Oh and while we’re at it…… “They argued that the UK and Scottish regulatory corpora would naturally diverge, and those with clients in both the UK and Scotland would have two systems to contend with.
But I can’t really see why any of this would pose much of a problem for an organised and qualified industry. In the world of investments, where European fund passporting rules are well established, an independent Scotland would barely make any difference at all.”
What’s next? Will Cameron introduce an extra jumper tax? How much do the people have to swallow before they realise the insanity and only solution is a YES vote?
Extract from a terrific piece on Newsnet
In March Professor Kemp describing the OBR’s revised forecasts as “contrary to the evidence from the industry.”
Others to challenge OBR predictions included Chief Executive of Oil and Gas UK, Malcolm Webb who said that tax revenues from the sector can now be confidently expected to rise over the coming years.
Speaking to energy magazine ‘Enterprising Energy’ earlier this year, he said: “…the projects approved in 2011 and 2012 alone will over time produce more than two billion barrels of oil and gas, generate £100 billion value for the economy and an additional £25 billion in production taxes for the Exchequer.”
Challenging claims that the sector is running down, Mr Webb added: “The North Sea oil and gas sector, contrary to what some sources say, still has a long productive life ahead of it; we estimate 50 years or more.”
Further evidence of the huge revenue still to be extracted from Scotland’s waters came in May when economists at the Paris based Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) forecast that the price of a barrel of oil will rise to between $150 and $270 throughout the coming decade.
The OECD envisaged a baseline value for a barrel of oil of $190 which, they said will lead to an independent Scotland benefiting to the tune of between £2.25 trillion and £4 trillion.
Another dagger into Ali Darlings black heart on the Currency Union…..
‘Respected and Independent Think Tank’ (as I believe these bodies are now officially called)….says no matter what way you split it the UK’s debt rises.
It’s amazing but when folk actually look at and examine the White Paper they come to completely differing conclusions to the guy who speed read it in an hour……
The white paper is a slow burner and as people actually read and discuss it, the scare stories and nonsense from Better Together will seem (even) more threadbare and unconvincing.
There is something steady and inexporable about it (like the YES campaign as a whole) and it will be being discussed long after the IFS papers and other tendentious trash are long forgotten.
Cameron in China is big news on BBC Radio Scotland as are the energy prices reduction promises by Ed Milliband.
Strangely when the SG visit China and promise energy price reductions last month well ahead of Dave and Ed the silence on BBC Radio Scotland was deafening.
My wife and I are into our late sixties. We are well into the fuel poverty zone where a lot more than ten percent of our income is spent on keeping us warm. We don’t have the heating anywhere near the recommended 21 deg.C: it’s usually around 17 to 18 deg. C and we often turn the heating off during the day.
If we were to heat our home to 21 deg. C we would end up destitute.
Does David Cameron and his merry band of millionaires really believe that reducing our heating bill by £50 per annum is going to help us in any meaningful way?
That works out at twenty five quid each over a fecking year.
greatbaldo> Of course the advisor industry will support anything that makes life more complicated. It’ll be the ordinary punter who has any financial interests in both England and Scotland who will end up paying their fees.

I’m shocked and dismayed that my auntie would consider telling lies but hiding the truth , well! the old bitch, . .ach! she’s is 90 years old, time to send her to a home and get a new SBC in 2016.
Well that one way to cut fuel poverty! Just not in a morally or ethically acceptable way to most of us up here!
OT thanks for posting links to Bloomberg articles etc. 10 months to go giving plenty time to expose No campaign’s stance on the currency and Europe – the only 2 issues that ever seem to get brought up now!
Well at least the MSM have noticed. When Cameroon was crowing about unemployment dropping nobody seem to look at the correlation between people being sanctioned (therefore not ‘unemployed and in receipt of benefit’) and said fall.
If I remember correctly this is an old stunt by the tories, as the tories in Thatcher’s time used the same trick to lower the unemployment figures in the eighties.
Same tricks by the same type of bastards, the very idea of actually grabbing the energy companies by the throat / balls and squeezing till they come back to planet earth does not occur to them. They are not going to the ones to die from not being able to turn their heating on.
I think that the only way that gas / electiricity can be reduced or usage kept within reasonable limits is for all homes to fully insulated and double glazed especially the older builds which are really difficult to keep warm.
My pre-war three bed flat has just had cavity wall and loft insulation completed under the Scottish Goverment scheme and didn’t cost me anything even though I am in full employment.
I wonder if homes built with bricks and mortar after the war can be done in the same manner.
Like you Roughbounds I’m not sure what I will just over £4.00 per month. By the time this comes through some other bill will go up.

They concentrate on asking about EU and currency because the answers are in Westminsters power and they are not going to answer because they want the waters as muddy as possible.
Wouldn’t it be nice to tie these two bottons together using their colourful neckties, then sling them over the lamp-wires? They’re a big pair of Klackers right enough. link to retrowow.co.uk
Are these two pricks laughing at us? How many more will die this winter because of the likes of these two ignorant bastards? We need to get out of this diabolical union as their policies are criminal and an affront to human decency. The quiet revolution had better hurry up and achieve it’s peaceful aim. I’m sure I’m not the only one angered by this inhumane governance from Westminster!
For freedom, social justice and a quality of life vote Yes in 2014!
Oh John I’m so sorry. The price has gone up an awful lot in the past five years. I was cross as I was driving home this evening, realising I’d forgotten to re-set the timer after an evening out on Friday, so I was going home to a cold house. But at least I could turn it on when I got in, because I can afford the oil.
I’m so sorry. We’re an oil-rich nation and we need to fix this.
If I remember correctly this is an old stunt by the tories, as the tories in Thatcher’s time used the same trick to lower the unemployment figures in the eighties.

About as useful as massaging unemployment rates using 0-hour contracts and workfare… 🙁

Seeing as Mr Vile and Mr Odious are both in the pic……
Turns out their pals in the city actually agree that a Currency Union would be the preferable option….

So two of Darling scare stories effectively debunked and neither the Journalist or Institutions can be described as biased towards the SNP…….
We need to tweet/forward articles like this to any NO or Don’t knows you know……
Just when you thought that it could not get any worse!
Well actually I think it could get a lot worse and it will, unless.
Its the same scam as – the Great Gordo alleviated child poverty, by making us poorer rather than them richer
What’s next? Will Cameron introduce an extra jumper tax? How much do the people have to swallow before they realise the insanity and only solution is a YES vote?
Sorry, meant to say good to see you back so soon Stu. Hope all is as well as can be expected.
Redefining madness. At this rate even the uninterested will surely start to ask questions!
