The Sturgeon Show
The First Minister’s appearance on The Daily Show last night in full:
(Despite what Jon Stewart says at the end, that’s everything that was broadcast [EDIT 11.35am: though we’ve now managed to get hold of another seven minutes of unbroadcast bonus footage and will have it for you later]. Though it clearly falls within the permissible category of “news reporting” with regard to copyright, Viacom, who own The Daily Show, are hysterically aggressive when it comes to having clips pulled from video sites, so we’ve also uploaded it here in case the link above dies.)
Here it is, your moment of Zen

‘What? You think you’re Saddam Hussein?’ Comedian Jon Stewart mocks Nicola Sturgeon on US TV when she complains SNP did not win ALL the seats in Scotland
You just can’t imagine any other politician doing so well on a show like that….
Is there anything Nicola can’t do?
(The answer is “lose elections”, hopefully.)
My God she’s incredible. What a performer.
She’s absolutely superb
Thanks for that Stuart.
Very light-hearted but she got her points across very well.
`They don’t like it when you throw their stuff in the water. Have you tried that?’
Maybe we should.
As expected, Nicola did very well.
I though Stewart had moved on but am very happy he interviewed her. I enjoyed his comment about hearing Scotland had oil and wanting to invade us.
Who would have thought it – Scotland’s First Minister more popular than the UK’s prime minister and spreading the good word around the globe.
We have Nicola Sturgeon leading the SNP.
Labour are about to promote Ms Dugdale to Dim Jim’s Irn Bru throne.
Tories have Ruthie Tank Commander.
Fib Dems have that little lad from Kelty and Honest Ally from the Isles.
Happy days.
Ya beauty!
Knock out performance.
They’ll be seething in the streets of Westminster.
An intelligent, tough but popular politician. She also comes across as incredibly comfortable / natural in any environment.
Nicola really is a superb.
“You CAN take the girl out of Ayrshire”
Thanks for posting that. Nicola really is a natural, probably because she means what she says and doesn’t have to dissemble to get focus groups approval. Great clip.
Just watch the clip with Nicola. Think I can see another career for her if she decides to leave politics.
She was billed as a comedian, she managed to keep up with Jon Stewart.
Good work from her, giving as good as she got.
And promoting Scotland to the USA
What a star!
And Ian Macwhirter recently wrote she couldn’t match Alex Salmond’s legacy – we’ll see.
Full Extended interview is here if you have a US VPN.

Great stuff. And the key is as she says “Scotland is a prosperous country”.
This is the only argument we have to win
I am concerned about the morass we are getting into on the “more powers” campaign. We are beginning to sound like we are begging (which, of course,we are on any of the devos or FFA) while our opponents are allowed to trot out the “black holes” and the false “generosity” of the Barnett Formula.
I even have members of the SNP bemoaning to me that we have abandoned independence so I hope there is a time bar on this supplication we are involved in (especially as it is being distorted by the media – who’d have believed that?)
It didn’t take long for the “Scottish” Sun to turn on us. Sly and nasty digs two days running from Andy Nichol. They used us as a part of their campaign to beat Labour and it worked rather too well
She’s a star. Well done, hen.
thank you soooo much for this, been hunting for it all morning. So proud of Nicola and Scotland.
Another reason why they fear “The most dangerous Woman”.
That’s ma girl Nicola – you make me so proud!
She did well. I see there is the first Holyrood poll for 2016. SNP at 60% in the constituency and 50% on the list in TNS poll. Not much comfort for Labour.

