Jakey Rowling daren’t rest on her laurels – there’s competition in the imaginative writing department from Mr/Ms Carroll.

Hamish McTavish

I can only assume that the £1.2Bn from Labour is fully documented in a comprehensive budgetary document using verifiable source material. Or, maybe they just thought it up.

gerry

A minute is a long time in politics indeed.

David Mills

Take two appropriation and conflate them in to an SNPBAD story that what passes for Journalists what next averaging averages.

heedtracker

Hacks like Libby Carrell really do/do not earn their mega bucks.

Capella

@irma on the previous thread c 6.07 am linked to sources showing the IPPR as a Labour think tank run by ex Labour spads.
Amazingly they find Labour’s tax plans great and the SNPs rubbish

Craig Murray

I suspect most of the Guardian’s 8,700 sales in Scotland are libraries, university common rooms, railway station and airport first class lounges, the BBC and other such institutions. I don’t believe any actual person buys it.

No no no...Yes

Severin and his cronies lost the plot ages ago. Their antics to discredit the SNP and upwards of 45% of the electorate have failed spectacularly. The outcome is ridicule and falling sales of the tartan branch newsletter.Oh dear, how sad, never mind.

heedtracker

They’ve gone with the scariest numbers, shock. And this style of SLab idiot

“Jackie Baillie, Scottish Labour’s finance spokeswoman, urged Swinney to retract his comments. “The SNP are so desperate to justify not taxing the richest more they have descended into issuing false statements about impartial analysis from an independent thinktank,” she said.

Did Crash Gordon and the Flipper ever raise this tax in? No. Any independent thinktank stuff on UK wide economic impact with one regional PAYE tax hike? No.

Just another creepy day of UKOK hacks in action. SNPbad, says rancid The Graun, shock.

Dan Huil

Self-destructing britnat media mayhem – and it’s only April!

And of course IPPR is think tank independent of any political party …

“SCOTTISH Labour leaders moved quickly yesterday to try to lessen the damage caused by the sudden resignation of Wendy Alexander’s spokesman.

Matthew Marr became the second Scottish Labour spin doctor to quit in the past few weeks, after he got drunk and became abusive at last week’s Politician of the Year Awards.

Two parliamentary researchers, Kezia Dugdale, who works for the Labour MSP Lord Foulkes, and Russell Gunson, who works for fellow MSP Claire Baker, were seconded to Ms Alexander’s office last night to replace Mr Marr on a temporary basis before a permanent replacement can be found.”

From the Hootsman in 2007.

Russell Gunson is ‘Director, IPPRScotland’.

ScottishPsyche

You have to admire the contortions Slab and their tame journos get themselves into as they try to manipulate imaginary scenarios.

Didn’t Ed Balls say he would not change a thing in the Osborne’s budget?

Can anyone really imagine Dugdale advocating in that scenario different tax rates between rUK and Scotland?

The sad reality is Scotland would still have got massive cuts if Miliband, in his desperate attempt to suck up to Home Counties voters, had got power and Slab and Severin would be defending them.

carjamtic

Ah the age old question wiz Fannie Mae his uncle or his auntie…..diznae matter…..SNP Baaaad.

The colonel media continues its slow spiral down to the depths of the sewer. I wonder when it will be an online only publication, not long I would think.

louis.b.argyll

Didn’t Ed Balls say he would not change a thing in the Osborne’s budget?

Aye,and he lost his seat.

louis.b.argyll

Colonial media, colonic abruption.

Time to move on.
Vote Snp,Snp in May and remain.

Macart

Severin and the IPPR… a match made in heaven. Guardian Scotchland political commentator and Labour vanity project say SNP bad.

Who knew?

What part of disingenuous, manipulative, partisan, double speak bollox doesn’t cut it anymore, do the meeja not understand? Hmmm?

Craigmurray@10.44

Ah, I was just wondering who on earth buys this rag other than two unionist (ex) friends in Scotland. Friends in England buy it and read it every day, bizarrely. They do actually take what the graun says for gospel as well, no idea why, just hard to fathom that one.

One thing they have in common, they do not generally get their info/news from the internet, and do not believe the internet is a reliable source for ‘news’.

Jimbo

Dunno if it’s being done across the country, but where I live our local Spar has been giving away the Telegraph every day for about 2 months now.

The guy in the shop says even giving it away free they still struggle to get people to take it.

