That is a beauty !

sassenach

Perfect, Chris!

Robert Louis

Oh now, I think Chris Cairns is getting very deep. I have no idea what this refers to. Can anybody help?

Fergus Green

Next Question:

Have you seen Theresa, Ruth or Jeremy?

Anne Roberts

Excellent!

Fixitfox

Bang on the money Chris. I’m picturing wee Nick Eardley or Glenn Campbell standing on the other side of the moat gazing up, wondering “where’s Ruth?”. She will of course be miraculously available to all media outlets when that poor wean arrives. Will Ruth apply for a baby box?

MaggieC

Wonderful , This just sums up the whole situation at the moment . Our Nicola v the three fearties in hiding .

Gordon Hunter

Robert Louis, Questioning by the press, or in that three’s case, not being questioned by the press, not answering the press, afraid to face the press.

Breeks

Live from Jericho….

Gordon Hunter

Questioning by the Press,or in that three’s case, not answering the Press, not facing the press, hiding from the press.

Gullane No4

May Davidson and Corbyn behind the castle walls dodging questions from the British press.

Davidson with her fingers in her ears is on the ball.

Malky

Another cracker. Been this way for years. The media know full well that NS and her party have all the decent answers, but those aren’t the answers they want to hear or publish.

Clootie

Outstanding quality once again. You have captured Ruth perfectly 🙂
May and Corbyn are on the ropes due to fighting internal and external battles but Davidson is just in denial that any difficult questions even exist ( fingers in ears).

One day someone in the Scottish media bubble will ask Ruthie a difficult question (dark money for example?)…who am I kidding !!!

Highland Wifie

Yes there’s only one prepared to put her head above the parapet and that’s our Nicola. She has nothing to fear from the truth.
The other three are a bunch of incompetent cowards who know their snake oil is not being bought by the public.
Right on the money as usual Chris. Well done.

Ghillie

Chris, I really really love this one 🙂

Is Hamish just a bit further along peering over too?

I admire so Nicola Sturgeon’s ability, knowledge and courage to always stick her head above the parapet.

A true stateswoman.

M, R and J? Sad and utterly inadequate.

starlaw

Yer missing ah gibet or three Chris .

almannysbunnet

Like a fine wine Chris is improving with age 🙂

galamcennalath

Superb!

If the UK had a free and an effective media, these toe rags wouldn’t be getting away with keeping quiet, they would be getting hounded and door stepped. Difficult questions should be put and answers should be sought.

This is the biggest constitutional crisis since … ever? And, the media are giving those responsible an easy ride!

Except Nicola of course, who can stand proud, engage openly, and put other ‘leaders’ to shame.

Kevin

Are we onto Mogwai song titles as headers already?

Good luck finding a story to fit ‘Stupid Prick Gets Chased By Police & Loses His Slut Girlfriend’ from the Batcat ep.

I’ve got a ? for you Nicola, but you know what it is already.

Chris covers all the bases yet again :o)

Scot Finlayson

The Scottish people are truly blessed to have Nicola looking after them,

whether you are a Scottish patriot or British nationalist, Nicola does what`s best for all citizens of Scotland,

if we had in any way an honest and ethical press Ruth and her gang of thugs would have been run out of politics,

like Jesus going among the lepers, Nicola will even tolerate the BBC,

(although lepers have no choice in their condition the BBC journalists/presenters do have a choice).

Rick H Johnston

Corbyn in a straight jacket. Spot on Chris.

Macart

That’s a keeper. 🙂

jdenham

Excellent comments this morning. Toe rags read tow-rags. This was a piece of material tied to ropes hung over the side of the sailing ships. When the sailors required to defecate over the side of the ship, (where else could they ‘go’), they then hauled in the rag to complete their ablution, and threw it back into the sea to be cleansed. Hence the expression tow rag. A fairly apt description for some of our present politicians. Just sayin’.

Dorothy Devine

Excellent cartoon , captures those absent without leave !

jdenham , I wish you hadn’t told me that , I was happy in my ignorance.

Man every day is school day on this site!

Is it not?

Gary45%

Yet another classic Chris.
Genius.
Nice one.

On a serious note, Nicola is the “one” the “Establishment” media are always trying to defame for simply standing up for the country she was democratically elected to serve, the other three are nobody’s.

louis.b.argyll

Excellent, as usual.

I’d rather be ‘nippy’ than ‘dippy’.

Greannach

I thought it was “toe rags” referring to annoying and useless rag nails on someone’s toes.

Luigi

That’s a a BBC constructed parapet they are hiding behind. And it’s crumbling.

Hamish100

I have met the FM on several occasions. Never found her “nippy” nor should we fall into the britnat verbal trap.

Found her smart, warm character who interacts with all groups well and in particular our younger voters.

galamcennalath

jdenham says:

Toe rags read tow-rags.

Jeez, thank heavens for toilet roll. 🙂

Danny

I think it was Nicola’s friends who came up with the name “Nippy”.

I think it came from her early days because she was always questioning answers and being slightly aggressive with it.

Hence the name”Nippy Sweety”.

