Can I say something off topic on this one, or do I need to wait for the art critics to finish?  😉

Doug

Are you sure it makes sense having him represent Indy?

Moriarty

Not the best analogy, cause this suggests that a) they will ultimately find it and b) it will kill off all of us (the Nazis, or so the media has told me).

Holebender

I was very wary of opening a larger image with Comical Ali in it, but I’m glad I did.

MajorBloodnok

The Union – it belongs in a museum!

Holebender

Good point, Doug! I hadn’t thought of that.

The hell with it, youse’ve had your chance.

Yesterday’s big announcement, that Scottish police will be going to Libya in March to find that terrorist bastard Megrahi’s evil accomplices.  We’ve been hearing that song a lot, in Scotland, but mostly from Scottish sources.  This one came from Call-me-Dave in person.

It’s almost three months since Justice for Megrahi submitted its dossier of evidence and argument to the Scottish police, which demonstrated that Megrahi had nothing to do with the bombing, because he was a thousand miles away at the time.  That being because the Crown case that the bomb had flown unaccompanied from Malta was a heap of mince, with the evidence demonstrating that the deed had been accomplished t Heathrow airport around 4.30 pm.

We’ve had a couple of egregious press outbursts from Frank Mulholland, not actually saying anything but calling JFM a bunch of mad conspiracy theorists and accusing us of deliberately promoting allegations we know to be false.  We haven’t been contacted directly at all.  I don’t know what they’re going to do because they are totally checkmated (and we may have even more in the pipeline).

Still the public façade that the conviction is sound and we’re all descending on Libya is being promoted by the Crown Office.  Now Cameron is on their team too.  Cameron, singing from the Scottish government hymn sheet.  What a strange notion….

Ron

Ha! Willie Rennie …

ianbrotherhood

@Morag –
In a previous thread I referred to you as ‘Dr. Kerr’ and requested that you reply to me in the third-person. It wasn’t that long ago. (I’m one of those ‘Truthers’.)
I just want to wish you well with your efforts. You are nothing if not tenacious, and few folk would have had the stamina to pursue this as far as you have. The Lockerbie Case is something I, mentally, never found a way of getting to grips with, and I’m not sure I ever will, but it pricks the conscience to see folk like yourself still plugging away, doing the donkey-work that will, surely, get to the truth.
More power to ye.
Slainte.

Jeannie

Good evening, Morag…..we’ve been expecting you 🙂

Well, if I’d done my second article, RevStu could have pegged it to yesterday’s news.  But I’ve been too busy.  The hive mind realised that it is probably possible to prove the bomb suitcase was on the floor of the container by working out how the luggage around it was positioned and where it was damaged.

If I’m right about this, and I think I am, they’re screwed.  Eight years of sanctions, one three-ring-circus kangaroo court, a life sentence, and all the recent developments.  All based on a completely false understanding of the evidence.

They’re still trying to keep up the façade.  It’s going to crack soon.  I just thought it was a little bit interesting that Cameron was helping them shore it up.

ianbrotherhood

@Morag
You’ve clearly spent years on this. Have you considered self-publishing your work? I imagine that most mainstream publishers would probably get a bit jittery, but they’re going the same way as the rest of the MSM anyway. I imagine you must have a huge amount of material – why not collate the best bits and get it all out there? It’d just be an extension of what you’re already doing.
Just a thought.

As it’s past the watershed I can post the original that I didn’t want to use because of the rude swear word in it.

I don’t think it’ll convince anyone to vote yes but I can’t see why it would convince anyone to vote no.
I just did it to see what Willie Rennie looked like in a wig.
Now I’ve got a horrible image of Alistair Darling snogging Willie Rennie at the end of the movie 🙁

Ysabelle

That’s a great Indy poster!! I think you should sell copies. One day it might be worth more than those 50 Limited Edition UKOK T-shirts.

Chic McGregor

Ahem! Indy lodges a protest.

Dito what ianbrtotherhood said, I hope you blow the conviction out of the water.

Dorothy Devine

Love the poster ,particularly the after the watershed version!
The perfect antidote to this morning Herald.

The reason I mentioned the Lockerbie story was actually Cameron’s role in the news reports.  He’s definitely singing the Crown Office song for it.  It just made me wonder if this is another example of cordial relations and co-operation behind the scenes even while the two governments squabble in public.

There are a lot of books about Lockerbie.  My coffee table is groaning under their weight as I type.  Some are informative, some are terrible.  But all of them have been out of date, if not before they were published, then very soon afterwards.  What’s the point of writing something set in type, when the story is still unfolding?

And you don’t blow a conviction out of the water by self-publishing a book about it.

Cameron B

 @ Morag

I wasn’t actually thinking about you self-publishing, at all, though ianbrotherhood did suggested it. I just hoped you would be able to sufficient undermine the prosecution so that it could no longer stand. I do not know if that is legally possible, but I was wishing you luck in case it was. Sorry if my lazy “ditto” caused any confusion.