David

Severin doesn’t know what will make them sound bad so goes with both

Capella

And Nick Pearce, Director of IPPR

link to powerbase.info

of course, , their research may be immaculate. Have they published their data? But they are not independent.

ScottishPsyche

Ed Balls did indeed lose his seat.

Well why have Tory lite when you can vote in the real thing?

Simon

Nice bit of work, using the APD method of tax calculations there.

SNP tax plans would raise £300 Million in year 2020/21 possibly maybe if OBR are right and everything stays the same and we follow UK tax regime and nothing unforseen happens.

Labour would raise £1.2 Billion absolutely, the money is already being printed

£1.2 Billion – £300 Million = £900 Million Loss

Sinky

Aye and the Daily Wail banners Nicola’s tax grab of hard working middle class but down in third para they state Labour’s plans would double the amount hard working families would have to pay

Jim Thomson

I always made the rash assumption that Guardian readers were at least part-way educated. Does SC’s column appear in all editions of the rag or just in the 8700 that find their way up here?

If his column is in all editions, oh deary me.

Then again, did any of that appear in the PRINT edition? Stuart’s provided screen shots from the website so maybe electric ink is so cheap it really doesn’t matter how appalling the content is because it can always “disappear” before the bulk of their on-line readership tracks it down.

It would be interesting to see the stats for accessing that particular column. Internal management information only.

It might be that SC’s outpourings are resulting in such dire on-line readership figures that he’s been told to make it all more exciting. That’s working.

Provost Sludden

The “get back in your box Jocks” media are all at sea.

We’re no longer the Bill Forsyth North British theme park. Adapt or die.

Sinky

Amazing stuff on Rev’s twitter feed, Lesley Hinds claiming to have sorted out the SNP’s trams mess.

After the PFI Schools fiasco, the last thing voters needed reminding of was Labour’s vanity Edinburgh trams debacle.

ronnie anderson

Ah wee quote from Mr Carroll to Mr Carrell

I can’t go back to yesterday – because I was a different person then.

Scott

heedtracker says:

“Jackie Baillie, Scottish Labour’s finance spokeswoman”

This is a joke is it not I only wish last night Shona Robison had brought up the amount of money PFI had cost I’m Jackie Baillie would have had the figures at her finger tips.

ScottishPsyche

What is even more galling is Severin et al, get regular slots on the BBC spouting their rubbish.

You cannot get away from them even if you don’t buy their dying paper.

Cadogan Enright

“I suspect most of the Guardian’s 8,700 sales in Scotland are libraries, university common rooms, railway station and airport first class lounges, the BBC and other such institutions. I don’t believe any actual person buys it.”

QUESTION
Does anyone know the administrative mechanism whereby Libraries decide to stock the Guardian, and not, say, The National?

How does one alter the ‘buying list’ to reflect current sales and tastes in Scotland?

Is this laid down on a National basis, for the UK as a whole, or Council by Council?

If anyone knows tell the rest of us as this would be an easy target

ClanDonald

Hey, Severin, my washing machine spins at less RPM than you, you’re nearly as efficient as Hotpoint Hothersall when it comes to spinning your load to suit your agenda. I shall refer to you as Servis Sev from now on.

Rancid The Graun’s hypocrisy know’s no depths, shock

From the tory hypocrites what won it, with routine unionist lies, misinforming, misleading and ofcourse by smearing Sturgeon and Salmnond with incest, dubbing swastikas on them and just routine their nationalist bigotry stuff like

Graun trolls now come up with this kind of bullshit

The most powerful pieces are often written by those personally affected by injustice, and the comfortable telling them to tone down the anger for fear of coarsening political debate is unhelpful.

On the other hand, there are certain rightwing bloggers who obsessively fixate on character assassination as a substitute for political substance. Corrupt the reputation of the individual – however tenuous, desperate or unfair the means – and then there is no need to engage in the rights and wrongs of their argument.

G4jeepers

@Cadogan,

Council by council.
I tried to get my local library to put a copy of the WBB on the shelf just after the referendum but they refused it on the grounds of it being political, yet they openly display other political books alongside the Guardian and no sign of The National.

Labour council BTW.