I am sure she wears it as a badge of honour.

Naina Tal

Always thought toerags = name used by WW1 British Army for Arabic Tuaregs

Another one for the billboard campaign, Chris.

“One day someone in the Scottish media bubble will ask Ruthie a difficult question (dark money for example?)…who am I kidding !!!”

Quite so, Clootie it took a Welshman, Ciaran Jenkins, to put Davidson on the spot by asking her on Channel 4 about the conflict between LGBT rights and DUP support. She simply took to her heels.

Strangely, I’m having difficulty locating this footage on YouTube. Perhaps some skilful Winger can be more successful.

Danny whether the FM looks at the name as a ” badge of honour” I am not sure what does that really mean any way? her political enemies and press now use it as a term to demean her. Simple fact.
the same folk don’t say Johnston but Boris.

Language is important.

ps some of the FM friends that I have met don’t use the “nippy” nom-de- plume. I don’t think we should either.

Thepnr

Those three don’t even bother to hide now, as there’s rarely anyone looking for them to answer questions anyway. If questions ever do get asked then they will rarely be answered.

Total contrast with how Nicola Sturgeon answers questions.

@Tinto Chiel

I think this is the video you referred to.

Yup, that’s it, Thepnr @11.01. Thanksabunch.

BBC – SHEREEN, Murray MacDonald? Who? supports Jonston the man with throwaway racist lines and then does a runner (Boris to Murray). He supports Johnston. The problem is the extreme left wing.(count how many times he says this) No, MacDonald it is the right wing who are pushing the i-Europe, anti-foreigner, anti-islam, pro- austerity line.

Shereen giggles and moves on.

Vestas

Some unexpectedly Vile stuff arrived via ayemail today – lappie fits in the bag too 🙂

Artyhetty

Great image Chris, you have them off to a tee. Sly, scheming, lying toads ( no offence to toad species!) who when facing even remotely pertinent questions, cower and hide.

I see a slight resemblence to Mundell in Corbyn there, he’s another one who avoids answering questions. When these Britnats do speak to the media, it’s verbal diaorhea.

What do they do for the incredibly lucrative payment they take each month from the public purse. Rhetorical question.

Dennis Bartholomew

Robert Louis it proves that Nicola can stand up to anybody she is fearless and a very strong lady and a great politician and stands up for the people of Scotland and will handle any thing that is thrown at her from other political parties and the MSM

Dan Huil

Nice one, Chris. Our FM has confidence, intelligence and nerve. The other three are pathetic.

Robert Peffers

Malky says: 11 August, 2018 at 7:58 am:

” … Another cracker. Been this way for years. The media know full well that NS and her party have all the decent answers, but those aren’t the answers they want to hear or publish.”

The standard retort to that, Malky, is the ironically said wee bit added on the end of any BBC, MSM, SMSM or Westminster Establishment news item, ” … But they don’t want you to know that.”

Scott

I have just noticed this.

“Nicola Sturgeon is a liar and a ("Tractor" - Ed) – off with her head!” in yesterday’s Telegraph, it later changed it to “Nicola Sturgeon – another treacherous queen of Scots – has miscalculated”

I would like to think that the police would be investigating this as to me it is inciting hatred towards the FM of Scotland, does someone have to report it before the police will take action against the Telegraph and the columnist Allison Pearson??

Another great cartoon Chris.

Danny

Hamish100 10.56am

Yes, I know excatly what you mean Hamish. It is not the nicest nickname in the world.

I was just pointing out that Nicola herself doesn’t have a problem with the name “Nippie”.

Hamish100

danny fair enough

Meg merrilees

Brilliant cartoon Chris – wish you’d had some others up there too. What’s all this with Murphy suddenly re-appearing from the dead. Does he fancy getting back into the political fray – fancies Corbyn’s position?

Scott
Did I just read that correctly – the Telegraph had a headline calling Nicola a tractor!!!!!!

Flippin’ ‘eck that needs reporting as a hate crime right away…
It was bad enough when the Mail? had the headline re judges as Betrayers of the People.
If we don’t challenge this it will grow.

What’s the saying.. ‘all it takes for evil to exist is for one good man to ignore it’ ..
or something to that effect.
I am genuinely shocked!
Imagine the reaction if that had been..’Netanyahu – Betrayer of the people’ or ‘T May betrayer of the people’ – mind you that headline may already be on standby.

Can’t believe that with everything that ‘is’ and ‘isn’t happening’ all the MSM is discussing is Boris Johnson’s tactless remarks about burkas. Definitely fiddling while Rome burns.

Valerie

Great toon as per.

Illustrates the old adage, which applies to every walk of life. It’s easy being present when things are going well, the real measure of a person is being present when things are going bad.

Who stays the course? Who explains themselves, and gives their justification? Who can withstand flak, and keep their focus?

Alex Salmond knew 100% what he was doing, when he took this young woman under his mentoring wing.

Meantime, those other 3 are deeply embroiled in racism, Islamaphobia and anti semitic rows.