Morag

I thought I had explained quite clearly what was being done.  At the moment the strategy seems to be “ignore them and maybe they’ll go away”, but that isn’t really tenable in the medium to long term.  The bombshell was dropped on them on 9th November and they’ll have to deal with it some time.

ianbrotherhood

Morag,
In the mammoth thread following your article here, there’s so much that most folk can’t possibly know – if you stripped away all the ‘distractions’ from Cameron, me, Vronsky and others, it would be a fine read for those asking a lot of the same questions you answered so fully.
I haven’t even asked you if you have your own blog – for all I know you may have it all online already. I, for one, would certainly bookmark such a place, and I know plenty of folk who would be interested in your work, but can’t quite bring themselves to visit WoS because they perceive this place as a ‘cybernat’ stronghold.

deewal

A couple of places to start.

As far as i can see, the whole thing starts here and the reprisal originates here.

I sincerly hope Cameron is not trying to bring this fabricated Megrahi smear up again on Salmond and KM.

Morag

I wouldn’t go anywhere near Wikipedia on any “conspiracy” related subject.  The articles are a result of huge factional infighting, bannings, blockings, all sorts of shenanigans.  Everyone with an agenda tries to edit them, and those with the biggest wiki cojones come out on top irrespective of their expertise in the subject.

Also, the really interesting thing at the moment is the fervent pursuit of Megrahi’s supposed “accomplices”, when it is becoming absolutely clear that Megrahi himself had nothing to do with the atrocity.  Not who might actually have done it.  That comes later.

I’m not sure what “fabricated Megrahi smear” deewal is referring to.  It is a fact that Kenny MacAskill has been provided with extremely strong evidence showing that Megrahi was a thousand miles away when that bomb was smuggled into the baggage container.  It is a fact that he is refusing to allow this evidence to be considered by an independent investigation, instead allowing the Lord Advocate to insult and defame those who provided that evidence in the public press, and holding to his assertion that he does not doubt the safety of the conviction.

It is also a fact that a forensics expert has been looking at even more of the evidence during the past few days, and has uncovered additional proof that the Lockerbie bomb was in a suitcase that originated at Heathrow.  Of course, Kenny doesn’t know that bit yet.

And still the Scottish government and the Westminster government seem joined at the hip in proclaiming their utter certainty that the bomb originated at Malta, that somehow Megrahi must have been involved, and they are still trying to find his accomplices nearly 25 years later.

deewal

@ Morag
I meant this link to express.co.uk

Morag

Mmmm, we went round that one in an earlier Wings article, referring to Lamont’s appalling “apology” on behalf of the people of Scotland.

Personally, I don’t quite know what to make of what happened in 2009.  Obviously it was better to allow an innocent man to spend his final months at home with his family than banged up in Greenock jail, but I could have done without the sanctimonious stuff about “judged by a higher power” and dying a guilty man.

And it really does look as if Kenny MacAskill was complicit in somehow persuading or bamboozling Megrahi into dropping his appeal when there was no legal requirement on him to do that.  Megrahi was pretty desperate by then, and clearly vulnerable to hints about how to “improve his chances” of being granted compassionate release.

However, we’ve moved on from that now.  Poor Megrahi has died, and Libya is under new management, and there has been further scrutiny of the evidence under which he was convicted.  Nearly three months ago Justice for Megrahi submitted to the police a detailed dossier demonstrating that the basic premise of the original Crown case, that the bomb originated in Malta, was absolute mince.

Originally, in a letter to KM dated 13th September, JFM outlined this evidence and requested that he appoint an independent investigator to look into it.  KM refused to do that and insisted that the matter be placed in the hands of the Dumfries and Galloway police, the very police force who are being accused of screwing up the original inquiry.  The upshot was that the full dossier was given to the D&G on 9th November.  Apart from Frank Mulholland making defamatory allegations against JFM in the Times on 21st December, nothing has happened.  There has been no further contact with JFM.

The JFM secretary believes that this “new investigation in Libya” is a deliberate smokescreen to try to shore up public confidence in the original verdict, and that Cameron has been roped in on it.  Which I found to be an interesting concept under the present circumstances – Cameron co-operating with the Scottish government I mean.

However, the evidence is incontrovertible, and they are going to have to deal with it.  More will be landing on their doormats in another two or three weeks, as further analysis has been taking place.

I have no idea if Libya was actually involved in the bombing or not.  It may have been.  What I do know is that the bomb was introduced into the baggage container at Heathrow, not at Malta, therefore whoever carried out the deed, it was not Abdelbaset al-Megrahi.  They can find all the guilty Libyans they like, but they can’t escape from the fact that the one they jailed for life was innocent.
