Wings Over Scotland

Let’s talk about you some more

Posted on June 14, 2013 by

We’re naturally nosy sorts, and with literally tens of thousands of readers having come to the site since our first major reader poll, we’ve decided it makes more sense to keep it open permanently so that new users can express their views too.

So if you only took part in the more recent second one, now’s your chance to tell us what you think about a whole range of subjects. And if you’re too new to have even voted in that one (or just forgot, or couldn’t be bothered), we’ve merged it into the first one, so you can do both at once if you like.

The poll can now be found under “Survey” in the top menu bar, and is here.

I consider Rev’s weighting methods more reliable.

    Yes, that’s what it does.

The correct answers are C,B,B,A,C,A,A,B,C,A,A,B and B.

    But not in that order.

Couple of those were quite tricky. Went for EFTA, not anti EU but I don’t trust Rompuy and Barosso so I think on balance it is safer to stay out. No strong views re the Monarchy. If Charles were to be crowned in Edinburgh with the Scottish regalia I think he would probably swing any referendum. William and Kate? Too early to tell.

Maybe show SSP as a separate voting choice?
Taxation maybe how you see “wealthy”. Maybe start employment taxes only above £15K earnings, 10% to 50% scales thereafter.  No upper rate tax relief on private pension contributions.
Would like to avoid lower paid workers having the state tax their income and then make them claim credits or benefits.
Sorry if this appears twice.  Had my daily “blue screen of death” and tried to fix myself.

I asked Rev that one first time round – turns out SSP’s not included cause we don’t have any MSPs at present.

    Tough, but fair.

    Keep on keeping on.
My name is Murray McCallum BTW.  I’m going to use it from now on.  I changed it as I tend to post a lot on link to scotreferendum.com
Don’t give up on the SSP mission.  Sometimes it’s leaders that lets things down and not the people on the ground – hence my cynical attitude to organised political parties.
The only leaflets I have delivered were for the LibDems in a Tory heartland – not exactly a tough ask.  I’m a liberal, republican, leftie, pro England Scottish person – a maverick.

@Murray McCallum (The Artist Formerly Known as ‘Sapheneia’)

I got this from the link you provided – a speech (earlier tonight?) by Nicola Sturgeon to the Child Poverty Action Group Annual Conference:

‘The Bedroom Tax itself will cost more money than it saves, and it will impose additional costs on local authorities and other public services as a result of increased health and social inequalities. So we would work with local authorities and Housing Associations to remove it. It is clear that scrapping it makes eminent sense from an economic as well as a social point of view.
Independence would give us the levers required to create a welfare system that is aligned to Scottish needs. Removing the bedroom tax would be a key priority for the Scottish Government and we would begin the process to do so immediately – abolishing it in the first year of an independent Scotland.’

That seems pretty straightforward. I don’t imagine that any of my SSP pals would have much of a beef with it.

And it’s precisely the kind of nae-shitery which voters will respond to – not the posturings of ‘celebrity’ politicians via staged MSM events like QT.

You should be a copy writer.  I like a lot of what Nicola Sturgeon puts on her blog.  The site takes the usual Unionist negativity and trolls.  But some good info and materials with the posts.

Excuse me chaps, but could it be that the apparent small number of female subscribers to the Rev’s blog is caused by a reprise of the old “hogging the remote control” syndrome, only this time it’s the PC, laptop or the latest electronic gegaw?
    Just a thought.

    PS Guilty as charged.
