close for a refurb and the staff are not going to be paid when the refurb is under way, they can’t even arrange a holiday as they don’t know when it is scheduled to happen.

  6. Ken500 says:

Gluttons for punishment. They are showing it again. (Over and over and over again). The background music, ‘it’s coming home’. Gie’s strength.

  7. Bobp says:

Proud cybernat.10.21pm. Spot on, if Scotland were an independent country, we would most likely be rootin for our southern neighbours to win.

  8. Liz g says:

See now I actually feel sorry fur thum..
I think it’s great wee Croatia did good.
I will struggle tae support France against them now!
But I did hate seeing the disappointment the English team and fans hid..
The commentators and pundits not sae much!!! Well not at all really..
As someone completely ignorant of football…. my team is the Wild Boars…. That’s where it’s mare than jist a game…. The outcome matters and “Our Brave Laddies “ actually means something!!

  9. mike cassidy says:

Having realised that I’m only four years younger than the vinyl album –

    I needed that Croatia victory!

  10. doug_bryce says:

    so : back tae brexit.
    its going well aye ?

The government is about to start stockpiling processed food in case of ‘no deal’ Brexit

Ministers draw up secret plans to stockpile processed food in case of a ‘no deal’ Brexit

  11. Liam says:

And if there was ever any doubt about it:

    Big Ben’s restored paint job.

“Big Ben is to revert to its original Victorian colour scheme – featuring Cross of St George shields and dark blue dials and clock hands.”

Lots of George crosses. Lots and lots of them…

  12. Greannach says:

I have no interest in the supernatural and magic, but thank god that bloody dreary football-related money-making spectacle is over. What an effing bore. I suppose it’ll be on again next year. Yawn!

  13. Peter Brunskill says:

SNP member since pledging allegiance in 1974, English born, and passionate for Indy. Don’t expect Scots to support England, but England is where I was born and I’ll continue support my team now and in future.

I think Indy will perhaps bring an end to the ‘anyone but England’ mentality though I may be expecting too much?

Anyway how about Scotland trying a bit harder next time??

  14. Robert Peffers says:

Well quite frankly I had to laugh out loud – not at the English/British team or the fans of English/British football fans but at the report on the BBC text service – the bit that read, “Harry Kane could have doubled the lead but was denied by Croatian goalkeeper Danijel Subastic.

How very dare the goalkeeper do such a despicable thing.

Sheesh! For heaven’s sale, that’s what goalkeeper are supposed to do? These Englander pundits talk a new language called. “cliché”. I think it is related to standard English but I’m not at all sure.

Mind you the Englanders are little worse than the Scottish football pundits – not a single one of them whom has an idea of what a microphone is for or does. Either that or every single one of them is stone deaf.

  15. Jeff says:

    Peter Brunskill midnight:
“England is where I was born and I’ll continue support my team now and in future.I think Indy will perhaps bring an end to the ‘anyone but England’ mentality though I may be expecting too much? Anyway how about Scotland trying a bit harder next time??”

Peter, Good on you, course you should support your home team! The ‘anyone but England’ ‘mentality’ is not due to lack of indy – it is due to the relentless, never ending nonsense in the English (i.e. British) media, from the ‘BBC’ thru print trash thru sports commentators.
As for Scotland trying harder next time; Scottish people are obviously not programmed to make political -oops- football decisions; we’re shite at football. Let’s scrap the football team and put the resources into Scottish Rugby – they sometimes win!
Oh, and while we’re at it close “Rangers” and Celtic too and put the money into Scottish Rugby…..Cat?….Pidgeons…? Regards.

  16. Liz g says:

    Robert Peffers @ 12.01
    Hey Robert…..
    How is things your end.???
I don’t want to open the door to “the numpties” but has everything been settled wi yer laddie to your satisfaction ?
And if yay/or nay…. Are you holding up???
If ye don’t want tae answer.. Just ignore me…. No harm done my friend XXX,, I have been thinkin of ye!!

