Wings Over Scotland

One for the archives

Kezia Dugdale in yesterday’s Daily Record on the subject of Jeremy Corbyn:

“We can’t pin our hopes on a leadership who speak only to the converted, rather than speaking to the country as a whole.

I don’t think Jeremy can unite our party and lead us into government. He cannot appeal to a broad enough section of voters to win an election.”

So let’s be absolutely clear: if Jeremy Corbyn wins the Labour leadership election next month, as almost everyone expects him to, the UK (and therefore Scotland) is doomed to Conservative rule until at least 2025.

That’s not our view, but the official public position of the leader of Scottish Labour.

Should there be a second independence referendum in the next few years, Scotland’s choice will be a clear one: a generation of brutal Tory austerity, isolated from Europe (losing out on billions of pounds in funding) and the protections of the Human Rights Act, or taking responsibility for ourselves.

And every time Kezia Dugdale or her Labour colleagues in Better Together 2.0 protest that there’s another option she’ll be contradicted not by angry nationalists, but by her own words. So we’re sure everyone on all sides of the debate in Scotland will be watching the outcome of the leadership contest with interest. There’s a lot at stake.

Indeed Stuart. If Corbyn wins and the Blairites split from the party, then it’s goodnight Scottish Labour. People won’t vote for a weak, fractured party when they already have an anti-Tory, anti-austerity left-of-centre party packaged and in place (SNP). To my mind independence will then be inevitable. All that’s left is the timing.

Well, obviously I can’t speak for everyone else. But I don’t think Owen Smith can win a Labour leadership election, let alone a general election. And even if he somehow manages the first one, I don’t think he’s got a hope of the second.

The thing is, if the general election was tomorrow, I suspect that Smith would probably lose it a bit less badly than Corbyn would. But he’d still lose it. Labour’s only hope in the medium to long term is a major repositioning of the party back towards its traditional values in the hope (by no means a guarantee) of re-engaging the millions and millions who walked away from voting altogether in the Blair years, and only Corbyn can achieve that.

The real question we have got to ask now, is another Scottish independence referendum actually winnable, against the power and glory of tory BBC led UKOK state propaganda. Vote NO Thanks Project Fear 2 will be nothing like we have ever seen before. BBC gets into every home, even JK Rowling can pay for all of Project Fear 2 again from her current account. Indeed. Add to that a pro Indy majority in Holyrood, and if we don’t take Indy under this perfect storm, then may never, ever.

Indyref2 almost certainly will be a once in a lifetime event.

When the starting pistol is fired, we all need to go for it with everything!

My hope is that the stark choice between Indy and Brexit isolationism is laid out, enough folks will opt for Indy. I include in that members, even politicians, among the Unionist parties.

As simple question for Dugdale, when the choice is a simple binary one, ‘whatever makes you think the best future for Scotland lies in the UK as it is, not as you might wish it to be?’

In my opinion she is looking forward to being a big star in a new more centrist grouping of current Labour Party MPs and MSPs. In other words Labour will split into two parties.
Also in my opinion she won’t be converted to Independence, but the split combined with the disarray of the Tories over Brexit makes the SNP the only rational choice for disillusioned Labourites.

The majority of their MPs are not willing to work with the leader that the members have voted into power.

Being the largest party at Westminster is more important than having morals, principles or policies that benefit the working classes.

You will see Labour split, as that will be the mission set for the Tory Moles within labour.

Everyone in Scotland can see that Jeremy Corbyn has the backing of grassroot supporters. They know that most of his principles are shared by those of a socialist persuasion …and yet, Kezia backs Smith. Owen Smith …a man who endorses the policies of Tony Blair and is now promising this, that and everything if he is elected. And yet, deep down, most folk know that it is just words. If Smith is elected, the Blairites will sigh in relief, and the right-wing agenda begins again. And this is who Kezia backs. A man who back Blairite policies when Scotland can’t stand Blairite policies.

She vanished for 5 odd weeks in the greatest political crisis in 300 years. And yet, no one asked where she was. In fact, let’s be honest here …no-one even noticed that she was missing!

Anything she tries to back, endorse or take control off is going to end in defeat, disaster and derision.

With her backing Owen Smith at the moment …well, if I were him, I would begin writing my concession speech right now…

Is there no escape from The BBC’s Olympic Propaganda Boreathon and the continuing ‘Isn’t GB Wonderful?’ tsunami in the dead tree media? When will it stop? 1966 was bad enough but this is horrific.

It all puts Leno Riefenstal to shame with her pathetic 1936 effort.

    Kezia’s words:
“We can’t pin our hopes on a leadership who speak only to the converted, rather than speaking to the country as a whole.

Ha, ha, ha. This is truly hilarious! Is Ms Dugdale ever listening to what comes out of her mouth at all?

I mean, with her continuous whining (almost as loud as Ruth’s), strops and tantrums against ‘another independence referendum’ is she not consistently and deliberately attempting to silence half of the country in Scotland?