Over to you Kez!
What a world class First Minister we have.
Barnstorming appearance. Always a risky strategy on this sort of television show, as President Barack Obama found out in the infamous “Hey Dude” Daily Show broadcast.
But that is probably the whole thing that mark’s Nicola Sturgeon out as an exceptional leader. She actually takes these challenges head-on with candour and honesty. She engages with the outside world as well as inside Scotland.
Maybe a lesson for the closeted Conservative/LibDem and Labour folk. Try debating outwith members only events and meet the public. After all they are the ones that vote for you, or in the case of what we have just seen (thankyou Stu), several million Americans and a possible population of 260,000,000 who must have received a positive impression of Scotland – and many will now visit and help our economy too.
What a brilliant First Minister.
Just loved that broadcast. Edgy, humorous and struck the right note.
Scotland couldn’t wish for a better ambassador. It was a fun interview, not delving into serious issues, but that enabled people to see her as a real person, with that political rarity, GSOH. Perhaps she should be re-billed as “The most humorous woman!”
Dave McEwan Hill 10:34am
Remember that Cameron and Darling both said that Scotland could be a successful country during indyref. It’s just they don’t want us to be free, they need our resources.
Nicola on Jon Stewart. I had tears streaming down my cheeks, brilliant interview and it confirms our First Minister is a fantastic ambassador for Scotland. No doubt the “SNPbad” crew will be out in force today trying to pick holes.
Shouldn’t have told the United States we have oil, now all it will take is some Unionist to say ” one party state” and we’ll have regime change lol.
I am very, very impressed. Entirely natural. And actually very important to get educated Americans comfortable with the concept of an independent Scotland.

Just read the Daily Mail article. What an abysmal excuse of a newspaper that is. So sad.
[…] The Sturgeon Show […]
I wonder if she found a moment to ask Stewart about his Scottish heritage?
@Grouse Beater
That would have been funny as his real name is Leibowitz.
Thought Jon Stewart was extremely gracious in the second half of the interview (last 7 minutes). First class performance by Nicola – finely calibrated to appeal to the Daily Show audience. Breath of fresh air.

Here in BBC England, its another black out on Scotland. Tons of BBC stuff on a dude that walked across Wembley arch though.
Nicola- as wonderful,as ever.
Lucky us! The Unionists must be green with envy.
I liked Jon Stewart’s faux serious point about oil that switched to asking about invading for the oil.
And a great reply to the audience on it from Nicola.
Nicola is absolute fantastic; knowledgeable and witty.
I’m so proud of her. Can anyone ever imagine Dugdale filling her shoes with her manic, inane chatter, aggressive body language and nasty facial expression, Curran telling Jon Stewart that ”we’re not genetically programmed in Scotland to make political decisions” or creepy Jim alternating between his whispery ‘smooth talking’ to drowning Stewart out?
Nicola was plugging Scotland constantly. Good for her. If only we had our own Embassies manned (wo-manned!) by some of our many, many multi-talented, genuinely friendly and trustworthy Scots.
Her visit to the US must be sticking in the UNION craw, as seen re. one example of the twisted version of events published in Mailonline (heedtracker post).
Then again how dare we! How dare we venture outside of Scotland, talk down (expose) Westminster and promote the Scots. Let’s not forget the Westminster mantra that keeps on telling us, and everyone else, that Scotland is too wee, too poor and that the Scots are too stupid. Nicola just reminded them of our many inventions, lol!
With Nicola, Alex and the 55 at the helm now these days are well and truly over. And of course they have us backing them all the way.

Nicola came over as a genuine humorous human being!
How refreshing and engaging.

Sturgeon promoting Scotland on the world stage and doing an excellent job too. Witty and charming with a wee cutting edge tempered with humour.
Carrying on from Salmond and then some!