  17. Dr Jim says:

The non support of Englands football team has nothing to do with football, the reason half the world was cheering at Englands defeat is for exactly the same reason as to why *UK* will never win the Eurovision song contest anytime ever

English people supporting their team are doing exactly as they should but the politics and behaviour of their political leaders and the English media are totally to blame for nobody else supporting the English National team

English people living in Scotland will be well aware that Scotland has no media of its own and Scots are rightly annoyed because of it, you may ask yourself why does Scotland have no media of its own and that is because the UK considers broadcasting a power which they refuse to devolve to Scotland and you have to ask yourself if you’re living in a democracy and are entitled to free speech why does the UK government insist on the control of freedom of speech

So the England football team or anything else England based will never ever be supported in Scotland by Scottish people until the UK government cease to be a dictatorship and become a partner like they’ve continually promised but never intend to really be because the powers that be in England are for Empire or nothing

The Union of the two Kingdoms has been over for a long time the respect has long gone and without that we’re only now experiencing the final death throes of the last of the British Empire and thank God for it

Maybe when Scotland has removed itself from this Union England will then realise it’s just a country like every other country and begin to get along with other countries instead of getting on top of other countries

Nobody is pals with their boss

  18. boris says:

    1. A farmer is allegedly in line to receive £1 million over the next 20 years for heating an empty shed.

    2. A rich landowner heats his large outdoor swimming pool all the year round.

    3. Large factories in Northern Ireland are on course to pocket £1.5 million over two decades for running incentivised biomass boilers all year round in premises that were not heated previously.

4.An unspecified number of scheme users were using boilers to dry wood, then burning the same wood in the boilers to dry more wood – creating a perpetual cycle of use just to claim money.

5.The usage policy of the near 2,128 users is “anything goes, you can do what you want because you can’t be expelled from the scheme”. Only 59 people had applications turned down or discontinued for non-compliance.

  19. Petra says:

Condolences to the English team / people. Well done Croatia.

If they can do it. We can do it.

    Croatia – Population 4.1 million,_1991

How Powerful is Croatia? – Modern Croatian Armed Forces 2017

  20. Kangaroo says:

When the English co-opt Scots; result British Empire.

When the English do things on their own; result Brexit.

Still it’s fun to watch, I wonder what the rest of the week has in store?
Next week we have the late running White Paper; may as well hang it in the outhouse straight off the press.
The following week is the Continuity Bill court case.

    Great entertainment.

  21. twathater says:

Peter Brunskill @ midnight You have every right to support and take pride in your team , personally I am not interested in football I feel it just creates opposing tribes but each to their own .
I do echo the sentiments of Dr Jim @ 12.30am , hopefully when Scotland is independent normal English people will reflect and become aware of the lies and misinformation being used by the establishment and media especially the bbc to subvert the masses

Thanks for your and your fellow English supporters of independence for Scotland

  22. Ghillie says:

Oh well done Croatia! Happy for you!! 🙂

To all the England supporters, I am sorry for your disappointment today.

That’s the horrible thing about competition, someone who has come so far is suddenly seen as a loser. That’s just plain wrong. Isn’t this outcome today the same as winning a bronze?

ANYWAY! High time the totally distracted media got back to their day job and focused on what is happening with the UKexit negotiations.

THAT really is the UK’s life or death worry!

  23. ScottieDog says:

    @Peter Brunskill
Agree peter ‘ABE’ needs to end. I think moving away from London centric broadcasting will change things over time.

I think back to 2003 and the run up to England playing the wallabies in the rugby World Cup final. Folk who complain about the English sports press really need to hear a rerun of the way the Aussie press behaved during that campaign. It was quite incredible.

I was delighted watching Mr Wilkinson shove it right back in their face! Sadly the London press heaped much of the praise on (sir) Clive Woodward, when the real leaders were a half dozen of the best rugby players England have ever had.

  24. Robert Peffers says:

    @Liz g says: 12 July, 2018 at 12:29 am:

    … Hey Robert…..
    How is things your end.???”

My personal health is still not good but is much improved with the new treatments but I still don’t know what the results of the several tests have found was/is the problem(s).

As to the investigations over the sudden death of my youngest lad – except for confirming what I told them, that he had a underlying heart problem, as being the immediate cause of his sudden death, the police investigations are still ongoing but there is no suggestion of anything untoward.

So still no real conclusion and no closure but I assume it is only a case of waiting for the final death certificate.