Archie Hamilton

Looks like the very thing for a banner at the march in Dundee next weekend.

wull2

Hear no evil, see no evil, speak all evil
and also oor Nicola. YES

Meg merrilees

Scott
Curiously:

I searched the Telegraph site for the above article you mention and only after an advanced search did it appear.
It was published on March 14th 2017 – seems they might have rehashed a previous article but why change the headline before reverting back to the less neurotic, original?
I’m not going to risk adding the link because it contains the banned word tray – tor and would probably not get passed by the filters on the Rev’s site.

Surely it is at least libellous.

With apologies to Richard Curtis, Three Numpties and a Stateswoman.

Petra

Brilliant Chris. You get the current political situation down to a tee every week.

O/T

I came across this and thought that it was interesting on a number of counts. Firstly why hasn’t this been shown on television, as an example on the BBC?

Secondly, imo, it’s another example of the Establishment wanting to suppress the fact that the Scots are at the forefront of many fields indeed.

And thirdly she’s calling for help to resolve a most hellish situation, but who will hear her if her request isn’t aired? Hopefully she herself will have contacts.

I’ve come across Sue Black on television previously in relation to the work that she had done in Kosova, as the UK’s lead forensic anthropologist, and the key role she played in the Cold case programmes, but I had no idea that she’d been involved in this amazing work (as shown on the video) dealing with cases from the Metropolitan Police, London, from across Europe and so on. The only research unit (Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification at Dundee University) in the UK that’s doing so. Additionally I see now from wikipedia that it’s her department that’s ‘training the UK National Disaster Victim Identification (UK DVI) team for police and scientists in advanced mortuary practices.’

I see, too, that we are losing her, as she’s leaving Dundee University to become Pro Vice-Chancellor for Engagement at Lancaster University this month.

Anyway if there are any Scottish ”photo specialists” out there, get your thinking caps on, ASAP.

@Danny says: 11 August, 2018 at 12:23 pm:

” … I was just pointing out that Nicola herself doesn’t have a problem with the name “Nippie”.”

Thing is, Danny, the term is short for, “Nippie Sweetie”, and that is not an insult, especially for the leader of a political party seeking independence.

It is defined as:-
“a person, usually female, who annoys people just by talking. Mostly used in the southern Scotland and Glasgow dialects of Scotland.

These idiots who fondly imagine they are denigrating the First Minister have utterly no idea that the only people, “annoyed”, when the First Minister speaks are exactly the ones that Nicola needs to annoy – them.

You won’t see any annoyed people in the big crowds thronging the street when Nicola walks around freely among them.

I take that back, the only annoyed ones you will see are the those who wanted to speak to her or to get a selfie, but couldn’t get close enough through the crowds.

The would be insulters are so ignorant of what the full term, “Nippie Sweetie”, means they actually imagine it is some kind of put down. If Alex Salmond had a fault it was that he usually wasn’t enough of a nippie sweetie when he perhaps should have been. Or more correctly his nippiness often flew over the heads of those he was aiming at.

In the older Glasgow every local area had its own Nippie Sweetie, its own local gossip and you could usually find them both in the local steamie. The first kept everyone on their toes and the second was paid little heed to.

AlbertaScot

BBC Scotland claiming that it offered demo organizers a sit down with senior BEEB staff.

Is this true? Or more Fake News?

Robert Peffers

Wings well represented at the anti-BBC demo I see lots of Wings flags on view. Very appropriate – let’s hope the BBC management take note of that wee fact.

With luck, and not going with the first two speakers, I hope the BBC Scotland management have had their day and are on their way out of Scotland entirely.

If the organisation is to continue it should not be as, “The BBC”, nor be connected to the London management of the BBC. If government funded, it be funded by an independent Holyrood government and much more directly answerable to the people of Scotland and not answerable to the Government of Scotland – no matter what political shade that government becomes.

Politicians must be kept clear of a Scottish Public Service broadcaster.

Jason Smoothpiece

Sarah

@AlbertaScot: it is true. I was listening/watching the Independence live video when Ronnie Anderson was speaking. Ronnie said that Ian Small had invited 3 or 4 protestors [including Ronnie, I think] to go inside PQ for a chat.

But Ronnie declined on the grounds, I think I remember correctly, that he thought the film of the meeting would be manipulated in a way to suit the Establishment. He thought that BBC reps should come OUTSIDE to the protest and do an interview as they would do at any other event.

defo

Soz, should have read ‘proper separation..’

A return to the notion of ‘honour’, with real resignations etc wouldn’t hurt.

Robert Peffers

@Jason Smoothpiece says: 11 August, 2018 at 6:21 pm:

” … Hi Gus there was actually two Police officers in and around the area.
The officers spent their time walking about chatting and smiling with the crowd.”

Which all indicates that Police Scotland, who obviously are, by their profession, an evidence based organisation have all the evidence required to prove beyond any doubt, that the YES movement have absolutely no desires to act in any way illegally.

I’d go as far as concluding that those two officers were there briefed to keep themselves aware that if there was any likelihood of trouble it would be there duty to protect the protesters from being attacked.

