What’s red and black and blue all over?

Posted on July 19, 2013 by

We’re going to pop out for a quick bit of sun before it gets completely insanely hot. While we’re gone enjoy this, in which a hapless Labour stooge pens a quick diatribe of cut-and-pasted “Better Together” drivel for what he almost certainly expected to be a sympathetic audience on the anti-independence “progressive” site Left Foot Forward, and promptly gets the most comprehensive and one-sided shoeing from commenters we’ve seen in quite some time. We can only assume “Newsbot9” is on holiday.

Ah, we can dae so much merr by not being sheprit, so we can. An’ that.

The howling emptiness of this Labour dunce’s article makes me rather pleased that I resigned from my union last month because they would not – could not – distinguish between the Westminster coalition and the Scottish Government. I will never go back.

Trade Unionists who will vote No to endorse the Westminster system should hang their heads in shame.

Little seems to have changed since Shakespear’s day. I supose the equivalent of the Scottish steel would have been that cannon could not be cast in the Weald as Hen. VIII had already wasted the forests.

I was a G.M.B shop steward and labour member for 10 years and gave up in disgust for two reasons .
    (1) It was always dont rock the boat , we dont want to do anything that would have a detrimental impact on the labour party .
    (2) It was always recruit , recruit , recruit , it became an embarrassment trying to explain to my members why the union was not trying to protect their living standards .
It got to the stage where there was no point in me trying to recruit new members when the union were not interested in looking after the members they had .
I was so disgusted with things that I gave up on unions and politics for 3 years as I had came to the conclusion that there was no such thing as workers solidarity .
Full time union officials were only their for two things , feed the labour party and to keep themselves in the lifestyle that they had became accustomed to .
These officials have salaries and pensions that their members can only dream about so perhaps Mr McHugh would have been better doing an article on trade unions instead of propaganda for project fear .

Left Foot Forward belongs in your Zany Comedy Relief category.  It’s been full of Unionist bashing stupidity recently, and has lost any credibility it might have had. as SLAB drones post one vacuous piece after nother.   Scottish Labour is truly dead, bereft of ideas, ideology and intelligence.  There’s nothing remotely left about the site, but perhaps it could be more accurately be renamed Left Foot in Mouth.

  11. Jeannie says:

Left Foot Forward?  It should rename itself “Left Foot in Mouth” after that article.

I’m far more interested in the type of solidarity that would come with the “Common Weal” approach.  And if we follow some of the Scandinavian models, trades union will be able to improve conditions for workers by sitting at the top table with the employers to discuss the best way forward for both the company and its workers in conjunction with each other.  I wonder if any of our trades union are looking at this model and if so, I’m wondering what they think of it.

Ha-ha-ha ….my a*se!!!! What the f*** is Anas on!!!! Has he suffered sunstroke?
It’s the ‘No’ vote, that is probably sitting at 23%. As each month goes by, I seem to read that the ‘Yes’ vote increases by at least 1% if not 2%. If anything, it is pulling away from the ‘No’ vote.
Scottish Labour are sh*tting themselves. The Tories and Libs no longer give a monkeys about Scotland, and London Labour is now so blue in colour, I would not be surprised one day, if there isn’t a Tory-Labour coalition government.
Auld Lamont and her cronies have gone into hiding since the blow-up of the Unions and Falkirk. On another note, everytime, she says one thing, we have Ed shoot it down the next. There is no one in Scotland who believes that Scottish Labour, let alone the Labour Party, are actually standing up for the common person.
Most folk who are in the ‘Don’t Know’ camp are edging to the ‘Yes’ vote. I’ve spoken to a few of them, and they seriously hint it. They don’t like what they see from UK politics. They are all hacked off with Bankers, Trident, lies on the oil, Tax rises, and a huge batch of dodgy UK politicians. There is no one who appears to speak the truth. As I said, I know a few now, who are seriously looking at Independence.
Plus, reading Iain McWhirters piece in the Herald yesterday shows that Darling is terrified to tell us the real truth – that there will be no more powers. If anything, wait till the Scottish Electorate find out that it will literally be English MP’s deciding all policies for the UK and Scotland.  That’s when most Scots will swing to the Yes camp. A brilliant piece by Iain. Well Done for highlighting that to us, Mr McWhirter.

I think Jeannie’s comment about the Common Weal needs to be raised at LFF too.  If the Union (UK) is so great why is that not being discussed or even acknowledged as feasible?  Seems that whenever Scandanavia is mentioned the phrase “high taxes” is always in the same sentence, even if it is a lie.

The things is, this is the only opportunity for Scotland to assert its poition on social justice, through the Common Weal and other improvements, whilst Labour is falling over itself to impose social injustice on the country as a whole.  You’d have to be a sociopath/Tory and/or career Labour member not to acknowledge what the Union actually means for working people (and perhaps has always meant) and where it is going.

  18. It was enjoyable seeing the guy have his idiotic opinions rammed back down his throat BUT: the decimation of our steel industry should never be mentioned without bringing up the “performance” of the Feeble 50 at the same time.
On the recent Road to Referendum programme, Helen Liddell admitted they were completely powerless to do anything although they managed to pick up their money and fill in expenses forms of course.  As it was then so it is now – if the Tories want to give Scotland a kicking then there’s sweet eff all that Labour will/can do about it.  They had the brass neck to launch their last general election campaign up here on the site of the old Ravenscraig plant too.  Incredible.

Why not start showing pictures or film of Scotland’s deprivation in the past decades reflecting the unionist’s government’s husbandry. Let the unionist diehard’s respond to these chronicles and try and excuse themselves from the truth. With that, let them answer how being part of the present union will be any different.

Exactly. I was on the Gartcosh demonstration to Westminster  the day the f*cking Labour Party cancelled their scheduled Gartcosh debate that two trainloads of trade unionists and nationalists had come down to London for and debated Westland helicopters instead.
    I was never so angry.
We were granted an audience with some of the feeble fifty in the Great Hall of Westminster as compensation. I put it to the meeting that it was very simple. The Labour Party in Scotland only had to say “We’re away up the road to set up a Scottish Parliament” and the Scottish steel industry would have been saved the same day. Only one agreed with me. They chose to be powerless.

Why are you wasting your time with someone from Slovenia? I would have just kicked her into touch! The only folk we need to convince here is our own people. That is the real fight. I would not get into an argument from someone, who should be bloody thankful that she has a nation of her own, considering that 20 years ago, she lived in Yugoslavia; a nation that was communist, dominated by Serbs, was a dictatorship, which then ended in the biggest bloodbath since world war 2.
I don’t think she has any right to stand on a soapbox and preach to us!

These were council by elections in mainly strong Labour areas where first past the post voting method is used and had low turn outs.
The SNP won the major Scottish Parliamentary by election  and latest Westminster opinion polls show  UKIP losing support and Tories and Labour are neck and neck but in Scotland  SNP have 40% support with Labour down to 30% which is why Kezia is trying to put a gloss on Labour’s poor showing.