I don’t want to open the door to “the numpties” but has everything been settled wi yer laddie to your satisfaction?
And if yay/or nay…. Are you holding up???”

The numpties have never been able to bother me since primary one and I don’t want to start letting them bother me now.

It’s nice that Wingers, such as yourself care, Liz g. It does help in lifting the heart.

  25. paul mccormack says:

    Anyway –
Croatia turned up to play football.
England turned up to try and remake history.
Mercifully watched this on Hungarian television
and didnt have to suffer the punditry.

  26. Fred says:

@ Boris, “Warm yer hole with Arlene’s coal!”

  27. Robert Peffers says:

If Wingers have been paying attention they may have noticed the way Scotland’s government and institutions are quietly reacting like never before.

While Westminster is welcoming The Donald and Mundell is, “Looking Forward”, to welcoming Trump’s visit, “on behalf of The British Government”, our First Minister is meeting with Catalonia’s President Quim Torra.

Mr Torra said he wanted to thank Ms Sturgeon for her backing and to thank Scots for supporting Clara Ponsati.

Meanwhile, Labour and the Greens said, Mr Trump was, “Not Welcome”, and that Air Force One should not be allowed to land at the publicly owned by Scotland Prestwick Airport and the Scottish Government watchdog, Scottish Natural Heritage, (SNH), claims that Trump’s Golf Course in the North East has, “Partially destroyed”, the specially protected site it was built on.

  28. Robert Louis says:

Well done Croatia – a wee country that has done well. Frankly, however, I just do not understand how Croatia manages though without some unelected English Tories in London running their country for them like a colony.

  29. Shinty says:

    Interesting video, thank you.

  30. thomas says:

Lets all start calling for England to support their near neighbours in the final as a gesture of solidarity and friendship the way we were told to support ours during this tournament.

    Anyone think that likely?

Watching the english play in this tournament has been a bit like watching Englands government over the last two years.

The medias overreaction to england playing pub teams and not having to face a single meanignfull game against a top 15 ranked team on route to and including the semi is reminiscent of tory party press department telling may to walk about saying strong and stable , while we all know both team and government are anything but.

The penalty victory over colombia was similar to mays wounding at the general election , where deep flaws were exposed and the croatia game must be a euphemism for the brexit iceberg of reality slamming home and eliminating this government from the political tournament and fantasy these people live in on a daily basis.

  31. Street Andrew says:

Was there a football match ?

Damn. Missed it. Still I expect there will be another one coming along soon.

  32. Ken500 says:

The Catalonians did not vote for Independence. All Spanish politicians are a bunch of crooks, including the Catalonians. The Spanish despise the lots of them. Crooks and wasters. No wonder. Trying to destroy the economy. They stole people’s pensions and savings in the banking crisis. Caused by mis selling on the Costas. Including Catalonia. Mis sold to EU citizens etc. Holiday homes. They do not want to support the poorer parts of Spain. The EU does.

Rajoy is now a housing director in a small tourist town in Spain. A job he did before after avoiding jail.

The US president can land in Scotland. Trump has invested £Millions in Scotland. The green protestors tried to stop the Development in the NE. Just as they tried to stopped the AWPR. The expansion of the airport for years. Costing £Billions wasted. Against the population wishes, The wind turbines in the Bay (eyesore).

Trump has been before with hardly anyone noticing. The NE golf course is beautifully laid out and landscape. From the previous mess. More tourists come to play it. After the Oil down turn caused by Tory too high taxes, when the price had fallen. 40% since Jan 2016. 30% Corporation tax and 10% supplementary. The Tories ruined the Oil & Gas sector in Scotland. Lost £Billions and thousands of jobs. Scotland could have had full employment,

Labour and the Greens. The Labour crooks who have ruined the City colluding with the Tories. Two job Tory backing. £1.2Billion in debt. Traffic chaos. Building shops, offices and hotels getting into debt, (£200Million+). There are shops and offices lying empty. Hotels under occupied. A concrete mess. Instead of building affordable houses and schools. Teachers short. Cutting essential services funding allocation. A concrete mess. The grotesque monstrosity costing £Millions when people want pedestrianisation and open spaces. Spending £30Million on a Art Gallery renovation shut for five years that they can’t afford. No money for it. Just more wasted.