There has, at least to my knowledge, never been anything but good behaviour and no signs of aggressiveness by at any YES or AUOB events no matter what they were marching or gathering for.

For goodness sake even a match at Central Park, Cowdenbeath for a Blue Brazil home game has a bigger police presence and a smaller crowd.

Tinto Chiel

Big thanks to Ronnie Anderson and his team for all their efforts today at Pathetic Quay. So nice to see weel-kent Wingers and, for the first time, to meet Highland Wifie and spouse who came a long way south for today.

The BBC is our greatest enemy: time the people of Scotland acted accordingly.

starlaw

They were right about not going into BBC lair, any interview would have been cut and spliced out of all recognition and repeated on BBC…STV news as often as the 1966 world cup final.
Well done folks, go nowhere near them you do not need to explain anything to them.

galamcennalath

Tinto Chiel says:

The BBC is our greatest enemy

Definitely.

A lot of BritNat politicians will try to get away with as much as they can. In a normal country the role of the media is to call out politicians when they lie to the public and to make them answer the questions they’d rather avoid. It’s call ‘holding power to account’.

However, the UK in general and Scotland in particular doesn’t have much real media. It’s mostly vested interests, covering backs, fake news, and disinformation.

Then there’s the public service broadcaster, the BBC, who should definitely be doing their job properly and contributing to the democratic process. They should rise above the privately owned press and practice real journalism. Instead, what do we get? Yup – vested interests, covering backs, fake news, and disinformation just like the rest. And what makes them public enemy number one is their legacy market share, beamed into most homes, and we are expected to pay for the ‘privilege’ of being manipulated.

Cactus

Like burp like Glasgow. 😉

Grouse Beater

The ‘head above the parapet’ analogy works well, Chris. How about that, elected politicians who refuse to answer to the press or the people. How can they claim we live in a democracy?

And on the subject of democracy…..

Here’s a Constitution for Scotland in the modern age:

Robert Peffers

Let’s just face it the BBC bods were never going to come out to speak to, or at, a protest about the Biased BBC.

The reason being they don’t have a defence that they aren’t biased that would hold up. They know they are guilty but intend to keep doing what they have always done and being what they have always been.

The main component in the Westminster Propaganda wing. You have to admit that the public have been fooled into paying for the privalidge of having Westminster propaganda beamed into their homes.

Highland Wifie

Very good to meet you too Tinto Chiel.
Still on way home but had a very enjoyable day. Thanks to all the people who made this happen. Some excellent speakers who expressed really well how betrayed people feel by the state broadcaster.
We older folks have had at least 50 years of trust in the Beeb eroded and now disappointment has become anger. Telling how many there today no longer pay a TV licence.

Tinto Chiel

Amen to all that, HW.

It was Parents for Survival. Glasgow doesn’t have a “lord mayor”, of course, and I’m disappointed to discover there were a few gaps, but otherwise it’s an ok report of an event that felt important at the time.

Ian Brotherhood

re the ‘offer’ to Ronnie et al to go inside the Pleasure Dome for a cosy wee chat…

The man who offered the pow-wow was Ian Small, the one and only member of BBC management who had the baws to at least *try* to offer some kind of explanation for YouTubeGate. He did so on the Beattie Media Review but did it very poorly, whereupon he was comprehensively savaged by Eamonn O’Neill and Anna Burnside.

It was clear that Small had been completely blindsided by developments and had to make up segments of BBC policy on-the-hoof (as remarked upon by Rev Stu right here same day it happened) so his offer today was not likely to be accepted by anyone who wanted to talk to an organ-grinder in preference to the monkey. Is it too cynical to propose that that’s exactly why he made it?

PS Well done to the organisers and everyone who attended, and a big wagging finger at those who could’ve made it but didn’t bother their arses. And a special badge of shame to the ratbag who snaffled my baccy when I got up to say hello to Peter Bell. It was quiet at the time so whoever saw the packet lying there knew it could only be mine. It was also right behind where the speakers stood and IndependenceLive was doing tests so I hope you were filmed, ya thievin bastard!

Tinto Chiel

@crazycat: that was the one. Was somewhere north of Kirkintilloch holding hands with a stranger.

Ian: I’ll get yon baccy burglar for you, no sweat.

I hope you all will be up for next weeks AOUB march in Dundee which will be a big deal for this city so expect a huge turnout.

The route is excellent with maximum exposure to the general public, let’s hope the weather is kind too. I’m expecting this to be special so if you can make it then get here and don’t miss it.

The BBC actually have the protest on their website.
(With pictures)

“Crowd protests in Glasgow against ‘BBC bias'”

Protestors have gathered outside BBC Scotland’s headquarters in Glasgow demonstrating against what they describe as “BBC bias”.

More than 200 people took part in the rally at Pacific Quay on Saturday.

Organisers said the BBC did not “represent the voices of the people of Scotland”.

A BBC Scotland spokesman said the leaders of the protest declined an offer to come inside and speak to senior managers at the organisation.

The protestors waved saltires and anti-BBC banners and heard a range of speeches.