It is truly remarkable this ability that the red Tories have to always perceive that the smell of other’s crap is always stronger even when the one they are carrying themselves is over 20 times bigger.

    Kezia’s words
I don’t think Jeremy can unite our party and lead us into government. He cannot appeal to a broad enough section of voters to win an election.”

Ha, ha, ha. Was this meant to be a joke???

I mean, really, does this lady’s brain actually process any of what comes out of her mouth or does she have some sort of earpiece at all times from where the Tory coup headquarters are telling her what to say?

I mean, 500,000 members and counting, gatherings of tens-of-thousand-crows under Corbyn’s leadership, compared to… well…, how many dozens of followers of Slab in Scotland under Kezia’s pretend play lead?

Really, if we don’t laugh is because we don’t want to. The unionist political class together with their supporting so called ‘reporters’ are quickly becoming the finest comedians of the 21st century.

There is a BBC radio 4 program called more or less, their conclusions to the success, a lift from the last games before, as is shown statistically for every country, and the fact that team gb didn’t break records but did better than the rest (obviously) but was summed up as “it wasn’t we did well but every one else did so badly” well it was on the BBC so must be true!

“Could she be positioning herself to do a u-turn when Corbyn wins by forming an autonomous Scottish Labour Party and dare I say it, agreeing that the only way to avoid years of Tory rule is by backing Indy?”

This would be the move of a smart and calculating politician. It would allow them to form an autonomous party – ensuring their future in Scotland – and also to distance themselves from the tories, wiping off the public perception that having similar views to the tories with regards to independence gives Ruth and co some sort of ‘hold’ on Slab.

However, judging by the nonsense that often comes out of her mouth and the kamikaze approach taken by the Slab since she took over, I do not believe the depth of Kezia’s thought and ability to cold planning reach the minimum levels required to enact such strategy. Put simply, she is comes across as rather shallow.

Attila Blair’s Labour was guilty of war crimes, which went against the whole ethos of the Labour Party.
Mr Corbyn is the only one who can bring some normality back to them.
Owen Smith is a poor mans FUD Murphy, “and that’s saying something”.
I personally couldn’t give a toss what happens to Labour when Scotland is Independent, but at the present time the UK is FUKD, unless there is a moral labour party in Westminster.

Why wait? the next IndyRef campaign will not be a long one. So we need to manufacture support for Indy BEFORE it is called. RIC is gearing up to do just that, we don’t need Nicola’s permission, we don’t have to consult the SNP, we are doing it.

If RIC isnae your cup of tea then form/join an independent Yes group and get going. The Yes Campaign has been broken free of the SNP, half of it last time paid no attention anyway.

We need to get out chapping doors and speaking to folk, not browbeating them, ask how they are feeling about things post Brexit and let things go from there. If the subject of them being No last time comes up tell that’s alright and you hope they will think again. Smile and be pleasant and as engaging as you can be (more fun than being grumpy).

Look out for news frae Dundee, we’re moving in the Yes City.

Bit of a misunderstanding here about what Kezia Dugdale is thinking; She isn’t positioning herself for a position post Corbyn win, or holding a position she’ll reverse later… quite the opposite again, and you’re making a mistake trying to fit her into a pro-Indy, Scottish based perspective when it’s purely about the balance of factions within the Labour Party.

What is actually happening is that the Blairite wing know full well Corbyn is a principled man. And they’re taking advantage of that; he has only removed one of the rebels from their position, when it became obvious they were about to launch the coup. But he wants to hang on to as many Labour MPs as he can, because his main goal is to defeat the Tories. He’s going to take all the personal abuse for the greater good, he’ll offer out the hand of friendship when all of this is over to try and hold Labour together and the Tories to account.

So from the Blairite perspective, they can’t lose. The worst that happens is they get to stay in the Labour Party and continue to undermine Corbyn. And they think, with the entire media behind them, they’ll be able to get him eventually.

Of course, this ignores both the Community Labour Parties and the Regional ones like Scotland; but Dugdale et all really, really aren’t thinking of that at all. Their world is Westminster and the media circus around it. They believe if they can control that, everything else will fall into line.

In fact, breaking the Labour Party in Scotland is a good thing, from their perspective. They’d rather it fail short term, and then be re-built in the Blairite model again than let the it go back to it’s working class roots. And when the only opposition in Scotland will be SNP or Tory, both of which don’t appeal to a large part of the core Labour vote, they think the electorate will come crawling back to them as the official opposition eventually.

It may not, because given the choice between hard Toryism and Scots Nationalism, the core Labour vote may break to Nationalism as the lesser evil. But a party which is tracking it’s own member’s social media posting in an attempt to remove their voting rights really, really doesn’t understand that perspective is the more likely outcome. They honestly think that the electorate can be abused without end. Hence Dugdale continues to monster Corbyn, because the idea of things not getting back to the Status Quo is beyond her…