The Greens blocked the road for years, blocked house building and the expansion of the airport and the Golf Development. Wasting £Billions. A bunch of wasters. SNH, NTS Reactionary institutions.

  33. wull2 says:

This world cup has given me someone to support right up to the final, all be it different countries most times.

  34. Dorothy Devine says:

“Porridge munchers” unite ! But if anyone thinks the teams loss negates the 1966 world cup win , I suspect disappointment awaits!

I have never been a porridge muncher , basically because I had a careless mother who left the porridge to its own devices and the resultant mess was lumpily puke inducing.

My money was on Croatia from the start as I remember some cup where the chosen ones were playing them and prior to the opening of the match the commentators discussed which team the chosen ones would be playing next – Croatia was not privy to the discussion and went on to trounce said chosen ones – I have been quite fond of Croatia ever since even though football leaves me cold .

Happily Wimbledon is on – c’mon Rapha , Novak , John and Kevin!

  35. Effijy says:

English Media, with a very special mention
For their main propaganda channel, the BBC:

It seems that the English Football team went to
The World Cup with NO Expectations???

It seems that their manager is now one of the
Worlds best, even though he has won NOTHING
    at Club or Country Level.

It seems that England were the better team last night?
But they lost because they have a young inexperienced
Team and those devious Croations fielded older more experience players?

Firstly, England have no teenagers playing, secondly, their great manager picked their
Best players and knew who was in the Croations team!!!

Media and English Zimbie fans devoid of reality now know that England are going to win
The European Championship in 2 years time,
and the World Cup in 4.??

That too will be without any expectations?

England have a population some 14 times the size
Of their victors. England claims to have the biggest and best,
As well as richest football league in the world.
They haven’t endured a recent war like Croatia,
They are a richer nation with better training facilities,
And they were soundly beaten by David by one shot.

What is it with the English who are always happy with
Nothing today but jam tomorrow, which never appears?

Scotland needs to detach itself from these people ASAP.

  36. Abulhaq says:

More identity slight of hand on Today prog. England, the nation, British, English, all brought together in one sentimental, weepy lump. All up cataract creek.

  37. Clootie says:

ABE will end when the English commentators and politicians change their behaviour and language.
It will stop when the MSM stop using WE when reporting.
It will stop when we gain Independence and have a fair balanced media in Scotland for Scotland.

Well done Croatia. A well deserved win.

  38. Fred says:

Meanwhile at the Daily Record naebody wants another referendum!

  39. Hamish100 says:

    Fred say’s

..for those that don’t want a referendum they don’t have to participate in their democratic franchise. That is their choice, but a vote for independence will stand.

  40. Smallaxe says:

    Fred, your link:

    Half of Scots against second independence referendum as Nicola Sturgeon faces vote dilemma;

  41. Marcia says:

Re the Daily Record commissioned poll, the figures excluding don’t knows are Yes 53 No 47, well within the margin of error so it could be 50/50. Which side is more motived? I have a feeling it is the Yes side. Good numbers to start in the forthcoming referendum. So despite wall to wall negative anti-Yes propaganda from the Establishment there is an increase in Yes support.

Human nature is fascinating at times. For those who expected there to be a sudden increase for Yes because of the Brexit shambles, it does work like that. People still remain cautious . It takes time for a lot of people to change sides, the seeds are there, we just need to cultivate it, sure the Establishment will come along with weed-killer to try and stop it’s growth but in the sunshine of a good campaign we can harvest their support.

  42. Hamish100 says:

    — not fair you should have told me that the interpreter of Unionist Curtice’s survey was one David Clegg.
Have you heard the one about an Irishman sorry Ulsterman and an Englishman producing an article to deflect from the woes of the tories and Brexit Labour? ahhhh you have!

  43. frogesque says:

    @smallaxe: 9.06

DR spin. I think an Indy vote for the Autumn would be tight. Would barely have time to get the campaign airborne. Spring before we are out the EU makes more sense. Nicola is not stupid.

A Unionist rag, always was, always will be. It will always talk down Indy for the sake of their Mirror group and Labour masters.