Grand thanks Cactus, knackered from the 3 day trip round Pitlochry up to Ullapool and down. Lot of foreign plates and people commenting on it. Lot of Belgians for some reason, including on my way back down, a convoy of 10-12 Belgian campers heading north. I think they’re on a spying mission, to buy houses here afer our Independence. Or checking out SNP branches. Not so many English as normal, I was a bit worried (English are around 50% of tourists), but then realised – it was the World Cup, and it’s always the same.

Glad to see your memory’s good, by the way 🙂

Colin Alexander

Here’s a question for the FM:

When is this Scot Govt – or any future Scottish Govt – likely to stop breaching the Human Rights Act 1998 / European Convention on Human Rights due to the omission of independent investigations into allegations of breaches of Article 2 and Article 3 of the Human Rights Act (HRA) made against public bodies, such as the Scottish NHS or Police Scotland etc ( that is required, even if it turns out the allegations made were false)?

Articles 2 and 3 are absolute rights, so breaches of these is very much more serious than the Supreme Court’s ruling on Article 8 made against the Scot Govt in the Named Person case.

The pro-Union MSM are already shooting at this open goal the Scottish Govt has gifted them. Expect more of it.

A real chance to discredit the whole SNP – and Indy movement – due to this clear failure of the Scottish Govt, because this is a true story. No need for SNP-bad dishonest propaganda, when there is this real glaring HRA abuse.

The FM/Scot Govt must act immediately to address this serious failure before the whole indy movement is (wrongly) blamed for this serious human rights failure, when it’s the FM and Scot Govt who are letting people down in this very serious issue.

@sandy says: 11 August, 2018 at 10:57 pm:

” … Is possession of a TV licence a Kingdom of England law”

It isn’t a law anywhere it is only a legal requirement to have a licence to receive live video broadcasts. What is against the law is watching live broadcasts without having a licence and that is because you need the government’s permission to watch live video broadcasts.

The law of coercion under Scots law is the equivalent to the English Law of Blackmail. i.e. forcing someone to do something against their will and usually for gain.

Coercion in Scotland takes it some steps further and the law of coercion in Scotland specifically states it even more specifically that, among other things, it is coercion to seek to force someone to do something, or part with money, under threats of taking legal action against them.

This is the same Scots law that prevents other than Police officers, or parking wardens, from clamping vehicles parked on private land in Scotland and demanding a fee to release the vehicle back to the owner of the vehicle.

Yet that is common practice in England, Wales and N.I. In effect the clampers are committing the criminal offence of coercion or demanding money with threats of confiscating the vehicle.

I hope that explains a complex matter a little better for you, sandy.

This is where the BBC Licence fee contractors, (CAPITA), break the law of Scotland but not of the three country Kingdom of England. For every letter they send out. First of all the letter assumes that the occupier of premises watches live video broadcasts. Then it goes on to threaten them with legal action and up to £1,000 fines. and that’s the criminal offence of coercion in Scotland.

They are demanding the occupier must buy a TV licence even although they have no proof that there is even a TV or other live broadcast receiver, (i.e. mobile phone or computer), on the premises.

So they are saying the occupier is guilty of a criminal offence and only a court can do that legally. It is not a crime to own a TV and modern TVs are capable of not only receiving TV frequency broadcasts but they also have on-line and broadcast receivable radio station channels.

You plug in a telephone link for ADSL, an aerial for tv/radio channels, a cable TV line and one for ADSL on-line computer data. Not to mention they are Bluetooth capable.

So a viewer could by watching Netflex on-line for example or a film on cable or streaming a recording from a Bluetooth connected recorder or have a PVR connected to the tv set.

Yet these people are accusing people of criminally watching live TV and also demanding they buy a TV licence, (demanding money), by threatening legal action.

There is thus far more evidence they are guilty of criminal acts than someone with TV sets. It isn’t illegal to own a TV nor is it illegal to not tell the BBC or their agents anything because in spite of their claims that they are, “OFFICERS”, (with their implication being Officers of a law enforcement organisation), they are not – they rely upon a frightened person assuming that when they threaten to send Their, “Officers to Investigate”, that the occupier assumes them to be something like a Police Officer or an officer of a court like a Bailiff.

There is little doubt that CAPITA are scamming people and also stalking them with a barrage of threatening letters.
If a householder sticks up a notice saying, “No cold callers”, “No Hawkers”, or words to that effect CAPIA’s agents are even breaking the law if they come onto private property.

What’s more even if they do come onto a property it is against Scots law to interfere with personal privacy so NO investigations without a court search warrant.

Really speaking the only legal way they are going to get evidence for a conviction is if the occupier lets them into the house or admits to watching live broadcasts or is daft enough to have a TV showing a live broadcast that can be seen through a window. But even them offering evidence to a court of them looking through windows of a private dwelling to gain that evidence is against Scottish privacy of dwellings laws.

They are, plain and simple con-artists.

Robert Peffers @ 1.15am.

I appreciate your reply but am obliged to state that I was fully aware of it’s content, having followed your many well informed previous posts.
My point is (perhaps I had worded it wrongly but) when the government at Westminster passed this edict, under the 1707 Treaty of Union, was the Nation of Scotland consulted & did it give it’s approval?