Och, that was just great! Very relaxed and in her own skin as always…not easy to go on to comedy/satire shows with such excellent incisive minds such as John Stewart’s, she did wonderfully, and a great boost for us all, when we are literally bombarded with negativity and sour grapes on a daily basis.
Refreshingly normal viewing, with Nicola easily catching on to the nuance of his humour. She’s a quick study, as they say. 🙂
real name is Leibowitz.
PS – His middle name is ‘Stuart’. I suspect he altered it to ‘Stewart’ because Americans tend to ignore spelling that’s unnecessarily complicated.
@Grouse Beater
We have synagogues in Scotland too, you know. And I believe Jewish people visit them from time to time. 🙂
Yes I’m very aware of that. I was just pointing out Stewart isn’t his real name. But I would have loved to have heard his response if NS had asked that question.
OT Carmichael fund target of £60K reached.
Happy birthday Fiona
The bit I liked was when Jon Stewart said ” they don’t like it when you throw their stuff in the water, have you tried that?”
I laughed out loud at that.
Nicola did so well. Love or loath the USoA, you can’t ignore it.
From what I’ve read, ordinary Americas aren’t really very clued up about Scotland as a country, far less our aspirations. We need to raise Scotland’s profile.
I’ve heard stories of people confusing Scotland with Ireland. Some even thinking tartan and bagpipes are culturally Irish.
While I’m wary of drawing too many parallels between the historical paths taken by Scotland and Ireland, I don’t think anyone could challenge the proposition that a high profile for the cause of Irish self determination did Ireland any harm.
Also, there are nations on this planet the U.S. President would not dare say negative things about for fear of alienating sections of US voters! Yet, Obama was able to be negative about Scotland. There is no significant Scottish lobby in the U.S. to keep him in line!
We need to make Americas of Scottish descent more aware of ‘the old country’.
sionnach,
She did delve into serious issues.
She very strongly made the point that America was once a Westminster colony. A pretty strong rebuttal of Obama’s it looks ok to me comment.
That point alone can change the way that US people view the independence debate.
Nicola in USA cracking jokes and we have the joke Trump here talking utter pysh…have I awoken in a parallel universe?
@heedtracker – thanks for the link to the DM article. link to archive.is
Good grief. That whole article is clutching at straws to attempt drag down their current figure of hate, from a lighthearted, 5 min skit.
DM comment – “Then as the pre-recorded show got under way, Stewart got the name of her party wrong, calling it the ‘Scottish Nationalist Party’.”
Just like the BBC, and the rest of UK MSM
DM comment – “There was a final sting in the tail on the show as Stewart said ‘will you stick around a bit, we’ll talk a little foreign policy, countries you’d like to bomb’ before going to a commercial break – but the First Minister did not feature in the short section of the episode after it.”
Are they so lacking in mental ability at the DM they can’t see this comment as a one line joke, not a promise to carry on the chat?
And again the quotes from twitter suggest she connected to the public. (Ignoring Skylar 🙂
Article says more about the DM than the interview the article is supposedly based on.
Well done on reaching the £60k for The People vs Carmichael.

Isn’t that a characteristic of everyone that wants Scotland to be free of the never ending freak show in London, Westminster, their endless wars, corrupt BBC, neo fascist press, tax dodger City spivs, royals grovelling red and blue tory boy Oxbridge, UKIP creeps, ranting Bettertogether nutters online etc…
Trying to imagine JoLa doing that one.
Mind you JiMu would have been interesting TV, when Jon Stewart slashed his wrists.
When he said “They don’t like you putting things in their water”
She could have said “We’re not too keen on them taking things out of ours.”
And THAT ladies and gentlemen, is how you raise and normalise Scotland’s friendly and prospectively independent profile with overseas meeja.
Master class. 🙂
Today is all good……a stoater…..;-)
Thanks Rev/WOS 🙂

Such a talented leader, comfortable in any environment, and exuding charm, and humour.
Could you imagine Dave (or Ossie??) doing that show?
Well done, lassie!
Jon Stewart “And lets welcome tonights Special guest, from Scotlands labour party, kezia Dugdale!”
Crowd woop as kezia enters stage right and takes a seat.
Jon Stewart : “So Kezia, welcome, now is that a scottish name?”
Kezia : “Jon, if i can stop you there, what the labour party members names origin is not what the issue is here, sure we made mistakes with names in the past and we wont rectify all our names in the immediate present but whats clear is that due to the SNPs awful records of names education, no one can tell me that i should not be proud to be pooling and sharing names with our english colleagues in the labour party!”
Jon Stewart: “Goodnight!!”
Well done on reaching the £60k for The People vs Carmichael.
Terrific! Will Carmichael’s tactic be vindictive?: bleed everybody’s funds dry and only then resign.
The dug has a go at the Scots patter.
Excellent and making a few good points about the ‘Scotland Bill’.