  44. Smallaxe says:

    Spinning seems to be a popular pastime, my friend;
    The Scotsman;

  45. Breeks says:

Whether Scotland wins or loses, whether it’s rugby, football, or cricket, whether it’s a National Side or a club side, whether it’s professional or amateur, there is always a nagging doubt in my head running along the lines of “if that’s our current standing, how much better or worse would we be with our Independence, our own National media actually backing our team, and no longer saddled with sectarian and unionist division, but simply “All Scotland Together”, no distractions, no manipulation, no prejudice in broadcasting rights and revenues.

To that extent, I don’t care what England does. Win, lose, or draw, the result has nothing to do with me. Support England? Bizarre question. Why would I? I’m confused. Frankly, the expectation that I might support England seems surreal given the ubiquitous “high regard” for Scotland which seems to preoccupy English fans and commentators.

The problem I recognise is Scotland’s bizarre and mediocre Sporting “limbo”, which is a constant deep rooted frustration and underachievement, but it is made ten time worse when there is the constant gloating and arrogance of BBC and ITV pundits butting in where they’re just not wanted. The BBC in particular is evidence of hypocrisy on stilts, considering the miserly sums they pay for Scottish broadcasting rights.

Get rid of the 3rd rate BritNat Broadcasting, get rid of the cynical BritNat agenda, get rid of the malevolent BritNat interference, and finally, for better or worse, just let Scotland flourish on its own merit and commitment, and just enjoy whatever success and competitiveness we can generate when free of outside interference. What is wrong with that?

England’s problems with performance, hooliganism, corruption, arrogance, exceptionalism, … whatever. These are England’s problems, not mine. Why the feck do you expect me to care about them when there is no reciprocal attention given to Scotland’s dramas and problems? Should I care about France? Or Germany? Our Outer Mongolia? Why England?

I just long for the day when I can enjoy Scottish sport which hasn’t been twice strained through a cynical BritNat – English tea bag first.

If Scotland was Independent, that would be an everyday, unremarkable normality. Doesn’t seem too much to ask for… And no more fecking cricket. (Even if we did beat England). To be honest, news we actually had an International Cricket team was as big a surprise to me as Scotland having an international Rugby League team. Who knew???

  46. Dorothy Devine says:

P.s Anyone had a Wings badge yet? I’m getting anxious that I might have been forgotten.

  47. Proud Cybernat says:

So the Daily Redcoat Survation poll shows that only 49% of Scots are dead set against a 2nd IndyRef.

    Let’s rephrase that.

Less than half of those questioned are against a 2nd IndyRef. That’ll be your NO voters then – sitting at only 49%. That’ll be NO at less than 50%.

    All to play for.

  48. fionan says:

I messaged a business with a query about their goods yesterday. Their reply was mainly focussed on enthusing about ‘it’s coming home’ and was I watching the game? I replied that I dont follow football at all, I find it boring. I got another reply again going on about how excited I must be about ‘it’s coming home’.

I replied this time ‘ If I supported any football team, it would be ABE as I am sick of the arrogance and the mindless destruction by English football hooligans’. No further communication took place.

I do feel sorry for many of the England supporters with such raised hopes and obvious excitement to brighten their lives. But it is the (mis)behaviour of many of the hooligan and loud-mouthed fanatical element of England supporters, coupled with the assumption that all other peoples must support the England team, the sense of entitlement encouraged by a hysterical media, which fosters the ABE response.

When they stop trying to bully everyone else, and Scots in particular, to support England, ABE will die a death. For every action there is an equal and opposing reaction – that is what ABE is.

  49. Shug says:

See the bbc is broadcasting that us citizens need to keep a low profile
Think this is about leading Trump by the nose to believe nationalist are a bunch of raving commies.
Sounds like black ops to me
And they have wee fluffy meeting him to make thw coffee just like jack mcconnel

  50. heraldnomore says:

I need to travel to Englandshire later today; wondering if wearing my sahovnica socks might be a step too far. Mind you they have been washed and dried from recent use…

  51. Dr Jim says:

Daily Record’s political editor Grandmaster Davie Glegg goes to inordinate lengths to confuse and confound the facts on an Independence poll for the Daily Record’s hard of understanding readers