Now, I appreciate that the elected MPs for Scotland would have voted on this but did they consult their electorate bearing that this was a tax. How did these MPs vote?

Seeing as it is quiet at this hour, a wee bit of OT. My father was headmaster in a rural primary school for many years until his retirement. In the early 60s, I can recall his receiving an official instruction that Scottish history, prior to 1707, was not to be taught in Scottish schools. Needless to say, this was like a red rag to a bull to him. Every child left that school with a more than ground knowledge of their heritage. He had a knack of making what some might think a dry subject onto something of great interest by encouraging questions to be asked. Many, if not all, are now True Scots.

Incidentally, he was aquainted with a couple of the patriots who repatriated our Stone. I believe he was given some information as to it’s whereabouts & told that this will not be revealed until Scotland is a rightfully free country again.

More power to your pen, sir, or should I say, fingers. Facts & truths, keep ’em coming.

“Philippa Whitford said a “power grab” over public procurement could lead to more privatisation in the NHS …. with the Tories in charge of procurement laws and policy, the Scottish Parliament and its voters would lose control over how our key public services are delivered with the future real threat of being opened up to profiteering firms from across the Atlantic.”

Our NHS need Indy to guarantee its survival. That’s a very strong position to campaign from.

@sandy says: 12 August, 2018 at 3:11 am:

” … I appreciate your reply but am obliged to state that I was fully aware of it’s content, having followed your many well informed previous posts.”

Aye! sandy, I had thought you might. My object was, like Ronnie at the BBC protest, to keep the subject on the boil and thus to give others the confidence to not be browbeaten by the BBC Licence enforcement mob when they turn up acting like a law enforcement squad.

The object being to have the Licence fee goons treated as what they are and not what the present themselves as on peoples’ doorsteps. When they are told, “When you are on my property I am in charge of how the matter proceeds – not you”.

Then the, “legal occupier”, is, “investigating”, them not being investigated. For that is what the Scottish law that protects the rights of privacy around a private dwelling is meant to do.

If it is good enough for the Scottish courts to rule that while the likes of Ann Boag,, (Stagecoach in her Scottish castle and Queen Elizabeth at Braemar have the close proximity to their castles legally protected it is equally valid for wee Joe & Josephine Public in their humble single end in Glasgow.

Perhaps the main differences between Scots law and English law is that the Monarch of the Kingdom of England, (and hence her legally delegated United Kingdom Government), cannot be directly sued under English law as under that rule of law they are legally sovereign but they are not above the law of Scotland as the people are legally sovereign.

Which brings us to the next part of your reply:-

” … My point is (perhaps I had worded it wrongly but) when the government at Westminster passed this edict, under the 1707 Treaty of Union, was the Nation of Scotland consulted & did it give it’s approval?”

And the answer is they didn’t need to give or not give their approval because the Treaty of Union stipulates that the two legal systems are forever legally independent of each other but Westminster from day one of the then new, “Parliament of the United Kingdom”, carried on and assumed itself to be the continuing parliament of the Kingdom of England and has illegally continued to do so today.

Which is the real problem that the Scottish Independence movement has to overcome. Before we can convince the entire European Union, or indeed the whole World’s governments and dictatorships, that the United Kingdom is a two partner union of two equally sovereign kingdoms we have to convince ourselves that it is the facts.

The United Kingdom is legally composed of only two equally sovereign kingdoms and the fact that one of those kingdoms has three included countries was always legally irrelevant but has been the way Westminster continued after 1 May 1707.

Westminster is not actually the legal parliament of either the country or the kingdom of England and it hasn’t legally been so since 30 April 1707.

Annent your father and his knack of making history a very interesting and vibrant subject. I was taught history at both primary and secondary level by a brother and sister respectively who also had that capacity.

The brother at primary level and the sister at secondary. Like you I was privileged to study under such born teachers. We pupils of such inspired teachers have to do what we can to forward Scotland’s best interests.

So apologies if I came across as treating you as being ignorant of the facts – I was only using the chance to take another swipe at the Westminster Establishment’s propaganda system.

Now I’m back, time for Part 4 of “Techniques for dilution, misdirection and control of a internet forum.”

————–
Technique #4 – ‘INFORMATION COLLECTION’

Information collection is also a very effective method to determine the psychological level of the forum members, and to gather intelligence that can be used against them. In this technique in a light and positive environment a ‘show you mine so me yours’ posting is initiated. From the number of replies and the answers that are provided much statistical information can be gathered. An example is to post your ‘favourite weapon’ and then encourage other members of the forum to showcase what they have. In this matter it can be determined by reverse proration what percentage of the forum community owns a firearm, and or a illegal weapon. This same method can be used by posing as one of the form members and posting your favourite ‘technique of operation.’ From the replies various methods that the group utilizes can be studied and effective methods developed to stop them from their activities.

