“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they come to fight you, and then you win.”

Turning out to be a very good year for Andy Murray. A very well deserved win.

James McLaren

How long before Sme753 arrives and buggers up this thread with his assertions that Murray is a proud Brit, under the Union Flag and it is only because of the Union that he has been allowed to bloom?

I am surprised that he hasn’t been here yet as he doesn’t seem to need sleep?

Morag

I was doing a google search to find a live stream of the match, and I noticed the flag against Murray’s name in the google feed was the saltire, just by the way.

scottish_skier

@James McLaren

Well, the stats on the Andymurrayometer link to andymurrayometer.com  do have him as 99% British this morning. No need for any spreadsheets or the like.

😉

Well done Andy – I cried when he won the olympic final not when he stood under the flag getting his gold medal and new then it was just a matter of which major he would win first so glad it was this one.

Christian Wright

I don’t know why there is an attempt here to tie Murray’s fine win for Queen and Country to the seditionist Gandhi, and that rabble-rousing jumped-up council leader, Salmond.

This achievement by a Briton is proof positive that  we are better together. Murray could not possibly have made it without the infrastructure generously provided by the tennis youth initiative funded by British payers, who took this raw young Scotch lad running barefoot in our most northern province, and turned him into a champion.

The Scotch on their best day could never have funded this sort of enterprise – good grief, they can’t even feed themselves without guidance and subsidies from a beneficent government in Westminster.

Oh, I know some will argue that  Murray only started to improve when his mother sent him to Barcelona, but really, do the Scotch think they would be better together with a bunch of garlic-eating Catalans? Of course not. The Scotch at birth have won second prize in the great lottery of life, having the good fortune to share this Sceptred Isle with God’s chosen people.

A FEW HOME TRUTHS FROM WHICH YOU MIGHT BENEFIT

Consider all we have done for you. We have taken the best and most compliant among you and educated them in our public schools and universities. We have taught them to speak the King’s English, and raised them up, bestowing upon them honors and titles and ermines . . . and generous stipends. These are our loyal pet jocks and you should listen to them, for they possess a wisdom you do not.

The Scotch malcontents who infest this web site and abuse the internet generally, with their carping small-minded whinging about being masters in their own house, will sooner or later be forced to accept the reality that they are too small, too poor, and, dare I say it, too stupid and indolent, to be afforded such responsibility.

Now do get over yourselves, accept your role as bit players on our imperial stage, providing alternatively,  cannon fodder, and light relief, in times of conflict and times of peace,

In return we will humor you, provide you pocket money,  and indulge your temperamental but colorful nature. You can wear tartan and strut about for us on ceremonial occasions, while we control your economy, the fruits of your labor, and the bounty of your land, seas, and shore.

You are as children really, and we will do our best to forget this current tantrum stirred up by that horrid little megalomaniac with ideas above his station. But be warned, our patience is not infinite.

Even though a majority of you will undoubtedly eventually see sense and reject this this fantasy of “independence”, we may even then crush you to teach your upstart rabble element a lesson, and leave you in no doubt who are the masters here. We will take no joy in this chastisement. It will be but the righteous retribution of a just lord.

One way or another you are going to learn, we are better together.

You know, I almost fell into that one…

IS.

Saw that hatchet-faced sports presenter on BBC Breakfast time this morning interviewing the president of some Scottish tennis organisation.

The snide look on her face said it all as she inserted a particularly barbed question about whether Murray’s success will lead to better facilities being built in Scotland given he has to train in Spain…

The real subtext of the ‘question’ was absolutely glaring.

They cannot help themselves, but denigrate Scottish success and achievement.

scottish_skier

@Christian Wright.

Give Lord Forsyth his due; he did predict that the Scottish Parliament would lead to independence and he’s effectively admitted that is exactly what is going to happen now.

I imagine he’s well aware that the UK Tories are now looking at the positives and bartering the best deal they can with the Scottish Government ahead of 2104.

Christian Wright

“Lord though, we will never hear the end of this. Mel Gibson will be signed up for the movie, and deep fried Mars bars will fly out of the fryers.”

The BBC have been hard at work “disappearing” unsavory bigoted and racist comments from the Murray-win thread, like the  (milder) example above that escaped the cull.

Heaven forfend the punters, or worse, foreigners, should come to know of this suppurating boil on the arse of the British body politic.

@scottish_skier Agreed – on all points.

And I am sure Forsyth is in addition, kind to children and puppies, but to my mind is no less treacherous for all that.

Just watched another disappearing comment on the BBBBC website – they sure don’t want ammo against some disgusting chav used by the ” nasty cybernats”

Didn’t the lad do well!!

Arbroath 1320

On this day in 2001 the Twin Towers in New York were attacked.
On this day in 1297 Andrew de Moray won at Stirling Bridge
On this day in 2012 Andrew Murray won his FIRST Gramd Slam in New York

Gawn yersel Andy!
ALBA gu BRATH!

Holebender

Except (Arb1320) he won it on the 10th in the USA, and that’ll be the recorded date of Andy’s great victory!

p.s. You missed out the event of the 11th of September 1997.

Arbroath 1320

It might have been the 10th he won in New York but it was the 11th over here. 😀

Hey nobody’s perfect, especially me. 😆

Being a proud Scot and a proud Briton has never appeared to conflict Murray.
He lives in England, has an English girlfriend, largely English support staff and management, and counts Englishmen among his best friends. He also retains close Scottish friends from his early years and life on the tennis tour, and was moved to tears on a rare playing appearance in Scotland – for Britain – in the Davis Cup.

Ok, following the above logic… so I’m married to a French woman, and include in my good to best friends and colleagues list Scots, English, Irish, a German, couple of Iranians, an Isreali and a Polish couple. Lived in Nigeria when I was young for 5 years and France for a brief stint.

What the feck does that make me then? Scofrengirishgermisraelolishigerian?

Hae’in masel a wee identity crisis noo.

The author doth protest too much methinks.

I did like this little comment from the BBC website-
