Wings Over Scotland is surprised, touched and delighted to have come out on top of the Scot Goes Pop! poll for "Favourite Political Blog" which was conducted over the past week. Having only been running for five months, we're thrilled and proud to have beaten over 50 other blogs to the title, and to be sharing the podium with a pair of quality sites like Lallands Peat Worrier and Bella Caledonia makes the pleasure all the sweeter. Thanks very much to everyone who voted for us, even if it was only as a result of our shameless Twitter plea for support on Saturday morning as we headed neck-and-neck with LPW towards the finishing post.

(In our defence, both they and BC did have a full day's extra voting over us due to the two-part nature of the poll, so we were just levelling the playing field…)

The best thing to come out of the survey, though, was the discovery of a blog we can't believe we weren't aware of before now, and which we're very excited to add to our "Zany Comedy Relief" link section. Councillor Terry Kelly proudly represents the good people of Paisley North West in the name of the Labour Party (having come top of the poll against eight opponents in 2007), and is standing for re-election to the council next month. We wish him the very best of luck in that quest – the independence movement desperately needs men of his calibre in the opposition.

We'll let you enjoy Terry's work for yourself, but in the interests of bloggerly comradeship we will offer him one bit of friendly advice. In a recent post entitled "CAN THE SNP SINK ANY LOWER?", the councillor furiously lambasts now-expelled ex-SNP candidate Lyall Duff over some well-publicised comments. But in doing so, he inexplicably conflates Mr Duff's words with those of a completely different nationalist activist by the name of Tommy Ball, who was recently and rightly condemned for tweeting some inflammatory and offensive attacks on British soldiers.

We're sure Councillor Kelly regrets this unfortunate and plainly defamatory slur against Mr Duff, who had no connection whatsoever to Mr Ball, and is embarrassed by his dreadful error in clumsily fusing the two men into one monstrous cybernat beast. We're equally certain that the countless Labour politicians, activists and journalists who've repeatedly demanded that the SNP leadership takes action against online abuse perpetrated by anonymous rogue nationalists will be swift in their public censure of Mr Kelly and have the offending material promptly removed.

In the anticipation of his fulsome retraction and apology, then, we feel safe and secure in recommending his splendid blog to you without hesitation.

Congratulations on being the most read blog among James's readers (a discenring bunch of people). From what I can see it's well deserved. I'd not heard of your blog before it came up in the discussions on 'Scot Goes Pop', but, having found it, I discovered it's a delight to read and I've added to to Munguin's blog roll.

congratulations. my goodness councillor kelly is an angry man isn't he. so angry his basic punctuation seems to go a bit awry at times which makes it a bit hard to read in places. as well as wrongly attributing remarks to people, he conveniently overlooks the fact that the evil lib dems are the same ones he and his chums were running scotland with up to 2007.

Well done.  I didn't know about the competition, but I'd have voted for you.  The other two front runners are interesting, but a bit too up their own backsides at times – and dare I say it, pretentious.

I love his lengthy profile introduction about himself:

    "I'm a socialist"

Aye, okay Terry, whatever you say.

My favourite Terry Kelly moment (we all have one) was a couple of years ago when someone asked him who he was, and he angrily told them to google his name.  At the time, the first two google results were reports of him having to apologise for being stupid.

i see (on further checking his profile) that he lists his industry as "government". that's not an industry terry, it's part of the framework of society which either obstructs or assists industry. maybe that's why he blames the government for doosan cancelling tbeir investment.

Well done , your blog is always a joy to read.  Cooncillor Terry,  it's the way he tells them, it's a cracker.  Even his own deputy leader calls him a bonehead!  The people of his town must have a sense of humour to vote for him.

Well done and well deserved! Might I propose, as an occasional entry for "Comic Relief" The Herald's Andrew Mackie? He has a wonderfully confused piece of ill-informed nonsense in today's edition…However, perhaps to include him in the Comics' Roll  of Honour would be to elevate him beyond his rank.

I think it's safe to say the "Anas Sarwar" on Terry's blog isn't the real one. But even so, it takes a pretty epic level of fuckwittery to publish that comment but still leave the lie in the piece intact.

I wrote Mr Kelly a congratulatory comment on his satirical site.  However, for some reason it hasn't appeared.  In the hope it might appear somewhere this is the comment I left:

<"Councillor" It's really amusing to see all these people falling for the spoof.
The satire's beautifully done – I particularly like the Dave Spart style mission statement (the mis-spelt Italian quote from Bandiera Rosso is spot on)!
    Keep up the good work.>

I have a theory. George Laird, Niko Stratos and Cllr Terry Kelly are in fact the same person and is the Unionists answer to the perceived cybernat problem.

On Kelly, its nice to see some one who I'd describe as being swivel-eyed, actually looking swivel-eyed, (most people who sound that way don't look it. Magnus Gardham is another one who also looks swivel-eyed.)

Is that libelous? If it is, feel free to delete.

Ah I had forgotten about good old Councillor Kelly. He is a card.
He certainly has a way with women. And who could fail to be impressed by his sensitive handling of the Israel/Palestine situation?

  18. Scott Minto (Aka Sneekyboy) says:

Councillor Kelly branded women “thick” on his website then insisted his remark was meant as “a joke” and accused his critics of lacking a sense of humour.
Is there a Labour handbook for how to avoid accepting responsibility for demeaning comments?