Being British doesn’t make you right it just makes you British:

British Nationalists love to get their bit in about their glorious British military as if in some way every young person who joins the army does it out of some deep pride in being more Britishy, these people never give a thought to the idea that perhaps lots of young people see it simply as a chance for a job or to learn a trade useful to them when they leave the military

Do the British Nationalists think kids have the notion that if they hold up a Union flag in front of them bombs and bullets won’t penetrate this glorious emblem of superiority above all other nations

Are the British nationalists not aware that many of these youngsters have a brain and aren’t all that crazy about some of the things and places they’re sent to and some of the jobs they’re told to do

The use of the British military in the argument over Scotlands self determination is a stupid argument based on the idea that all military personell are consumed by Britishy loyalty and that none of them actually might have the brains to dissagree from time to time but have no choice other than to keep their mouths shut and do what they’re told

It’s time British nationalists stopped using silent soldiers as a reason to prop up a failing argument for Britishness so they should stop implying that the deaths of soldiers is a political choice they were and are somehow happy to give in defence of their country when in recent modern times nobody is actually attacking Britain it’s Britain who’s doing the attacking so every life lost is as a direct result of British political maneuvering and not in any way defence of a nation

British politics is sacrificing soldiers then pretending to the population that the soldiers agree with it when they’re not allowed to dissagree with the duty they have to perform

This is in no way dismissing the guts military personell have to summon up to do their job but when the opposition stoop to using people who can’t answer back like the NHS or the Police or the Fire service it’s scummy politics from even scummier people and even more reason for Scotland to become Independent because maybe we’ll be a little more sensible and not use the silence of our service personell to solve or serve our political persuations

They show a map which is by parliamentary seat. This shows swing to Leave or Remain, not majority. One of the yellow (>5% swing to Remain) must be one which has gone Leave to Remain.

Astonishingly, some Scottish Tory seats appear to have swung to Leave. That I don’t understand!

Still, it’s only modelling. 15000 UK voters, means a sample of ~1400 for Scotland, means only 25 voters per constituency! That is way too small for accuracy and conclusions.

My personal conclusion might be the whole modelling thing is bollocks.

Someone at a university has calculated that Banff & Buchan voted leave. He used statistical analysis but it’s not described exactly what these were in any of the newspaper reports (he used census data and age plus presumably other criteria he decided upon). It is merely an estimate, but someone was keen to demonstrate not all Scotland voted remain. He is confident in his results but as the actual result data wasn’t released it is still just an estimate (it isn’t even based on polling people).

He claims it is accurate to within 1% but without comparing this to the actual result there is no way of proving it. So the claim can only be that he believes Banff & Buchan voted leave but can’t actually prove it.

“Excellent comments this morning. Toe rags read tow-rags.”

Aye! jdenham, nice theory – but unfortunately a total and complete myth. The term, “toerag”, like so many other expreesions in the English language, for example, “a cup or char”, stems from misinterpretations of foreign language words by British servicemen, mainly British Army, in the British colonies including Africa and the Indian Raj.

The term is a direct reference to the Tuaregs, (nomadic North African tribesmen), these were seen by the British troops as, and I quote from a long dead friend who spent his life from teenage as a British regular army soldier then joined the MOD, (Admiralty), for the remainder of his working life), ” … Lying thieving bastards”.

However, the the expression is claimed to share some etymology as a UK definition: “from the cloths worn around the foot”.

However, common sense indicates such rags would more likely be termed Footrags as the rags would have been wrapped round the whole foot rather than the individual toes.

The tow-rag story, if you will pardon the pun, doesn’t really hold water.

If you have done any sailing you’d know that you wouldn’t be attempting to defecate over the side of the ship for attempting to do so would see you getting at least a sea waters shower but more probably washed overboard.

Robert Peffers @ 11:00,

There’s a hell of a lot of misinformation going around, both over Brexit and indy, but you can’t just airily dismiss the stats about voter preferences vs age. The facts are what they are.

You yourself have made a stab at explaining at least some of that effect, but that’s not enough. To prevail, we need to change attitudes and beliefs to make a difference, especially among those who not only are the least convinced, but are also are the most likely to turn out and vote.

Which is why gala’s point was at least a step forward. We really need to put the frighteners far more on older folk in particular, who depend disproportionately on public services like the SNHS.

But any and all suggestions for shifting opinion (as opposed to merely “explaining” it) are welcome.

Dave McEwan Hill

The Labour Party in Scotland (or what actually remains of the Labour Party in Scotland) could be absolutely critical in our move forward. We know that a significant proportion of its support voted YES last time and polls are showing that that has increased so the increasingly invisible collection at Holyrood do not represent what is a very significant percentage of the Labour support on this issue.

The media however do not reference this anomaly and still use Labour as a unionist bloc. Without the continued unionist media support Labour in Scotland would evidently be the political irrelevance they actually now are (though another leader may be found for massive media promotion as the UK desperately tries all avenues to stop a slide to independence).

Obviously one waits for and prays from someone among them at Holyrood to grow a pair and try to move Labour in Scotland into its most natural and comfortable position – ie sovereignty for the people of Scotland – but there are enough significant and respected figures in the broader Labour movement for us to hope for an initiative that pulls Labour or much of it into the independence campaign.