G4jeepers

An independent adjudication officer “deals” with requests…

katherine hamilton

Oh Lord, I’m getting sick of this. The sheer stupidity of it all saps the soul.
By all means examine policies. Even say £300M is not a lot over 5 years in the great scheme of things, which I don’t think it is.
However to conflate two projections to say it will “cost” Scotland is puerile. It’s not money we’ve got yet.

Cancel all PFI’s, no compensation on grounds of deal not delivered.
There’s yer cash.

Nation Libre

It’s worse than that, the Herald has it as PER YEAR

‘Labour income tax plans will raise £900m a year more than SNP’s, think tank reveals’

It’ll soon be £900m per day

FUDS

yesindyref2

I used to post a lot in the Herald in 2012 till I got pre-moderated in the Herald for some odd reason.

But I’d seen the circulation figures in Scotland which were low, and also seen who the customers were for the Guardian, who ordered them.

Mostly it was tourists from the rUK particularly England, or people on business, or second home owners, so Sevvy baby seemed to be largely irrelevant during the rest of the Ref.

Apart from always being good for a laugh.

I check The Guardian on Press Display which gives you a digital copy of the print edition and there was no sign of the article.

While I was scanning through the Guardian I noticed that Frankie Boyle has an article entitled ‘David Cameron has no idea what normal is’ so I’m off to read that.

Well worth looking into.

Everyone please stop posting links to these loony Unionionist papers websites , after reading a few you feel quite dirty and depressed , I have come to the conclusion a good proportion of Scottish people are , 19 caret , batshit f/n stupid , residing in some f/n parallel universe , the thing is they are happy to be protected from Westmonsters cuts by the SNP Government who they hate . Carping from the sidelines appears to be this lots reason for getting up in the morning . I truly despair .

Bob Mack

It doesn’t cost Holyrood anything. It costs us the public. We are the ones who pay the taxes.

Message to S. Carrell.

“S******h” Labour are unelectable, untrustworthy, inept, incompetent, and above all Tories to the core.

And Scotland has seen them for what they are, that is why they are in the desperate state, of their own making, they find themselves in.

Move on, get over it and work for the benefit of all Scots, and not the few wealthy political irrelevancies.

Ken MacColl

Comparing those election proposals for their anticipated effect is a meaningless exercise. It is all too easy to make grandiose pledges when you know that there is no way that you are going to be in a position to implement them.
Severin Carrell has considerable form in his SNPBad bias. Don’t waste time reacting.

John Edgar

What is becoming noticable is that the unionist msm are starting to thrash around. It is due to the seismic shift away from from unionist parties in Scotland. Their
mind sets are still fixed in a state of affairs pre 2015, especially since the SNP moved ahead after 2014. Slab were in decline, the most obvious indicator was Glasgow voted Yes in 2014. The Slab Glasgow council hss big banners up proclaiming “People make Glasgow”. They certainly do and the people voted Yes and kicked out every Labour MP in 2015. The msm never saw it coming. Because they are still operating with different paradigms stuck in the past.
Then one is noticing another trend. Many supporters of the supposed divinely ordained three party system à la Westminster are becoming angry and even at times aggresive as their sense of entitlement is being challenged and they are thrashing about.
Lastly, Slab and the Tories are scrabbling about to clsim to be an opposition in Holyrood. That is downward aspiration driven by a sense of desperation. Never before, as Davidson hss done, has a party put in its election literature that another party, in this case the SNP, will get 50% of the vote, and they m the Tories, aim to be the opposition. That is true desperation and despondency with a smile. But the msm never pick this up.
Fiinally, what do the proclaimers of SNPBAAD in the Telegraph, for example, Cochrane, do when they realise that their constant attacks have been ineffectual? Look for another job? The red tops must realise the game is up. The BBC SCOTLAND news wallahs will have to change Jackie Bird’s autocue and start reporting Scottish affairs objectively.
The pfi fiasco where the L word was hardly mentioned is the finest example of a broadcaster unfit for purpose. It must be galling to think you are shouting at thunder. Having watched the change in ebb and flow of parties in Scotland and the collapse of the unionists, that is gratifying. What will be more gratifying will be to see that realignment within a new independent Scotland where the reconstructed unionists can finally discover they can operate free from their head offices pulling the strings. It is nice to see the Tories through gritted teeth and faux smiles having to operate in Holyrood , an institution they opposed vehemently. Nice irony.

Donald Anderson

I thought it was only Rd Brits who read the Guardian.