What is interesting now about the MSM. Is that despite over 50% of Scotland voting SNP. They are still on a witch hunt for the SNP. We thought they might change but alas they can only bang the British drum!

What a great ambassador we have in Sturgeon. That was absolute class. Politicians being interviewed on comedy shows are usually cringeworthy but Nicole handles it phenomenally.
And the extended version is well worth watching too.
Could you imagine Kezia Dugdale on The Daily Show…?
Superb.
Quite positive there is now a large group of Americans left thinking “yeah, I’d have no problem with an independent Scotland”.
And they’d have a smile on their face saying it.

“DM comment – “Then as the pre-recorded show got under way, Stewart got the name of her party wrong, calling it the ‘Scottish Nationalist Party’.”
I Know the DM said that. But if you listen to his introduction he quite clearly refers to her as leader of the Scottish National Party. I noticed that at first listen.
So the DM is not often right but it’s wrong again.
@Grouse Beater
Okay it’s not his real name surname. Talk about pedantic.
OT Excellent TNS poll 🙂

Watched the video and it is a breath of fresh air to be able to see and enjoy our first minister just being herself. I think the likeable factor about Nicola is that she is so relatable. We can all relate to her in some way.
My daughter asked me why I liked her and I said it is because I can believe in her.
She isn’t putting on a front, what you see is what you get.
imafan, “DM comment – “There was a final sting in the tail on the show as Stewart said ‘will you stick around a bit, we’ll talk a little foreign policy, countries you’d like to bomb’ before going to a commercial break – but the First Minister did not feature in the short section of the episode after it.”
Daily Show seem to do that extended interview for their online broadcast. The show is 20 minutes long in a half hour slot with ads, so they extend the interview with politicians into the hour online. They did it with Presidents Obama and Clinton and now Sturgeon.
If you’re a Daily Show fan here, you can usually see their satire completely ripped off within days by what’s left of BBC satire, which is pushing the meaning of contemporary satire on planet tory boy UKOK world.
Nicola’s visit to the US is getting a mention on the Daily Politics Show. WOW!
No not really everyone has to guess who Jon Stewart compared her to on his programme. Jo Coburn displayed photographs of four characters Saddam, Thatcher and another couple (didn’t catch them).
Anyway it doesn’t look as though the DP show is going to broadcast anything positive at all to their many viewers rather leave them all thinking that Stewart thinks, ha ha, that Nicola is akin to Saddam.
Patrick Grady SNP is on the show now. Coming across as being very articulate, highly intelligent and of course politically savvy.
SNP MPs are on that show most days now however I get the feeling that Jo Coburn and Andrew Neil are hoping they’ll come a cropper but it ain’t working. Far from it.
Thanks for the link Ten Thirty
Excellent video footage Rev, thank you.

What a rag, masquerading as a newspaper the DM is. However it does serve a purpose; if ever you feel the need to reinforce your conviction that Scotland needs to be an independent nation, a quick glance at that vile publication will stiffen your resolve. Not good for the blood pressure though, and you need to go and have a quick read of Wings immediately afterwards to get rid of that queasy feeling!
It’s odd about the headlines newspapers choose. Some claimed they cheekily choose a controversial take to get the reader interested.
It’s having the opposite effect on me now. I see ‘Saddam’ and think, I can’t be bothered reading that article, or even that paper. I used to read three newspapers, I now read two and these are not any of the three I used to read.
Daily Heil is the modern day Lord Haw Haw, twisting stories to suit their Nazi agenda. Truly boakworthy.