The Scotsman bends it another way by headlining *Half of Scots don’t want Sturgeons referendum* well of course that means that half of Scots actually do want one but they can’t very well print that now can they, and notice how it became Sturgeons dream and not the public’s dream in order to demonise the First Minister by making Independence seem like it was all her idea and she mystically talked the rest of us into it, because as we all know Nicola Sturgeon is endowed with the powers of the dark arts and magic, she’s even considered in some quarters as being responsible for Brexit and the way it’s turning out

We must accept the will of the British people they keep telling us, there are no such people as Scottish people they say, we’re all one country they say
See even if you fell for that guff you’d have to ask yourself if *they* don’t recognise Scotland as a country why do we have a *Scottish parliament* *Scottish football team* Scottish loads of shit or here’s the biggy why do we have a *Scottish secretary of Friggin State* if we don’t exist althought to be fair on the *Scottish secretary of Friggin State* he might as well not exist, and what kind of idiots create a job that doesn’t exist for a country that doesn’t exist

So by their own words they do condemn themselves as the British Nationalist liars that they are and let’s thank God Scotland has the SNP to inform them of the fact that Scotland knows the British are liars and always have been

So when the slower minded people who read the British Nationalist and Orange Lodge periodicals eventually find out their beloved newspapers of choice have been screwing them over for decades do these same newspapers envisage the fact they’re creating their own doom because if there’s one true fact about Scots, and that’s all Scots they really don’t like being lied to and made a fool of

Especially by who they think is their own

Think on Daily Record, when it hits you it’ll be massive just like what happened to the SUN in Liverpool except in Scotland you might never recover

  52. call me dave says:

Jings! What a cheery place the cafe is this morning chit chat and smiles all round by ‘mainly older folk’ discussing the demise of the England footie team.

Mainly because they won’t have to listen or watch the hype on radio and TV. They quite liked Southagate neatly dressed.

Nearly all reading the daily record or the daily mail though.

So back to normal tomorrow all gloom and doom in Scotland and tuning into antiques road show.

  53. Smallaxe says:

    Not only the BBC, my friend;

  54. Ken500 says:

The Polling industry are manipulating the vote for money. Illegal data collection. Breaking data and privacy Laws. Misinterpretation. Illegal metholodgy, corruption and misinterpretation. Illegal funding. Breaking electoral Laws with impunity. Gerrymanding. Dark illegal money. The electoral guidance ignored. The association censored and fined repeatedly. Honours for the illegal behaviour.

The electoral system manipulated for money. Hedge Funds making money from the illegal activities of polling companies and corrupt politicians. MSM manipulating the illegal collusion. Corrupt lies controlled by Westminster. Especially the Murdoch Press. Owned by a non Dom tax evader committing crime repeatedly. Phone hacking, illegal surveillance and bribing public officials. Breaking UK Law and supporting illegal wars. Killing and maiming millions.

  55. Southern Rock says:

    Regarding Donald Trump.

The guy just does not bother me one way or another.

I just don’t get angry at him OR excited by him. In my opinion he seeks publicity, so the best way to get back at him (if you are against him) is to IGNORE him.

The guy will be off in a day or two to meet his best mate Putin, who Treeza demonises every day of the week.

Treeza and her Isolated Brexit England will have nobody to turn to when they are finally out of the EU.

This is all good for Scottish Independence.

If the English want to make enemies with both Russia and the USA then please don’t disturb them.

    Scottish Independence Trumps everything, always.

  56. Dr Jim says:

The Herald issues a warning to Americans to keep a low profile in Scotland during Trumps visit for fear of violent protests

What kind of Scum sucking newspapering is this, the only political violence that has taken place in Scotland in recent times has been carried out by British Nationalist Rangers football shirt wearing head cases who believe the earth is flat and their Queen rules the waves

I don’t know what powers the Scottish government might have in this area but garbage like this from a garbage pumping rag must be stopped

At no time has Police Scotland even hinted at any kind of violence ever threatened by anyone over Trumps stupid visit and it’s a whole lot more likely any protests planned will be of the humiliating the shit out of Trump variety

With headlines like this the Herald has shown itself to be even worse than the Daily Mail, and that’s not easy to do

  57. Luigi says:

I feel sorry for the England squad/fans. They played well and did really well to reach the semis (they are not one of the top four football teams in 2018). Over-achievement is no bad thing. The best team won last night.