I believe the present grubby Tory/Labour coalitions across Scotland are damaging both, but mostly Labour which has gathered support over the years as very specifically an anti Tory body and I suspect Labour’s position on lots of positions, particularly and anti SNP/independence position is very fragile indeed.

Pressure should be put on this weakness – but wisely – and I would look forward to the first recruits across the divide. When one reads Maxton and Hardie etc one understands what Labour in Scotland’s natural and most comfortable position is on the constitutional question.

In the final analysis we are looking at Scotland against the Tories.

Sad for the poor soldiers, as ever fighting wars for idiotic leaders, whose slogans for justifying invasions and occupations are as vapid as they are preposterous.A soldier fights for his comrades. There are very powerful moral obligations at work, those of kinship, regiment and loyalties. Soldiers the world over have never lifted a finger for country.

The job of a Scottish soldier in an Independent Scotland should not be to suffer and die, in our name. It should be to defend our country, to be a part of peace keeping forces when needed and to serve and protect the Kingdom of Scotland.

If only!

Labour played such a big part in IndyRef1 – from fronting BetterTogether to wheeling out their ‘big guns’ for the coup de grâce.

Also, polls then were showing a likely Labour next government at WM, not Tory.

Too many Scots retain a ‘soft spot’ for Labour, giving them credibility they no longer deserve – even if they don’t always vote for them.

In IndyRef2 if Labour were to switch, split, or even adopt neutrality on the issue. It would make a huge difference.

The stick to beat Labour with has been deployed – they have lost many seats and their strangle hold on Scotland.

There is a carrot there for the taking too, though. As independence looks more likely, Labour (or at least a fraction) coming out a definite YES, would guarantee a presence and role in an independent Holyrood. That is something Labour Party folks need to consider.

It is meaningless, Scotland voted overwhelmingly to remain, much more so that staying in the UK, which was a clear and decisive win unionists claim.

” … You yourself have made a stab at explaining at least some of that effect, but that’s not enough.”

No! Robert, what I’ve done is show that there are true reasons for unionist factions, (there are several such factions), being from an older demographic simple does not result from them simply being older does not in itself, predispose a person to be a unionist.

If it did them Arthur Donaldson, (born 13 December 1901), for example, would have been a unionist but he joined the SNP in 1934 when the SNP was formed as a founder, (overseas), member and led the party from 1960 to 1969. Age itself does not make people unionists – it really is as simple as that. Thus blandly claiming being older is the cause is wrong conclusions and very false logical thinking.

Indeed, once more you state well established facts.

” … Which is why gala’s point was at least a step forward …

And once more you draw a totally illogical conclusion because the conclusion does not depend upon the facts – it is thus an illogically falsely drawn conclusion.

Then you take dive overboard with:-

” … We really need to put the frighteners far more on older folk in particular, who depend disproportionately on public services like the SNHS.”

You actually, “Want to put the frighteners”,, upon those of an older demographic.

I’ve explained, in depth, the real reasons who the an older demographic forms the unionist. (and indeed also the non-voters) of the political spectrum and it sure as hell isn’t due to anyone living long enough to be of the age group you wand to, “Put the frighteners into.”

It really is so simple as to be too obvious to be overlooked by sane people.

The Oh! So! Obvious! reason is that since even before there was a Treaty of Union, (since the so called Union of the Crowns perhaps), the established order (a.k.a. the establishment), has been the union, (and before the rise of the Scottish National Party to prominence), it has been the, “Established order”, of all the political parties while the independence movements such as SNP, Sinn Fein and Plaid Cymru were simply fringe parties.

Thus as the independence movement was growing there has to be a corresponding shrinking in the established order. Thus demographic has to be that the Established order will be increasingly more aged and the indy movement less elderly.

You are confusing the cause with the result. When the demographic reaches the point where the indy movement has a majority then it simple means that the new order is ready to overtake the old order but that does not take account of the do not vote demographic.

I’ll put that in a way even you should understand – People are not unionists because they are getting older they are unionists because the norm was unionist until the present time. So the movement is from the old norm until the new norm is independence.

If this were not the case there are a great many, Alert Wingers”, who would be becoming suddenly unionists because they have suddenly reached that elusive special age you imagine they will wake up on their birthday as a unionist.

It is cause and effect and you confuse the two. By putting the cart before the horse will only result in the horse attempting to bolt and crashing into the cart that is before them and you sure as hell will only alienate older unionists if you attempt to frighten the shit out of them.

Trust me on this – do you imagine I’m going to take fright and I’m an octogenarian who has fought against the union my entire life.

Nice. A real winner for any new posters, lurking.

Post your thoughts, for (strict) correction.

We should never forget that three Labour ex provosts of Glasgow came out very publicly for YES at the referendum.

The road is clear, the door is open and I don’t think it would take an awful lot to get most of Labour across (except for the self-serving cadre that the media know all too well).

@Dave McEwan Hill
It might not take much for the whole party to come across, politicians and all. Devolution is being shafted by Westminster, and they’re not happy.

Excellent Chris. Thank you.