Many politicians would flounder in this sort of situation, not Nicola though. She was charming, funny and clearly won over the audience and Jon Stewart himself. She is a credit to our country and a wonderful ambassador for Scotland.
Can you imagine if the PM of say Finland, Sweden or Norway for example had gone to America and wowed audiences with a star performance. People there would be very proud and their newspapers and TV would reflect that. What do we get?
Nicola Surgeon compared to Saddam Hussein.
I really hope that when we gain independence our media is consigned to the dustbin of history where it belongs.
Weel done First Miniser.

Nicola Sturgeon is surprisingly leaving our Eck in her wake. And thats saying something. What a star and a fantastic amabassador for us.

Life’s too short, James, to let vanity make a fool of you.
Even if he had had no Scots lineage it would still be relevant to ask him why he chose ‘Stewart’ as a surname.
US chat hosts such as Jay Leno are harder to identify as part-Scots from their name but his mother was Scottish, less so for Clint Eastwood. (‘Eastwood’ = Glasgow, geddit?)
The topic is about Sturgeon’s appearance on Stewart’s satirical show; what did you think of her appearance? – and I don’t mean what she was wearing.

First of all you started this topic when you asked “I wonder if she found a moment to ask Stewart about his Scottish heritage?”. I merely pointed out that his real surname wasn’t Stewart, I assumed that you had implied Scottish heritage as a result of the surname. Am I wrong about that?

“James123: His real name is Leibowitz.
We have synagogues in Scotland too, you know. And I believe Jewish people visit them from time to time. 🙂
Here’s a thing, Grouse Beater. There is only one country in Europe that has NOT had an official legal pogrom against the Jews and that country is Scotland.
The first written record of Jewish settlement in England dates from the reign of William I in 1070. The Jewish presence in England continued until King Edward I’s, “Edict of Expulsion”, in 1290. After which there was no Jewish community, (apart from individuals practising Judaism secretly). Oliver Cromwell never officially readmitted Jews to Britain but a small colony of Sephardic Jews, living in London, was identified, and reported, in 1656 and they were allowed to remain.
Even after the Act Of Union of 1706/7, there was the UK/English, “Jewish Naturalisation Act of 1753”, that attemptted to legalise the Jewish presence in England. It only lasted a few months.
The Jewish Emancipation is historically dated to either 1829 or 1858 when Jews were finally allowed to sit in the United Kingdom’s Parliament. Although Benjamin Disraeli, (born Jewish), was an MP long before that. It was not until the Irish leader, Daniel O’Connell, steered through Westminster the UK/English law “De Judaismo”, in 1846, (this law had prescribed a special dress for Jews), was repealed.
However, under the independent Scottish Legal system there was never a legal pogrom against the Jews in Scotland. So there you go, Grouse Beater, Jews were only legally allowed in the three country Kingdom Of England if they wore, “Special Dress”, until after 1846.
Shades of the Third Reich and the NAZIs. Perhaps if we Scots were all promise to always wear, “See You Jimmy”, hats while in the three country Kingdom of England we would be much more tolerated by the Unionist Anglo Saxon natives. Who knows, they might even then accept our shared currency banknotes.
I wonder how many WoS commenters knew the Englanders only allowed Jews in their Kingdom if they wore a special uniform to identify them as recently as 1846? That’s just 169 years ago and the Third Reich began just 82 years ago.
Yes, Sturgeon on Stewart is preparing ground for Ref 2, and a litte Obama-slapping perhaps.
OT Carmichael – if I have this right, the £60,000 is £30,000 for the islanders’ costs, and £30,000 for Carmichael’s in case the petition is lost.
Presumably it’s the same the other way around, so Carmichael or the LibDems would be liable for their own costs, and the islanders’ costs, if the petition is upheld. Though the QC might have to ask separately for costs to be granted.
OT again. From STV 2 hours ago
The deadline for Mr Carmichael’s legal team to submit a response is Tuesday and it is understood they will be handing it into the Court of Session later.
A spokesman for the Liberal Democrats said: “A response to the petition has not yet been submitted, but one will be presented to the Court of Session in Edinburgh later today.”