I do find all this Scottish gloating about it to be rather distasteful. I fully undertstand it, but it does the indy cause no good – just feeds into the “racist nats hate the English” narrative so loved by the MSM. Why give them more ammo? Besides, we have many friends in the English scots for YES, so for me I support our neighbour England (to an extent) when they play.

The problem is not the English team or the English people (or most of the fans even). The problem is with the media. They deliberately hype everything up (leading to unrealistic expectations, followed by a nasty blame game when it all goes belly-up).

It’s not even a simple media problem – any nation on earth would get a bit excited if their team reached the world cup semis. No the problem, as others have hinted at, is that Scotland has no national media – we are expected to go along with the ride when England do well and many scots understandably resent that.

Croatia have done really well. A tiny country half the size of Scotland, with half the population, are now in a world cup finally (and deservedly so). So, when we get told by the ‘experts’ that Scotland is too wee to do well at international football, you can stick that in their faces.

If England regularly over-achieves at football, then Scotland under-achieves. Why is that? Perhaps we should ask the ‘experts’ – those BritNat blazers that run the SFA. Their pathetic ‘too wee’ attitude seems to permeate the whole game in Scotland from local clubs to the national side. Get rid of the blazers and let’s see what we can do.

About the video – I think a news and current affairs style is a great addition to the documentary style of the Lesley Riddoch insights into how other small nations manage their affairs.

It is also different to the comedy style of Dateline 2018.

We are edging towards a rounded media service for Scotland. Keep up the good work. Are these programmes incorporated into Truly Scottish TV?

Hopefully those headline’s alert more people to the absolute woeful and pitiful pishgush that is our msm…not even a hint of journalistic challenge about the absurdity of such claims especially in a Scottish context.

Bunch of fucking stirrers…WM and their little helpers, the entire 4th estate.

The Scotsman bends it another way by headlining *Half of Scots don’t want Sturgeons referendum* well of course that means that half of Scots actually do want one…

It’s all Orwellian style Tory b#*!ocks. The Hootsman, indeed the whole crumbling edifice of Unionism, apparently finds a democratic majority which doesn’t want any more democracy.

That whole anti-Independence campaign strategy is a prime example undiluted doublethink taken straight from the pages of George Orwell’s dystopian 1984.

“Doublethink is the ability to hold two completely contradictory beliefs at the same time and to believe they are both true.”

  63. North Chiel says:

“Breeks@0941 a.m. “ , just suppose that England had won last night , and gone on and actually lifted the trophy against France . The EBC ,Sky and other network channels would have been in blanket coverage mode probably for the next 2 to 3 weeks, and thereafter daily mentions for the next fifty years . Everything else ( including Brexit) would be completely blanked for days or even weeks . The homecoming, the visits to Downing st , statements in the HOC , visits to the Palace ( meetings with Harry&Wills ),( Arise Sir Gareth Sir Harry Kane etc etc) . Never ending colour supplements in the papers , Sunday papers etc. ( the remainder of the Amazon rain forest would be at risk) . National holidays declared ,etc. You begin to get the picture.
Now , just suppose ( fantasy I know ) that instead of England , it was actually Scotland that had progressed to the Semi final& onto the Final , and had miraculously lifted the trophy. Undoubtedly , there would be blanket network coverage with “ national” broadcasters sent up to Glasgow airport to cover the homecoming etc. ( for about 2 days) . Undoubtedly the “ Scottish editions” of the London owned newspapers would have virtual blanket coverage back to front , and undoubtedly Scottish politicians would be to the fore to greet our heroes.
However, after 2 or 3 days of extended coverage on the EBC and Sky etc., thereafter “ our win” would be relegated to the same status as if Croatia, France, Brazil, Germany , Belgium or any other “foreign team” had won the tournament ie Scotland’s win as far as the London owned and controlled media was concerned would have been considered in that context.
This is exactly what is completely unacceptable as regards the present “ state” of broadcasting ( England being the state).

Well, RP, its the whole MSM media isn’t it. And I’ve heard that new language called “Engliché”. Developed solely to turn journalese as was known for decades into stultifying propaganda for use in propping up any meaningless current government and in rubbishing any current opposition.