That, in the United States, is not in any way surprising as much of the Scottish immigration to the USA from Scotland went via the Irish Plantations. Note also that the language, “Ulster Scots”, is officially recognized by the EU as a dialect of Lowland Scots.
Now here’s a wee factoid that is not generally known in either modern Scotland nor in the modern USA. The Term, “Hillbilly”, (used to describe the mountain peoples of the USA), comes from the fact these people were so named, not as supporters of King Billy, but due to the religious persecutions and trouble caused in Ireland due to King Billy.
These people were Scottish-Irish immigrants, both Catholic & Protestant, who left for America to escape the religious persecutions going on in Ireland. They were indeed mainly Irish of Scottish descent.
Is it just me who found that totally surreal?

Nicola comes across as a person who genuinely cares about those around herself – and is not in any way bothered about her own image and, like Alex Salmond before her, really is just one of us, (and by, “us”, I mean just a genuine human being).
if you listen to his introduction he quite clearly refers to her as leader of the Scottish National Party.
Ah right. That’ll explain why the DM thought he’d got it wrong then – ‘Goodness, surely every right thinking English journalists knows they’re actually called the Scottish Nationalist Party?’
It was Scottish National Party he said.
I hope Nicola gave him a copy of “How the Scots Invented the Modern World” by Arthur Herman as a thank you present.
@ capella 12:24
In *that* clip he says “National” but I am sure in the trailer/intro he says “Nationalist”
I heard this on GMS this morning and stomped about the house handing out breakfasts for a while but later on it was indeed “National” that he uses at the moment he introduces Nicola.
But again – DM just a pile o’ s–t not worthy of a fish supper.
If you go on Youtube and search Jon Stewart & Nicola Sturgeon it has been flooded with people taking the bit about Stewart jokingly comparing her with Saddam Hussein out of context and trying to make out that it is a serious accusation. There are no depths to which they will not stoop.

I must have had a very short attention span!
Totally charming performance.
i didn’t even cringe once!
@ Gautier 1.30pm
Filled in a return, but you should understand British is a geographical term, as in the British Isles. An independent Scotland will still be British.
Desimond @ 12 p.m.:
If you promise to keep him, we’ll get President Clinton or Sanders (or O’Malley) to support YES in Round II…
Doug Daniel : ‘Is there anything NS cant do, lose elections hopefully’
In the recent Panorama, she said she’d lost 7 or 8 elections. But this has proved invaluable. She knows how hard it is to persuade people and how hard it has been to get people to vote for her. She knows she can’t take the electorate for granted.
Just try to imagine Kezia Dugdale on that show? Not capable. No contest. Basically what Petra said at 11:31am
Not too wee. Not too stupid. Who’d have thunk.
James123: I merely pointed out that his real surname wasn’t Stewart
Check your first post again and you’ll see you made no mention of a surname, but ambiguously implied ‘Stuart’ was not his name. Bye.
Did anybody see Alex Salmond in full spate during the EU debate in the HoC?
I managed to catch all of it – an eye opener showing the degree to which he’s detested by Tories and marginalised by Labour – expressions and comments infantile, but he floors them all by knowing his brief to a detail.
I listened to a man who believes in the democratic process and watched men who hate every aspect of it.
Robert Peffers: Here’s a thing, Grouse Beater. There is only one country in Europe that has NOT had an official legal pogrom against the Jews and that country is Scotland.
Great comparison to make, Robert, to England’s treatment! 🙂
@Grouse Beater,
Yep, saw that, quite striking stuff from Mr Salmond
It can be read here, about half way down

@Grouse Beater

I said “That would have been funny as his real name is Leibowitz”
Leibowitz equals surname.
You have a good night now.
James123: I said that would have been funny as his real name is Leibowitz”
Well, I am still looking for the joke.
Whether you meant to, or not, only you can tell us, but what is clear from your sentence is it implies Stewart has no Scots heritage because he once had a Jewish last name. Only you didn’t state he junked his Jewish name early in his life. (He disliked his disloyal father.) Having a Jewish name first, middle or last does not negate being part Scots.
If you meant he has no Scots blood let’s see your evidence.
If you meant nothing at all, why the comment?
🙂
Square Haggis: quite striking stuff from Mr Salmond
A bravura performance, Haggis.
If a young parliamentarian I’d study his speech and responses to interjections over and over again to learn how to handle a brief and communicate it well to MPs and voters.
And many thanks for the link!
Keep getting an annoying box appear over Wings pages – “The identity of this website and its integrity cannot be verified”.
Well, I should hope not. The notion Wings might become respectable horrifies!
@Grouse Beater
You asked “I wonder if she found a moment to ask Stewart about his Scottish heritage?”
The only reason I could think of why you would ask that question is because you thought Stewart was his real surname as that would imply a possible Scottish connection. If I’m wrong then sorry about that but if so that’s fine, many people would be unaware that he changed it from Liebowitz, I only know because I’ve been a fan of his for more years than I care to remember.
I thought it would have been funny if NS had asked about his Scottish heritage in a tongue in cheek way, knowing fine well of the name change and the actual lack of any connection. I’m sure Stewart would have had a brilliant response as he’s a top class comedian.
As I said I’ve followed him for years and I’ve never heard him mention anything about a Scottish connection, he’s spoke about his family coming over to the US from eastern Europe, I think particularly the Baltic states.
Can that be the end of it you argumentative sod 🙂
Grouse Beater – you have been a tad ‘sensitive’ of late…
James123: I’ve followed him for years and I’ve never heard him mention anything about a Scottish connection
We have that in common. Living Stateside I make sure I catch the show most evenings, or catch up at weekends. Frustrating in Scotland because global monopoly Viacom clamps down on topical editions.
I don’t think Stewart wears his heart on his sleeve so unlikely to go into background, but being naturally curious I’m keen to learn about his heritage. Not every American would know that to alter ‘Stuart’ to ‘Stewart’ doesn’t lose anything.
Sturgeon fitted in naturally to Stewart’s riffing, though to be frank, she’s not as eloquent as I would like, but she is very down-to-earth. People like uncomplicated politicians who answer questions without dissembling.
Seeing my adopted surname nobody can tell I’m half-Sicilian. I don’t use my father’s surname. But when folk meet me for the first time the conversation often gets round to asking if I have Mediterranean relatives. Scots can tell a sallow skin at 100 yards.
Argumentative sod.
No argument intended – clarification, yes. My wife read your comments en passant and said, “Poor bugger. He has no idea who he’s taken on.”
Right woman, right place, right time.
This is the most embarrassingly sycophantic commentary I’ve yet read by nationalists. I’m not party political but while Sturgeon is definetly a capable politician, there’s very very few within the SNP of her ilk. Except Salmond. Reading the above comments is like going to an Old Firm game: no matter the facts, blinkered, bigoted fans will never recognise them. And any commentary against the SNP is a conspiracy. From London. I’m scottish but embarrassed to say so because so many unsophisticated, twee, Runrig fans who are stuck in the year 1314 think its kinda “cool.” Cringeworthy.
Rab
No. It’s you who are cringeworthy and obviously consumed by the metropolitan political bubble whose knowledge of Scotland and the SNP is infantile.
I would guarantee that the SNP group in the Commons now is by a long way the most able group in it.
Pray let us know what you know about “their ilk” – or even any of them at all for that matter.
Give us an example or two. We’ve plenty of time.
